Went into the Selden carvel today with coupons for buy 1 get 1 free and the manager refused to honor it because it was for the Farmingville location. I planned on spending over $20 in there but she was kinda rude when she said "we don't honor other locations coupons". Really its carvel in winter...... business is business especially when the place is dead. We live in Farmingville but live in the middle of both locations. I'm on the fence with this business. From the looks of things it's a nice small family owned branch of carvel. And I am for supporting the local families. There is a middle aged man and his wife?at the counter. I've dealt with the man the 4 times I've gone this month. He seems like a nice person but seems sort of confused with the orders (which can come across as rude) but always get the orders right. I found the place clean. The female working there also seems flustered and had ice cream all over her arms while dealing with the customer...because the place is packed. I honestly feel they are overwhelmed bc they are understaffed. They should hire someone as a cashier so they can concentrate on getting orders etc. They have good flavors and unique flavors. I would increase the rating to a 4 or even 5 if these changes are made. read more

Not sure why the previous comments were so neg. Ever since the husband left and the wife took over, my experience with purchasing anything from them has been great. I have purchased Ice Cream cakes and you can taste the freshness. The owner does take pride in her store and keeps it clean. I don't go anywhere else but there to purchase ice cream cakes. read more

I stumbled upon this fabulous store last weekend with my son and sister in law who lives in the area. I have to be honest, this is THE BEST CARVEL STORE I have seen in a long time. I live in East Islip and I wish the owner of EI store would take notes. As soon as we walked in, the owner Cheryl and her husband greeted us with smiles from behind the counter. The pride they have in their business just flows out of them. They were soooo welcoming and helpful as I was on overload at all the choices. The store, on that day, had over 12 or so soft serve flavors going at once, in addition to all the specialties they had. It is definitely one stop shopping.....ice cream cake, soft serve, hard scoop, novelties, every kind of candle you could imagine, balloons, small gifts and gorgeous toddler birthday hats and matching onesies. The ice cream cake and the artwork on them was absolutely beautiful and blew away any Carvel I have ever seen. The store was immaculate, the toppings bar had so many choices and was also spotless. We got a Carvelanche, a cone with sprinkles, and a shake. It was top quality icecream, clean tasting, fresh, just like Carvel should be. It was all under $20 which floored me! We just lingered there just taking it all in . Cheryl and her husband could not have been more accommodating to all of us that day. You can tell they are so proud of their store as they should be!!!! They are definitely an asset to the franchise. I wish they would venture back to our neck of the woods, lol. Anybody who is in the area, stop in and patronize your small, local shops. went to get coffee malted. Tattoo lady said they had NO soft serve coffee ice cream so she couldn't make it. My husband said: you have hard coffee ice cream, use that: She refused, saying she couldn't put hard ice cream in machine. My husband said, " Put vanilla soft serve in the machine and use coffee syrup". She again REFUSED, saying "that's not how we make it". I always try to avoid the Selden location due to the unprofessionalism, lack of customer service skills, etc. I came not too long ago for a cake and it was terribly sloppy. It was written by the owner who is always making me feel rushed when I go in. I went in tonight 20 minutes before they close, ordering five items... I was talking to another employee(which I believe is the other owner as well as her husband) about one of the sundaes, as I was doing that the older women(owner) was talking over me trying to find out my next order because she was rushing trying to close. Very disappointed and annoyed with this service, would not recommend. read more

I have lived in Selden for numerous years and have always frequented this Carvel! The store is clean, immaculate and well stocked. The owner is a doll and is so sweet. She looks to help you as soon as you walk into the store. I would recommend it to anyone! read more

I've been going to this Carvel for some time now. I cannot believe some of the negative comments, the owner is always so sweet and helpful and friendly. They have a tremendous amount of selection and you can tell it's a business that takes Pride. Go there with high expectations as the owner is there nearly every time and she is a sweetheart. I contacted the owner today. When she answered she stated she was glad I called and said she tried calling me twice but then lost my number. I did express I had no voicemails and she agreed that she could have left a message but at the time felt it would have been impersonal. The owner shared that she had been in a meeting that ran over and that is why she had been unable to answer the phone or be at the store on time. The owner was apologetic and expressed that she was very sorry for the miscommunication that occurred. I will give this store another chance due to her concern for what happened. She also offered a small cake "on the house". I will gladly update again after another visit. Just a note regarding previous reviews saying bad reviews must be old staff etc. I would like to say I'm not a past staff member nor do I know anyone personally. I wrote what I experienced and now I am following up regarding the appropriate response I received from the owner when we spoke today. read more

Second visit. Never again. 1st time the place was filthy, the staff was disheveled and half the bins were empty. Last night the staff was rude. They had no napkins and she chucked me a paper towel. No wonder the joint was empty on two for one night. Don't waste your trip ! read more

