I spent a month in the hospital having four bypasses done and a month of rehab and simply was dying to get back to this restaurant where twice previously I had their prime rib sandwich which I thought was delicious both times. When I felt up to it I took a nurse there to lunch and ordered the prime rib sandwich while my friend ordered the same. Apparently three isn't a charm! Both sandwiches were mostly gristle and my friends soup was cold. When I was paying for the horrible gristle sandwich and the waitress offered to replace them with more of the same. The last thing I wanted was another gristle beef sandwich so it cost $70 plus dollars to wind up at Popeyes on the way home. I won't be back again ever. Our check should have been amended. read more

Let's start with what is pictured: the mud and grasshopper pies were good, just literally ice cream in pie form. Their mussels are SO amazing. The review isn't about the food ,, it's about reserving a room for a party. In July reserved a room for a retirement party In December. Circumstances beyond our control and had to cancel. Cost $150.00 to hold the room. Of course I should be getting it back but Not the case. I have visited to have it put back on my credit card on October 4 th. Wasn't done correctly and have made phone calls every week since.. each time being told it will be handled. My last two visits were complete disappointments. The food is good-not great, but the service is extremely substandard. The waitress was extremely apologetic in the end, but all the while avoided our table completely as our order was more than an hour late. And when she couldn't avoid contact because she was delivering food to everyone else around us who were seated after us, she would say our food was up next. I don't understand what is going on with this place. They are in a perfect area to be packed all the time. We actually stopped by on a Saturday night and the place was empty at 9:30. We ate there the other night and the service was bad. The guy was nice but slow and had no idea he had to clear the table, so we had to constantly give him the dirty dishes and glasses to make room and he didn't catch on. Initially, I was thinking 2 stars, but after my drive home, I decided that 2 stars was much too generous for this place. So 1 star for you. Let me explain... First off, Ive never been here before. I've heard of Carolina Blue, but never really been interested in going out of my way to try a bbq place in Pitman, let alone one that costs a small fortune to eat at. Think about it - I have Philadelphia in my back yard, why the hell would I risk a lousy meal at some wannabe place in South Jersey? So when the opportunity arose to meet some friends there after work, I decided to pull the trigger and give this place a shot. When I got there, I made sure to check yelp and see what others were saying before I even walked in. The 3.5 star average was troubling, but there were a couple emphatic reviews, including one raving about smoked wings. And you know how I do wings. When I met with my party, we all ordered different things, in an effort to try as much of the menu as possible. I went for the smoked sampler, priced at an unfathomable $22. For mine, I selected the pulled pork, bistro filet, and smoked wings. Great, right? WRONG. The wings were absolutely terrible. Im not even sure they are really smoked. Ive never had anything smoked that was still tough. That wasnt the worst part though, the wings were bland as hell, all I could taste was lighter fluid or something. I had others at the table try them too, and they all agreed the wings were God awul. Nothing to dip them in either. I was actually considering sprinking some sweet-n-low on them, I mean, you couldnt make them any worse, so why not? I ditched the last 2 and dug into the "bistro filet" - a fancy name for a cheap cut of steak. This too was barely smoked, and oh-so-bland. It actually tasted like a hot dog (but not a Nathan's). I couldnt eat more than 2 little slices without laughing. Again, I had others try some as well, and again, all agreed it was pathetic. So I ditched the last 3 pieces. So then there was pork. This should be your core competency as a BBQ restaurant. If you cant nail this, you shouldnt even be allowed open. The plate came with a little mound of pulled pork and 3 little toasted bread points (crostinis?). What the hell is this? Thankully, the pork was the least of the letdowns on the plate. Its not that it was good, it just wasnt as bad. Overall, still a huge disappointment. I also got to try other things at the table, including the pork belly "special" and mussels. Im not sure how the mussels made it on the menu, but they were actually decent. We asked for some bread to soak up the juice, and the waiter brought us a nice warm loaf. The problem was, it was far from fresh baked - it smelled like a dank basement, OR, like it was just thawed in the microwave. The pork belly was exactly what it sounds like - a giant hunk of pork fat with a sliver of meat at the bottom. It also tasted exactly llike it sounds. When the checks FINALLY came, reality set in, and suddenly $34 for sub-par food for one person, wasnt such a 2 star experience. Mind you, I had 3 domestic drafts, but still... for $20 I can gorge myself on fantastic BBQ at Sweet Lucys. It was yet another ten minutes of waiting before a server finally approached us. Had there been a spot