I had a horrible experience with this restaurant. I rented the upstairs banquet hall for my daughters graduation party. I had a contract with our food specifications they were to serve. We were supposed to have beef and cheese enchiladas, crispy tacos, queso, rice, and beans. When the food was being set up as all my guest were arriving. Fajitas were being set up. I let them know that was not to be served and not of the contract. They said they made a mistake. This was a huge mistake! They were unapologetic and just acted as it was fine. Go to Austin! I haven't found a decent mexican food place in Bastrop yet and i have tried them all. This place though is the worst in town and dont you want to know why? First off frozen margaritas should be frozen. The first time we ate here it took at least 10 minutes to get a waitress, another 20 minutes for our drinks and we decided to cut our losses and not order any food. Rita's were melted and warm and service was slowwwwww. Inside it seemed like the staff was having a great time, and not worried about the clientele. If you sit outside you will get the worst service, as if they forget you are out there. Now they are under a new name but the same old business, slow service and poor drinks. When we eat out now we make a trip to proven eateries in the Austin area because there are so many great places to eat and drink in A-Town! read more

This was the slowest "quick bite" I've ever gotten in my life. A friend and I, on our way back to Austin, decided to stop in--thinking our visit would probably take a normal 45 minutes or so. Nooope. We got there and were immediately greeted and brought chips and salsa. We were one of two tables in the restaurant (it was 4pm). I left to go wash my hands, and ordered a water. When I came back to the table my friend had her drink, but I had no water. Not a huge deal, ordered a mimosa. Took a surprising amount of time to mix some orange juice and champagne (keep reading) in a glass. We ordered our app with our food, and the server didn't have much knowledge about the menu. About 10 minutes later, the bartender came up with a mimosa and apologized, because our server had actually just poured me orange juice. He was very nice and I appreciated him doing that, but wow. 30 minutes later, we still did not have our queso. It was approaching 5 by this time, so I'm assuming there was some sort of a shift change happening. There were at least 6 servers standing around the POS system not doing anything. One guy brought in pizza, and I swear I was going to jump up and take it from him because I was so hungry. Eventually someone who was not our server brought out the queso, and it was clear it had been sitting there for some time. It was lukewarm and had coagulated. Then they brought out the food. The food was fine, nothing out of the ordinary. After we were done, the server brought our checks, and (keeping with the theme) it took absolutely forever for her to come retrieve them. After grabbing them, FIFTEEN MINUTES go by, and she still hasn't returned with our checks. I keep seeing her start to walk over, then turning around, then coming over, then turning around. When she finally makes it to the table, she informs us that their system isn't functioning but DON'T WORRY because she's written down our names and card information so she can charge us later. Can we talk about that for a second? She took the liberty of writing down my credit card information on a slip of paper. When I inquire as to what she'll be doing with the slip of paper after running my card, informs me that she cannot shred it after she runs it because they have to keep it "for their records". WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. EFF. After a colorful conversation ensued, she tried to run our cards again. No dice. The owner comes over to speak with us, and she recited the entire POS System manual to me and the history of the last two weeks and the issues that have occurred. As fascinating as I found that to be, I was really quite ready to get back home after spending 2 hours in this restaurant. The owner then tried, and succeeded, in running our cards. For the full amount. For someone who spent 7 years in the restaurant industry, you know that these things happen, but you should at least apologize--if not comp at least a portion of the meal. She did none of this, and instead dropped off our checks and proceeded to tell me more about how the machines work/don't work. Like I said, the food was fine, but I will never return to this restaurant due to horrendous service. Definitely advise anyone to keep driving if you're hungry, and check out a spot further into town. read more

This is a mixed review because of the new policies at this restaurant. The food is excellent and so is the staff, that is what is good at this restaurant. The bad is not informing you of a credit card processing fee. I received my bill, paid with a credit card and before I signed the receipt, I noticed a processing fee of $2.33. I spoke with the manager, very sweet lady and we discussed this fee. She said it came from the owners in Austin. The $2.33 doesn't sound like much but if Casa Chapala is charging 100 patrons that processing fee, they are making $233.00 more a day on people like you and me. Doesn't this sound more like what the airlines are doing to us. The manager also showed me the almost transparent and small signs they placed on the entry doors (I have attached a picture of the sign and my bill with the processing fee). We LOVE Chapala!! The food is just terrific and the service is always top notch. We have been there many times and we have always been warmly greeted and enjoyed many happy times there. The owner,,Sylvia, is just a delight. During these crazy times they have actually taken all our orders (in our small community) for Taco Tuesday and delivered them to a parking lot nearby. I was having a good dinner with family and friends, however I found a tac in my food and for someone who has worked worked in the food industry for multiple years, I find it unacceptable for there to be a metal tac inside my shrimp taco. My family have been going to the Austin location for years, and we are proud to report that it is outstanding in Bastrop as well! Food, service, & atmosphere are ON POINT! My husband and I decided to try Casa Chapala based on a neighbor's recommendation on NextDoor. We were there for a late lunch. The server's name was Iveth and she was friendly and efficient. They bring chips, salsa and bean dip to the table. The salsa is a little different from your typical Tex-Mex. it is made from fire roasted tomatoes and peppers. We didn't detect any onion or cilantro. It was good but we did need to stir it up a bit. Apparently, they make each bowl fresh right before they bring it to your table. It was good and the bean dip was good as well. We ordered the Texas Queso and found it to be good as well. It did "harden up" as it got cold though. I ordered a combo plate with a beef taco and beef enchilada. The ground beef filling was more flavorful than most of the typical Tex-Mex places around town. The tomatoes actually tasted like real tomatoes instead of the typical watery, flavorless tomatoes most restaurants serve. The beans and rice were pretty much on par with most Mexican places. My husband ordered the The Chili Relleno Especial. He thought it was good but surprisingly it had no cheese. He loves cheese, so this was a let down. Maybe next time he can ask them to add cheese? We didn't order any alcoholic beverages. I had the iced tea and asked for lime wedges but she brought me lemons. Not a huge deal, but I do prefer limes. They have a tequila bar and from the looks of it a very well stocked bar. They do have Happy Hour on weekdays from 2-6 with some pretty decent drink specials. Over all we gave this joint 4 stars. We will go back and try some more items. Do be advised though, the menu hails from Jalisco Mexico and is a bit more authentic than the Tex-Mex places we already have in Bastrop. They don't have the typical heavy red chili sauce that Tex-Mex fans love. Just giving you some warning that it is different, but good! read more

Wonderfully authentic and fresh. Great menu and service. The patio is nice and has great spacing of the tables. Come hungry your going to want it all. There is also outside dining upstairs patio. We loved everything about it. There is a lot of variety for appetizers, lunches, taco bar, drinks. They had sauces we've never heard of. The atmosphere was clean, comfortable and colorful. Our waitress was timely, courteous and extra attentive even though it was mid afternoon. The prices are reasonable. A must try is the appetizer was queso flamato. Yum yum.
