I've been going to this location for years. The couple/owners are very nice and priced fairly. Remember to pay cash to avoid extra credit card fee. Only remark I have from a 5 review is that their milkshake tend to be a little heavy on the milk. I'm pretty sure others have felt the same way. A little more ice cream and lesser milk. read more

I came here the other day cuz I was craving Carvel's classic pistachio soft serve ice cream. However, they only had gingerbread, which is available for a "limited time." I tried a sample and it tasted kinda weird, so instead, I opted for the chocolate and vanilla swirl on a cone, which goes for about $5 and change. I didn't have cash on me, and apparently their minimum for card is $15...which I thought was a little absurd, but whatever. Luckily, the older gentleman behind the counter let me use my card anyway, when he saw I had no cash. The ice cream itself was okay in flavor, but it was melting very quickly. Filthy! It's under new ownership so I was hoping they would clean it up a bit, but nothing has changed. The cooler they keep the ice cream needs to be de-iced. The way the ice cream is stacked on one another like that is unhygienic and you can see the ice cream itself is getting freezer burn from being left wide open, uncovered in the freezer. Ice cream dripping all over the door handle; as I walked out I got ice cream all over me. The toppings in the showcase are mixed with one another and doesn't look like it's cleaned and closed properly for day to day, just left there open. Lastly, the cones are stale. Again left open all night, probably rodents getting to them. Was really hoping for an upgrade to this Carvel, but the same nonsense. Go to the one on Hillside instead. read more

There has to be a refrigeration issue with the soft serve. It was half milk when i got my sundae. I wasted my time and money i could barely properly eat my sundae, in fact i had to drink it if i wanted to ingest it. I asked for the strawberry shortcake sundae with bananas. The owners looked at me like i just landed my UFO in their store and couldn't understand why i was so weird for asking for bananas. I like bananas ok. Anyways she didn't mix it that great. First and last visit. Old looking place, and sticky door. Prices? because I wanted chocolate sauce they charged an additional $1 without telling me. Also, they charged me additional "because it is from this refrigerator", they didn't inform that would be additional cost either. To top it off they charged a "tech fee" , perhaps because I paid with card. Don't get me wrong, I LOOOVE Carvel. But the closest Carvel to where I live is nothing to rave about. Really small with hardly any seating. Came in here once for a one day "free Lil' Rounder" promotion and lo and behold they were out of them. And it was only 2pm. Instead I got a 59 cent small cone because I didn't want to leave empty handed. The promotion was advertised on a small sign in the window but nothing inside so most people didn't even know about it. The fours stars are because I like the owners a lot; they are a very sweet older couple. They are indeed a bit light with the ingredients, but any Carvel not serviced by teenagers is that way. It's close-by and I when I need a black and white shake (I'm sure I'm about 75% milk shake at this point), I must have one. If it's not thick enough, I'm like George McFly at the end of BTTF and I go ask Biff to thicken that baby up. If you want more product in a store serviced by the owner, don't be a push over... make them give you the right amount. I ask every single time I think it's too light and at this point they sort of laugh, but they always take care of it. We stopped by for an after dinner treat and was throughly surprised. I love Carvel, I prefer it over Baskin Robbins, but this Carvel is nothing special. Its really small. The ice cream doesnt always taste right. SUPER EXPENSIVE. I think all of the locations have the same prices, but damnnn Carvel is expensive. Last night, I ordered a kids size birthday cake mix and its came out to $3.59! barely one scoop. I was there this weekend to pick up a cake I had ordered on the way to visiting my in-laws. The couple who works there is very nice, friendly and helpful. They offer a wide variety of different sized cakes - I went with a large round cookies and cream and chocolate cake with a nice blue trim. I also made sure to get myself a chocolate soft serve with crunchies and a vanilla cherry bonnet for my wife; both were delicious! Avoid if all possible. Other Carvel on Northern is so superior. Maybe it was the end of the day, but the elderly Chinese man could do nothing but grunt. His portions were minuscule and the products were weak. Don't know how to make watery ice cream and fudge but the products at this place all tasted diluted. Maybe one last summer and they are trying to wring the last penny out of the place? How can you be grumpy selling ice cream? People love going in your store and you can't even try to speak to them. This place is your average Carvel. No better no worse. Its small, owned by an elderly asian couple. They are nice people, I believe their prices are pretty standard with other Carvel prices. My wife and I only came in here to satisfy her sweet tooth. She got a vanilla soft serve cone chocolate dipped. It came out to $5 which is pretty much what I paid for that when she got Mister Softee. If you are on Horace Harding at Joe's Pizza or the bakery or liquor store and want some ice cream you cant go wrong. read more

The ice cream here is standard. Some are good, others not so much. (I once had their green tea ice cream and it tasted like shampoo! And i love green tea ice cream in general). I might suggest Wild Cherry over this place if you want more of a variety and more bang for your buck.
