Arrived in Key West late because my flight was delayed. I needed a place to get a drink and something to eat that was open late. Caroline's fit the bill. I had conch fritters which were perfectly fried, tender, moist and delicious. For my entrée, I had the grilled shrimp club sandwich, which was served with fries. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. The shrimp was perfectly cooked tender and juicy served. Overall an excellent experience Kara was a great waitress. Omg ! This place is amazing ! I can't say it enough ! Having a family with you and kids included it is very hard to find a family friendly restaurant at some of these places on Duval Street. We were casually walking and shopping doing the usual touristy stuff and came across this place. I walked up and asked if they could accommodate us and they did ! Not only did they take into consideration that we had kids, but they knew the what was so bad so they put us inside. The hostess took us inside to a room which seemed almost like a private room and we had it al to ourselves ! Our servers name was Alex I believe and he was great. He was constantly checking on us and making sure we were good along with the kids. We sat down and ordered some drinks and the tornado lovers bruschetta as an app - which by the way... AMAZING !!!! It was delicious. We also had the Texas egg rolls and wow the flavor and texture was amazing ! We immediately ordered food for the kids and they brought it very quickly so they could start eating. Our entrees were all excellent. The mahi mahi was by far the best in my opinion. I got it blackened for my sandwich and the it was just perfect. The jambalaya was pretty good too ! For our final meal in Key West, we headed to Caroline's on Duval Street. Several friends had recommended this place for great people watching. It's located directly across from the Hard Rock. We sat at a counter overlooking Duval and enjoyed a few beers. The restaurant's manager came over to introduce herself and told us that we must try an awesome Cajun Shrimp dish that's not on the menu. Bingo, she was right. I can tell this place is well managed. The servers are very responsive and food comes out hot from the kitchen. I just wish we had more time to order more. It's high on my recommended list for our next visit. read more

We came here late at night when most restaurants were closed already. We came during the pandemic which was why a lot of restaurants closed early. We came here twice during our key west trip. We got the same thing twice. The dolphin sand which which was good. Nice portion of fish. Also the blackened chicken Cajun pasta was very good. It is spicy in my opinion so if you don't like spicy, I wouldn't recommend it. For drinks I got a key lime mojito was wasn't good. I though it needed a lot more sweetness. I also got the margarita which was basic. Drink wise, they were pretty cheap around $9 but not good. I wouldn't go back for the drinks. The restaurant is located in the heart of Duval street so it can get loud and lively if you come during the prime time. Overall I enjoyed the food and the environment. I don't feel like my review is going to really be too fair. My experience was good but not great. When we arrived apparently they were getting close to last call. I think we only had 1 maybe 2 drinks before they closed. One cool things is that the bar only had locals at it so that was a fun experience. I did notice that the manager was sort of a jerk to the bartender. Instead of kindly talking to her and asking her to do something he came with a bit of an attitude and told her what needed done. We did sit outside at the bar and not the actual restaurant. I also heard staff saying the restaurant didn't have water at the moment. The bar was tiny and the outdoor seating area seemed cool. A wonderful key west feeling lunch. Quaint atmosphere with hens, roosters and pigeons wandering aimlessly around while patrons eat and enjoy libations. We ordered BBQ wings which crispy, tender and tasty. Son got the club sandwich which was "perfect" according to him. Loaded w ham and turkey, bacon and just the right amount of mayo on multigrain toast. A heaping helping of fries too Wife had portobello sandwich. It was served w garlic mayo, melted cheese and onions. She loved it. I got the shrimp club which was exceptional. Generous amount of grilled shrimp on multigrain toast. After waiting at a table for over twenty minutes without any service at neighboring The Grand we left and decided to try Caroline's next door. Caroline's was packed while there was almost no one at the Grand. I think that's for good reason. The service and food at Caroline's was excellent. We ordered some drinks and lunch. I went with the Shrimp Club Sandwich while my dining companion had the Famous Fish Sandwich. Both were very fresh and delicious!!! Our server was polite, helpful and professional. We enjoyed our lunch so much we went back to Caroline's for some drinks in the evening. The bartender was the fastest and most professional bartender we've encountered. She was a real class act. Had perfect table to people watch on Duval St. Chose Caroline's because Surprisingly we had the darnedest time finding a restaurant in KW that had grilled fish sandwich so deliberately went to Caroline's after a Google menu search. Yeah.....they had grilled fish sandwiches but I'm beginning to think there is an anti seafood seasoning campaign happening. Third restaurant we ate at with food that had no salt, no pepper, no old bay, no nothing. The tartar sauce was a thin mayonnaise, no relish, no added seasoning. Had to ask for lemon. Even the hot fries were plated saltless. And then had to manhandle the salt grinder that was laid useless due to humidity. The fish was fresh and well grilled, but pretty flavorless. Meh! This restaurant is right on Duval street and it was jam packed when we came in. The food is bland and doesn't taste too great. I had the shrimp BLT and it was sooooooo bland. All I could taste was the bacon. Super disappointing. My husband had the dolphin burger and he also said it didn't taste like much. Amazing for gluten free people! My mom is celiac so eating gluten free is extremely important. Not only did they have gluten free options, but the staff 100% understood the importance and went out of their way to ensure that everything was ok for my mom to eat. My husband and I spent a couple of days in Key West so we stopped by one day during our Duvall crawl for lunch. We both ordered the same Shrimp Bacon and Swiss Sandwich. I must say it was not bad, not the best I have ever had, that would be Cheesecake Factory, but not bad. The sandwich was a triple decker which I thought was not really necessary. Who needs extra bread especially when it does not add to the flavor of the sandwich. the shrimp were plentiful but a little undercooked. It was lunch time and the kitchen may have been a little rushed but attention to detail never hurts. The side of fries was fine. They probably would have been wimpy if I had not asked for well done. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. I would say that when I return to Key West I might drop by again, order something else and try Caroline's again. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the food is tasty albeit heavy, and the plentiful outdoor seating is perfect for being in the hustle and bustle of Duval St. If you don't want to eat, you can come for a drink at the bar located right by the sidewalk. My friends and I decided to split 3 items among the 3 of us and the waiter was nice enough to have the kitchen cut them in threes. Tex Mex Rolls: These caught our eye and we knew we couldn't do without them. Homemade fried egg rolls are filled with spicy chicken, corn, black beans, a healthy sprinkle of melted cheese, cilantro and onion, and then cut open lengthwise. All of the flavors and ingredients made this hearty and we loved it. Cajun Blackened Chicken Sandwich: Although Caroline's seems to be known for their seafood, this sandwich was the favorite among all of us. A succulent piece of chicken is blackened with the most amazing seasoning. It is then topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and spicy mayo. Shrimp Po Boy: A simple sandwich, a fresh roll is topped with lettuce, tomato, spicy mayo, and a hefty serving of breaded and fried shrimp. Inside the breading the shrimp was succulent, making for another successful dish. They also offer pastas, salads, specialty drinks and more. The menu is quite extensive and it all just seems like good down home cooking. Prices were fair and we each spent under $11; one of the cheapest meals of our vacation. It was perfectly friend and simply delicious! Paired with the conch fritters we ordered, we set ourselves up for a great Key West lunch! Yet, I will say that my fiance's dolphin (mahi mahi) sandwich needed some TLC: definitely over-cooked and lacking unique sauces and other flavors.