at the bar we would have moved there. We were seconds from walking out the door. Carolina Blue tries its best to represent legit bbq in South Jersey - using local peach wood to impart their signature smoky flavor in pulled pork, ribs, and their thin-sliced bistro filet. However, if you only go to Carolina Blue for the bbq then you are missing the best part of the restaurant. I have been to Carolina Blue quite a few times and believe their seafood is even better than their bbq - crab cakes, mahi-mahi, and scallops are all solid choices, but they have some of the best sea bass in South Jersey. Be aware that sides are all a la carte, but the twice baked potato and the mac and cheese (adult style) are both nice additions to any entree. Although I try my hardest to only eat a few, I usually end up filling up on their blue cheese potato chips before my entree ever even comes. Or maybe it is the three glasses of sweet tea - I guess I'll never know. Service at Carolina Blue tends to be on the slow side and menu prices are on the high side, but it is a great choice for dinner in this part of South Jersey. The owners of Carolina Blue also operate the well-known Telford Inn in nearby Mantua. Carolina Blue also features live music, a lively bar scene with some pretty tasty signature cocktails, and special events so check the calendar on their website. We used our phones to read the menu 2 people orders she crab soup , one French onion one flatbread . We sat outside as our fears of being swarmed with insects were realized. I came here on a Friday afternoon after Cooper's Match Day Ceremony with a large group of about 10 people. We made a reservation well in advance since we knew it would be a large group and a strange time (3pm?!). Everyone from the hostess to the waiter to the busboy was exceptionally nice and accommodating to our large party. We did a champagne toast to begin with and ordered a few rounds of drinks. They did a great job of making sure to get our orders correct (several specialty cocktails) and kept them flowing! As for the food, we started with Calamari, Shrimp Dip and Sweet Potato Fries. They were all delicious, but the Sweet Potato Fries were exceptionally great. You don't normally see Sweet on the Appetizer section of a menu and it was a good change up for us! The dip is what makes it, so make sure you try this one! The Shrimp Dip came in close second. It was warm and creamy and had a good amount of shrimp in it. I would eat this every day if I could. The Calamari was delicious and just as you'd expect. A great traditional Italian appetizer! We had someone with a Gluten allergy, and their menu had several Gluten Free options which made it very simple for ordering! I ordered the Atlantic Salmon and nearly licked the plate! It was delicious!! I took the chef's advice and ordered it medium rare and it was flavorful and moist without being too raw. We all ordered something different off the menu, and no one was disappointed. For dessert I ordered a slice of the Grasshopper which is Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cake. The slice was about the size of my head and it was so great! Glad I split it with my dad though, the portion was humongous. The food is great 9 out of 10 times which helps to make up for poor service but good food can only help you overlook poor service so many times. This visit the food was subpar. 'My burger was not cooked medium at all and the pork belly looked like it sat under the heat lamp too long. Waited what seemed to be an hour for quick bar food when there was barely anyone in the restaurant. One person in our group ordered a little while after I did and he received his sandwich and ate the entire thing all before my burger eventually came out. This was same experience I had the last time I was there and I witnessed 2 couples leave the restaurant because they were waiting so long and couldn't take it anymore. Frustrating when a customer has to ask about the food multiple times. Would help the situation much more if the bartender/server proactively made an effort to realize things were taking longer than they should and offered to check on the order for you without you having to fee like your doing something wrong by asking what the delay is. I was taken aback from first walking into Carolina Blue. I was not expecting such a fancy ambiance from a BBQ restaurant. A steakhouse, sure. But a BBQ joint? Luckily I saw a couple other patrons in casual attire as well. BBQ is always expensive and Carolina Blue definitely falls into that category. Right away I knew my meal wasn't going to be able to compete with other southern New Jersey BBQ places when the pork belly appetizer came out. For some reason they decided to add some Asian flare and totally missed the mark. It was a chewy small piece of pork belly drenched in soy sauce and sprinkled with green onions. For $9 I thought I was going to get a preview of the delicious meat that was to come for my main course. After the appetizer it took about 35-40 mins for our dinner to be served. Isn't most BBQ food cooked low and slow all day? They're not making it from scratch at the moment it's ordered right? The pulled pork was smothered in so much BBQ sauce it reminded me of a sloppy joe sandwich. My husband's chicken was dry and unflavored. The only saving grace was his ribs which were just okay, but definitely saved the meal from a complete flop.
