My 2003 Dodge Dakota was starting to show signs of wear with the clear coat peeling away from the hood. I also had some dents on the tailgate and rails as well. With this being said, I decided to have my hood repainted and body work prepped for a new sprayed in bed-liner. I called around to a few shops and it seemed that they weren't interested in doing this type of work, since it wasn't an insurance claim. I was shocked to learn this and kept looking. I was very happy I found Kaled NW. Benjamin and his crew answered all of my questions and didn't hesitate to provide me with an estimate for my needs. Once the work was completed, I was blown away from what my truck looked like then, compared to now. It's a new truck! The attention to detail and customer service is outstanding. I'm certain once you speak with Benjamin and provide the details needed for your vehicle, you'll have the same experience I had. Give them a call and schedule an appointment. You'll be glad you did.

I received an acceptable quote and scheduled to bring it in. It was inspected by the owner and said there was more work than anticipated and will cost more than what was quoted. Understand that I didn't disagree with the owner, he explained very well what needed to be done, how much work was involved and was very fair in the cost. But this was just a work truck and the damage didn't interfere with the operation and didn't look too bad. I just didn't see investing much in an older truck. Bottom line is, don't rely on an online quote but I would still consider Kaled. They appear to be a very reputable company.

Failure to do so may result in additional costs and time-consuming rework. I experienced this inconvenience firsthand when I brought my vehicle in for minor repairs, including a dent and scratches. Despite my vehicle being in good working condition, the repairs ultimately caused malfunctions in my electronic key prompts, door locks, and keyless entry system. It appears that an issue arose during the disassembly and reassembly process, which affected my vehicle's electrical system. Although the service center claimed to have consulted with an electronic IT specialist, they were unable to diagnose the problem. We were advised to seek assistance from my own purchase vehicle shop, with the possibility of reimbursement if the issue was deemed to be the service center's responsibility. However, this would necessitate my assumption of responsibility for rentals during diagnostic time, incurring several hundred dollars in out-of-pocket expenses for diagnostic services, excluding the cost of repairs. I now still driving my vehicle unfix. I'm thoroughly disappointed with the outcome, which has created a new problem following the initial repair. The one positive aspect here is the expediency of the repair time.

We just don't find these rare cream puffs much anymore! After the head was taken off by a mechanic, he found out it had a cracked piston below that burnt valve. So, I did a ton of research, and where it used to be you could find machine shops all over the city - NOT ANY MORE! One place had a 9 month waiting list! Whoa! I finally found James, at Independent Cylinder Head. He could work on my engine in about 2 weeks! And the quoted price was really reasonable too!! Super nice and helpful on the phone, and after talking to him for a while, I find out he has tons of experience at other machine shops. He went out on his own, and is the owner of this shop. Great! I picked up my engine from the mechanics shop, loaded it into my pickup, and dropped it off for James to work on. We decided to not do a rebuild, with keeping old parts that were still good, but do a re-manufacture with all new parts. The only old parts were the block, the head, and the crank...only because it wasn't available brand new. My engine will be essentially brand new after he finishes!!! It didn't take long at all and I was over picking up my new engine! I dropped it off at my mechanic, and waited for him to get to it. Not getting into all of that wait - Phew! He finally got it done but the mechanic I had chosen, couldn't get it timed right, and wasn't patient enough to work through it! I would barely run...and I certainly couldn't drive it as it was. I was outta there. This mechanic had no affiliation with James at Independent Cylinder Head. Since he had been so helpful and kind, I called James and asked his opinion on what to do. He said he had a mechanic buddy, that he used to work with for a long time, that had his own shop. He'd call him for me and see if he could do my timing/tune up. He called back soon, and I was in to his buddies shop in 2 weeks! He had a couple of jobs ahead of me. I had my car towed to his shop. The day after I dropped it off to the new mechanic, two hours into the day, he called and said my car was all fixed and was running great and I could pick it up! WOW! James came through for me again! What a quick and good mechanic friend he had. I went to pick up my car in Milwaukie, OR and drove it home to Beaverton, OR without an issue! I was doing 60mph on Hwy 217, with my little 6 cylinder 235cu.in. without effort! It was purring like a kitten! Just like I wanted!!!! :) Little did I know, the mechanic called his friend James, after finishing my car, and told him how it was doing. Then, a day later, James called me to make sure everything had gone well with his recommended mechanic friend! That was a surprise! ... What a nice man James is to care so much about his customers to call and find out how satisfied I was with his recommended mechanic friend. I told him I was super happy with the mechanic, the speed he fixed it in, and the low cost, and how happy I was to hear from him (James). I don't care if you've called 50 machine shops across the country and found one you figure you'll use. STOP! Call James, and TAKE YOUR ENGINE TO HIM! We just don't get this type of incredible service that James supplies anymore! I would think I was back in the 1960's and he was right down my street and gave me the neighborhood friendly service or something! I highly suggest this very nice and dependable machine shop owned by James. I'm gonna be 69 years old in 2 months, and I'm telling ya, we just don't get this lucky very often anymore to find this exemplary service from shops! If anything, we hear about how so & so shop charged so much and didn't do a good job after paying that much! Not so with James! He takes me back to when incredible service was THE MOST IMPORTANT THING in doing a job for a customer. James is a one of a kind GEM!

