I met some friends here for dinner. It has a nice sports-bar atmosphere with a good beer selection and friendly crowd. My friends recommended the burgers but i had a burger for lunch and wanted something lighter- I tried the fish and chips. After about 10 minutes, our server returned - they're out of codfish. Would grouper be OK? Sure! Another 10 minutes and she's back. They're having problems with the batter and it'll be a bit longer - but I'll get a discount. Hmmmmm.....OK. Getting a bad feeling now. A few more minutes and she served it up....and took off very quickly. The plate held 5,000 French fries and 3 small minnows, about 4 inches long. I cut into one - it wasn't done and I didn't feel like sushi. I told her that the cook should be embarrassed to have served that plate! I had to leave - my friend said they'd take care of the check. This Carolina Ale House is one of the worst restaurants we have visited in Waverly North Carolina. There was no hostess when you walked into ale house to greet and seat you. We finally were seated in a bank of empty booths. Later during our meal all I can say the hostess was a little lazy to walk the guests a little further to space out the seating only to dump them right behind us. However, our waitress Amari was awesome, very polite, friendly and fun. We did feel bad for her to work here when this is an ale house with all those taps, she showed us a hand written note on her phone of what beers were available. So sad for a ale house. Then I asked for a Bacardi and coke and was told they have no Bacardi, Then my wife asked for a Captain Morgan and coke again no Captain. By the way, the our food was great and our waitress Amari was outstanding. Our opinion, This place needs a better bar manager who knows how to run an ale house. How to properly order beer and alcohol so customers are not disappointed unless there is a financial issue . My understanding a keg lasts around 45 days before going downhill and alcohol 2 years And if you hear there were problems with the taps, find some money and Fix them! And please be upfront and honest and let the customers know before they are seated so they can turn around and run like hell to another bar that knows how keep a well stocked inventory. And what were those two guys hanging around at the cook station. One was wearing all black and rocking back and forth like he has ADD or Autistic? The other one was in long pants grey hoodie sweatshirt with baseball cap, its 93 degrees out, both kept going to one side of the ale house and the came back out. Stopped in the Carolina Ale House to grab a few drinks after arriving in Charlotte for a family wedding. The wedding party was staying nearby in the Hilton Garden Inn, so the Ale House was in the same complex, within walking distance. I have visited this restaurant three times in the past month (my child takes an art class at Waverly) and all three times the service has been terrible. Twice my drink took forever to arrive, and both times it turned out the drink order was never entered though the bar and restaurant had minimal patrons. The first visit I ordered an appetizer and it took over 30 minutes to arrive; today my order was incorrect and no one seemed to know which server was assigned to the table. The order could have very quickly and simply been fixed by giving me a small cup of bacon bits but for some reason the server had them create an entirely new one. The food is decent, but Carolina Ale needs to get its act together with the service. Won't be spending the time I'm waiting for the class here again. read more

The great thing about club sandwiches is how they are always presented in a neat fashion, utilizing toothpicks to keep things together and upright. This makes for an enjoyable meal and happy customers. I believe CAH might not have the proper personnel to do such a simplistic task. Three main points here: 1.) Toothpicks were used, but hidden throughout this hilarious slop of a "sandwich." 2.) I'm not sure how it's possible to have three pieces of bread with nothing between them but a partial slice of cheese. 3.) I also have this hesitant question wondering why all the meat is so "wet." Who knows, someone must have been very angry (or something else) when they made this thing. We are staying across the street in the hotel this weekend. Meeting family that just got in for a late dinner. Being so close, we decided to give it a try. We were glad we did. Everyone was very friendly from the start. We were lucky enough to have 2 servers, a trainer and a trainee, that were both awesome. The trainee did a great job (only his 2nd shift serving) and the trainer was amazing helpful and friendly. They kept up well with our table and brought a positive attitude and smiles. Then the food. Everyone enjoyed their meals quite a lot. I had the chicken quesadilla, which was super tasty. The rest of my party had seafood tacos, the chicken/ rice bowl, and a cheeseburger. No complaints from anyone. In terms of ambiance, well...we were in Charlotte, in a sports bar, while a Panthers game was on. It was loud...but that is to be expected. 5 years later and we're ready for another review update. Since my last review I am now a mom and came back to this place for a lunch with the kids. I am pleasantly surprised by how kid friendly this place is while still being fun. With all the tvs and fun decor my kids were vibing. However, we came on a Sunday and our poor waitress was the only person on the very busy floor. With that said she had an amazing attitude and set expectations quite nicely. We sat and the hostess let us know the situation and took our drink order. All in all our food was slightly delayed but everything came out fresh and tasty and we got out pretty easily. I will definitely come back and if a couple more servers we could get back up to the 4-5 star range. read more

