This isn't the kind of place you go to 'just to try it out' like so many other Yelp! suggestions. It's more the type of business that you would use Yelp! *for*, like trying to find a reputable business via word of mouth and first-hand experience. That's not how I ended up here (my insurance thankfully set the whole thing up), but I hope it's why you might consider Crystal CarStar. I was on the receiving end of a raccoon crossing I-29 on a visit to the airport, and while the poor animal took the brunt of the impact, my car's front end bore the scars of said high-speed collision. Just a cosmetic thing, right? No, no. This is where the value of the experts really comes in handy. My man Farres handled the entire inspection from start to finish. What looked to be a bumper replacement turned out to be a number of parts that had been cracked underneath the car. Farres took the time to get underneath the vehicle, on a brutally cold day no less, inspect everything at least twice, and research all of the replacement value. I waited in their comfortable customer area while the estimate was calculated, and before I knew it, I had a date on the calendar to do the repairs and a rental car lined up while my car would be serviced. What's not to like? No real inconvenience, a cup of coffee, and someone else taking care of every detail. Win! During the time that my car was at their shop, I received text message updates giving me status, promised dates of delivery, and even an early finish. I was able to just leave the rental car at Crystal CarStar, get my car, pay my deductible, and drive away. But wait, there's more! As I drove away, I noticed odd messages on my instrument panel. I turned around and went back, mentioned the problem, and immediately Cody, another CarStar ace, took his diagnostic equipment out to my car. Turns out there was a sensor that wasn't quite reconnected after they had removed and replaced the bumper, but Cody and team quickly corrected that and all was well - in like 5 minutes! Total winning experience. Yeah, I don't end up here without a wayward raccoon and handy insurance adjusters, but I had both and they collectively turned that into a great encounter with a first-rate business! I had what I thought was pretty bad front end damage to my Nissan Pathfinder. Clear coat was damaged on my tonneau cover and constant excuses to charge me to fix their damaged. My insurance company had me return to have incomplete work done and their story changed for a third time say it needed to be repainted at my expense. The one owner/employee yelled at me. Contacted my insurance company and they contacted another body shop to fix where they failed and what they damaged. I'm never taking my vehicle back there again. I had to take my car back several times to get things fixed and tweaked. The alignment wouldn't stay aligned or wasn't aligned properly, chips on my car that were missed in the repair, bodywork at closer inspection wasn't aligned as before, sunroof was rattling on and off after picking it up from the shop, etc. Thought they were a great shop because I had a great experience the first time with repairs, but regretted going there when problems started popping up soon afterwards. I ended up having to go to a different shop and by then the damage from the subpar repairs was almost $2000 out of pocket. Shoutout to the balding guy in the back area (can't remember his name) for: ignoring calls and voicemails, hanging up and not calling back, speaking in a less than professional way, and being dismissive among other things( probably assuming I had a lack of experience with these things). Lastly Carstar goes through Shore Tire for some things including alignments. I'd recommend saving yourself the headache and disappointment by just going somewhere else. read more

Like other reviews indicated, you really don't want to be waiting in Carstar's waiting room unless you're getting a detail job. Carstar is a preferred collision center of Allstate, my car insurance provider. After a tree fell on my car, Allstate set me up with this location close to my house. Everything about my experience was terrific starting with the initial estimate, setting up a rental car, keeping me updated on progress, and general honesty. $5,000 of repairs including dent removal, a new roof, and other cosmetic fixes took 9 days, spot on their initial estimate. They communicated well with Allstate and had my best interest in mind. Brian and the team at Carstar did a phenomenal job not only repairing my damage, but also making me feel welcome and valued. The repairs were thorough and you honestly couldn't tell anything had happened 10 days prior. I would highly recommend them for any repair, especially when working through your insurance agency. read more

