Bought my mower from this firm several years back. Have had it serviced twice by them, both times with excellent results. Just today my mower stopped working, despite being service by them just a month and a half ago. I brought it in and they serviced it that same day, at no charge. Probably give it negative stars if i could, this shop seems very professional and clean, but looks are deceiving. This Shop is probably for someone that doesn't know how to do an oil change your outdoor equipment. I sent my lawn mower in for warranty work to be done on it. I drove 30 minutes just to explain and physically demonstrate the problem to them, even after talking on the phone and explaining in very clear detail. They said we understand the problem, we have guys that have 15 years experience. Three weeks go by and i get a call from them we have fixed and done the warranty work for your lawnmower. I spend another 30 mins to go there in person to see if it's actually fixed before delivery. Well to my Surprise after three week the problem still existed, and the employee and i were physically looking at it. After some back and forth with the employee, in denial even though were are looking at the problem live in front of him. He also mentioned multiple times the guys have 15-20 years of experience. Finally, he agrees to fix the problem that was still there from day one. Another week goes by and he says we're delivering your lawn mower. When receiving the delivery after a month or so the problem is till there. Not to mentioned the towing guy will scratch/damage your equipment when loading it on to the truck. Hint: if your towing guy was to load a Lamborghini, the owner would be suing for damages. This shop is a scam, beyond frustrating, they're only good for oil changes, maybe filter changes. Be very careful before giving any of your expensive, commercial or consumer level equipments for repairs. read more

Up till yesterday, I had a decent opinion of this store. I bought a snow blower from them a few years ago. Yesterday I decided to take it in just for a early tune up, oil change, and possible belt replacement. Person I spoke with very bluntly told me I could leave it if I want to but they won't be touching any snow equipment until November, and it would just sit outside until then. November?? Really?? Last month I was about half done clearing my driveway when my Toro Snow Thrower stopped working. I called CSL&P to inquire when they could take a look at it. I was told 5-7 days for a diagnosis and 7-14 day to repair. However, the lady on the phone asked what the problem was. After I explained the problem, the extremely knowledgeable lady suggested a couple of things I might try before bringing it in for service. A couple days later, I tried her suggestions and much to my surprise my Toro was up and running and ready for the next snow fall! Kudos to Carol Stream Lawn and Power!!! read more

Very disappointed in this business, when a lawnmower was taken to change filters and other simple stuff,, they took almost a month to fix and when we where going to pick it up,, handles where completely bent so they dropped our lawnmower ,,, and wanted to charge us to fix it .,, there's was chipped paint of the drop and the handles where super bent this shouldn't happen you expect a business to be professional and take care of the stuff not damage it. I purchased a portable generator here a few years ago. I was having problems with the generator shutting off on its own. I had it in their shop 3 times. They made repairs 3 times but each time once I got the unit home it did the same thing. I finally called the manufacturer directly. The manufacturer service department told me to un-hook an orange wire, run the unit for an hour and call back. I did what they said and the the unit ran fine with the wire unhooked. The service person told me I had a bad low oil sensor. The shipped me a replacement sensor for free. I am just blown away that Carol Stream Lawn and power couldnt make the same call. I would not use their service department again. Also I would like to add that I have purchased 3 pieces of equipment from them. I won't be back. read more

Got my modest three year-old Troy-Bilt mower back after it's $120 annual tune up (ten+ year customer) and after the fifth or sixth time using it started experiencing problems. I brought it in and was told they were really busy and running five weeks out on repairs. However, after a quick look over and a brief discussion of probable causes, they sold me a $10 bottle of stabilizer and told me to drain the gas, put in some fresh gas--"be sure it's 93 octane from a Mobil station"--and just keep trying to start it. The guy advised that it was likely a fuel problem and it will take a lot of pulls before it starts. No such luck. Before my arm fell off I started searching Yelp for help. I found a small engine repair shop that could look at it the next day. Hours after dropping it off I got a call that it was running and ready to pick up. The problem was someone at CSP&L stuck in the wrong air filter (it was labeled "for Briggs & Stratton engine", mine has a Honda) when they tuned it up. They also padded it with some spongy pre-filter material to make it fit. Anyway, apparently it was getting clogged up quickly, and the spark plug was getting fouled up. And I had some clippings and/or debris in the carburetor linkage, too. My new guy got it sorted out rather quickly, but it cost me $90 to get the problems diagnosed and corrected. Came to this establishment twice, greeted by a snooty young girl who is very rude and talks to you like you were born yesterday. Rolled her eyes at us after we told her we accidentally put to much Oil in the mower. 4 Weeks Later we got a call, and picked up and paid. Greeted by same young girl who again is very rude and unfriendly. I'm confused and mind blown how you walk into a service establishment for service and the employees who work there think it is their obligation to be rude to you. They fixed a portable generator under warranty for me and it works just fine now. However, from the time I dropped it off to when I picked it up was 82 days. I called after a month and a half for an update and they still hadn't even looked at it. If you can afford to not have your items for almost 3 months, by all means use them. I'd recommend anywhere else if you can swing it. read more

