smallest bar ever!!! i've been here twice and each time, i've had to wait outside to because there were too many people inside! I came here with my cousin the first time and we were able to get inside fairly quick, it was hard to get drinks bc everyone was crowded, talking and seated at the bar. At first, i thought it was bigger, so i went downstairs, but nope, just the bathroom. I think the bar is the size of probably three average bedrooms... But i had a good time and met some nice people. But the 2nd time i went REALLY dropped my rating. It was St. patrick's day and we literally had to wait outside for about an hour to get inside, and the doorman kept letting in one or two people inside before us even though we only had 3 people! Once inside, it took us a fairly long time to get our drinks and i think it was 7 or 8 for a beer or jackncoke, and 12-14 for a AMF. And we just kinda stood and shuffled around the bustling overcrowded bar sipping our drinks. Didnt even have room to even really talk to each other as people kept bumping into us. So we kind of just stood there for another half hour (since we already waited an hour to get in) and then left. the one good thing is that it is close to where i live. read more

Life isn't a cabernet. It's a dive bar. Carry nations is the united hub of Los Gatos.. brings all ages to one spot. Warm and inviting, friendly people, friendly bartenders. I love the ambiance from the old leaded glass windows, to the working old fashion cash register. The drinks are strong, the staff is awesome. The people are real and genuine. If you want to know where your bartenders hangout on their days off this is it. Mike who helped us all night was awesome, great recommendation on my hard cider, friendly.. I have been to Carry Nations both on nights when it is packed, and when it is not so packed. My friends and I decided to drop by after watching Cal football down the street at Double D's. It was pretty early, around 6pm when we got there, so there were not too many people inside. One thing I have always liked about CN is that the bartenders are usually pretty laid back, and will shoot the shit with anyone sitting at the bar, but are always attentive to see who needs a drink. We always get a kick out of the plaques on one of the back walls that shows different people who have bought rounds for the house, and figure that we probably should do that one of these days. Downtown Los Gatos definitely has a lot of interesting bars, and they all seem to have their own vibe and character to them. Carry Nations tends to be the more laid-back kind of bar that you go to just to unwind and decompress. read more

One thing I absolutely hate is a dishonest business. Came here for Halloween and I had a great time. Atmosphere and company were fun. This would have become a regular stop in LG if I wasn't overcharged on my drink order. I didn't notice it until I was paying my credit card bill, but I was charged $6 extra on top of my tip for a $20 drink order. I can understand honest mistakes happen sometimes, but this was clearly not the case. The bartending staff charging extra is never acceptable and thus the 1 star. Kind of a frat boy/meat market vibe. The servers were OK, but I don''t like that you can't run a tab. It was freaking crowded when we left around 12:30AM, and there had been a fight, a joint smoked in the bathroom, and a visit from the LG police. read more

I like this bar. I work down the street and come here some nights after I get off. The bartenders are always nice and the people the go to this bar usually are an older, less rowdy crowd. I like that. Too many young A holes my age running around! But not here. (: I like that they are open until 2. especially since they are in downtown LG. read more

Not bad for Los Gatos. I went on a weeknight, when the PROFESSIONAL alcoholics go out. None of this weekend bullshit for me. One of the staff members was really nice. He checked all our ID's (assuming half your party is underage is standard in the LG) and was very pleasant. I enjoyed my Stella in peace and he came around frequently to collect our empty glasses, crack a few jokes, and make us smile. Not a bad guy. But I honestly couldn't picture myself coming here very often, even though I do have a bit of an older dude thing. I just don't like these older dudes. read more