My car started leaking coolant and smoking with 24 hrs of a car accident. This shop insisted it had nothing to do with the accident and said they repaired my radiator as a "courtesy" However, the install was so horrible that all the coolant leaked out and the brand new radiator melted. If you are Veteran and have USAA they will treat you right. From the moment I put in my claim until the day I picked up my vehicle I was informed of the progress. I took my car here after an accident. I choose it because they worked with my insurance company and it was close, assuming most auto body places would disappoint me anyway. But! I was wrong. I was estimated it would take 10-11 business days. It ended up taking 13 days because there was more damage than anticipated. But Brian was always able to take my calls, and made sure I got text updates and knew what was going on. I used CarStar Lenexa because it is a preferred repair shop with my insurance. Big mistake. They initially promised that my car would be repaired within 3 days. I was notified via text message that it would not be done Friday, but instead the following Tuesday. Well, ok. I was disappointed but two business days isn't that big of a deal. Then I was notified via text message that it was postponed to Thursday. Thursday morning, I called to see what time of day my car would be done so that I could plan my day. The employee who answered the phone told me that my car was almost done and that it would be ready for pick up between 3-4 p.m. Less than an hour after that phone call, I received a text message that my car's completion date had been postponed AGAIN, 8 days out. I called to find out what in the world was going on -- no real explanation (except that parts for my make of car are hard to get - don't you think they should have planned for that when they made my appointment?) and I was cross-examined about who I had talked to that morning (I have no idea what the name was, I was told my car was ready, why would I take note of the employee's name? I thought I was almost done with CarStar!) NO apology at all - no acknowledgement that they understood that it was difficult to be without my car, nothing (I was in the middle of a move during this time, something they knew, and had understood initially that my car would be repaired a WEEK prior to my move.) I called my insurance company the next day (which was a Friday) and let them know how unprofessional their preferred body shop was. They were appreciative of the information, and I received a second call from the insurance company on Monday. The insurance company representative was puzzled because he was told by the body shop that there was no issue getting parts for my car. I received another text message late on Monday, telling me that my car would be ready Tuesday. When I picked up my car, it did appear to be repaired, and they did clean it up nicely. Still no apology for the delay. Terrible customer service - a simple apology goes a long way. read more

Their service was beyond excellent and much better than you get anywhere for anything these days. My accident happened when everyone was LOADED with claims and repair orders and they did very well getting me in soon! Brian came out to the parking lot one morning before they even opened to take a quick look at my minimally damaged car front and bumper when I decided I would just have to be late to work that Tuesday to get an estimate before waiting for my day off Friday. He was quick and thorough, took a few pictures and he was exceedingly nice about it...he didn't have to do it at all before they opened and I had not pressured him to do it, either! I got in for repairs before I could have expected, long before any of the other body shops could manage. I received automatic update emails often along the way and every time I called, whether I got someone at the front desk or Dino, who I presume is the owner, they were able to fill me in efficiently, quickly and nicely about the status of things. When they returned my poor, well worn 2013 Elantra it was not only repaired perfectly and clean on the outside it was detailed SO WELL on the inside and my car is pretty dirty working two jobs and practically living in it....They are amazing on every level! My roommate also had TWO repairs done here, paid for out of pocket, one for scratches on her beautiful Camaro and one after running over a curb and both were priced very well and fairly and also done perfectly! Very disappointed in the lack of detail given to my vehicle. They were very misleading with several aspects as to what could be done and what would be done, especially in regards to the cost of the repairs. I am incredibly surprised, based on a majority of reviews, this doesn't happen more often. If you are not required to use this Carstar because of insurance, I would highly recommend selecting a different body shop. They simply do not care and you're just a number to them. read more

Well, body shops are NOT the kind of business you want to find yourself reviewing or recommending, but into every driver's life a little sh*t will happen! In this case it was a summer of parking lot incidents that left the conveyance fairly well dinged in various places. Took the car back to Crystal Carstar, which is fairly close to where I live, and once again they did an excellent job repairing the car. It looks like new, with all the paint perfectly matched and even. Ask for Brian Walters -- he'll work with you to make everything as easy as possible with your insurer. I took the car in, they had already made contact with Enterprise Rent A Car for the rental to use while the car was being fixed (check with your insurer to be sure you have coverage for a rental car during repairs -- if you don't add it, it should only be a couple of bucks extra to your premium and well worth it) and they're very good about communicating with customers about progress on the car and when it will be ready. In this case, because I'd had more than one incident over the summer that caused the damage I was looking at more than one deductible to pay, which was going to be painful. Because all the work was being done at once, Brian was able to work with the insurer and get some discounts on the work that resulted in only having to pay a single deductible! Obviously, that made me a very happy camper because it saved a LOT of out-of-pocket cash! I can definitely recommend Crystal Carstar if you find yourself needing bodywork, too! read more

I took my Nissan Altima 2009 to crystal carstar Lanexa last year when i got into a wreck and my car was totalled, mj at the body shop not only was really nice to us but made our car look new even after the wreck. this year again i was hit by some one from behind, after getting estimates from a few shops i still ended up going to mj ( even when i live about an hour away), we went in asking him to fix the issue the other insurance had paid for ( which was just a few scratches and some paint job), he ended up repairing/replacing our whole back bumper ( which had a huge crack( not from being hit) without any extra charge.. the cherry on top is that we always get a clean and a washed car back... nothing is more fun that walking away with spending less and getting more value...:D read more
