Never in my life have I been compelled to write a review before this one... I would like to preface by saying that I consider myself an incredibly polite, easy going, and patient person, not being affected by poor service or experiences often. I wish I had nicer things to say, but the staff here make the whole ambiance and dining experience uncomfortable and awkward. The manager here is an exceptionally corpulent dolt that makes you feel like he is irritated by the fact you are dining in the restaurant and asking him to do his job. Constantly grouchy and antisocial, thinking the occasional "yes ma'am/sir" will make up for it. On more than one occasion I have heard him talking poorly about the patrons in Spanish, thinking nobody around him beside his barely functional staff could understand. My wife and I felt very unwelcomed in the establishment together. I actually called once and informed him that I understood the insults he muttered under his breath at me as he placed my plate down (after I kindly asked them to fix and order they served incorrectly). You think he would have learned his lesson after the first time, right? Apparently not. I was willing to offer grace as everyone has off days but it seems that he has more "off" days than "on" days. Noe, one of the servers, is not any better. Complaining to him in Spanish after I simply asked for a copy of my receipt. Very classic "mean girl" unprofessional energy. The food is mediocre at best. They also no longer have public restrooms available, for whatever reason. Save yourself the disappoint and poor treatment and spend your hard earned money elsewhere. The only redeeming quality of this place was a wonderful waitress named Joanna, but I have not seen her in quite a while. Hopefully she is on to bigger and better. read more

We popped in for breakfast, as I'm always on the lookout for a new breakfast spot, and had an enjoyable meal. The staff welcomed us warmly and the menu offered a little bit of everything. I went with the basics: eggs, bacon, and toast. My feeling is that if you cannot get the basics right then there's no point! Let me tell you, they get it right here. Jan 29. Stopped in on way home from CDH for breakfast, not very crowded at 11:30 am. Had booth by window. Very clean with clean condiments Pet complaint for me. Coffee was served immediately, hot, fresh and excellent. I had their biscuits and gravy, it comes with two eggs and hash browns. Gravy had lots of sausage pieces and was hot and creamy. Eggs were over easy with no lacy edges. Coffee refilled as needed, with no spills. My wife had a Yogurt dish, served in large bowl with nuts and various berries piled high. The place is very clean as are restrooms. Pictures of hummingbirds on walls and other birds too. This is not a tablecloth restaurant, but a well run family owned place for people of all ages. They have a bar, with a decent selection of regular drinks. Plenty of parking and open until 8 pm. Limited but very tasty selection for dinner, No reservations needed, but does get very at dinner. Prices are very reasonable and quantity and quality is excellent. Great place to meet friends and not be rushed. read more

My husband and I just moved to Winfield last month and was on the hunt for a cute local diner. When I found this place on Yelp, it looked like it checked all the boxes! The restaurant itself is very cute and really liked the colors! We went for brunch and I ordered the Florentine eggs Benedict and my husband ordered the nachos. YUM! The food came out fast and our waiter was very nice. So far, this is the best eggs Benedict I've had since moving back to the suburbs 3 years ago after living in the city. The hollandaise sauce was perfect, my eggs were perfectly poached, the bacon was a delicious touch, and the side of fruit was fresh and sweet. Such a great way to start a Sunday morning. My husbands nachos were also delicious. The pork was very moist and tender and full of flavor. He actually said it's nice that finally he got an order of nachos that came with enough cheese in them. The Humingbird is a very nice family style diner restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. They could have the fluffy and tastiest pancakes in the area. I ordered a Cuban sandwich but what was served to me WAS NOT a Cuban sandwich! It was a Roasted Pork sandwich with Ham Off The Bone, pickle on the side not in the sandwich, no Swiss cheese, no mustard and not finished in a sandwich press! The sandwich lacked flavor. Went here for breakfast because my husband and I were both craving eggs Benedict. The outside of the restaurant is not very attractive, and initially my husband didn't want to go inside. But inside was clean and cozy and updated. We both ordered the same dish. It was decent could've used a little more seasoning, but overall a pretty good Benedict. read more

