This morning I had an amazing breakfast burrito that was packed with flavor not to mention the fresh ingredients and warm tortilla really set this breakfast burrito apart from the rest. I customized it with beef birria, homemade guacamole, and breakfast potatoes. It was perfectly crunchy on the outside with all the ingredients meshing perfectly on the inside. This isn't something that's on the menu normally, so you'll have to ask for it. The secrets out, The Cottage in Del Mar makes the best burritos in the area! They also carry bottled Mexican Coca-Cola, which was exactly what I needed for a Sunday morning recovery (thanks Anthony Bourdain). The girlfriend is obsessed with their Clydesdale--a coffee they roast at their other location. It's espresso brewed over cinnamon and brown sugar, and honestly, it's life-changing if you've never tried it. I also had a simple side salad with homemade lemon vinaigrette, pickled carrots, tomatoes, and cucumber. It was fresh, light, and the perfect compliment to the meal. The service and the staff are always a big part of why we keep coming back. I enjoyed the La Jolla location but this one did not live up to that standard unfortunately. We came at a less busy time, and sat indoors. The omelet was great, but the French toast tasted bland, and they charge for each fruit you add to it, so if you want bananas and blueberries you need to pay extra, which I found odd since the La Jolla location just brought a medley of fruit. The biggest disappointment was the syrup--it wasn't maple syrup but what looked like house-made pancake syrup, and the consistently was an unappetizing gooeyness instead of viscous. For the prices they charge I at least expect maple syrup, not high fructose corn syrup for my French toast. I grew up in La Jolla and always remembered my mother and her friends going to The Cottage for brunch and many times I went with her. It was great back then and it is still good now. I have been to many different restaurants in this location here in Del Mar and I would say this is one of my favorite ones that has been here. The Cottage is a solid breakfast or brunch option and it is usually pretty consistent and quick. Parking is plentiful in the parking garage attached, the first two hours are free. We were able to be seated for a party of three right when we arrived and our server was very polite. Inside is quite small, there aren't any very large tables however, it has a very cozy and homely feel to it. Service is also very fast so the tables will turn quickly. They have indoor seating and also outdoor seating which can be really nice depending on the weather. For my breakfast I chose the Chilaquiles and added chorizo. Unfortunately, it was soy chorizo, I wish they would have the real thing, but it was still really good. I also got a Cinnamon Roll and thought it was just OK. In the meantime, no server checked on us to see how our food was nor did they refill water. Eventually, my husband went inside to ask for our bill. When our server delivered the bill she asked how we enjoyed our food, so I told her that i hadn't been able to eat the benedict and that even my husband had trouble with it. She then brought the manager who took half the price of the benedict off our bill. I thought deducting half was odd (half was a first on me), but probably fair since he did eat it. What a beautiful, bigger than it looks, small restaurant that we just happened upon on our way down to San Diego thanks to YELP! We wanted to find a scenic place, close to the beach with good food and we TOTALLY found that! There's paid parking, free for the first hour then three dollars every thirty mins. Although they do leave the butter and jam out for who knows how long and there was dust or some kind of fuzzy in mine, which wasn't very appetizing. On a Sunday, I met up with a couple of friends for brunch at The Cottage in Del Mar. We chose it because it was a convenient for friends coming from North San Diego County, and going to this area of Del Mar is really lovely. However, it is crowded, and parking can be challenging on weekends. We met at just about 11:30. We checked in and were told that for our party of three, it would be about a 20 minute wait. Unfortunately, it turned into 45 minutes. There are some public benches along the street to wait, however it wasn't very comfortable and the sun was beating on us a bit. Anyway, the wait did give us some time to catch up, so we made the best of it. When we were seated, we got a table outside, which was a nice area with a bit of a view and some people-watching opportunities. Service wasn't super friendly, but it was efficient. The menu was quite large with both breakfast and lunch choices. The drinks varied form some breakfast cocktails to coffee drinks to juices. I was feeling a bit thirsty, and had already had some coffee, so I chose the watermelon juice. It was fresh and delicious. Not too many brunch places actually offer watermelon juice. I struggled between choosing the wild mushroom omelette and the smoked salmon hash, but ultimately chose the smoked salmon hash. It was a generous portion that I couldn't quite finish. It came with a scone with jam. I would say that the scone was good, but I probably wouldn't have chosen it. I did very much enjoy my smoked salmon hash and would absolutely eat it again. All in all, it is a lovely venue with good food, in a beautiful, but busy location. Great service even on Mother's Day. Had a wonderful breakfast, their french toast is amazing. A whole order would feed 3 people so a half it was. Served with maple syrup and butter. The omelet was good too. Filled with cheese and veggies. I like that it comes with a scone too and I think homemade jam. Taste like homemade ketchup too. Love the La Jolla one and now it's awesome t have here in Del Mar. read more

This was a great dining experience. I got the eggs benedict, and my friend got the All-American breakfast. I would definitely go back!

We were in the area and decided to check it out. They had a wait, but was able to get a table b4 given estimate. The staff were kind and helpful with ordering suggestions. I had the chilaquiles, and was extremely disappointed by them. I've never had chilaquiles that had zero flavor or spice before! I asked for hot sauce thinking it could help... but they make it "homemade" which also lacked flavor and kick as well. My friend order looked really good and their scone was pretty tasty. We did find it really odd that they allowed someone with 2 German Shepards sit in the little patio area, which then blocked people/staff from being able to walk by. I get in California " everyone" loves to bring their pets but if you have 2 huge dogs that take up a lot of space....maybe sometimes it's ok to leave them at home. Overall, I may come back again, but definitely will avoid the chilaquiles. read more

Found this place for lunch on Yelp/ good ratings and close to where we were. Trendy, chic, clean with great selections. We each got something different and they were all eye appealing as well as tummy satisfying. After our meal we walked a few steps more and came across a dessert shop. Beware the parking structure is a bit confusing if you walk down the stairs but later decide to catch an elevator up. Hubs walked up the way we came down. Doc and I walked towards the middle of the ground level for an elevator. We pressed the button for the floor we parked at. Checked a few floors. Nope. Doc told me to wait. Hubs texted where are you folks. No cell reception , I didn't receive his text. I texted him we are lost but it couldn't send- no WiFi.., twilight zone! I needed a lúa pronto. Oh my!!!
