Was in the area with family and came across this lovely ice cream place. Got the rum raisin ice cream and really loved it! It tasted super fresh and unlike anything I got from other stores before. The store is clean and owner was generous. The ice cream cake we got was delicious and beautifully decorated. I loved that there was no icing on it so the taste was great yet not as sweet as so many cakes out there in the market! If you are in the area definitely check the store out! read more

Although spoiled by NYC ice cream shop standard, we found this northern NJ shop a pleasant surprise! Very impressed by its variety of ice cream cake choices, we especially like the flavor being mildly sweet ( than typical super sweet cakes you can get from Whole Foods or major Supertmarket chains). Thumbs up on staff service, so patient and helpful as we are thrilled by different choice and trying to pick a cake favored by all 5 kids of ours and friends. Remember when Carvel ice cream was great? Yeah, those days are over. It sucks ass now...no flavor. Bought 3 cones for $15... sprinkles are extra! Could've got 5 gallons of ice cream for that price. Place was dirty, crap all over the floor. But the kicker was this.... I took my 92 year old mother there for ice cream and she needed to use the bathroom. The kid behind the counter says, "you can't use the bathroom, it's for employees only." I said, "why not?" She replies "for COVID." This little biatch wearing no mask, no gloves, touching cash, coins, her face, her hair and god knows what else, made my ice cream with her filthy hands...... no COVID concerns with that! It's your typical ice cream chain. They have all of the usual flavors and fixins! This Carvel location has it's own parking lot, which is an added bonus, as street parking in Woodland Park can get hairy at times. The store is relatively clean and well lit. There is plenty of seating available too! The staff is kind and the service is quick. The only reason why Carvel is getting 3 stars is because the chain serves basic ice cream. I feel for the 4 or 5 star distinction Carvel [corporation] should delve into the gelato world....also, Cookie Puss scares me (he is always watching). read more

This was myself and my family's first visit at our neighborhood Carvel. My fiancé, son, and I were excited about creating our own combination of ice creams. We did prefer hard ice cream as opposed to the soft-serve so we asked one of the associates to assist us and she did so willingly. On our way in we did notice the manager/owner (an Asian woman) sitting down at one of the tables with someone Who looked like her husband. While the associate and I were discussing my ice cream flavors and toppings the manager stood up, walked over to the associate, and watched her very closely while she prepared our orders. She then sat back down while we waited for other customers who were in line to weigh and pay for their items. When it was our turn to pay for our items, she stood up again and walked over to the cashier and watched her ring up our items and watched us pay. At this point we felt discriminated against, I am black, my son and fiancé are Puerto Rican. She did not say hello, did not welcome us into the establishment, did not even make eye contact with us. Yet, she micro-managed every associate who had a hand in our order. She did that to none of the other customers who ordered hard ice cream or self-serve. My fiancé and I did mention to the associate that we appreciated her helping us, but did not appreciate the non-chalant, overbearing, and unkind presence of the owner/manager. She then began speaking in another language to the older guy that she was sitting with, and never acknowledged our displeasure in the service. Also, throughout the time we were in the shoppe the manager's family members (children) were running back and forth from outside, behind the counters where ice cream and toppings were, which I found very unsanitary and unprofessional. We ordered a Fudgey the whale cake for Father's Day - VERY last minute! They were polite and accommodating! Thank you!!!!

The older woman, Irene, was extremely rude. We asked one short question about a using a coupon and she would not stop giving reasons about why we can't use it. Her tone was so nasty. Additionally, we ordered a Tagalong Girl Scout sundae and what was given to us looked NOTHING like the picture. The picture shown is almost completely chocolate & peanut butter. What they gave was all vanilla ice cream with a tiny bit of toppings (maybe 3 crushed cookies pieces total) and the entire top half of the cup was whipped cream. There was no caramel sauce/butterscotch sauce on top, like depicted in their ad overhanging the counter, and when we asked for it, the guy said they had no more. I later saw a huge counter pump, clearly labeled "hot caramel sauce." Don't you think he could have offered chocolate sauce or something instead if they really were indeed out of caramel sauce? I can't believe I paid $3 for a junior size cup of vanilla ice cream! HORRIBLE, lazy and rude service from all ends. Only the younger people really offered help but they also wouldn't leave us alone to at least look at the merchandise and then decide. I would never come here again and they'll be receiving a complaint letter as well. read more

I'm normally not a fan of self serve frozen yogurt shops. For some reason I thought a self serve carvel sounded like a good idea. Luckily I was right. The store had free parking located in the front. When I went the store was completely empty. I asked for samples and got to try Nutella, cake mix and peppermint. I love Nutella and was disappointment that it tasted sour. Peppermint was sour too. Cake mix tasted amazing and thick. Other flavors they had were strawberry, vanilla, chocolate and mint. Their toppings bar was great. They had the classic carvel topping chocolate crunchies and also vanilla crunchies. They also had a full service counter for carvelanches, cakes and ice cream sandwiches. If you're into self serve frozen yogurt I would definitely recommend this carvel. I would've given 5 stars if the quality of all their samples were good. read more

