I'm writing this as a warning to anyone considering Carvana with a trade-in that has negative equity. I purchased a vehicle from Carvana and financed through my own lender (USAA). I traded in a vehicle that was upside down, with the negative equity rolled into the transaction -- which I fully understood and accepted at the time of purchase. However, shortly after delivery, the vehicle exhibited a material mechanical defect that was not disclosed. I immediately notified Carvana and requested a return within their return window, which Carvana agreed to. Here is where the process completely broke down: Although the vehicle was returned, Carvana had already paid off my prior lender as part of the trade-in. Carvana is now attempting to leave me responsible for approximately $8,000 in unsecured negative equity for a vehicle I no longer own -- despite the return being caused by an undisclosed defect. Front-line representatives repeatedly fell back on "as-is" language, despite Carvana advertising a return policy and limited warranty that clearly contemplate defects. Requests for a full financial unwind and executive-level review were met with resistance and circular arguments, even after escalation. To be clear: I am not disputing that negative equity existed. I am disputing being left with unsecured debt after a transaction that was rescinded due to a vehicle not as described. Carvana's return process is marketed as simple and consumer-friendly, but that promise does not hold up when a trade-in with negative equity is involved. Customers are not adequately warned that returning a defective vehicle can still leave them with thousands of dollars of debt and no car. I am currently awaiting executive resolution. Until this is resolved, I cannot recommend Carvana to anyone trading in a vehicle with an existing loan. read more

My husband and I have used Carvana several times over the years and always had a great experience/vehicle until now. They advertise selling cars with cosmetic damage for lower prices, but this last experience several functional components of each vehicle were not working or in poor condition. Car 1. Interior handle for the trunk was completely broken, sent back for something in better condition. Car 2. Needed a transmission and our mechanic could never get them on the phone to start the claim. Car 3. An hour past delivery time I get a call that it will now be delivered 9 days from then, due to them breaking the mirror off in the delivery process. All while I'm stuck with a car that isn't safe to drive and still having to carry insurance on. I get the new car and the 3rd row both seats are broken, one latch operates but is coming unattached - the other side doesn't fold down at all. The middle console is broken. Pieces of the interior came off into the street from the front floor board/door closing area. The rear passenger door speakers don't work and the window motor sounds like it's on its last leg.. but at least the transmission is working. We traded car 2 for car 3 due to it being the same exact car and mileage as Car 2 and it would be delivered sooner than we could seemingly get the transmission fixed. Unfortunately on car 3 you are locked in and can not send it back. I've never had an experience until this one where we had to use the 7 day return situation- let alone using it to the maximum benefit. We loved Carvana for the convenience and quality - but it seems their standards of what they offer have decreased since we last shopped them. After emailing in the data along with a couple of pictures, they offered us $11,400 on the spot. We filled out the forms online and easily booked a pickup time at our home because we didn't want to mess around with delivering it to the location that was about 30 miles away, and of course, we would have had to follow one another after dropping it off. BUYER BEWARE - frustration by design Purchased a lovely EV on Carvana, and I would buy the car again, but never again from Carvana. The purchase itself was fine. I had it shipped to one of their car machines because they were going to charge me over $400 additional for home delivery, which wasn't mentioned until one of the final screens. That was fine too, I guess, but worth mentioning. Scheduled the pickup, then they had to postpone due to "state regulatory issues". OK. Scheduled second pickup. They tried to postpone AGAIN due to "nails in the tires". When I told them it meant they'd need to deliver the car to me, they miraculously got it fixed and kept the appointment. At the appointment, they hand over the car: 1. discharged (thank god it has a range extender) and told me it was charged because it said "battery range" on it 2. with the right front and right rear tires swapped (they are different sizes - that's a safety issue) 3. with a faulty 12V battery (that supposedly passed their "150 point inspection") 4. with multiple significant cosmetic issues not documented that were far worse than the items that were documented. 