This is what my concrete looks like 2 years after it was poured. I have been trying for 2 months to get someone to deal with it and keep getting the runaround. I can't even get them to tell me how I can fix it. I left my original review after they poured my driveway and I was pleased with the results and that's why I called them when it was time to do more work. I waited 2 years for my concrete to cure and it never did. I contacted Valerie and she pushed me off on to her former partner. I worked with Valerie and her team 5 years ago on my back patio. They did such a beautiful job I knew when I was ready to start my side patio I would call Valerie. Valerie looked at the side yard, which was not in get shape cracked concrete, 2 levels, hard to not trip on the crumbling concrete and did her magic. She knew how to even out the concrete and added a second step and made the steps larger this made the patio one level. Her team worked efficiently and were very polite, easy to work with and hardworking. The result was a new patio with a beautiful concrete floor. I highly recommend Valerie and her team. Had Valerie and Crew tear out and replace our driveway last year. Excellent work and completely satisfied with the final product. As fate would have it, we developed a water line leak under the new driveway and sidewalk about 8 months later. This required the plumber to take out one section of the new driveway. Valerie and Crew came back and replaced the section and it looks like it was never removed. Perfect match. We actually had them replace our porch at the same time. This is a quality company. We had this company pour concrete in our backyard and side yard. About 75% of the job was a 4.5/5 quality. However, the rest of the job was not good. We had the guys build a pathway on a side yard. They built the pathway elevated on decomposed granite. The week after the cement was poured the decomposed granite had already began to seep out from the side creating a gap between the ground and the cement. I foresee cracks in the near future. The walls on the outside of the house where concrete was poured were stained with the color of the cement. This will require further power washing ourselves or repainting. Additionally the way the concrete was poured in the side yard caused the gates to be unable to close. While this is not a hard fix, this was not disclosed during the final walk through. It was left open under the pretenses that the cement needed to dry before the gates are closed and thus I felt tricked. I was also told during the final walk through that the crew would finish cleaning up, at which point I made the final payment trusting they would. The company however, did a terrible job cleaning up, instead leaving shortly after the final payment was paid. Cement scraps, beer bottle caps, pistachio shells, apple cores, water bottles and chip bags were left strung along our lawn. Not only was common trash and tubes and pipes from the job left lying around everywhere, but there was tons and tons of nails everywhere. We have dogs and a child. This is not only completely unprofessional but also a hazard. When my husband and I confronted the manager Valerie about the shoddy job on the side yard and clean up (a week later mind you) she was very defensive and claimed they were not done cleaning up and our concerns were easy fixes. The issue was not that there was an easy fix, but that this was not brought to our attention nor was it corrected. Furthermore I don't know what company leaves a bunch of trash and nails lying around for a later clean up date. More than three weeks after the pour and many sunny days later no follow up clean up has ever occurred. Valerie again claimed they never set an end date. However, when I hire someone for a job which is supposed to last a specific amount of time (3 days I was told), I shouldn't be waiting indefinitely for a month waiting for the job to be completed. The decomposed granite, DG, paths in my backyard were 3 years old and in need of repair. I had hired Carvajal Concrete last year to create cement paths for my front yard. They did such a great job and were so nice to deal with, I asked if they could help me with this new project. They told me that they are working with Daniel's Concrete and that he can do the DG project. Less than 24 hours later, Daniel was in my backyard and I went off to work. As you can see in the pictures, I came home to brand new DG and he even fixed all the bender board that was sticking up. Great job Daniel! She claims to "clearly remember our phone call" and mentions that I had told her that I needed a sealing job on existing concrete, that I told her I'd send her pictures, and never did. This is so funny to me because it's so false. I own a BRAND NEW BUILD WITH A FULLY DIRT YARD. WHY WOULD I ASK FOR A SEAL JOB ON EXISTING CONCRETE. Lol dying. If something did not quite make sense to us or we had additional questions, she always got back to us in a timely manner. Communication was great from the very beginning. My husband had already agreed to another company by the time I made the appointment, therefore I had to cancel my meeting with Carvajal. I'm posting because I feel people should know about past litigation that this company has been