Oh my God!!! Look at all the yuppies - I think I went to High School with some of them... aaaah. But then again, they are eye candy.... hey, is that 40 year old guy hitting on that 21 year old girl? I love this place! It's a great spot to check in and say hello to locals. Love Candace and Mike the bartenders, although Mike isn't working as often anymore. :-( Candace may not remember your name, but she always remember what you drink. The group is a mixed age group and this is a great bar to hang out with friends. I'll share a little secret with you. The have delicious happy hour food on fridays! Shrimp, tortilla chips, salsa, guacamole and little chicken drumettes. The food comes from next door at Andale's and it is yummy! Seems like no one knows about the food on Fridays! This place has plenty of room at the bar, lot's of low tables in front and higher tables in the back. The back of the bar opens up to the back parking area where smokers go outside and smoke during the evening. I really wish I could love this place. Dark wood paneling, Guinness, sports on the TV, and good location in a nice neighborhood. (LG, obviously its a good spot.) But here, it just gets really dicey with some of the crowd here. Nothing horrible, but definitely not the kind of guys I want to belly up to the bar with. Another Friday night adventure story. So a bunch of guys (who are slowly growing to be my Friday Night Adventure group) and I decided to meet up for our weekly Friday Night Adventure at this place. My friend suggested it and I just went along. I'm not exactly sure how he discovered it, but whatever. It's located in a corner and is a bit hard to find, but don't let that fool you. While there was no cover (+ 1 star), the inside was jam packed full of middle aged peoples. The second I stepped foot into the place, I knew something was off. At first I couldn't put my finger on it. Was it that I showed up alone and couldn't find my friends right away? Naw. Was it the fact that it was freakin' tiny as hell? Hm.. no. Was it that there were parent aged people dressed in semi slutty clothes on a freezing cold night in a crowded bar?! YES. I have nothing against old(er) people drinking and having fun, but it's just not my kinda crowd. So needless to say, after about 10 minutes, the Friday Night Adventure group left Carry Nations. read more

Decent place to grab a drink in Downtown Los Gatos, but the parking can suck sometimes. I tend to like going in the afternoon since the douchebags are not out yet. At night it gets to be more pretentious. But I like any bar that has Guinness on tap. Also, on Fridays after 4 or 5pm, they have free food. And it is the good stuff, too! My dad has been a regular here for years, and now I understand why. I've visited a handful of times, and I find each and every bartender there to be personable and the crowd to be equally so. Opposed to Mtn. Charlies and like kickin it with "older" people try here. It's always crowded here. The narrow room does not lend itself to good feng shui at all. Try the back entrance. Though, I did manage to get three drinks for 2 of my friends and myself on Friday for only $9. SCORE. read more

Ahh, the irony of drinking at a bar who's theme is a homage to a member (scary old lady) of the Temperance Movement (during prohibition) who would irately enter drinking establishments and attack the bar with a tomahawk! Carrie Nation's resembles a dark UK pub with granite top tables and bars and heavy duty mahogany bar stools. It's much nicer than the sad little Black Watch a few doors down. The bartenders will gladly stiffen your drink upon request, great beers, ales, and stouts on tap, and PLEASE be careful heading down the stairs to the bathroom if you've had one to many. Prices are of average fare. The crowd ranges from regular old curmudgeons to bushy-tailed newbies. Carrie Nation is my new favorite watering hole in DTLG. read more

Just left this bar and was completely disrespected by bartender. We walked into the bar and the first half of bar was empty besides one patron sitting near door, so we thought like most would that we would be served shortly. However the woman bartender proceeded to take shots with others at other end of the bar and proceeded to serve others that walked up to that side. At this point I'm trying my best to be patient all while watching other being served that just walked in and waited at that end. So at this point I'm trying to keep my composure and started playing with the stack of napkins in front of me and by this time the drunk bartender calls me out very rudely and asks why my hands are all over them and that they need to be thrown out. And then states she'll still serve us but at this point made a seen, I tell her we don't need to be treated like this and we've waited a long time while she taken her shots and left. We are regulars at Black Watch and are treated with 100% respect even when the bartender is having shots. Whoever this bartender is needs to learn customer service educate and maybe AA cause she was pretty toasty. read more

On April 21, 2018 four of us stopped by about 1PM for cocktails. The bartender was friendly and we all had a few good laughs. There was not a cocktail menu but there is a lot to choose from. I was able to finally try out this bar with a local friend from the area. Came through on a Friday or something early before the rowdy LG crowds overrun the place. The place is alright, a mix of young and older people here and the prices are around where they should be. I suppose their are some other bars in LG that cost more. The place has some TV's that you can watch sports on and a few tables around the bar. The place itself is not huge, so it might be tough to get around when it's crowded. The bartenders are very nice and attentive (this is when they aren't too busy). I thought that this place had a pretty cool name after hearing what it was. I feel like the place makes a great normal bar which is necessary in any similar town. I don't know if I can compare this to black watch? I can probably compare it to Mt. This was our first stop for the Happy Hour, Dinner, Clubbing night - yes, it was a long Friday night. It's a small bar that's a bit dark with wood paneling - think: decent local bar rather than a dive bar. Pretty dead, although admittedly, it was only 5ish. The crowd was older - 30-40's, all grabbing drinks with FREE bar food - chips & guacamole, chicken wings, and bean taquitos (or were they egg rolls?).
