We came in during our trip down to SD for the day before my niece went back to school. The view was amazing and the weather was perfect we sat outside and we enjoyed the view of the waves. Breakfast is good, it's your typical breakfast nothing special. The service was great . Overall we enjoyed our experience here at Caroline's Seaside Cafe...

The menu - the perfect size.

This was the perfect spot for a last minute trip to San Diego! You order your food and the owner does a great job of finding you the best table option for your party. The staff was attentive and kind. The views are picturesque and just what we needed for a little escape. They do need to upgrade the restroom. One RR for both men and women. With a restaurant this size, you need at least one more stall.

MUST VISIT! My friend and I visited on a sunny Friday for brunch. There was a short wait to order (15 min, but reasonable for the popularity and view), and the food arrived within 30 min. They had assigned our seating prior to placing our order. The Southwestern scramble ($18) was very average with an appropriate amount of food and the eggs and potatoes were well seasoned. However, the STAR of the show was the white albacore tuna melt ($18). Stuffed with tuna, layered with caramelized onions, crispy sourdough, and paired with a creamy potato salad - I was BLOWN away. I think about this sandwich frequently. Pricing is fantastic for a PRIME San Diego beach view and good food.

What an amazing spot! The view of La Jolla Shores, the cove, and the pier are breathtaking. Surfers, kayakers, Beach walkers. And the food was so good. I had the American scramble and it was more than I could eat. Fresh eggs, fried potatoes, and full flavor sour dough toast. The staff was helpful and very nice too. You order before taking a seat. Great beach atmosphere.

Took a road trip to San Diego and decided to try this place because the menu looked good and the scenery looked amazing. The view of the beach was honestly the best part. It was gorgeous and definitely made the experience better. The food itself was okay, but a bit overpriced in my opinion. I got the grilled chicken sandwich and it wasn't bad, just not the best chicken sandwich I've had. The fries honestly seemed like they came out of a frozen bag, and they were served on this tiny fry plate which felt kind of weird for a nicer restaurant. My partner got the 2 eggs any style with bacon and potatoes, and hers was actually really good. Simple but delicious. I honestly should've ordered something from the breakfast menu instead. The parking situation was also kind of a mess. The parking app wasn't working so we couldn't pay at first, but thankfully the EV parking worked for us. Overall, it was a nice place to try at least once for the view and atmosphere, but I probably wouldn't come back.

Such a great place for brunch with an awesome ocean view. Parking is difficult since it's restricted to the streets. Ordering has to be done first before grabbing a seat. Go early because there is always a long line. There is plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoor. Servers are friendly and attentive. They were really quick in cleaning the tables for the next guests. Our food was delicious with generous portions. I really enjoyed my smoked salmon on an Everything Bagel. Will definitely come back!

ATTN: Show UCSD ID for 30% off! (They don't actively advertise this so just remember to let them know/show it when you order) Came here with a friend for brunch/lunch on a weekday. My roommate told me about this place and mentioned the great views of the ocean. There were only a few people in line in front of us when we arrived and the cashier was quick. I ordered the tuna melt with fries and my friend opted for the chilaquiles. Tuna melt was delicious (a little too oily but the flavor was definitely there); fries were average. My friend liked her chilaquiles; she said it was better than average but not the best she's ever had. It took some time for the food to come out but understandable given how busy they were. The views were incredible and made the time go by way more quickly. The outside seating area is a great place to sit. Items can be pricey but the discount makes it worth it! Parking isn't great and restricted to the street which was pretty challenging even on a weekday so come earlier if possible to account for the extra time. I really enjoyed my experience, and I can see myself bringing guests.

03/18/2026 Great spot for breakfast or lunch with a beautiful view of La Jolla Shores! We shared the smoked salmon ($18), which was generous with the cream cheese, capers, and fresh veggies. The side of fruit was very sweet and refreshing. We also loved the sides: the Applewood Smoked Bacon was "smoking" good and the potatoes were piping hot. Our only minor letdown was the hot cocoa; it could have been warmer.

Avocado toast (doesn't look like much, but it was delicious)

Caroline's was amazing! The food was great, and you can't beat the view on the patio. The avocado toast was so good, one of the best avocado toasts I've had. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you, it can get very busy, but there always seemed to be a steady flow of people In and out for seating. The staff was great, super fast clearing tables. When we found a spot it a was in the sun, and a bit of a warmer day, someone on the staff even tried to get us in the shade! There was a lot near the building where you pay to park, though I think it may be off limits during the week. There was also street parking if you don't mind walking a bit. Overall we had a great experience! It definitely gets busy. We went on a Saturday around 9, but by the time we left the line was triple what it was when we got there. I recommend going early.

