I usually do not read prior reviews so that it doesn't influence my opinion. Parking is easy, Place is very clean, I was pleased to see the "A" grade. I ordered a large vanilla shake which was $10. Polite quick service. Too bad I didn't pay attention to how it was made. The shake was super watery . It was not even full to top of cup and it just tasted like a cup of milk. This is a great little Carvel ice cream shop. they have a sweet small selection of soft ice cream or ice cream cones dipped in chocolate. you can also get ice cream cakes and other little goodies. the service is good the place is incredibly clean! I always order the same thing but it gets worse and worse each time with each new face that gets hired there. I understand they're teens that got a quick job for cash, but they should be able to understand the order. This is my last time coming here. I ask for a lot of nutella. I say it every time... where is it? Then this kid that did it didn't even fill it to the top, and gives it to me in a cup that's got two cracks in it. It's annoying to walk out of there paying for pretty much just Vanilla soft serve. I don't need to spend $8 on it because I can make the same thing at home with regular ice cream and Nutella, but I like to treat myself... Never will I enter this store again (after my most recent experience). I have been going to this location since I was kid and for about the past four years now I have been getting the same thing each visit - a Nutella Sundae Dasher with various additional topping (that I typically just pay additionally for). After visiting this location with a friend yesterday during this difficult time (coronavirus crisis), we were greeted rudely by one of the store "managers". She informed me and my friend that the sundae dasher I requested could not be made - the same one I've been ordering for years and even ordered a day prior to this visit. It was clear that store "manager" had a problem doing her job and was racist towards my Dominican friend. It was almost like she was doing everything in her power not to work, we tried multiple ways in order to fulfill the requests we wanted with our order...Finally she agreed to make the "Sundae Dasher" in the form of a large sundae?! After that experience yesterday, I figured we'd try again today (hoping for a more welcoming/pleasing staff member) - upon arriving we noticed the same "manager" was working and my Dominican friend did not even feel comfortable enough to enter the store due to her prejudices...Therefore, we decided to UberEats the order which the "manager" cancelled a total of five times and was seen laughing about it with another co-worker through the window. Upon calling the store, she knew exactly who we were and was once again horrendously rude. I asked for her name so I could report her to the store owner and include it in this review but she refused to give it to me. Overall, I was not looking to get anything for free and was willing to pay any additional cost to have my order made the way I requested it to be. This "manager" has now stopped me from ever giving business to my local Carvel again. Very disappointing! Truly unacceptable! I've driven by this store a bunch of times but didn't stop until the other day. It's Carvel. Always reminds me of when I was a kid. They have a bunch of ice cream cakes and sandwiches that you can take home. I'm not familiar with their new additions to the menu so I tried a Sunday Dasher with Riece's Peanut Butter flavor. It was pretty good. They share a parking lot with a few of the adjoining businesses. It can fill up pretty quickly when it gets busy. Plenty of street parking too. read more

To satisfy a pregnancy craving, I drove to this location specifically for a strawberry milkshake. Placed my order to the inattentive toddler behind the counter and waited as he prepared my order. Now I get in the car and take a big gulp as I turn on the belt pwkway and to my disgust all I taste is yogurt! Who the fuck puts yogurt in a MILKSHAKE?! And if you do ruin a milkshake in that manner why not disclose that?! The mere smell of yogurt make me nauseous so imagine what the taste does... from that one gulp I was sick for two days. As if the disappointment wasn't bad enough (any pregnant person reading this can relate when it comes to cravings) being sick which led to dehydration was a bonus FU. No matter how many times I come here, the portions are always small. If you ask for a small cone , you might as well just ask to try 6 of their flavors from the icebox and not even pay. You ask for a large cone , they give you the amount of a small cone. I want to know what's up with that?? On Wednesdays the buy one get one you literally tell them don't skimp on the icecream and they ask you , well these are our sizes.. No kidding really and I'm telling you I'm willing to pay but don't short change me.. I got the dasher with Reese peanut, low and behold there was only one peanut cup in it and Reese pieces m n mss. It's such a let down. I'm not always in Mill Basin to hit up our usual spot . But I can tell you for now on I'll make the drive to that Carvel . Today I decided to take my son for a special treat to get ice cream, we decided to skip coldstone due to the high prices and remembering Carvel is a little more affordable I brought my son there. I ordered two medium vanilla ice creams in a cup soft serve and was charged a ridiculous high amount of $14! At first I thought I was hearing wrong and walked out thinking maybe I just got ripped off. Next time will absolutely go to coldstone because the prices here are even higher! Will never return! I love this carvel store and let me explain why :) first off I live in Arverne on the peninsula of Rockaway Beach and the only Carvel we have is the dirty one on 116th street and I do mean dirty last time I checked they had a health inspection grade of a C! So I travel across the bridge to get my mother cherry vanilla ice cream and my vanilla ice cream with rainbow sprinkles from this carvel. Also my wife loves the mint chocolate chip with brownie bites :) we call this old folks ice cream because Carvel been around for years but the flavor never changed and it's better than these ice cream patriots popping up everywhere. The staff is super friendly! The ice cream is delicious! The store is always clean! They have a A for their health inspection grade. Had a custom order cake. Placing the order was very easy and the guy who help me was very nice and walked me through all my options. However when receiving the cake, I did not get what I wanted. They did not add in any of the extra decorations I wanted and the spelling was wrong on the cake. There was not a problem fixing it but the way it came out was still weird looking because they had to edit their mistake. And the girl that assisted me with the fixing the cake was a bit rude about it. The cake seemed very bs. Basically paid an extra $20 for a picture on a cake that was already $60. Personally would never go there again nor recommend them to anyone read more

If you're looking for warm soft-serve ice cream that melts and runs down your arm two seconds after it hits your hand, you've come to the right place. They also specialize in thin, flavorless shakes from putting a full half-gallon of milk in them. The girls who work there all give you an attitude because your ice cream is interrupting their conversation, and God forbid you don't tip them when they're done giving you your stupid ice cream. Not that it matters much, but the owner/store manager is pretty weird, too. Every time I've gone in there, he's either smoking a cigarette right outside the store, or creeping around in the back behind the ice cream machines. I really liked carvel until Today when I came into this store. This is my second time coming to this location, I believe the first time was for a ice-cream sundae.. Which is what I think of when I see the big signs everywhere. I also loved their Ice-cream cakes, which we had a lot of when we were younger. But I guess over the years, I've moved on to more "adult" tasting (less sugary) Ice-creams, that's why I haven't visited carvel for about 5 or more years. So Today (on a hot July day) I came to my old favorite, for a milkshake and a cone for my mom. I opted for the strawberry milkshake, and my mom wanted the Reese's cone ( which is one of their newer flavor). We were told that the Reese's cone was unavailable, which was a huge disappointment cause it's the ONLY flavor that looked appealing and interesting. We drove out of our way and passed coldstone creamery, which we should have gone to instead. So anyway, she got the regular cone- which she said tasted just like the ones from the mr. Softee van. As per my milkshake, it was too sweet and bland. But besides the disappointing products and unavailability of the advertised cones, the thing that really got me to never again come to this carvel, is the unfriendliness of the young woman that was serving the ice-cream & her inability to produce a reciept to me. I'm hugely disappointed that a company as big as carvel cannot properly train their staff to handle a simple task of generating a receipt. First she asked an older gentleman how to get it from the register, and he didn't know as well. Then she says to me "I'm sorry I can't give you one" without any further explanation. This is no small mom and pop store in the 50s!!! It's 2015 and you can't give a customer a reciept?! That's just unacceptable.
