    Joe's Special
    Luis M.

Came here for a co-worker's birthday celebration and overall this place wasn't bad. It's a pretty cute looking place inside and looks to be a more upscale diner/cafe style ambiance. Service was alright, nothing to complain about. I didn't try any of their food so I won't comment on that, though I did get a bite of blueberry millet muffin, and that was enjoyable, other than that, it seems that everyone more or less enjoyed their meal. As for me, I got the Joe's Special. It was a pretty standard plate of food: 3 eggs scrambled with some sausage and veggies, some breakfast potatoes, and a scone with some jam on the side. Overall not a bad breakfast spot, 3/5 star experience.

I came here on a Saturday around 10:30am as a party of 2 and we got lucky to be seated right away on the patio. The noise level was loud due to the traffic zooming by just feet away along with the chatting patrons inside the restaurant. I got the watermelon juice, strawberry Danish and joes special with organic eggs. Service was prompt and continuous. Everything was tasty and great quality, from the Danish to the watermelon juice. The hot sauce they have gave my dish (joes special) a nice spice! I would return for a filling brunch.

Great brunch place near the ocean. Ordered the Crab & Prosciutto Benedict, the Machaca Beef "Birria", and a spicy Bloody Mary. Food was just okay, honestly couldn't taste the crab in the Benedict. Hubby says the same of his birtua - just okay. The Bloody Mary was simple, but good & spicy! We were with friends and their kids had strawberry waffles & pancakes which looked really good. They also had the Joe's special snd Eggs Benedict but didn't take pics of their food. Service was quick and they were busy on a Sunday morning as expected. But the location is perfect, Del Mar is beautiful and streets are great for walking.

I've been to the cottage La Jolla location many times but this was my first time at the Del Mar! And it did not disappoint.. and the wait wasn't as long as La Jolla location. Dog friendly and will bring my cavapoo next time~ We ordered mor k g glory sandwich ($22) eggs La Jolla ($21) and 2 piece stuffed French toast ($14.75). I'd say the ftench toast was meh. But the other two tasted great especially the morning glory! Yummmm Service was great too: our waitress was honest about the portion size and the two dishes were probably enough for the 3 of us females. We still wanted order one more and she recommended 1/2 size French toast. It's also located at a nice area where you can walk around. We parked the garage attached to the restaurant. We left within 1 hour and didn't have to pay but not sure what the parking fee is there. I will definitely come back to this place in the near future!!

We've been fans of The Cottage in La Jolla for over a decade. This is the first time we had breakfast at The Cottage location in Del Mar, and it didn't live up to our expectations. FOOD (3/5) For our breakfast, we ordered the Antojito Benedict (3/5) -- Home made sopes with chili braised beef, black beans, poached eggs, shredded lettuce, sour cream, queso fresco, jalapeño crema and pico de gallo. The soles were overcooked -- possibly microwaved. The poached eggs were also overdone. ($21.00) Accompanying Black Beans (4/5) were terrific, and the Buttermilk Scone (4/5) we also ordered was great. ($5.50) SERVICE (3/5) -- The restaurant was less than half filled, but service was slow. We had to flag down a server for water and coffee refills. The manager was quite nice, however, hearing us out about the sopes, and giving us 50% discount on the dish. AMBIANCE (3/5) -- There's both indoor and outdoor seating. Inside, the room is small with hard services ... and noisy. We opted for one of the outdoor tables, which are actually in a fenced off area on Camino Del Mar sidewalk. Nice but you're maybe 25' from CDM traffic. Overall, we'll order better next time based on what we like on the menu in La Jolla.