Today my wife ordered (for the millionth time) the Cinnamon Apple Crepes. Yes, they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day! She loves there crepes. She is an expert on them so that means something. She claims each time thought that are a little different. Interesting? But each time also great! For me, I rarely order the same menu item twice at any restaurant. I like variety so I want to experience every item on the menu. And here I believe I have. Today was the Chicken Scalloppini. It was delicious. Angel hair pasta, lemon butter, mushrooms, artichokes, asparagus and tomato's with chicken. The chicken was tender but bland. However as a complete entire it was delicious! Average diner food in a nicer setting. But overall reasonably priced, so YMMV! Hummingbird Restaurant serves breakfast all day. If you know me, you know that's music to my ears, since an average dinner entree can't really compete with either pancakes or an omelette in my eyes. So it was just me and the kids, and I went with the Hummingbird Breakfast with sausage and hash browns. By far the best item on the table was the pancakes, whose batter was very flavorful (perhaps to the point of being yeasted, which would indeed be an odd thing for pancakes... or maybe not so much for pancakes at 6:30 PM) and was topped by a generous helping of butter. They were tall and more hearty than fluffy, but I very much enjoyed these. The hash browns... oof. They're supposed to be at least a little bit crunchy, but instead it was cooked potatoes with a hint of brownness on both sides. Sorry guys, that doesn't count. Eggs over-easy were all right but bland. The sausage was sausage. Kind of greasy, if anything, which sort of leads into the fries my kids had being kind of greasy too. The overall quality of the food reminded me of an ever-so-slightly better Denny's, which is not what I was hoping for. On the bright side, dinner for 3 came to $24 plus tips. That's a pretty good deal for sit-down dinner for 3 these days, I don't think I could swing that at Chick-FIl-A. Unfortunately, the service was less than stellar. They let me know they got my daughter's order wrong (serving up penne instead of spaghetti... how?) and initially looked after us, but they were AWOL after that and I had to go to the front desk to ask for my check. Great local spot! The inside of this spot is bright and welcoming. Hubby and I met some friends for breakfast and had some delicious food. I had the popeye omlette. It was big and fluffy. I subbed some fruit for the has browns. The bowl wasn't big, but all the fruit was fresh. I ordered coffee and they gave me a pot. Score! Hubby had the hummingbird breakfast. Date of visit: 8/17/19 Stopped in to see what the new new restaurant was like. Was in here once before when it was Oakfields but we did not frequent the former place at all and sadly I doubt we will be frequenting this one either. The personnel seemed very nice and hospitable. The menu was very uninspiring. My nacho skillet (looked good) was bland (eggs overcooked) and was served with a warm salsa (on the side) which was good but I was not accustomed to this. The salsa tasted oddly familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it. When I asked about it I was told it was a typical salsa but I have never seen one quite like this. I didn't push. Coffee was average. Anyway my wife's order of french toast was average at best. Tasted like heavy store bought cinnamon loaf bread barely dipped in batter. The hash browns which she asked for crispy were basically just over fried flattened portions of gummy potatoes. I wish them well but sadly nothing on the menu intrigues me enough to return. read more

This place was just okay. It fell short of expectations after reading reviews. The ambiance is cozy diner style. Restaurant is clean. Service was nice and friendly, presentation was excellent. So what went wrong you ask? Taste. The food was just not tasty. I ordered a hot chocolate which looked amazing but tasted watered down. I ordered a Quebec poutine as an app which was, eh. But in all fairness I'm from Quebec so perhaps it just takes more to impress me when it comes to poutine. For my main course I had the Texas chop which was very bland. It was mostly lettuce and not even the chipotle ranch dressing was able to save it. (Which i usually love) If i'm in the neighborhood I may give it another chance but I probably won't go out of my way to eat here again. read more