Wish I had read the previous reviews before I wasted my time and money coming here. Brought in a non running lawn machine. $40 diag fee up front and three weeks for est and repair. Two and a half weeks later --- nothing. Called for an update was told four weeks. Received a call a week later --- nearly $400 to fix! FYI, these are called "Courtesy Quotes". Basically, "Go away, we don't want the work, but if you're crazy enough to OK this quote we'll do the work". Of course, I went elsewhere -- a $40 lesson. The supervisor/ manager has no customer service skills. He has no manners he is rude and won't listen. Took my lawnmower to get repair and I explain to him the problem. He wasn't able to fix my problem and I was still responsible for paying for a service that didn't fix the problem that my lawnmower has. The manager said I had wasted his time and I had to pay for the service even though my lawnmower is still having the same problem. Another employee made a comment about how the problem was not fixed and should be sent somewhere else to get a check. The manager was rude to the employee as well telling him that he was not going to do anything else. My visit was on September 24th, 2020. Don't go to this place!!!!! read more

We just had to take in our lawn mower for a repair. Suddenly the handle broke. Thanks to duct tape, we managed to keep it together until I could take the mower in. We called ahead and described the problem and were told that they had to order parts for it. So we had about 4 weeks with the duct tape until the parts were ready. You can't miss this place as they have a big sign so you can easily see what strip mall its in. They have these monster mowers that you have to have a big ass plantation to buy. Then there's me, with my regular, the kind you need to push, red mower. I had some problems getting the mower inside, but the teenage son was somewhat helpful. Once I got in there, the guy wrote up the ticket, told me how much it would cost and gave me a guessestimate of when it would be ready. No firm date just "Monday I think". That got on my nerves. It's hard enough to get my kids to cut the grass, but not knowing when we would have a mower makes it even worse! The mower was repaired and has worked fine every since. Things I liked - that they could order the parts over the phone saving me a trip there and that the price was pretty reasonable ($75). What I didn't like - that it took 1 month to get the parts and the vague answer I got when I asked for a completion date. read more

I wish I had read reviews prior to buying my snow blowers here. I went in and spoke with the sales guy. He did explain some features on different models which is better than you'd get at Home Depot. I asked if they matched prices and he said the prices at the same everywhere. He said the price is set by Toro. He said the difference with them is they'll set the machine up and show me how to use it and fill it with gas and oil. Lazily I accepted this as a great deal and the truth. He shows me how to use the machine. He tells me to hold the starter for 5 seconds and to not pump it...while he pumps it about ten times he repeats to not do exactly what he is doing. He then takes it outside pulls the string and it doesn't start. He pulls a second time and a puff of white smoke comes off the new machine and he said he must've flooded the machine. I was at a point I didn't want to deal with the guy anymore and figured toro would take care of situation if he took life off machine by being careless. I took the machine hime and used it immediately. It worked great, but I'd never go back to this place as my experience and past reviews align. I also looked up price and I could've gotten the machine for $70 cheaper at Home Depot without having to deal with this place. read more

Here it is...the small engine business is shrinking and only the best will survive! This is one of the best and here's the reason why- if your in the W Suburbs there are few choices for lawn engine-service-repair and dealers. I've been to each and every local shop after leaving my local service guy in Villa Park. Most others have few experienced mechanics- 1 or 2 at the most. These mechanics do a good job, but everyone is usually 2-3 weeks out on service. These small mechanic shops are inconsistent and screw things up more frequently because they are small. They have limited new inventory and don't carry many brands and DONT care about customers because they all know business is shrinking. We all need to get our mowers repaired somewhere! Many larger dealers don't care about customers- Russo is a perfect example. They want to sell you the equipment....not service it even though service dept makes more money. Carol stream has large selection of mowers from small residential- to large residential to commercial. Most importantly a great service department. I serviced my blower here. Yes it was 5 weeks...it is the middle of summer. A tip to all of you out there- take your mowers in for service in Sept-Nov before winter season starts BEFORE the spring season so your not waiting 5 weeks for your mower the following mowing season. And Vica versa for your snow blower! Take it in Feb-March for the next season so your not scrambling to get it repaired during peak season. If you DONT DO THIS-----STOP Complaining! Do you complain in mid-summer when there's a line out the door at the local ice scream parlor? Carol Stream lawn and power is right in the middle! Not a Russo's but not a 1 man operation either. Owner John is the most laid back person you can ever deal with and not a mean bone in the mans body. A picture of his late wife sits on the back of each register...I purchased my largest toro zero turn from him after several months of doing research as I needed a mower for a large property up north. John was very easy to work with and he doesn't recommend anything that's not appropriate for his customers! Stick with these guys!!! These folks are great. They care and will do their best to support their customer. I bought a tractor for my house because I have a walk out basement and so a straight lawn mower is difficult at best to cut my lawn and do yard work without a tool like a tractor with a cart. I couldn't get the tractor up the hill with a loaded cart and I went back and the owner Ralph told me he would put on their lawn commercial tires for me which worked great. I didn't expect no charge but they replaced the tires at no cost. I've been going to these folks for years with zero issues. Great people there. read more