5. without the inflation kit for the run-flat tires A post-purchase inspection revealed the battery and tire issues. To its credit, Carvana made right the inflation kit straight away, and mostly authorized the work on three cosmetic items.(one of the issues affected two doors but they only authorized one) without much headache. The positives end there, because navigating Carvana's system (through SilverRock, but authorized by Carvana) is a nightmare. Moreover: They refused to reimburse the tire issue stating: "Hey Jose, At this time it has been determined there will be no further compensation based on what has already been provided and the repairs that have been completed successfully as well. Thank you, Customer Advocate Team" They referred me to three different places for the battery issue. One to confirm and actually file the SilverRock claim (important note), second referral for a place that doesn't even do 12v batteries, then a third place 15 miles away that took 4 days (including a SilverRock RE-authorization that took almost an entire day on its own) to replace a car battery. So that means that I spent almost the entire 7-day return period WITHOUT the car, unable to determine whether I even truly wanted the car, and unable to determine if there was anything ELSE wrong with it mechanically. Calling Carvana "Advocates" frequently ended up with "Call SilverRock" and calls to SilverRock ending with "we're a claims processor; we cannot handle that - only Carvana can." My advice: if you're going to buy one of their cars, make it a local car to minimize your exposure during the 7-day return period, because in my experience, they'd rather have you return it than actually help make it right. Don't spend a dime on your own repairs during the first two weeks (zero deductible period). But beware that filing a mechanical claim does not mean it's filed. IT IS NOT FILED UNTIL THEIR MECHANIC FILES IT ON YOUR BEHALF. Be prepared that if something is wrong, that you will have to drive far away to have it repaired. Be prepared to not have the car for days, mired in red tape. Take quick and decisive action on your own behalf if anything goes wrong while you still have the leverage of returning the car. They will not admit having made a mistake at any point, nor take responsibility for the mess they've made and the frustration they cause. read more

I just purchased a $27K BMW 7 Series from Carvana, and the experience has been a complete letdown. The online listing mentioned a few minor scratches, which I was totally fine with -- it's a used car, I expected that. What I didn't expect was a completely botched paint job on the door handle that looked like it was spray painted with a can from Rona. The color didn't match at all, and there was overspray on the rubber door seal, rear door, and even inside the car on the trim. This wasn't some small flaw -- it was sloppy and completely unprofessional. Worse, there was a black interior panel so worn it had a gouge over 1/4" deep showing the yellow plastic underneath -- and this car only has 50K miles. None of these issues were disclosed in the listing. They listed a few scratches, but left out the most obvious and embarrassing flaws. When I brought it up at pickup, I was basically brushed off. The staff acted like I was being difficult. They told me I could return the car if I didn't like it and that they "can't show every defect" online because of photo limits. No apology, no real concern -- just a cold handoff like I was picking up fast food, not a luxury vehicle. What made it worse? Before pickup, I reached out to support via chat and was told I could submit up to 3 cosmetic issues after delivery and they'd address them. I submitted the maximum -- including the overspray and worn panel -- and immediately got an email saying it was "normal wear and tear." Normal?? On a BMW 7 Series?? Since when is rattle-can paint with no prep or tape job considered normal? I just moved to a new area and urgently needed a car, so returning it wasn't really an option. I didn't want to take another credit hit by canceling and going elsewhere. Now I'm stuck putting $3,000+ into fixing something that never should've been my problem. Bottom line: this experience was embarrassing and frustrating. I will never buy from Carvana again, and I'll be telling everyone I know to steer clear. You're way better off going through a certified pre-owned program where this kind of thing would've been caught and handled properly. read more