Boy, do I love a good breakfast / brunch, so when I saw that The Cottage was opening a location closer to home - I was dialed in! With three locations around the San Diego area - Del Mar, La Jolla & Encinitas - You're sure to find not only one close to you, but your favorite location as well. This review is strictly based on my new favorite location - Del Mar. This location is situated in the Del Mar Plaza {be sure to poke around the bookstore, market and shops while you are here} - There is an attached parking garage {60 minutes free with an hourly charge occurring afterwards}, as well as plenty of street parking in and around Del Mar. The restaurant itself isn't huge and will most likely be busy when you arrive, but even if there is a wait, it won't be long & it will be more than worth the wait. Even with a bustling atmosphere, we were greeting as soon as we walked in by several team members and were able to scoop up a seat on the outside patio. The outdoor section provides the perfect backdrop to a wonderful breakfast / brunch, especially on a beautiful, sunny day in San Diego. We had such a pleasant experience with the team - Friendly, gave us the best recommendations and genuinely seemed so happy to be there & assist with the guests - Great customer service always helps to elevate the experience and we received this 10 fold. As for the menu, there is something here for everyone {both Breakfast & Lunch} - Fresh Bakery items, Pancake options galore, Eggs, Classic Breakfasts, Benedicts, Omelettes, Salads, Bowls, and Sandwiches. Drinks also come in a wide variety - Coffee, Kombucha, Cocktails, Mocktails, Juices, Beer, Wine & Bubbles. On our visit, we opted for Breakfast - The All American Breakfast for the Hubs {2 Over-Medium Eggs, Bacon, Cottage Potatoes, and Buttermilk Pancake {this was a sub for a House-Made Scone} & a Roasted Vegetable Scramble for me {Perfectly cooked Eggs with Asparagus, Mushrooms, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Cheddar & Brie - Served with Cottage Potatoes and a Side of Toast with Scrumptious Whipped Butter and the most Delicious Jam - I still think about this Butter & Jam combo}. The Cottage also has a killer homemade Hot Sauce - Put this on everything! Tip - You can make any Omelette into a Scramble or Frittata. I Can't wait to go back and explore each and every breakfast option! Allergy side note - Check out the website for an in-depth look at the menu allergen information, if needed. As someone with food allergies, this is the best site I've seen to dive into which menu items are safe to consume - Thank you Cottage!

The Cottage has been a long time favorite breakfast restaurant of mine for many years. Their original restaurant is located in La Jolla, but today I tried their Del Mar, CA location. I think I like this location even better as it's slightly bigger and only a block from the beach. I went for brunch on a Sunday around 1:00pm and it wasn't crowded. The service was great, the food was delicious and the vibe was spot on. Very relaxing atmosphere. FYI... - it can get super crowded on weekends before noon - prices for breakfast might appear a little high but it's reasonable for the area - parking structure fills up fast so recommend street parking in the neighborhood

    Breakfast Burrito

This morning I had an amazing breakfast burrito that was packed with flavor not to mention the fresh ingredients and warm tortilla really set this breakfast burrito apart from the rest. I customized it with beef birria, homemade guacamole, and breakfast potatoes. It was perfectly crunchy on the outside with all the ingredients meshing perfectly on the inside. This isn't something that's on the menu normally, so you'll have to ask for it. The secrets out, The Cottage in Del Mar makes the best burritos in the area! They also carry bottled Mexican Coca-Cola, which was exactly what I needed for a Sunday morning recovery (thanks Anthony Bourdain). The girlfriend is obsessed with their Clydesdale--a coffee they roast at their other location. It's espresso brewed over cinnamon and brown sugar, and honestly, it's life-changing if you've never tried it. I also had a simple side salad with homemade lemon vinaigrette, pickled carrots, tomatoes, and cucumber. It was fresh, light, and the perfect compliment to the meal. The service and the staff are always a big part of why we keep coming back. Désirée is bubbly, fun, and welcoming every time we visit, and Trevor, the manager, is always kind, attentive, and runs a great restaurant.

I really enjoyed the La Jolla location so decided to give this location a try! We came around noon on a Saturday and we were seated right away. It was pretty busy and a short line formed after we got in. We ordered 3 dishes to share among the 4 of us: -Braised beef hash (5/5): I love the combination of flavors from the tender braised beef, eggs, potatoes, avocado and veggies. Delicious and my favorite! There was not much beef though so I wish there was more -Southern California scramble (5/5): solid scramble with bacon, guacamole and potatoes. Tasty, light and fluffy! -Brioche French toast (4/5): good and moist but typical French toast, big portion. We forgot to ask for fruit toppings but I think it should be already included The hash and scramble each came with a big scone with crystalized sugar top, and the strawberry jam that came with it was delicious! Overall, everything was good and we were all full. Service was friendly and food came out quickly. There's mostly outdoor seating since the interior is pretty small but the view was nice and the heater was turned on. Parking in the structure is free for the first hour but $3 every 30 mins after which was pricey. I would be back!

Love the La Jolla location so came here while in the area! We were luckily seated right away when we arrived around noon on a Saturday and noticed a short line after. Food came out quickly. The 4 of us shared 3 dishes: Braised beef hash (5/5): my favorite, I love the flavors and variety of eggs, potatoes and veggies but wish there was more beef Southern California scramble (4.5/5): egg scramble is good and fresh, scone is a bit dry Brioche French toast (4/5): typical French toast, big portion but we forgot to add extra toppings The interior is pretty small so it was mainly outdoor seating, but the view is nice and they turned on the heaters which was nice. Service was fast and friendly. Parking is free for 1 hour in the attached structure, $3 every 30 mins after which is pretty pricey. I would come back!

