I'm a huge fan of carnitas & found this spot on yelp. The service was okay, there's a window to order & another to pay. They weren't super welcoming but they were at least nice. I got a pound & asked for lemons & salsa on the side. The charged me .75 for a small salsa & $1 for lemons. I feel like these should be complimentary. Other than that, the food was good. I called over there yesterday since I had not been for a while and menu looks a bit changed. Noteworthy: was told they still have homemade Mole every day they are open. Had it before, fantastic! After a respectable amount of time, I convinced him to let me spoon his sauce over my carnitas, which I already loved, and I discovered I was definitely. in. love. with. this. place. Never been so disgusted in my life! My fiance told me he tried this place years ago and it was good. So we ordered 2bl of carnitas and took it to his parents house. The carnitas we're dry and had we're for sure reheated. Today my mom said she wanted to go there because they make fresh tortillas. As soon as we stepped in it smelled SPOILED! We kept walking because I was to embarrassed to walk out. My mom asked for the restroom while we ordered. We asked for beef birria but they didn't have it, so we were going to get goat, birria (again because we we're not ones to walk out of a place) . I ordered and walked to the restroom. The restroom was gross and the smell was so bad I decided to cancel and walk out. As we did one of their employees raised his voice at my mom (when she didn't use the restroom and was sitting at a booth because she thought we would wait for the food) and told her in Spanish "next time know this is not a public restroom" my mom was shocked and didn't know what to say. I walked over and said we're leaving because it smells bad in here. My mom asked how much she needed to pay him for the restroom and again said why we were leaving to clean the place. I took $5 out and put them on the table. WTF? I'm so disgusted by thier dirty place and by that man's attitude towards my mom. read more

We decided to try this place out because we saw there was good rating for carnitas. We placed an order over the phone for 2lbs of carnitas only. When we picked up the food it was literally in an aluminum foil. It wasn't placed in any container or plate. They literally put the food in the aluminum foil. When I took it out the meat wasn't cut all the way. I had to cut it myself. And it didn't seem like I received 2lbs at all. We really thought we had food missing. I've gone to other places where I have ordered 2lbs of carnitas and I get more than what I got at this place. The carnitas were also not that great at all. I wouldn't recommend this place at all to anyone. I paid $27 for 2lbs of carnitas. Which really seemed overpriced for the amount I received and how I received the food and for low quality food. Their carnitas family pack is $28 for 1lb and it comes with the tortillas, salsa and cilantro and onion. Thank goodness I didn't decide to go with that option. read more

Best place to get carnitas that wont be extra greasy nor that you'll be burping back up later. The tortillas are made by hand and I love that's it's a mom and pop shop. A true gem, I recommend asking for the "paquette" (package) that comes with 1lb of carnitas, salsa, handmade tortillas, cilantro and onions. If I could give 0 stars I definitely would. It's unfortunate that the low rating isn't due to their food but more so to their lack of providing decent customer service. I placed my order had them repeat it to ensure they got it right and they did, however upon picking my order up and arriving at home I discovered they messed it up. I called to inform them and they were upset at the fact that I was calling and their solution was to hang up on me. I called right back and they hung up on me. I called a 3rd time and I told them to quit playing stupid and they said oh sorry we're having phone trouble. Seriously?! This place gives you a mom and pop feeling, you can tell it's family members running this place. Menu isn't too fancy, just the basics to make this place good. Tacos, burritios, tortas, quesadillas and some plate offerings. All i order was a pound of carnitas for $8. Good flavor, nice and greasy. Something good for the morning after a night of drinking. My only issue with this place is that they don't give you onions, cilantro, salsa and tortillas with your bulk order. Most places I've been to before usually give you everything included in the pricing. This place will sale you the onions/cilantro for $2 and the salsa for $4. They have another store in Santa Ana and was told the carnitas are best early in the morning. Best I could do was 9am and it was half gone already. $8.00 a pound comes with cilantro, onions & lime. Got home it was still hot and warmed up a 4 corn tortillas. Added the carnitas , onion then sprinkled some cilantro. Added a little lime & salsa and enjoyed. Enjoyed the carnitas too much. No more corn tortillas so I'll have more with eggs for breakfast with some flour tortillas with some beans on the side. Just sprinkle little salt and you're in for some mighty fine eating as Jeter Clampet would say. Ooooo wi! Just joking folks. Super nice owners and very clean inside dispite the run down location. Standard menu, fair prices, though I was hoping for cheaper tacos on taco Tuesday. Nope, $2 each, $2.50 for homemade tortillas. I had one with all pastor and while it was fine, nothing special. My husband had the asada burrito, again OK, though he did not really enjoy the meat. As a traditional Mexican, I had an urge for some good authentic carnitas. I read some Yelp reviews and decided I would give them a chance. Big mistake; 1. Carnitas were mixed in a pot with Cuerito, buche and a broth. 2. The establishment was empty (should of been my first red flag) 3. The homemade tortillas were thick, large and cold. 4. The kitchen and Counter dirty. 5. But most of all the Carnitas tasted horrible. Go to "Cardenas" on a Saturday or Sunday morning (early) and you will get some good carnitas. Being a master cook in Authentic Mexican food (none of this chipotle crap) this is the only place I seen in So cal that cooks Carnitas authentic to the mother land en la olla with the big boat paddle they do Carnitas cueritos and buche! Great quality and taste for those that complain it's a tad too salty please remember to ad lime it will balance the flavor highly recommend the surtido which is a mix of the 3 meats. The place wasn't busy as there was only one diner when we arrived. We chose to dine-in which was a poor decision as the service was virtually non-existent. We received no greeting. None of the tables were clean. I asked for a beer and was told to help myself from the fridge. Most of the time the employer/owner (?) was either watching TV or checking his phone. His body language spoke volumes and I'm sure he had no desire to be here. When we asked him for a to-go container he brought us a plastic bag. We had to ask again as we needed something to store the the leftover tortillas, diced onions, cilantro, and salsa. He brought us one sheet of foil paper. We had to specifically ask for a container for the salsa and something to wrap the tortillas in. No joke: this guy moved in slow motion with a frown on his face the entire time. A big vat of carnitas is visible from the counter, daring me to order something else. I'm so glad I ordered their namesake in a plate, with three corn tortillas, rice, and beans. If their other meats are anywhere close to being as good as the carnitas, they'll have another repeat customer in me. The pictures don't quite do justice to how good their carnitas really are. Just the right amount of fat and grease, but not overboard like at some other hole-in-the-wall places. The green salsa that they included has a good kick, and complements the carnitas well. They knocked out my cold congestion, which was a nice bonus. Leaving four stars for now, as I can't vouch for the other items on the menu.