This was deff one of the most stressful trips I've done at a carvel. Never have I had such a bad experience at a carvel. Will absolutely not be going back. It is my cousins birthday and I wanted a cake done I called ahead of time they told me 40 min I get here the cake isn't ready so I told them I had to go get someone and I will be back for the cake cause apparently the person who does the cakes stepped out who I believe is the owner but I'm not sure. I go back and the cake isn't ready and they tell me that I told them I was going to center reach which I never said, then tried to blame me saying they normally take a deposit, but they never asked for a deposit if they would have told me I would have gladly left a deposit even though it was only a 20$ cake. They come back with the cake cake and all they did was stick something on there completely don't understand why the person that was originally there couldn't do something that requires zero cake skills here I am thinking I'm getting a nice decorated cake. Horrible customer service except for one worker who was a blonde woman with glasses only one who knew how to treat customers she deserves to be working somewhere better than this horrible place. So my wife and I went to this carvel this evening to get some ice cream. I ordered the cake mix carvelanche and my wife ordered a Reese's dasher. Before ordering, my wife asked for the Nutella ice cream and the gentleman responded with "our Nutella is no good tonight, it's not finished being made." The gentleman, who was very nice, gave my wife some soft serve ice cream with some Reese's pieces and hot fudge. $6. Paid $6 for a dasher and got a basic sundae. Now my carvelanche, well, is 4 scoops of hard cake mix ice cream with a topping. I was a little concerned that this was being made wrong but hey, I don't work there. The gentleman put the cup of hard ice cream in the carvelanche machine and man you should have heard the terrible sound that made. He then comes back and says "that's why they don't use the hard stuff, it broke the cup". He then dumped the soupy ice cream into a new cup and said "you need more ice cream" and just scooped another scoop on top of that. I'm no ice cream connoisseur, but I feel like the carvelanche is supposed to be like a McFlurry. Well this is 4 scoops of ice cream, well 1 scoop with some soup and a topping. Another $7. So in total I paid $13 for I don't know what. Like I said. Nice guy. But CLEARLY there is some training gaps at this location. read more

Awful! I ordered a birthday cake carvelanche which cost almost 7.00 and they charged .60 for each topping (birthday cake and sprinkles) that were supposed to come as part of the carvelanche. Total rip off! read more

I have lived in Selden 10 years and I have given his carvel a few chances especially when I see the new ownership sign. Once I saw the girl drop a pack of flying saucers on he floor, she immediately looked at me and then picked it up and placed them on the table in the back not in he garbage. I switched to the Centereach carvel right after that. Few years later, this past Saturday I went to pick up a cake for my daughter, they messed up on a letter and blamed me for it. I know how to spell my daughters name. My son birthday is 3 days away so I go there today , all ready for the attitude , but older woman was there, no motivation , no smile, barely wanted to speak. Seemed tired and annoyed, almost irritated when I said yes I want the receipt please. Don't waste your time I have bought 3 birds from next door and pizza from nick and Gina's but will not go in carvel not even for free ice cream. They are nasty and have a bad attitude Centereach carvel much better. read more

I purchased 2 pachages of flying saucers--$24.96, which I thought was way overpriced--for an event, but 10 min later I got a call it was cancelled; without even reaching my destination, I went back to the store to return them. The same girl was there (she was the only one in the store). She said once the product leaves the store, she can't take it back; she was very firm about that. She tried calling the manager on both the store phone and by her personal cell phone. I've worked in retail/customer service all my life, for both chains and independantly owned business, and I know that if you don't get an answer long before the 15-20min it took her, you give the customer what they want so they leave happy and eventually return. I am always polite to customer service, because I know what a rough job it is--I said "please, isn't there anything you can do?"; I never raised my voice, never became animated or agitated, never used foul language, never personally insulted the girl, although I did calmly critisize the owner's buisness practices. (She said that because it's food they can't take it back once it leaves the store, but I pointed out that Stop & Shop and Trader Joe's will glady take something back even the next day.) 20min later the girl got an answer from the manager, and handed the phone off to me. The owner actually yelled at me for saying she didn't know how to run a business, and that there was nothing she could do except give me a store credit. I figured I'd take that over nothing; the girl took a piece of notepaper that you would use for a to-do list off the counter and wrote my name and 24.96. I looked at her shocked, but still calm and polite I asked, "Don't you have anything more legitimate? Will someone different behind the counter a year from now honor this??" When I asked her if I could get a gift card instead (I'd put a lot more trust in those), she called the manager again and handed the phone to me again. "I'M GIVING YOU 60 SECONDS TO LEAVE THE STORE BEFORE I CALL THE COPS!!! YOU'RE HARASSING MY EMPLOYEE AND YOU'RE INSULTING ME!" Shocked, I tired to say, "Ma'am..." "DON'T YOU MA'AM ME! YOU'RE DOWN TO 50 SECONDS! LEAVE OR I'M CALLING THE COPS RIGHT NOW!!! Oh my God, I've never been treated like a criminal before while trying to return an honest purchase. This Carvel location is the absolute worst customer service experience I've ever had in any store or eating establishment. How on Earth did this woman (Cheryl is the owner's name posted in the store) become a business owner? I'll never, ever go there again. read more

This place is horrible and so is the owner! I've been there a couple of times and regret it all the time. if the owner isn't there then you get your moneys worth, you know what your suppose to get when u pay $6 dollars for a cup of ice cream, however when she is there she totally rips you off. I went in there today to get a small cup of ice cream with sprinkles, at first she was standing there telling another customer how she was fighting with the previous customer because he wanted more ice cream and sprinkles in his half filled cup she told him it would be extra and the guys wasn't hearing it and apparently it ended with a tug of war over the ice cream and the ice cream was all over the counter and sprinkles were everywhere still when I got there. after staring at me for 5 minutes she finally asked me what I wanted I told her and I got half of the ice cream that was suppose to be in the cup with a tiny bit of sprinkles and then told that the toppings are extra. ok great thanks, she is very unprofessional and not pleasant at all. As a business owner myself I would never act the way she does and I defiantly wouldn't rip off customers. I don't know how she was awarded anything if anything the main corporation needs to know how bad this place and the owner is. Save your money or better yet go to a different Carvel. read more
