Food court, restaurant with bar, plenty of exercise space in the fitness center and upstairs, and benches to watch the games for the hockey or watch figure skating competitions. Well-organized for the NQS competition a few years ago and the 2026 Eastern Sectional Finals. Plenty of volunteers upfront if you have questions. Ice skating during free skate time was a lot of fun. My only complaint is that the place was SUPER CROWDED. I couldn't believe it...there were just so many people there, it made it difficult to really enjoy the time. It also was quite $$$ for a family of 4 to skate, rent skates and rent walkers for the little ones. They should give some sort of discount for young children/toddlers. Overall, it is always fun to ice skate, and this would have been amazing if it was cheaper and less crowded. read more

I have been here twice with my younger two kids (13 and 10). Both of them love it here! But it's not a great experience. I think spending $20/kid between skate rental, admission, and the use of a walker (and get those fast, they are often all gone from what I can tell) feels steep to me. Staff is generally friendly but not as helpful as they could be. For example, they never offer the walker so if you don't know about it, you will find out later and need to get back in line to pay for it and then go back to the equipment corner to get it. Frustrating! Schedule is posted on their site, check it because they seem to not allow skating every third hour, probably to let the ice get re-frozen, and they will still do a cleaning about an hour into the session, too. We were in town for a hockey game. I can't speak to my own personal experience, but what my son shared and what I observed. -plenty of parking -great shop on site!! Fastest turn around on ice skate sharpening we've experienced. Staff are all friendly and super helpful. Stopped in for a hockey game over the weekend. Friends daughter was playing and wanted to cheer her on. Location was easy to get into and there is plenty of free parking. The lot was pretty full though because the Citadel was also playing hockey at that time. Smaller arena had just enough seating for family and friends. Didn't order any food or drink, so can't comment on that. Didn't go upstairs either, so can't comment on that. Ice was frozen, which makes for a better hockey game. Zamboni driver seemed to know what he was doing. Kids had a blast and we enjoyed watching them play. read more

Carolina ice palace is fun but a tad bit dangerous! My friend was in town from Albuquerque and we went ice skating a few times when I lived there, so we decided to check this out! It was a lot different from the ice rink in Albuquerque. I enjoyed the frequency in which the ice is cleaned it made for a slippery ride and I wasn't expecting such a well maintained rink to be so far down south. It's also a pretty fair price. I don't remember how much it cost but I thought it was pretty affordable for an open skate. With that being said, I did have a few issues. Firstly, the service is just okay. It's not very informative and there are no signs that teach you how to lace up your skates. They also don't explain what's safe and what isn't. I feel this way about most skating rinks but I think in an ice rink being verbally told the rules or having an informational video play would be really helpful. I went to ask for my size skates and the attendant wasn't very helpful and just gave me a random pair. After getting over my initial fears and gaining some confidence, my friend, who is an ice hockey player fell. I also saw someone fall right on their face! I understand falling is a part of skating, but I think the reason we fell was due to the dullness of the rental skates and less due to faults in our technique. This place is definitely at your own risk. I overheard another patron telling her friends to ask for white skates bc the blades tend to be a lot sharper bc they aren't used as often. Overall, if you are looking for a fun place to hang out in north Charleston and a fun activity to do, this is definitely a great place! I would bring my own skates or at least ask for a sharper pair. Literally missed an hour of skating waiting for a pretzel... how hard is it to put a pretzel on a plate and fill a cup with cheese. The place itself is alright but management needs to watch more closely and make sure all areas of the business are operating smoothly and efficiently. We attended a party here last weekend for my son's classmate. We were in a private area with lots of tables and access to the food/drinks. There is also a door that leads out into the rink so you can avoid the busier public doors. The rink wasn't super crowded, like it can be during the holidays, and the rink supervisors (especially my buddy Matt) were keeping people in check and quick to get to people who had wiped out. My son needed one of the pvc pipe walkers ($3 to rent), as did a lot of the little kids. We used hockey skates (I played in college so you won't ever catch me in figure skates) and they were in good condition. read more

The first time was a wreck going, because of my toddler and some of the staff getting a little to close to the parent-child line. Our second visit with our daughter was a huge success! The staff are incredibly accommodating and it's not only technically handicap accessible but realistically accessible as well. The staff encouraged us to get the children up on skates, in the training squares or in adaptive equipment. They also reserved the majority of the rink for us and accommodated any needs we had to ensure our kids had fun. My students and I came here for a field trip over the summer and we had a wonderful time. Despite having a large number of students and adults to provide skates and walkers for, their staff moved quickly to get us onto the ice as soon as possible. Most of my students had never been on skates before, let alone skated. When we were on the ice, the kids were well supervised by the staff on the ice. They provided the children with lots of attention and were quick to get over to anyone who fell down to see if they were okay or needed help getting back up. My one complaint would be that, when scheduling and booking the trip, it was not communicated that the walkers would cost extra. Fortunately, we had over-budgeted for the trip, but had we not planned ahead that way, we would have been sadly surprised by the additional cost. My kids couldn't have skated safely without the walkers due to their inexperience, so this cost is something I feel should be mentioned early on in the booking process. read more