So yesterday was my birthday which really is no big deal but my bf knows I can't resist fudgy the whale ice cream cake on my bday. Although it wound up being a last minute decision, I searched online the hours of a nearby carvel that was still open. We headed to carvel in woodland park that was open til 10pm. We arrived in the parking lot at exactly 9:40pm. My bf went inside and picked up a fudgy and set it on the counter and asked the worker to please write happy birthday on it. The guy was nasty and said he didn't have anymore white icing and the other colors wouldn't show up on the brown icing of the cake. So my bf then says ok, can you write it in blue then? Nasty again, just kept insisting that it won't show up on the cake and kept repeating himself like an idiot. This jerk didn't want to do his job and simply just write happy birthday on my cake! Its very apparent that this guy is doing whatever he can to not do his job even though his shift ends at 10, not 9:40! Eventually he goes in the back and comes back and says that this was the only icing he had left. Guess what??? IT WAS WHITE ICING THAT HE COULDVE NOT LIED ABOUT IN THE FIRST PLACE AND WE COULDVE ALREADY BEEN OUT OF THERE AND HOME! So he finally extends his laziness of an employee and writes happy birthday real quick that it looks like scribble. As soon as my bf picked up the cake and walked out of the door, the guy walked out right behind him, shut the door and locked it and was in his car to leave before us and it wasn't 10 yet! Stopped by this place when visiting friends at Woodland park. My daughters wanted to have ice creams so we googled and and found this place. It has a very neat environment, and the owner happened to be there serving us. My daughters love their ice creams. We tried a few flavors-cotton candy, mint, rum and raisin- all fabulous. As a frequent eater of Coldstone, we found Carvel ice creams are fresher and contain less sugar. We will definitely visit back. read more

Ice cream (soft serve and hard) is good. My server Renee, was really good and accommodating, she made it a pleasant experience. It was a really busy night in the store and I felt for the girl, she almost had a line out the door, and she did it all by herself! She deserves a raise for all that hard work! This place is absolutely disgusting ! I come here all the time and it's always terrible and I always wanna give it a chance ! But this set me the f*ck off . I came in there sat on the line which was 3 people that took about 5 -6 minutes not that bad . I ask for soft vanilla in a cup not hard at all . She says it needs more vanilla and she refills it is fine . She starts doing it and liquid comes out of the machine . I was startled because I would think she would get me a whipped ice cream like usual nope ! This Carvel is a disgrace. They need to clear the snow so you have access to the store parking lot and forget about walking, it's a 6" wide path to walk on, Hmm , why are there no violations issued here? very dangerous. This place is awful! I've been living in this area for years and enjoyed eating here. Unfortunately due to new management/ownership, the quality has dropped significantly. The owner who is an asian woman is very rude and doesn't treat her workers with respect. The younger workers are always so pleasant and helpful but the days where she is working, the store is empty like a ghost town. I recently went to get a sundae because on Wednesday's it's buy one get one free. I ordered one Walnut sundae and the other a twist with Reese's cup. She told me they didn't have chocolate and said with an attitude "you should have told me both orders, so I wouldn't have to take two trips!" The cup holder and the ice cream machine are less than 1 ft away, so why the attitude especially if you asked me "Do I want anything else?" I'm 23 yrs old and she was talking to me as if i was 12. I never complain when I get bad service, but this was the last straw and customers need to know that they shouldn't bring money to this business if they are not serviced properly. Imagine a little kid being talked to like that without their parent/guardian there? It is right next to the elementary and middle school and I have seen many students avoid walking in because of her. If you live in the Woodland Pk, Little Falls, or Totowa area I recommend visiting family owned shops such as Gelotti, Sip' N Swirl or Flavors. You get more bang for your buck and a pleasant experience. read more

I have been coming to this ice cream shop for many years now and I can just say right now, I never leave unsatisfied. I've witnessed several times people complain of prices, but in my personal opinion I think the young girls who run the store, always fill the cups with enough ice cream and toppings to match the price. The girls ALWAYS greet customers with smiles regardless of how busy and frustrating it could get. One thing however I wish for these girls, is recognition. Despite the busiest days the store sees, they always handle the crowd quickly and professionally, even if it is just one person on staff. If it was not for these young girls, this store would be underground. Kudos to the owner for finding such hardworking young ladies! read more

We had carvel ice cream cake for my wedding. I wasn't very confident in the girl who took our order so I emailed the store a picture of what we wanted. The final results were absolutely perfect. The large round cake was out for the cake cutting and all the guests were served from large sheet cakes. read more

That said, the last 2 times we purchased cakes they were terrible. They tasted old and there was ice in the cakes. As a long time patron, I have noticed a decline in the cleanliness and service. I did not get the same "friendly" feeling as I walked in.
