Our wood floors were last refinished 18 years ago, when we first moved into our 1958 house. While…read moremany areas had only minor wear, the area under the dining table had suffered a lot of damage, with bare wood exposed in several places. We were looking for someone to do a general buff and finish on all the hardwood, but also with a specific focus on fixing the dining area. Of the five businesses I contacted, four said they would not do a partial sand/stain, but would only redo all of the flooring, sanding and restaining everything, which would have been far more than we were planning on spending for this project. Wilmer of Better Surfaces and Services was the only one willing to work with us on what we wanted. He was very upfront about the potential issue with a visual difference between the restained dining area and the existing stained flooring, but also discussed how he would do his best to mix the new stain so that it matched as close as possible, and work on the transition area to minimize any difference. I hope the pictures show what an amazing job Wilmer and his team did. The pictures were taken at different times of day, but they are all of the dining area, which needed the most work. In fact, one of my relatives was thoroughly confused upon seeing the final result: she knew we had planned on just refinishing, but upon seeing the floor, thought they must have instead replaced the dining area with all new hardwood! In addition to the great work, Wilmer was very good about addressing all of our concerns and keeping us up to date on the work, as we had to be out of town during all of it. His employees were very conscientious about locking up our house when they were done each day (my friend let them in every morning). First, I was greeted by a very friendly associate. I apologise if I get his name wrong but I will call him George. I was impressed by the spacious showroom and samples. I perused some of the hardwood and carpet samples and he was very proactive and helpful in answering my questions. If he didn't know something he got on the phone and found out the answer. I noticed right away that the per yard prices for the Shaw carpet I was looking for were reasonable and less then my previous two quotes. George said I could take home samples and he helped me to my car with them. He gave me the owner's cell phone number and Joe came by my house later that day to measure my house and pick up the samples. Joe gave me a written quote a couple days later and it was less than I had previously gotten from other places. I had picked out a white Carpet and Joe asked if I really wanted a white carpet? It got me thinking that maybe I didn't because I have black cats that shed and the white carpet would've been a big mistake. I'm glad that Joe had shared with me his opinion from his experience. I went back to the showroom and decided on a more expensive Kane carpet which had a pattern. I researched the prices online and asked Joe if he would meet another company's price. He agreed to reduce the price per yard which included materials, installation, padding and tax. He sent me a revised written quote with an additional charge for a waterproof padding that I requested and a charge to remove some tile. Both additional quotes were reasonable. It took a couple weeks for the carpet to come in, but once it did George called me to set up the Installation. The first day the installers arrived right on time and there were 4 to 6 people there that day to remove the old carpet on the stairs and on the second and third floors. The owner also was there as well. The job took four days. I was very impressed with the high quality work. The installers were friendly, polite, and worked diligently, moved heavy furniture, (e.g. I have a Sleep Number bed and I was worried about the disconnect and reconnect but it was done properly. They were also very careful with my large screen TVs). The installers cleaned up prior to leaving each day. One day they were 10 minutes late. I called George and he was on the phone with the installers right away to give me an ETA. They arrived 10 minutes later. The owner stopped by the job every day to make sure it was progressing correctly. Because it was a patterned carpet there had to be expert matching. I told Joe the carpet in my closet was loose and he had them fix it. I questioned one of the seams that appeared to have some space on the floating stairs and when they came the next day they re-did that stair. All in all I highly recommend Truewest Carpet, they are ethical, have reasonable and fair prices, excellent customer service and attention to detail from the owner, the showroom associate and the installers as well as the delivery people. If I could give 6+ stars I would!