I was so happy to have found a full service ice rink in Charleston, but I've been disappointed at every turn by their staff. Impossible to get anyone on the phone at any hour of the day, pro shop is open MAYBE 15 hours a week (depending on the schedules of the 16 year olds who work there), free skate registry is incredibly over complicated and must happen online with additional service charges/fees etc , and I've wasted so much energy trying to reason with Brandon who is in charge of the recreational ice hockey leagues. Zero regard for player safety, officiating regularity, player happiness etc, and zero response to concerns voiced by league players. The organization of the Rec leagues is laughable at best, and would be funny if it didn't put the safety of players at such risk. Rec league is such a mess I'd be embarrassed to be a part of it if I wasn't so happy to be able to play regularly down south. This could be such an amazing place for so many skaters to enjoy if the staff wasn't so careless. Really a bummer. read more

They refused to let my friends and I use figure skates and made us use hockey skates because the figure skates were for people who took lessons only! This was terrible because I'm a roller skater and I need the support around my ankles because otherwise you can roll an ankle very quickly Unless you're a hockey player and can skate with your ankles at a different angle than your legs then don't waste your money. I felt like if I tried doing spins or going fast or backwards like I can with my roller skates I would snap my ankle because there's ZERO support. Needless to say, we left. A pretty good place to ice skate if you can skate...there are plastic walkers to aid amateurs. My kids like to skate here when they visit. I have never mastered any form of skating.. so just enjoy being a spectator on the sidelines filming videos. Looks like birthday parties are held here, I didn't try the food..pretty standard fast food selection...there's a bar area as well, and a nice retail shop on the left of the entrance. Skating prices are reasonable. If you are going to do this often, it would probably be best to buy your own skates..as skate rental selection is somewhat limited . My grown son wears a 9 1/2 , which is a pretty standard size? He could not find comfortable fitting hockey skates and switched them out twice and had to settle for ones too tight. Years ago he was the first to get injured here as a child right after they first opened wearing figure skates with sharp front edges cos they didn't have hockey skates that fit. He is now 30. He noticed that the figure skates now no longer have the sharp front edges like in the past . read more

I had never been ice skating before and was REALLY nervous. I'm really good at roller SKATING (not blading) but was coerced by friends. We got a $2 off military discount, and skate rental is included in the price. You trade in your shoes for skates and they also held my purse back there w/ my shoes for me. You can see everything back there so you know they're not going through it stealing anything, but then again you shouldn't keep your valuables with strangers anyways! Anyway, I got my skates on with some help from friends and I waddled my way back to the rink for the first time ever wearing ice skates. I got on the ice and WOAH. It is not as easy as it looks!!! Well after a few times around the ice, we finally tracked me down a walker! The only complaint I had is that there were a lot of kids using adult sized walkers so those of us that needed one had to wait quite a long time to get one because so many kids were taking the big ones instead of ones their size. Well once I got myself a plastic walker I was flying high! I had a lot of fun here. I only fell once and the girls working came over right away to make sure I was ok! The staff was very friendly. since I am clearly a skating novice, I can't say anything about the state of the ice or anything, except that once it gets rough it's tough, but I didn't really have any complaints! Very nice, and real cheap for military! Great way to just let loose and warm up the legs. Skates are decent and well kept, the rink is smooth and fresh, though the bathrooms can get a little nasty. Still, very happy there's a rink in the area! They offer plenty of support beams for the new skater, and it's not so crowded which I think is a great thing. read more

We had a good Family Day out here... It does seem to be CRAZY busy at the 1-3 open skate on Sundays, there were a lot of birthday parties going on, so we killed a couple hours next store at Lowes and came back for the 3:30-5:30 time, which was less crowded... I think its a bit silly that they make you rent the "walkers" for $3, that help you stabilize on the ice. This was a must for my 5 year old to stay balanced. I am glad they offer them, but I think for safety, they should just give them to you for free. The ice was very rough, a lot of little holes for your skates to get stuck in and trip over, I am not sure if the Zamboni driver is doing it right (don't you hate back seat Zamboni Drivers) I will say we will Definitely be back, as this is the only ice rink in the area, and my kids LOVED it... read more

