This was my second time reaching out to a car broker but the first time I actually "hired" one. I ended up cancelling my order because I ended up buying a different car and working my own deal. When I think of using a car broker, I think it's just to get a great deal, but after working with Justin T., I realized it's all the other stuff that's worth the money. With access to information on sites like True Car, KBB, Edmunds, etc., it's a lot easier to work deals if you're willing to put in the time and effort. But what Cartelligent offered was advice which isn't always easy to come by. Justin asked what features were the most important for me in the car I wanted and actually recommended I get a lower trim and add options/packages to get to what I wanted. He also said the trim he recommended has a lower money factor, so it was going to save me even more money in the long run! That kind of stuff, I don't think I would've found easily on my own. I didn't take delivery of the car, but from what I was told and what I've read, delivery takes 30-45 minutes, so that's another huge bonus. You don't need to go to a dealership and you're essentially in and out. Here's my take and the pros & cons: (+) Almost priceless advice (+) They do the negotiating for you (+/-) I'm still unclear how aggressive they are in really getting the best deal for you...they take a fee from the consumer but also something from the dealer...I'd think they'd want to play nice with dealers so they can continue to get inventory from them, so I'm guessing they're not as aggressive as a service that gets paid by the consumer on how much they save you. I'm sure it's a very fine line since if the deal's not good enough, the consumer will go elsewhere. (-) Cartelligent isn't open on weekends. If they were, I might've ended up sticking to my original plan of getting my car from them, but with how busy it's been at work lately, the thought of having to get the new car during work hours put me off just a tiny bit. (-) They don't hold back on the upsell...I was getting emails about extended warranties and gap insurance and other stuff...for whatever reason, I wasn't expecting that stuff and I guess it kind of changed my perception a little that "they're on your side". I know they'll position as being benefits to customers, but maybe it was more the timing of the marketing that was a little off-putting (I was getting them before they located my car). (-) I felt a little weird about giving so much personal info over the phone the first time I spoke with someone. I gave my SSN and CC and felt a little uneasy (if I didn't read positive reviews on Yelp! first, I wouldn't have given my info out so easily). (+) I think if you were very specific about what you wanted in a car, Cartelligent would be a great way to go, 'cause they were able to find one for me within a matter of days that didn't have a bunch of stuff on it I didn't want. (+++) Money back guarantee. If you aren't happy, they refund you their $500 fee. They ended up refunding mine w/o batting an eye. In the future, I wouldn't hesitate to try them again. I preface this review by stating that I tend to do a ton of research before making a 35k purchase. Although not an expert, I like to think I know a little something about car buying as I've purchased a few cars over the years. I contacted Cartelligent after seeing an ad in the newspaper indicating that they make the car buying experience simple (who wants to haggle for 5 hours with a salesperson) and I was connected to Alan Diaz the Irvine General Manager. Alan answered my questions regarding the services they offer and explained to me that his fee would be contingent on my complete satisfaction. I agreed to pay the brokerage fee upfront and Alan and I discussed the make and model I was looking for. I also had a trade-in for his team to evaluate. I mentioned that my credit union offered to get me the vehicle I was seeking for $400 above invoice price. Alan was confident that he could beat that price so I was excited about the possibility. I was pleased with how things were going until Alan called with the price of the car and the value of the trade-in: both were disappointing. They value of my trade-in was 3k lower than what I was offered at Car Max and I was able to secure a 2015 model of the car I wanted through my credit union for 1k less than Alan's best price on a 2014 model--without having to pay a brokerage fee. Alan also explained to me that my trade-in was not in high demand which was the reason for the lower offer. He also explained that the car I was looking for was hard to find. I never liked the whole dealer experience, and felt like I was getting ripped off during a purchase at a typical dealer. I recently went through Cartelligent in Irvine to get a 2015 Tacoma 4X4. I started by contacting their general line. They got me in contact with a Chris, who quickly started looking for exactly what I wanted. He found it within a day and started to get it over to their office. He was also able to handle my trade in, a 2008 Honda Civic, which he was able to get me a great value on. Several years ago when no dealer would "deal" on the BMW I wanted i used Cartelligent and actually got $5000 off sticker. At that time they operated out of San Francisco. Now they have an office in Irvine also. I was in the marked for a new car and wanted a Jag XK so I went to a few dealers and didn't like the experience very much. My biggest complaint was the ones I was dealing with didn't do what they said they would do. For example "I'll call you right back" meant they would call me back in a day and half. Not my definition of "right back"! Decided to try Cartelligent again since I was tired of the back and forth. Mitch Segal was great and started looking for the best deal. During the process i get a call from the dealer in Mission Viejo who I never had talked to but had filled out some on line form. I just had the quote from Mitch Segal at Cartelligent so I told the dealer what he had to beat. He actually came in about $2000 better than the bid Mitch got. I heard the ad on a pandora commercial and was intrigued because I hate the idea of buying a new car. I have 2 cars that were purchased in the 90s and not by me. I had my DREAM Red Mustang Convertible in mind and wanted to see if Cartelligent was the real deal so I did what anyone else would do... I yelped them. I was impressed with the reviews and responses so I decided to give them a call. I spoke with Chris Montague and he walked me through the process and we talked about my DREAM car and the specifications. He then told me to go and test drive a mustang at a local dealer.