involved in. We hired this company to do our concrete in our back yard and they came and did it. Not much hassle getting it done except they needed us to be flexible with their time. Within a month, we began seeing cracks in the concrete which became bigger and bigger and ran completely across the concrete patio. We asked that they come back and fix it. They said they were a small business and they would need to save up to afford the materials to do it again. We were patient but after 3 months they hadn't come out again. We called them and Valerie said something about us posting bad reviews about her, condemning her parenting, and whatnot. Completely belligerent. I have no clue what that was about but now she was refusing to come out and repair our concrete. Now her reason was that she didn't have a license and she would soon get it and come out and fix her work. After a few months again she still was not able to fix it. We gave her a date to come out or we would take her to court. She told us to go right ahead. We did. She told the judge a bunch of lies and the judge saw right through her. She lost and owed us all our money back. After months of trying to recover our money, and getting told off through texts, showing up to a meeting place she designated only for her not to show up. Finally we had to garnish it from her account. She was THE MOST DIFFICULT AND UNPROFESSIONAL PERSON I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. She will respond to this with a bunch of insults but the court documents speak for themselves. You can look them over in the YOLO COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT website. I am happy to see they finally got their license. Unfortunately this will do nothing to save Valerie's attitude. read more

Anyone who has read one of my reviews, knows that a business has to work very hard in order to achieve a five star rating with me. I don't give the top rating unless it has been earned, by providing the best quality work (above and beyond), the best pricing, and the best customer service. We consumers get ripped off time and again by unscrupulous contractors, but I am happy to report that the service I received from Daniel and his team, was exceptional. The work was done to perfection, and although a couple of my yard sprinklers were damaged during the excavation, Daniel informed me, and then bought two new sprinklers and replaced and tested the system to ensure full functionality. That kind of integrity is why I fully recommend this business. They do great work (as shown in my images, posted) and charged a fair price. The service was completed in one day. read more

Well, the wife has taken over the business and we had hired them for concrete on our back yard. She came out and we were talking about all we were planning on doing with our back yard. When we talked about doing french drains and scalping the lawn to clear the weeds to do sod, she said "we can do all of that" so we asked for a quote as well. Pricing was reasonable, and she promised it would be done in less than a week. When the date came, they didn't take into account the rain and how soft the ground was. They ruined part of our front yard with their tire tracks, got their tractor stuck in our back yard, completely destroyed half the sprinkler pipes, didn't scalp the lawn, but instead just ground up the weeds and spread them out, they took rocks from an area they were doing concrete in and tossed them in the back yard. They charged us to fix the sprinklers they broke, they are in no proper line, scattered randomly, and they even buried 2 of them! When it cme to the French drains, they aren't sloped properly, they have it zig-zaging across the sprinkler lines, they buried 2 drain heads, and again, no lazer lining at all. My husband had to come home from work each day and fix stuff they didn't do properly. Even he mentioned problems to Mrs. Carvajal, she would make up excuses, and she said she never stays on site since she is too busy. When we tried to talk to the guys about the problems as they were happening, the one time she came to check in things she yelled at us for talking to her guys and that we can only talk to her. When it came time to actually do the concrete, she threatened to walk off the job if we didn't pay her for the extra sprinkler fixing. This whole experience was the worst I have ever had with any company. We later found out she is not licensed for landscaping or plumbing, even though she said her company does that stuff, AND her concrete license was actually expired!!! Worst person to work with ever. We are currently working with the state licensing board on what we can do about fixing all the problems she created. read more

I got one if those notices from the city saying I needed to fix the sidewalk in front of my house, because tree roots grew under it and pushed it up. So I did some yelping and called a few contractors. I went with carvajal because they were cheaper than what the city would have charged and because they're so nice! When they came to do the estimate Daniel came in his truck and his wife came in the mini van, with all the kids in it! I guess that's a little weird, but what ever. Their communication is amazing! I hate not being in the loop, but they worked really close with me about the inspections and every thing that go's with it. They even came on Saturday morning to pour the concrete! The only thing I didn't like about the experience, was that when the city arborist came and said we needed to cut about a foot of the existing sidewalk to make room for roots, Daniel charged $100 extra for the cutting. Other than that though, they did a fantastic job. I will most likely use them in the future! read more