*If you get here early you can get a nice seat inside or outside with a window view of the ocean! But you will see the ocean regardless where ever you sit which is nice.* Food - 10/10 Food was great, no complaints! All of our dishes came hot and fresh. We shared a Turkey Apple Sausage Scramble and banana pancakes. Very typical breakfast items are offered here but they are made well and tasted great! We also ordered a hot chai & hot mocha and those were so delicious as well. This cafe is really lovely and quaint. It's not a large breakfast spot but it has a good amount of tables outside and maybe a handful inside. I would definitely come back again!

Amazing café with a breathtaking ocean view! The atmosphere is absolutely perfect -- enjoying a coffee while watching the waves was such a great experience. The food was delicious, everything tasted fresh and was beautifully served. The staff was also very friendly and attentive. Definitely a place I would love to visit again!

The day we went it wasn't crowded and the food came out really fast. It's your standard American breakfast food done right. The weather was amazing and it's such a vibe dining next to the ocean. I do think it might feel kind of hectic when it's busy tho. You order before you get seated and get to pick your own seat so that is nice but def a disorganized factor to it when busy. Overall would come back esp for the view and food was good too.

The highlight of this restaurant is the view- An amazing view of the pacific ocean and the Scripps pier. The food is good and a lot of selection. The minus is limited/no parking. So street parking and walking to the restaurant unless you have the required UCSD parking. Avoid Thursday am W Street cleaning.

Ask the Community - Caroline's Seaside Cafe by Giuseppe

    What is the parking situation?

There's no parking but there's a bunch of street parking! There's a parking lot by the cafe however it's reserved for students or people authorized to park there and you could get a fine for parking there. So go early to get parking and beat the…

Pet friendly? Do they allow for outdoor dining with pets?

Yes, must be on leash; cannot be on your lap (must sit or lie in deck); of course, the usual appropriate pet conduct: no barking, begging, biting! Almost all of the tables are outside.

Do they still have the butternut squash panini? I can't find it on their online order menu.

Yea they do have in the menu in the bottom..

Where can you find parking on the weekdays?

There are free public parking down the road ( along the same beach ) . 5 minutes walk .

    Does this restaurant take reservations?

    I don't think so. It's a pretty casual place.

    Do people study/work here?

    Nope

Is the restaurant handicap accessible? Husband can't do stairs and uses a walker.

There is a ramp with easy access from the backside (street side)

What is a typical wait on a weekend morning around 9/9:30?

I usually go around this time and only wait 10-15 minutes in line, get a table right away, and wait 15-20 minutes for food. Some weekends are busier than others but I've never had an issue when I arrive before 10am.

Are strollers for kids allowed in the breakfast/cafe area?

    Yes!

What is the best time to go?

We go for brunch on weekends ... best time then is before 11:00 am.

How's the parking for Sunday lunch? Any disabled parking?

There is disabled parking, but it is still not the best- down the hill from the restaurant

Do they have a UCSD faculty discount?

Yes, they do! Not on booze though :(

Are dogs allowed in the patio?

    Yes they are.

When I arrived, the server was about to seat me even though my family member hadn't arrived yet. However, the manager asked me to wait outside until my entire party was present. She explained that because they serve food quickly, they didn't want to seat me or have me order coffee while I was waiting for the second person. Once we were seated at 11:00, it took about 25 minutes, and me having to flag down our server, before we were able to place our food order. What made this especially confusing was that the table behind us, a party of seven, was seated with only two people present. They were served coffee while waiting for the remaining five members of their group, which seemed inconsistent with the explanation I had been given. The food itself was good, although the chicken sausage I ordered was not served hot. During the meal, no one checked on us to ask how everything was or whether we needed anything. At the end, we also had to get the attention of another server in order to receive our bill. The service has always been excellent on previous visits, which is why this experience was disappointing. That said, we've enjoyed this restaurant for a long time, and it's one of our family's favorite places to eat. Because of our past experiences, I'd be happy to return and hope this was simply an unusually busy or off day for the team.

First, while we were waiting for our table, we were told that the coffee near the check-in area was complimentary while we waited. When we were seated, we brought our coffee cups with us, only to find out later that we had been charged $5 each for our coffees. We didn't say anything, but it definitely didn't leave the best taste in our mouths. So double check your bill if you pick up a free coffee while waiting for your table. One of my favorite meals here is the risotto Benedict. It was still good, but unfortunately, it didn't taste quite as good as it normally does. After we left, my stomach was very upset, and I ended up having to make an emergency stop at the La Jolla Shores bathrooms before heading home. Our waiter was also a little slow. It took quite a while for our water to give us water after a long walk on the beach and then our bill took forever as well. On top of that, the waiter commented "Impressive" because I had finished my entire plate. I had been fasting for 24 hours, but regardless, I don't think commenting on how much a customer eats is really appropriate. It was just a little strange. Anyway, just a heads-up. I'm sure I'll come back, and hopefully everything will be back to normal and great as usual!

