I think I found a winner! I was getting errands nearby and wanted to stop here for a lunchstop. It felt like an unassuming diner but when I walked in I was greeted with a warm smile and someone immediately started attending to my order. I ordered take-out, and didn't get a chance to sit down, but the place is a really cozy diner and it feels right at home. Some customers stopped by, and they seemed like regulars because the guy at the front desk was asking about them. I ordered one of their sandwiches, fries, and a cream of rice in soup, and ate it back home. The tuna melt and fries were phenomenal. I devoured it, reason why I don't have a photo of it. The fries are thick, and chewy in the right places. The tuna melt was a great meal. The soup was delicious. This is one of those restaurants that has been around forever...unassuming,,Now that I've been there, I'm kicking myself for driving past for so long....Yesterday (6/16/25) we were in Wheaton for dental appointments. My husband said when was the last time you went to Carol's Garden ? The answer to that was "never" So, we were very close and really hungry..It was almost 4:00...so we stopped. There was almost no one there, so we were greeted and seated very quickly. Our server, Dina, was wonderful..the menu is enormous, so many delicious choices. My husband had the Reuben Burger and he loved it ! I had a breakfast skillet that was delicious...Both of us toted home enough that we will have another great meal later today. Carol's Garden Restaurant is a nice spot to have breakfast, where the staff is friendly and the food is tasty. We stopped in early on a Sunday morning and nearly had the place to ourselves. Other customers were sparse, as was the staff - things must pick up later around here. Nonetheless, we were greeted, seated, and served by an inviting staff who wore big smiles. The menu is varied, offering pretty much everything you'd be looking for with breakfast. And, when it arrives, the food is hot and is scrumptious. My eggs were perfectly made! Went here based on google reviews - should have checked Yelp instead! Ordered the eggs benedict, and while the eggs were cooked perfectly as was the bacon/canadian bacon, the hollandaise sauce had zero flavor, making it very bland. The hashbrowns looked like they would be good, but were scorched and somehow undercooked and burned simultaneously. My mother ordered the open-faced turkey meal and said it was terrible and one of the worst things she had ever had at a restaurant. The "gravy" was flavorless, white and so runny it was as if they just poured milk on the toasted bread underneath the small, thin slices of turkey like you would find in a TV dinner. Said the mashed potatoes, which are almost always ok, were also bad. Most of her meal minus the thin turkey she scraped clean of the milky sauce remained uneaten. The coffee was the worst I have ever had at a family restaurant as it was as weak as it was bland, so basically brown-tinted hot water. My son said the pancakes were good, which was a relief, but I tried his scrambled eggs assuming they would be good since mine were decent, but they had the strangest consistency and taste to them, neither of us could eat them. I will say the waffle smelled and looked delicious that was served to other customers, and the bacon was tasty, but overall, the food was disappointing to say the least. There were very few customers at lunchtime, which should have been a sign, but we received slow, nearly nonexistent service as she came to the table only to take our order, bring the coffee she forgot after 5-10 mins, bring our food, then the check. No refills, no checking on us, no asking how the food was or if we needed anything throughout our meal, and we did not even see her around the restaurant between these infrequent interactions. Service was great and restaurant was clean. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Refills were quick. This was our first time here and she was helpful navigating the large menu. I ordered my burger well done and it was cooked just as asked. The best part was that it wasn't dried out and was still flavorful. The lettuce and tomato were very fresh - lettuce was crisp and tomato was good. The French fries were hot and fresh. The chicken dumpling soup was also good. Despite the place being DEAD this is very poor customer service. We will never come here again. There were only four tables with customers at 6:30 at night. They even seated a table of 9 shortly after, right behind us. We ordered our food after waiting 15 mins for a waitress to finally come over. We were waiting & waiting for our food when the waitress started bringing food out for the table of 9. They were seated after us AND placed their order after us. The menu here is huge, which naturally made me nervous, so I didn't have high hopes from the start. I just moved to town and decided, what the hey! I'll give it a try and maybe be pleasantly surprised! I wasn't. Sadly, as expected the food was...well...just OK. I ordered the liver and onions for myself- the meat was not very good quality. My husband got chicken parm and the