Danny and his crew are a really hard-working bunch. They did a really good job of breaking out some old concrete for me and installing new exposed aggregate concrete in my backyard. After I researched a couple of other contractors- they were the most affordable in price by 20%. I was pleased with the clean up after the project and the concrete portion of the project turned out excellent. The only reason I don't give them a 5 star rating is because he never finished installing a drain that he said he would replace. I'm going to have to hire another contractor to come back and finish that part unfortunately. read more

I must say that your memory is a bit hazy because it's been five months since I wrote my review and you're only now commenting on it. Your husband was going to pour concrete the next day and you still had not provided color samples or a website so I could make my color choice. As I mentioned in my initial review It wasn't so much the 3% cc fee but that it wasn't mentioned earlier in the process. I stand by my statement that you wanted 100% up front despite what your comment here that states you only require 50% You neither apologized then nor now for your miscommunication or misunderstanding. Last week, I hired Carvajal Concrete to pour approximately 500 square feet of concrete in my backyard. My project included: Removing a five yard pile of dirt and cobbles; tearing out and replacing a poorly sloped 30 foot walkway along the backside of my home; and adding two adjoining 10 x 15 foot concrete pads to existing space. I found that the office manager was quick to respond to all my calls, and the project manager visited the site daily, and took time to explain his daily goals. He was very detail oriented, and took pride in his team's work. I asked for a broom finish and got exactly what I asked for. I read in a previous YELP review that a customer felt there were some issues regarding sexism. As a 60 year-old female, I did NOT see ANY issues of sexism. I was involved in all the communication with this company and found ALL the staff to be respectful, timely, and hardworking. I will definitely hire this company again for a future project! read more

The job looks fantastic and turned out great. They added a design curve without being asked that made it look far better that my idea. I checked prices and they were competitive. First and foremost this is a true family run business. If you have read my previous reviews you know I try my best to support small Locally owned businesses. I contacted Daniel Carvajal in order to get a quote to add 10ft to my current driveway and add stairs to the front of my home ad it sits about 7 ft above the sidewalk. Daniel came out within a few days as scheduled and on time to do the estimate. He was responsible and prepared to do the work as soon as i wanted. I was ready but concerned about the upcoming Christmas holiday because were were have family over. Daniel said he could do it and promised that there would be no mess and the stairs would be ready in time. I agree and Daniel would prep on Wednesday and poor Concrete on Thursday. I haveva few other requests, stairs are to be curved and about 6 inch high each. Daniel says no problem. I agee and we are ready to begin on Wednesday morning before Christmas. Wednesday morning arrivas and Daniel shows up right on tome 0730. He's got a nice work Truck and trailer with a small bobcat type loader/tractor thing in it. Daniel introduces my to his wife, Valarie. We discuss the job and some details and I sign on the dotted line. Daniel begins right away. By noon he's prepped the driveway area snd has already begun prepping for the stairs. Did I say he had done this all by himself. What a machine. By days end he has completed the prep for the stairs and cleaned up. He tells me hebwill return about 0700 with a few workers to form up everything and poor the concrete by noon. Again Daniel is right on time and hard at work with a few other guys. I watch as Daniel and two of the guys work on the forms for the stairs. Detailed craftsman is how I have to describe 0what they are doing. Measuring a 3 inch curve to eac stair and leveling each. Moving sprinklers, and double checking everything. I leave the house about 11 am and return later that night. OMG...upon my return I am astonished by how great the stairs look. Daniel really knocked it out of the ball park. Not only did he get each stair perfect, he added lines to the top of each stair, breaking up what might have looked very plan. But what is truly amazing is the fact that I wanted to ask him to do just what he did, but i did not want to add more to the job. The driveway are is just what I wanted also. Thank you Daniel and Valarie for a great job. Would i recommend Carvajal Concrete? YES I would. Another