Absolutely a nightmare for hockey players. I attended a tournament this past weekend. Wow. The dressing rooms are so small a Mite team couldn't change in there comfortably. The tiny little rooms are also connected by showers, so enjoy changing in sweltering heat. It'll feel great after an hour of destroying your legs and ankles trying to skate on soft, chunky, gouged-out ice. Not only is it insanely warm in the dressing rooms but also in the ice arena itself, resulting in ice so soft you're cutting grand canyons all over the place. Forget stopping safely in any corner, but specifically anywhere near the Zamboni entrance, where the ice levels ungulate like the greens at Augusta with ruts, gritty spots, tire stains, and spaces where the ice doesn't even properly meet the boards. This place is going to hurt somebody. Oh, speaking of hurting someone, a guy on our team broke his ankle in 3 places slipping on the floor of the bench that had 2 inches of standing water and enough room for half of a hockey team. Prepare for that lawsuit. For a venue that is as large as this is, clearly the priorities were not for hockey usage. This place is probably great for birthday parties, however I would be too afraid to let a novice skater on this horrid excuse for an ice surface. Lastly, and I save it for last because I don't know if this has anything to do with the venue itself, but we had an 18 year old and a 70 year old with glasses for referees. Needless to say, fights were happening all over the ice because they weren't calling a single thing. It was a slashing and checking free-for-all (its a non-contact tournament) which resulted in guys needing to take action into their own hands (and fists). Absolute joke. i visited a couple weeks ago and feel that my experience there needed to be known. Upon arriving the building looks a touch dated, but it's clearly marked for entertainment with the building design. Despite it's outward appearance, once we entered the building it looked in good repair with a nice atmosphere, however, that's about where it ended for us. We stopped at the front desk and waited for quite a while before my wife walked into the shop and asked if we could pay in there. The guy said no, but said he'd go find her and quickly did so. He peaked his head in a few doors before returning and stating that she was coming. A small line started to form behind us when we finally saw a rather large lady come from the door the shop clerk found her in. As she was coming through the door she was yelling everything but obscenities at some of the other employees. While I can't imagine working with or for someone like that, it's not my problem or concern. After taking what seemed like a belittlement for not knowing the different packages available for skating i was able to pay a fair rate for small family package that came with food. The front desk lady then quickly pointed us over her shoulder as she greeted the next customer. We followed her point to the shop, where we learned we didn't rent skates from there, the clerk did clearly explain where we needed to go though. Once arriving at the right place to rent skates we were greeted and asked by one employee what sizes we needed and told us that he needed our shoes to swap out while another employee with a reflector belt tied across his chest sat in the corner on his phone, when all of the sudden my wife and I heard the sounds of "love making" coming from his phone. We ignored it, but tried to keep out children back a bit and I ended up shuffling them to a bench nearby while my wife got our skates. Three of the four pairs of skates we got were in great condition with the last pair in what seemed like an ok condition and minus the series of knots in the laces. Once we got the knots out we didn't have any additional trouble out of them despite their obvious age. We finally got to what we came for... the ice skating. It's been a few years, but was able to hold my own and help the kids on the ice. We got about halfway around when my wife pointed out the kid with the reflector belt, who was getting on the ice. I told her to just ignore him, which worked for a while, until one of my kids fell and hit her head. He came skating over after my wife and I got her back on her feet. We were close to the door, so we just shuffled her over and sat on the bleachers. He then attempted to do concussion checks, improperly, may I add. Given this along with our previous encounter I was now super uncomfortable with the kid being anywhere near my child, so I asked if he could get a bag of ice to get him away. Seeing that my daughter was now dramatized and feared getting back on the ice, we decided to just go ahead and take our skates off and get our shoes back. The kid returned with the ice as we were putting our shoes on. As I was trying to console my daughter, he tried to start a conversation with us. I just ignored him hoping he'd go away, but my wife being too nice felt obligated to respond and had a short conversation with him before being able to end it. As he left, she turned to me and explained how he's not all there mentally. I'm not against giving handicapped people a job, but be selective about where you put them, they probably shouldn't be in safety control positions. While we wanted to go ahead and just leave we had already paid for the pizza and drinks, so we went to the snack bar to order it. There were 3 employees in there, all looking less than clean to say the least, but the overall appearance of the kitchen was clean. After waiting what seemed like an eternity, the pizza came out with under-cooked dough. After this we had had enough and decided to leave. First off, this is not a negative review. The Carolina ice palace is a great establishment with quality skates and decent food. The ice was also in great condition. MOST of the staff was very helpful and nice. However, one employee made our visit nearly unenjoyable (he was possibly mentally handicapped). When we first arrived there was a long like coming out of the room where you pick up skates and skate masters. Two employees were tending to customers while this man sat on his phone in the corner. This annoyed me and my wife a decent amount. He also seemed to be very rude and short to his employees. He was skating on the ice while me and my family were. This employee seemed to care more about fiddling with his radio sash than actually helping people skate. My youngest daughter fell down and he came over to "help" her. But this man definitely did more harm than help. He scared the hell out of her and yelled at my other children to back away from their hurt sister.
