Came back several times. Really enjoyed every visit. We're always quickly greeted and seated, brought water, chips and a spicy, charred salsa. The wait staff is friendly and checks up on us regularly, They have a chalk board with specials. A nice bar - Today their specials included a $5 margarita. But I also like their generous Mexican martini (brought out in a proper shaker) and their Fridarita - an ode to Ms. Kahlo featuring hibiscus (jamaica) and decorated with a flower. It has to be the most interesting margarita I've ever encountered. And it tastes great. My wife had the menudo and a crispy chicken taco. She enjoyed both. And the taco was larger than most. I came back to my favorite here, the shrimp relleno - a blister, peeled poblano pepper (not battered or fried) filled with shrimp and ranchero sauce and served with white rice and lovely, grilled vegetables (zucchini, yellow squash, mushrooms, etc.). On my way back from Austin , me and a colleague wanted to check out a Mexican restaurant that was in route. We decided to stop here since the reviews here were pretty solid. We were greeted and seated right away. The salsa that came with the complementary chips were outstanding. However, the authenticity and vibe were unfortunately lackluster. I ordered my meal and I told the waitress I did not want any cheese in my fried stuff avocado meal and when the meal came she assured me there was no cheese which she was wrong. I couldn't get another meal made right for some reason so I unfortunately did not finish my meal. Unfortunately, I will have to pass on this establishment. read more

This was our first time here. Apparently, the restaurant has been around for quite a few years, I believe this was their new location. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the restaurant. Very polite, place we clean and organized. We sat down, chops and salsa were brought to our table. I ordered a michelada, its was good. I should tried the tea, the tea can make or break a place for me. I ordered one of the biggest plates, two cheese enchiladas, a crispy taco, queso, rice and beans. Everything was delicious. They seem to work as a team so service was excellent. No wait at 10:30 am on a Sunday. We usually get bkft tacos to go but decided to eat in today. Chips were fresh and warm- bkft tacos are always good with the well cooked bacon- not burnt but crispy. Super expensive for mediocre Mexican food. I got the flautas which we poorly rolled. The rice and beans were small servings. we got the micheladas which were, again, super expensive. I didn't think the food was as great as I was reading, and I've had great micheladas for less at other restaurants. Overall, I was not pleased and would definitely go to other places before this in the future. The service was great our server was friendly. I love the Latino Hispanic music mix they had. Food was good, I tried the stuffed Avocado plate, a bit too cheesy inside rather have more chicken inside. My daughter tried the beef chimichanga..very good, not the best. Good bang for your buck. The menu is typical Tex-Mex and tastes like all other average places. A strength is the bargain lunch deals until 3 pm during the week. For $10 you can get one enchilada and two small sides. I had a chicken verde plus guacamole and black beans aged was quite satisfied. Happy hour prices weekdays from 2-6 are also pretty good. E.g., a Mexican martini filling 2.5 glasses for$9. It lacks ambiance and the seating does not seem permanent. They could move these booths and tables elsewhere easily. There is a lot of empty space. After Five hours of yardwork, everyone was starving. We headed out to El Nuevo Mexico restaurant which I have never been to. They accommodated a group of 16 with no problem. The one waitress that handled the group was excellent, pretty much got everything spot on. With this being my first time, I was leery of the tortilla soup. It turned out to be great. just got off work and really just needed food and something to drink- decided to try out this place I pass by everyday. I'm so glad I did. Bartender Juan Pablo made my margarita so good I felt like I was on a breach on a Hawaiian island. Never tasted something so amazing I even asked what he used. And told him to NOT change a thing it's perfecto!! So after my moment with my marg I asked if I could order a plate of nachos. So glad I did. I began to ask what kind of cheese they used for nachos but said to myself "bruh you asking ALOT" so I didn't BUT you definitely should try them out very delicious! Just ordered Favor and they forgot my shrimp cocktail, dasher went back and the staff told him that everything was in the bag. Restaurant and staff should be more aware and count the items they put in the bags, because restaurant refused to send back the item I was missing because THEY SAID EVERYTHING was in the bag. So far, the best TexMex food we've had since moving to Texas a month ago. Second time at El Nuevo. Take out this time, four (4) dinners, got home, only had three (3). Drove back, picked up the ladt dish and they three in a bag of chips and some salsa. The food was authentic, tasty and the pico was excellent. Prices were about $3/entree more than the Menu prices on Yelp and we picked it up ourselves.Chicken gorditas, Quesadillas, Enchiladas and Tacos were all good. We just moved to Bastrop and this is the closest restaurant to our new house, but with a 3 star rating I was hesitant to try it out. I am glad I did. These are the results: Service: A++. We were seating in under 60 seconds and chips and salsa arrived 10 seconds later. Our chips, salsa and waters were refilled probably every 5 minutes, well before anything was low. Food Selection: A. Good, but my wife and I nearly always go with Fajitas so variety isn't a big issue for us. Food Quality: A. Fresh made tortillas always go a long way to make me happy and my shrimp fajitas were solid and they had a lot of nice additions you can purchase like extra veggies which I liked. Overall, we will certainly return and while it isn't the best Mexican food I have ever had it is a solid place with plenty of room, friendly and helpful staff. read more