great family run operation. Great service, workmanship and reasonable priced. He wouldn't proceed because he wanted to make i was present even though my wife is the decision maker and knew what we wanted. It was a very basic job. Valarie (owner) had poor communication on time frame and work completion. Warning to potential customers - they seem uncertain about their skill in concrete work, that's why they probably left . Ours is a small patio and we called "Carvajal Concrete" to put concrete in our patio. They finished the work in a hurry and left. Starting next day, there was lot of water in the patio every morning. We did call these guys back asking if they broke any pipes underground, and they kept saying NO. Finally the HOA folks at our community identified that a pipe was broken underground and it was confirmed that it was the concrete guys who did it. The HOA folks fixed it though. My concern is that even after being asked repeatedly "Did you break anything", these guys kept saying NO. Also, when we initially called for the work, they confirmed for Saturday but then they came on Tuesday saying they want to do it right now. We wanted to give them a design but since they came unscheduled we were not able to give them the patio design. I even asked Daniel to do a curve at the end, and he said that he did not bring the equipment to make a curve. It wasn't our fault, when they come without schedule, they need to bring all their equipment. Even after all this the price was not reduced at all. Their work is not tidy, and is incomplete. Bottom line: Not worth it !!!! Response to the owners reply: "We did in fact show up on the Tuesday which was 4 days before schedule" - I do not think that could be an excuse for not having all the equipment ready. "We did call before we headed towards the job and they agreed to get it done." - I never said I did not agree. But I would obviously expect the guys to be ready with all the equipment rather than saying that you do not have certain equipment to do the curve shape. "We than agreed to move the board twice because the wife decided she wanted more plantar area after seeing the forms in place." - If that was your problem, you shouldn't have agreed to move and should have left the place without even working. This is when she decided she wanted us to change it again to curved edges. - As if you were ready to do it curved. "From the beginning Daniel mentioned the water in the yard and was told it was from the raingutter which is why when the home owner called, we did not go to fix the problem because it was not ours to fix, and the client wanted us to do it free." - It was you who broke the pipe when you put the stakes before the concrete, because it was exactly at the corner of the concrete. And why would I pay for something for which you broke. "Please understand these are new track homes and the pipe was near the fence line which our forms did not even come close to." - Are you sure that the pipe was near the fence line and not at the corner of the concrete? I can challenge you, can you? Never did we see the water before the concrete job was done, very evident that you were responsible to break the pipe underground. Also in that case, why did you folks even agree that you will fix it? That's because you know that you broke it. I still have the text messages. Honestly, I did not even wanted to bring "cleanliness" but since you responded back with "cleanliness", just wanted to let you know that you guys dropped a lot of sauce (while having lunch) on the A/C exhaust fan, and I cleaned it myself after you were gone. I wouldn't mind that but had to bring it up because you brought up the "cleanliness" word. So unfortunate that some businesses cannot please with their work but try to argue. My main problem is I didn't find out until AFTER the job was completed that THEY DO NOT HAVE A CONRACTORS LICENSE. I should have asked but I would have never gone with them had known. That puts the consumer at great risk while they work on your property plus, it is against the law. They are nice people but it makes you wonder why they are doing such expensive jobs without a license. I chose Carvajal because I thought they were a professional company with competitive prices. The workmanship was fine, and the guys that came worked hard and paid attention to the details. Most of them work for another company and I think that is why they poured on Saturday. There is cracking and the color of the concrete and release is NOTHING like the samples I chose. I contacted Valarie regarding the color and she never responded. I have read Valerie's remarks regarding my post and I still stand by what I wrote in that my main problem is, they do not have a contractors license, it is illegal to operate without a license and a great consumer risk to use someone that is not licensed especially when spending thousands of dollars and it is a huge liability. The personal remarks in Valerie's post insinuating by reading my prior posts it will discredit what I wrote are unprofessional. Yelp is for consumers to give their opinion and experience. If people choose to use unlicensed workers they are more than welcome to do so. They did good work, were a little cheaper, but for me, not worth the liability.
