I'm so thankful I did, because the super kind Animal Control Officer explained that the Rescue had CLOSED, but she directed me to reach out to the Save A Mutt Kennel because the dogs from Carolina Canine Rescue had been taken there. She then looked up the Kennel's phone number for me. I wish I knew this awesome young lady's name. She went the extra mile to get me to the right place.

They fully disclosed the cats' medical histories and ongoing issues, gave us a discount on the adoption fee because the cats were 15 and 11 and still needed extra medical attention, and one of the volunteers brought one of the cats directly to our home as she had been fostering him at her house and thought it'd be less stressful on him to bring him over rather than back to AARF for us to then bring home. Everyone we've met clearly loves animals and wants the best for the ones in their care. Highly recommend adopting through AARF! Last night we went to their holiday open house and tree lighting, so we got to meet more of their volunteers, and we were treated like part of the family. Sometimes you're so overwhelmed by the number of animals in a shelter you want to cringe or run back out. You might be tempted to do so here at CARA, but you'll be missing out. CARA is small brick building housing some of the nicest volunteers you'll meet anywhere. And they know how to have fun with all their animal residents, dressing them up in festive attire for their holiday pictures on the website, for example. It doesn't matter whether the volunteer is a dog person or a cat person, he or she will spend time with you visiting and interacting with the animals, answering questions and helping you find the perfect friend. On Thursdays, Cara stays open a little later so there's time for you to stop by after work to pick up your new friend, or visit or meet with the cats or dogs. When you stop in, you won't be required to complete paperwork or answer a million questions to get past the front door: the staff will take you right in to meet your (hopefully) future pet companion. The paperwork comes later, but it's a no pressure, stay as long as you like, environment.

They animals are in great condition and they genuinely care about the animals. They go over and above every day. The cats are not kept in cramped cages but allowed to move around freely in the bigger rooms. I adopted two cats and a dog from here. When I went to pick the first kitty up during the adoption, several people came up to me to give him a last hug. My second kitty developed a very bad virus and ended up needing special care. They literally took care of him for four weeks until he was well and I could come get him and bring him home. Very well run facility with exceptional staff and management!

Once you are approved, you can fill out your preferences and set a date a couple of days in advance to take a dog out. I loved the "Doggy Day Out" idea and had a blast! There are t-shirts you can purchase as well to wear...the idea is to get others to see the dog and ask questions in case they are interested to adopt them! I had this dog, Kingsley, for about five hours one day. We went on a long walk and then watched some TV for a while! He loved it! If you want to keep the dog overnight you can as well. They provide you with a fanny pack with some poop bags, treats, and a collapsible water bowl. Overall I had a wonderful experience and would come again!

You could tell that they truly care for the animals, and take very good care of them. The facility was clean, and the cats seemed in good health. Our little girl is so very sweet, and we are having such fun with her, and greatly enjoying her antics and her company. Thank you to all the girls who helped us that day. You made our day a memorable one!