I give them 0 stars. They had my riding mower for 5 weeks to change oil, sharpen blade and new battery. Originally told 2-3 weeks. Had to call several times to question when I would get it back. Long time on hold waiting for answer. Kept being told they were real busy. I guess my mower kept getting pushed back for bigger customers. Brought in a brand new Briggs and Stratton pressure washer that was used exactly once for less than an hour when it started to malfunction and ultimately quit working. When I brought it to them, the first thing out of the technician's mouth was "If we conclude you used old gas or put water in the gas tank, it will void the warranty". I assured the technician that since I've been a resident of Earth for over 4 decades and have owned and operated a plethora of small engine machines, that is 100% not the case here. After 3 and a half weeks, I received a call that they finally examined the machine and concluded the issue was "old gas" because the gas was "yellow" and for $100 they would flush out the gas and replace the "black" spark plug. I have a receipt for the date I last filled my gas can, the purchase date of the pressure washer and checked the spark plug when directed to by the Briggs and Stratton representative before being directed to take the machine to them and it was not black. Bottom line here is that either these people do not know what they are doing or they aren't fans of having to do extra paperwork for warranties. If I had a choice where to bring my equipment, this place would not be my choice. read more

TERRIBLE customer service. Bought a $500 chainsaw from them less than a year ago and it broke down. I had a warranty on it and figured they would take care of me. I brought it in to have it looked at and after 4 WEEKS I called THEM and they had yet to even take the time out of their "busy" schedules to look at it. 2 weeks after that they called and said it would be $250 for repair. There was no way I was going to pay for the repair so I went in to pick it up and it was completely disassembled. They couldn't even take the time to put it back together when I brought it in perfectly intact. Will NEVER give them my business again. read more

Took my snowblower in for a tuneup as it was hard starting. After two weeks they gave me a laundry list of items that were bad, an estimate of $495. Said the carburetor needed to be replaced which was driving up the cost. They recommended I buy a new one and offered to apply the $60 diagnostic fee toward a new unit. Interesting because the gas tank was bone dry on the way in and out. they never even tried to start it. Took it to another shop that rebuilt the carburetor for $90 and had it back the next day. We recently had our snow blower repaired at this store. I will never walk through their doors again. They tell you up front that a $40.00 fee is required to examine the problem. When you question the $40.00 charge they say "we will use that toward the repair". Well wouldn't you know it, the repair was over $40.00! I told them there was a gas leak. From my experience in running a gas station many years ago it was a gas line, fuel filter or carburetor problem. I went on Murray's Snow blower site and it said the gas leak is either a leaky gas filter or gas tank. It was the gas filter. However, yes there is a however they change $99.00 per hour labor. It took 1/2 hour to repair. Labor cost $49.95. With other items they charge me for (parts) the bill was$73.40 My feeling is, the labor costs is way overboard. So beware, if you go there don't fall for the response "we will use the $40.00 toward the repair" because the repair will exceed that amount. read more

Very disappointed in the service I received on my Toro Zero turn. I purchased this from them and the starter had problems while under warranty. I made arrangements for them to pick up my machine and they showed up a week early. when I set up the appointment I told them to pick it up after the 4th of July holiday in case they had to order parts. Well the took it and guess what......it needed parts and it sat for almost a week waiting for parts. I have almost an ache of land and cut it by hand while this machine was tied up! All this would have been avoided if they did what was asked. I also had them change the oil and specifically told them to use synthetic oil. You guessed it......regular oil so they had to do it all over again. Not to happy with this organization. read more

Terrible customer service!! They lie about what's wrong with your equipment to over charge!! Took in my echo trimmer since it has factory warranty 5 years- I only had it for 2 months and started shutting off! Took it in hoping it will be covered!! They took 3 weeks just to check what was the issue! They said is was lack of maintenance okkk I only used it 10-12 times--- they said it had a dirty carburetor- dirty air filter- most possible needed a new carburetor. Not covered by echo factory warranty, don't don't even try to help me get covered.. total price to fix $190.00 WOW I payed $290 used it 10-12 times and now they wanted $190 more from me! I took it home, contact my friend that works for Kawasaki engines, he check out my echo trimmer, it had a broken spark plug that cost ME $4.. he said they knew what was wrong with it they try to ripe me off !!