I think Carolina Ale house is better than the 2.5 star review. It's not a five star place but service, food and atmosphere are all much better than 2.5 stars. I've visited this location three times now and every time has been good. I like the vegan options they have (vegan chicken that can be substituted for any chicken dish), about 100 beer options, a great cocktail menu and tons of televisions to watch sports. I only have two negative experiences during my visits and they were both on my last visit. The kitchen or wait staff were backed up and it took a long time to get our food. We weren't in a rush and were enjoying the atmosphere and games on the televisions so it wasn't horrible but it was very noticeable. The second issue was my chicken for my Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich was actually still icy cold on the inside. We were taking this sandwich home so it wasn't a big deal but noticed it when I was packing it up (filled up on fries, chili and wings and couldn't eat the sandwich; luckily the chicken was already cooked and then frozen so no concerns around raw chicken). There were a couple of other minor details but it was obvious this was due to the staff being overly busy and missing a few details. Our server was super nice and did a great job. The food is really good - we had the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich with fries, chili, French onion soup and wings. I like how the wings come either fried or grilled. I struggle finding grilled wings. My favorite thing is the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich (both vegan and non-vegan options are great) and a close second is the French onion soup. read more

Never again. My friend was visiting from the UK and we came here, as we do every year, to play pool. When we ordered at the bar, the barman asked us for ID; something I've never experienced here before, especially given that I'm 42(!) and my friend is 43. I showed my NC license with no issue. My friend then presented his valid UK driver's license, which the barman took to the manager/owner sitting at the other side of the bar. Instead of coming over to speak with us, the manager/owner immediately told him "no" -- and the barman had to return and explain that only passports are accepted. We even offered to show a photo of the passport, but that was refused too. My friend has traveled across the US for years and has never once been turned away with his UK license -- until here. What made this worse was the complete lack of courtesy: if a visitor from overseas came into my bar, I'd welcome them and show respect, not dismiss them without a word. To the bar owner/manager, I would encourage you to remember that every customer interaction matters. Treating people with respect is not only the right thing to do...it directly impacts our loyalty to you, your reputation, and ultimately your success. read more

I was doing Karaoke on a Sunday night when the Carolina Ale House managers had their security aggressively snatch the microphone out my hand! According to them my song was wayyyy too "inappropriate " for a bar full of adults and they had to take swift and immediate action. So instead of letting me hand over the microphone or turn off the music they chose to assault me in front of their customers and staff I called the corporate office in Raleigh and they said if I had a complaint I needed a lawyer to address the issue In any case I'll never go back there because apparently certain "people" aren't welcomed at the Carolina Ale House. read more