pasta was over cooked with some veggies on the side that had no seasoning at all-quite bland. We will not be dining here again unfortunately. I do think that the cooks are just doing way too many different types of food and the quality is going down because of that. Maybe shrink the menu just a tad? The owners of this establishment leave something to be desired. They are just not customer focused or friendly. Maybe they have been too successful for too long I don't know. I just try to avoid them when I am there. Our food is always good. That and they are located close to home brings us back there from time to time. The food is very home style. We've driven past this restaurant many, many times but frankly, from the outside appearance there was nothing to draw us in. Yesterday we decided to give it a try for a late Saturday afternoon (1:30pm) lunch. We loved it! The interior is very, very nice. Comfy booths, nice chairs on wheels. They have a selection of 5 soups everyday. Lunch started out with a small loaf of warm bread. It was fabulous. My husband had the chicken stir fry. It was a very large plate and there was enough there that he brought half home. I had the chicken breast with cheddar and monterey jack cheese. I loved it, also. Service was impeccable. Drinks were refilled throughout the meal and she checked on us often to be sure everything was ok. I asked that the soup that comes with my meal be packed to go. She included 3 rolls and crackers with the soup. Nice touch. I was happy to leave a generous tip. The menu is extensive so there should be something for everyone. I used to work right down the street from Carol's Garden and would meet friends for lunch here quite often. Sometimes it was hard to get in and out within an hour for lunch. They are willing to do separate checks if you go with a group, which we really appreciated. My favorite part of Carol's Garden is their chicken noodle soup that they have almost every day- very simple but delicious. They used to offer a bread basket at lunch time but now offer a warm loaf of bread with is tasty but you have to slice it yourself. Carol's Garden is a typical family restaurant but is very comfortable with a pleasant atmosphere. It is very popular at lunchtime. They have a very large menu with many choices. We normally love this place. Today. Is making me not want to come back. Today, there is an older man (60s easily) sitting in the dining room with an IPad set up and it's blaring like he is a 5 year old watching Baby Shark videos. It is completely disrupting our meal and this isn't the first time we've encountered him here but normally there is other noise to lessen the audible attack. Not happy with that currently, however, the service is wonderful (Rene) and the food phenomenal as always. Just having no one ask the man to lower his volume is a bit off putting. And I'm not just being a jerk or overly fussy. I can assure you it literally sounds like he is watching videos of aircraft taking off with someone recording on the flight line with a high pitched shriek noise repeatedly playing over and over. Carol garden count your days . Local diner sucks, and our plate of food came out disgusting they don't know how to wash dishes. The food tasted like foot water, and dishwater mixed couldn't finish my plate of food because the taste of dirty dishwater ruined it . On top of that our server checked on us probably twice . We waited 20 minutes for a sprite just for it to come out as dirty sprite with floating particles. Worst experience of my whole entire life don't go here . Carol's Garden is one of the few family restaurants left in the Carol Stream area that is not a corporate chain. The ambience of it is that of an old fashioned, traditional family restaurant. Their homemade soups are wonderful. They have an extensive menu of delicious meals. Food is served warm and in a timely manner. My family has made this the go to place to go and relax and enjoy a good homecooked meal. The owner/manager is on the premises should there be something that did not satisfy your dining needs and it is promptly corrected. You get generous portions that are fairly priced. Visited this restaurant twice and still have not had the opportunity to eat there. First time was told they close at 8 even though online and sign on door say they are open later. Second time after being seated and waiting over 10 mins left due to no service or acknowledgement that I was waiting for service. When leaving the waitress asked if I was ready to order, I replied that I was leaving due to she must be overly busy to take new orders. This is one restaurant that seems to be forgotten in the listings of restaurants in the Wheaton/Carol Stream area. We have gone to this place for years and are never disappointed. I talked my husband into ordering today and it was so worth it. She said that our order would be ready in about 15 minutes. I am only about 5 minutes away so left 10 minutes later. The order was ready and correct. We have enough food for another meal. The chicken rice soup is always the best as well as my spinach salad and mom's summer-fest salad.