Beware of buying a car from this company. Our post purchase experience was substantially disappointing because the car we purchased happen to have a recall notice with NHTSA. We were also forced to purchase a short term warranty from a company called Silver Rock. Neither company is standing up to their obligations regarding this recall and have done nothing but point fingers. This is only a concern because the recall element is a safety issue related to the charging system and to correct the problem we now are faced to fund the purchase of the part on our own. After three weeks of calls and discussions with Carvana and Silver Rock neither will back their product or service. Vehicle Condition and Mechanical Failure Within the first 50 miles of ownership, the check-engine light came on. The vehicle is now at a Ford dealership for repairs and has remained there for over a week. At this point, the dealership has had my truck longer than I have, despite my owning it for less than two weeks. This raises concerns about the condition and inspection standards of the vehicle prior to sale. Lack of Compensation and Customer Support Carvana has informed me that they will not compensate me for the use of my personal vehicle, my time, or the inconvenience caused while the truck is out of service. Their initial offer of $200 for a truck bed cover was insufficient given the larger issues at hand. I was also told that a mirror scratched far beyond what was shown in the listing was considered "normal wear and tear," and no responsibility would be taken. Issues With SilverRock Warranty The associated warranty company, SilverRock, has denied covering several items in full--even low-cost parts such as a $16 center console liner that was missing at delivery. Dealing with SilverRock has been time-consuming and unproductive, contributing to additional delays and frustration. Overall Experience I chose Carvana to avoid the traditional dealership process, but this experience has been significantly worse. Carvana does not disclose known defects in the cars they sell. I have purchased a Kia Telluride , the next day I discovered a crack in the windshield. Callex Carvana and their records show that this car had a crack that was sealed. But that Was never disclosed to us customers. Since we didn't notice it in the time of pick up we are eligible to request a repair. Windshields are not covered in the warranty and not pay for it. The only option I have is to replace the car. I purchased a 2019 Ram 1500 from Carvana in November 2024. Within just a few weeks (December 2024), the check engine light appeared. That was the start of a nightmare I'm still dealing with. Between December and January, I took the truck to Firestone on three separate occasions for diagnostics and repairs. Despite multiple repair attempts, they couldn't resolve the ongoing cylinder misfire issue and eventually referred me to a Dodge dealership. From there, the problems only escalated. Cracked cylinder, failing engine components, thousands in repairs, and months without a functioning truck (see my Dallas Dodge review for the full breakdown of what's happened since). While I understand Carvana can't control every mechanical issue, selling a vehicle that broke down so quickly after purchase and continues to reveal serious hidden problems shows a lack of proper inspection and quality assurance before putting vehicles on the market. This experience has left me extremely dissatisfied, not only because of the financial burden but also the time, stress, and inconvenience it has caused. I would give zero stars if that was possible. Overall this was a terrible experience for us. Do not in any way believe that your purchase will be hassle free. This was extremely difficult for us because we rearranged our work schedules multiple times. We're using a loaner vehicle and needed a vehicle, and thought this was going to be an easy hassle free experience. It was not. We ended up cancelling our order for several reasons. Our order had multiple delays. It seemed that this is also a case where because they use a shared system that relies on many people to enter information into this system, it's difficult for anyone to tell you clearly what is going on with your vehicle and the delays. We speak to a person, they tell us one thing, and another person tells us something different. Oh we messed up and your vehicle wouldn't fit on the truck, has to wait for the next truck. Then when it arrived at our location no one looked at till right before our appointment time. They then realized it didn't pass inspection in our state, and then wanted to delay our appointment, WHILE WE WERE STANDING IN THE WAITING ROOM. No one is on the same page. Ultimately if you value your time, don't buy here. Because Carvana certainly does not value your time. As a side note, this vending machine location was awful. Multiple people were standing in the waiting room, and there was no one around to greet people. It seemed that everyone was busy, and priority was being given to people who were there to sell vehicles as multiple staff members seemed to be inspecting vehicle in the parking lot. The facility itself was also not clean, there were multiple stained areas in the lobby and trash debris in the nearest car inspection area. Overall I would never recommend Carvana to anyone and especially not this location. If you feel good about giving them your money, signing a loan agreement and then receiving your vehicle whenever they make time for you go for it. But seriously don't.