However, Jade ensured that we enjoyed our meal at the Shorehouse Kitchen. At brunch, my go to dish is the French toast that will tell me the quality and care from the kitchen. I was blown away at how delicious the French Toast was. The name is the "CARAMELIZED TAHITIAN VANILLA BEAN FRENCH TOAST with Fresh Blueberries or Bananas and Chantilly Cream, or a Grilled Pineapple". Jade gave away the secret ingredient to me and I was impressed. An applied Maillard reaction with brown sugar brought the French Toast a new level of yumminess. The Chantilly Cream took it over the top, not to sweet and very creamy. Yum!!! Also tried the "RASPBERRY TRUFFLE MOCHA St. George Vanilla Bean Vodka. Raspberry Liqueur, Callebaut Belgian Chocolate, Espresso, Steamed Milk, Chantilly Cream" . AMAZING!!! The Shorehouse Kitchen is a gem with fantastic food and service. Please stay away, the food was unacceptable, especially for the price. I had the fish and chips. The fries tasted old, as if they had been reheated from the day before. The fish was overly battered, had no flavor, and was completely tasteless. I ate a small piece of fish and a couple of fries, but I had to stop eating because it was honestly gross. My husband ordered the steak frites and received the same fries as I did. The steak had a strange taste, and the "chimichurri"-type sauce was inedible. My husband also stopped eating his food. We let our server know that the food was not good. He asked what was wrong and then asked my husband if he had ever had Gorgonzola cheese before. I'm not sure how that was relevant, considering we had simply explained that the food did not taste good. I told the server that we were sorry we couldn't eat the food and that we were happy to pay for our drinks and appetizer, which we did. For a restaurant that charges a significant amount of money for mediocre food, you would think a manager would come to the table and ask why two guests returned their meals after barely eating them. Unfortunately, it was clear that customer satisfaction was not a priority. Very disappointing experience. There are plenty of better options where your money will be much better spent. Puesto! around the corner is one.

But, I decided on a 5 because, in the more than 30 years that I have been dining at the Brockton Villa, I've never had a bad meal, nor a marginal one, they've all been spot on. It's easy to enjoy the perch on the side of the hill, with an immediate view of the Cove and the further views of the Shores, Glider Port and on a clear day, Torrey Pines. What comes with that view, is the smell of nature, and on Tuesday, it was stronger. It didn't interfere with our meal. The wait staff are all friendly, experienced, and approach the table appropriately. I can't relate to a setting where the server is there every couple of minutes. I tend to eat there more for breakfast and lunch, dinners less commonly. The menu is diverse enough for 2 picky eaters to always find something fantastic. On Tuesday, I had the clam and crab chowder and it was superb. I grew up in New England, the epicenter of chowders. I am known amongst friends, for the many chowders that I make at home. The salmon BLT is a recurrent favorite, as is the basic breakfast, tweaked to your preferences, with a wide array of protein options. The family was pretty excited to try this place out and by the end of the meal, every single member of my family (all 5 people) were angry. The service was horrific. We came during lunch, they were not particularly busy and we were seated within 5 minutes. Let's start with the food. I ordered a $25 Wagyu burger and it was unseasoned. Not under seasoned, UNSEASONED. The patty was overcooked. I asked for medium rare and it was well done to a point where it was not even remotely enjoyable. This $25 burger did not come with fries, it came with a very small bowl of salad that had no salad dressing. The wrap my wife ordered was mediocre and lacking any flavor. The shrimp inside was good but everything else was bland. The one thing that was good was the seafood chowder. It was excellent. Very flavorful and rich. The best tasting thing at our table were the children's tater tots and the clam chowder to be very honest. Now onto the service. The service is arguably worse than the food. The waiter looked annoyed to take our order but what is egregiously worse than that is that in our entire time sitting there eating our food for more than 45 minutes, our server (or any member of the wait staff) literally did NOT come back once to check on us or ask us if the dishes were good or to give anyone water refills (we ordered a coke and that was not refilled the entire meal). I want to reiterate, we literally did not get a refill of our waters or the coke we ordered 1 time the entire meal. Our waters were empty 10 minutes into the food arriving but because no member of the wait staff came by to check on us, we resorted to drinking out the water bottles we brought ourselves. We tried to flag down a member of the wait staff 3 times and after, my wife just said 'let's just try to get out of here as soon as possible. This is ridiculous'. I also want to be clear, we were not in a separate room or in the corner, the door of the restaurant was visible, the bar where they serve alcohol was visible from our table. The wait staff just chose not to check on us and ignore our hands in the air trying to flag them down. They came after more than an hour to drop off the check without saying anything to us or ask about how the food was. We were so angry by that point we did not even bother to ask for a refill of water or coke. We just wanted to leave as soon as possible.