Not sure if our waitress was just having an off day but service could have been much better. Started off taking a while for the waitress to greet us after we sat down. My husband and I like coming here for lunch on weekends when it's nice and quiet. The food quality is good and service from bartender Andy is awesome ! All the people working here are very nice. As long as you come here when it's not busy you'll have a nice meal. We love Ale House. The menu has a large variety of items to please your whole family. We tried 3 apps, 2 entrees, a salad and a kids meal. Def recommend the Bacon Cheese Fries, Frickles and the new Hot Honey Crispy Ribs were def a fave for rib lovers. My fave sandwich on their menu is the Philly Cheesesteak. I've had to tons of times and every time it's great. Their fries are awesome. Super crispy and thick. We subbed a side salad and it was huge. I tried the 28 Day Aged Ribeye Steak and it was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. It was also huge. We tested the new Tropical Shrimp Bowl and it was also delicious. The shrimp was super flavorful. Our son tried the BBQ wings kid plate. The wings were big and it came with 2 sides. Def recommend. Great location with lots of parking. Service was great. Attentive. Decided to give it one more shot since the manager so graciously provided a discount coupon as a make good for our previous mediocre experience. Unfortunately things didn't get off to a good start as there was no one at the hostess stand, so we followed the directions on the sign which stated "see someone inside to be seated". The problem was, there was no one inside to seat us either. We did however get the attention of a server who said "I'm just a server", but to his credit he did hurry off to try to get us some assistance. Luckily we had the coupon or otherwise we would have left like the other two parties behind us did. After another wait, we were finally shown to an open table less than ten feet from where we had been standing the entire time. Then the waiting began again, as it took a while before we were acknowledged (maybe because I'm not Roman Reigns? - inside joke for the wrestling fans out there), as there seemed to be a mixture of employees either running around or just standing around. On the bright side, our server seemed to be hustling as she was playing hostess, clearing tables and being a server all at the same time. She was very friendly and had a positive attitude, so that was a welcome change from my past experiences. Unfortunately (not a good sign having to use that word twice in a review but if the shoe fits...) she didn't come back to refill drinks or give us an apology for the wait or a status update on our food...so it was at this point we both agreed that we would have left by now (35 minutes and counting since we arrived) if we didn't have the coupon (not a good sign). She did eventually come back to provide a refill and tell us that she would have our food in less than 3 minutes. I hope no one placed a bet on the under as it never had a shot.. We are sure our food is sitting under the lights by this point as we see her waiting on other tables even though we are now at 12 minutes past the "less than three minutes" mark. The group at the table behind us just got up and walked out as they got tired of waiting and being ignored. Again, we would have done the same if not for the coupon... 15 minutes after the "it will be here in less than 3 minutes" statement, our food finally arrived and of course we got fries instead of tots and the food was lukewarm. We gave up, as we didn't want to wait another hour for a refire, so we asked for our check and proceeded to wait and wait and wait some more as we were told the manager was working on the coupon adjustment to our check (15 minutes). Finally after more than an hour at this place, less than ten minutes of which actually involved food and drinks, we received our check and bid farewell to our third and final time at this establishment, as unfortunately (there's that word again) not all things get better with time, three strikes and you're out, and in the case of Carolina Ale House, third time was not the charm. Carolina Ale House Management will never learn. Went in the other night and manager asked what my name was at the bar. Turned around to go to kitchen to never return. What is wrong with with this establishment?! The establishment was empty. The manager was a black man with glasses. When is Corporate going to shake up things and get a new management team. The locals are dying for a change. An so/so visit. Firstly they were low number visitors and still we stood at doorway for a few minutes before being greeted them longer yet to get seated. Place was barely busy. Then they tried seating us in the high top bar seats - we had little kids. Meals were fine and a credit the franchise for value added kids meals. The facility itself had some maintenance issues. We pointed out to staff an electrical issue and seemed like a trivial issue to them (see picture). Thank goodness the beers were cold and refreshing. Wait staff was overwhelmed- delayed getting utensil to eat apple sauce that was ordered or beverage too-offs. . And can't forget to share how the other waitress wet wiped a table to throw all the food and crumbs to the floor and left them for the duration. read more

Was missing the chili, an order of fries, and the dressing for the salad. And the bag was tied and stapled when we received it. So 3 of the 4 items we ordered were missing or incomplete. When I called, the female manager stated that she just got there and wasn't sure what happened. Clearly she didn't care. A few months ago they had 4 employees OD on the job (no joke). This is the second Carolina Ale House location that I visited and per my recommendation- it was amazing!! As a table, we shared Chicken Nachos and it was HUGE! It fed the entire table. I ordered a chicken tender salad, one friend ordered a salmon Caesar, another friend ordered wings, and another friend ordered the southwest burger. No one complained about their food.