I grew up in La Jolla and always remembered my mother and her friends going to The Cottage for brunch and many times I went with her. It was great back then and it is still good now. I have been to many different restaurants in this location here in Del Mar and I would say this is one of my favorite ones that has been here. The Cottage is a solid breakfast or brunch option and it is usually pretty consistent and quick. Parking is plentiful in the parking garage attached, the first two hours are free. We were able to be seated for a party of three right when we arrived and our server was very polite. Inside is quite small, there aren't any very large tables however, it has a very cozy and homely feel to it. Service is also very fast so the tables will turn quickly. They have indoor seating and also outdoor seating which can be really nice depending on the weather. For my breakfast I chose the Chilaquiles and added chorizo. Unfortunately, it was soy chorizo, I wish they would have the real thing, but it was still really good. I also got a Cinnamon Roll and thought it was just OK. It was not gooey enough for my personal taste, but some may like it. Overall, I really enjoyed the breakfast and will stop in again in the near future.

    Shrimp & Crab - Salad
    Nancy T.

Quaint and cute restaurant in Delmar on the corner between plaza and 15th. The wait time was less than 20 mins. Quick service and the food was soooo good! There's light drink menus. Wine/draft/mimosas along with a crafted coffee menu. I ordered and enjoyed the Clydesdale Shaken Espresso. I usually prefer my coffee sweet, but I didn't have to sweeten it at all and drank it perfectly as is. For food, I ordered the shrimp and crab salad (add goat cheese) it was so light and delicious! The swagyu burger, Mac and cheese, and even the kids menu were great portions. If you're a fries person, the fries here are extra fluffy and crispy. Definitely will come back. (Parking is available in their paid lot. It was $3.60 for 1.5 hours)

That said, I've noticed a few things lately that have made it a little harder to shop here, especially as the store seems to be getting busier and busier. The biggest challenge has honestly been the crowds. It feels like the popularity of the market has really grown, which is great to see, but it can make the experience a little overwhelming. I also think it may be worth considering a larger location at some point. Parking can be incredibly difficult, especially if you have a larger vehicle, and getting in and out can sometimes be a challenge. I also recently had an unfortunate experience with a few items I purchased. The girl who helped me at the register was very kind and bagged the majority of my items, but a couple of smaller items were left outside of the bag. I was in a rush and completely forgot to grab them before I left, even though I had already paid for everything. I realized it later and called the store to explain what happened. They were kind enough to put my name on a bag and hold the items for me, which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, when I came back later that week to pick them up, the items couldn't be found. It seemed like there was some miscommunication between the staff, which was really disappointing because I had specifically called ahead and was told they would be held for me. I completely understand that things can get misplaced, especially in a busy store, but it was frustrating knowing that I had already paid for the items and had made a trip back specifically to retrieve them. I also didn't have my receipt anymore because I had assumed everything had been placed in my bag, which I realize was ultimately my mistake. It's definitely something I won't let happen again. What was disappointing was that, even though the staff remembered me coming in previously, the items ultimately weren't replaced or resolved. I understand that mistakes happen, but I think this could have been handled a little better. Even with these issues, I still genuinely love Seaside Market and want to see it continue to do well. I know that growing crowds and increased popularity can create challenges, but I do think there are opportunities to improve the overall customer experience, especially when it comes to parking, managing the crowds, and communication between team members. The prices have definitely been climbing, and with the store becoming busier, it's getting a little harder to visit than it used to be. Still, there's a reason I've been coming here for years, and I'll continue to support the market. I just hope they're able to find ways to make the experience a little easier as the business continues to grow.

They also don't display the quiche, instead they hide the quiche in the back so it just kinda feels deceptive. To make matters worse, the quiche itself was somewhat dry. They have a huge wine selection both at the bar and in their fridge section which you can browse while you're in line. They have a wine club as well! I always love a more local mom n pop type place in general vs chains and this place is just a vibe no matter what time of day you go. The word is definitely out though so it can get busy so cozy up at the bar for a cold one while you wait if you run thirsty like me, ha! Or they have plenty of outdoor seating if you want a ni ce breeze. The owner is rad, the entire staff is sweet, accommodating and overall they just absolutely nailed it here. Go see what all the hype is about, you'll leave with a full belly and a smile.