When I returned, my car had been intentionally blocked in by an employee's vehicle. At first, the employee claimed the car wasn't his, but I later saw him move it--only after I paid him, because at that point I felt scared and trapped. The employee confronted me and told me that the tow truck was already on the way and that unless I paid him cash immediately, my car would be taken. He initially demanded $150, and I only managed to get him down to $100 because I was panicking. He refused to move his car until I paid. This did not feel like a legitimate parking enforcement issue--it felt like intimidation and coercion. For clarity: The employee told me directly that if I didn't pay him cash on the spot, the tow truck would come and take my car. I want to be clear: if I had knowingly parked where I wasn't supposed to, I would understand receiving a real citation or being towed through proper channels. But being blocked in, pressured for cash, lied to, and threatened with towing felt extremely inappropriate, unsafe, and unprofessional. I was genuinely scared. This was an upsetting and alarming experience, and it could have been handled in a completely proper and respectful way--but it wasn't. I believe others should be aware of what happened before choosing to interact with this business. Please see the photos below of the Cash App transactions showing the payment I felt forced to make. Given how serious and predatory this felt, I honestly think the news and local authorities should be aware of this behavior.

Communication was responsive at first but declined significantly after the car was dropped off. Texts and emails about the repair timeline and rental car coordination often went unanswered, and my name was repeatedly misspelled despite being originally correct in their system. I was explicitly texted that my car would be ready by 4:00 PM on the scheduled pickup day, and the rental car company was notified as well. When I followed up later that afternoon due to no confirmation, staff appeared confused that I believed the car was ready, despite the prior message and the rental company being informed. I did not receive clarification until right before close, when I was told the car was not ready due to a missing mud flap. This message arrived to me on a day they closed at noon, which prevented pickup Friday and now created an issue for pickup altogether for me since I was leaving town Sunday and they aren't open weekends. I was told Monday the vehicle could not be held, and my boyfriend went out of his way to retrieve it. Approximately 2.5 hours after the car was picked up, I received a message stating that the remaining parts (mud flap and step pad) were available, which was confusing given that the vehicle had just been released and the urgency of pick up while I was out of town. The final cost exceeded $5,000, which felt excessive compared to the insurance estimate of $1,029, even accounting for differences. They did offer to complete the remaining work at my house, which I appreciated, but scheduling proved difficult due to delayed responses. Communication only resumed once I agreed to bring the vehicle back in myself. Positives: the repair looks good, the car was cleaned and waxed, and the automated phone system was convenient for scheduling. Overall, while the workmanship was solid, the high cost, inconsistent communication, and scheduling issues made this a frustrating experience. I would not return.
