This is my new favorite BBQ joint in Blue Ridge. Joe's was #1 until he retired. Locals and visitors love it because it is great food with quick service. Ribs are very good but the pulled pork is great and the smoked chicken has a little kick which makes it unique. Brunswick stew is with the upgrade as a side dish. Restaurant is clean and good seating options for a small crew. If you like BBQ you will love this place. read more

First experience with this restaurant and very disappointed. We had brisket and ribs, both tasted like it was cooked with or close to some type of accelerant. Definitely the best bbq in BR! I work right across the street from Blue Smoke and although they are great, Carroll's is better! The ribs are phenomenal but it sucks they aren't open a lot of the days of the week. I've only ever gotten to-go orders and never actually been as another employee has picked it up. I normally do not review places, but this one was worth it for sure. So I pass this place every day going to work. I've been meaning to stop in and decided that today would finally be the day. I pull up and park, walk to the door, then notice that it closes at 8:00. It's 7:58. I look inside and the hostess waves me on in. I apologized or coming right at closing and asked if I could place a to-go order. They kindly take my order and go ABOVE AND BEYOND to serve me right at closing time. When I get home, my meal is perfect. It is nice and hot, like it was freshly made. I went with the 3 meat combo (pulled pork, ribs, and brisket) with fries, macaroni and cheese, and baked beans. I also brought each sauce home to try. This was the best barbecue I believe I have ever had. The ribs were meaty and falling off the bone. The brisket was juicy and easily pulled apart. Not only did I have a full stomach when I finished, but I had enough to have a meal for the next day. All for less than $20. I have officially decided to adopt Carroll's Barbecue as my new "go to" on the days that it is open. Nicely done! read more

Not bad by comparison to the others, but it seems that no one remembers how to make 'que and stew properly any more. The last real BBQ place I visited had a loaf of Wonder Bread still in the wrapper on each table (a sign of good BBQ). They brought you the meat and sauce, you did the rest. The food was GREAT! However, as someone who was a server for over 10 years, I can tell you that the servers and lack of training are going to run this place into the ground if something doesn't change. I have no doubt this is partly due to Covid and quick turnover of servers because no one wants to work right now. I originally wrote a longer review with more info about the bad service, but decided to change my review after the manager replied graciously. :) The food really was fantastic. I had a brisket baked potato and collard greens. They were both very good. My husband had a pork plate with collard greens and okra and it was all very good too. We shared an apple cobbler with ice cream and it was fantastic! Definitely give this place a try and give some grace with the new servers because the food is worth it. read more

As a Southerner, I'm a bit particular about my BBQ. Not only were my ribs fall-of-the-bone spectacular, but all of our sides were above and beyond amazing. We had collard greens, bbq beans, sweet potato fries, coleslaw, smoked sausage, wings, brisket, pork, and ribs. (3 combos and a pork plate, we are a sharing family.) We also split both dessert skillet options. Trevor C, our amazing waiter, checked to make sure there were no nuts since there was an allergy in our party. More on him in a minute. We've stopped by a few times and, by far and away, Carroll's is the best barbecue in the area. Their ala carte' pricing on items is a bit different. The folks are polite. All their smoked offerings are done properly. We will definitely visit again. read more

We are here at Carroll's for a second time. We had a great experience the first time. My husband ordered Potato Hill for the second time. He loved it the first time we were here. I got a combination plate this time. Last time I got the ribs with Cole slaw and baked beans. My plate tonight will have ribs, brisket and smoked sausage with the Cole slaw and a baked sweet potato with butter and cinnamon sugar. Stay tuned for the update when the food arrives. Let me start by saying I don't even really like bbq. My husband and family love it. I always find it fatty or just gross. After going to another well known bbq place in town, I figured this would be just the same. Why anyone would go anywhere else just baffles me. This is the best bbq I have ever had.! The smoked turkey is soooo good! My kids & husband inhaled the pork and chicken and let me say the fried pickles and corn fritters were delish! Most of the staff was friendly but some acted like it was our fault it was taking so long and we didn't even ask about our food until the 30 minute mark.
