The service at this restaurant is the worst that I have ever experienced. We are the only table in the section and all our drinks are empty, chips empty salsa empty, no silverware. Another Bastrop fail. First time we went, one kid projectile vomited after eating his meal. At the table, my second kid vomited in the parking lot and I was the last to get hit. Wow, Wow, Wow. Was getting hungry on my way to San Antonio and stumbled across this place. There is Mexican food...than there is Mexican Cuisine...this is the latter. Sure u can find the old standbys of enchilada and tacos...but this menu has true artistry included. Lamb, A stew with Oysters, crab legs and fish, and a piping hot bowl of Ribs, bacon wrapped shrimp and skirt steak tender enough to cut with a fork. Yeah! This was awesome...here is a great place to get delicious Mexican food with a smile! They first serve you a small bowl of beans and terrific salsa with fresh corn chips. Yummm... then my husband ordered the Chili Relleno Especial which is what he orders most of the time and he let me taste (generous) and we both agreed it's the best he's had. Then I ordered a shrimp taco (not on the menu) and a chalupa compuesta. The tostada was very crisp, their refried beans had a great flavor and the guacamole was tasty with nice chunks of avocado. Worst restaurant EVER! Very racist to their own kind! Complained to the waitress that this white man was making faces and pointing at our table just because "we were loud" it's a RESTAURANT! (had my nephew watching YouTube) I told her if you don't do something I will cause a scene. Well the waitress just gave me the bye! talk to the "Manager", I sure did but manager didn't do ANYTHING because that man and his wife "Were regulars" so that means if you are a "Regular" you can do whatever you want or say because they will NOT say anything to you, that's what matters to them! As I know all customers should be treated the same. This restaurant is really disappointing, so before coming in be sure you and your family are not LOUD! This place needs some good management. Don't remember the lady's name (the manager) but can't believe she didn't do anything becase they were regular customers and those need to be treated much much better. read more

This place would've gotten a 4 star review from me had it not been for the terrible service. We ordered a fajita plate for 2. When our food finally came out the guy that brought our food only had 1 plate of rice and beans and the meat plate looked a little on the small side. I asked him where the other plate of rice and beans was or do they only give 1 plate for the Fajitas for 2. He looked puzzled and said that this was only fajitas for 1 and that we should talk to our waitress because our ticket said fajitas for 1. We flagged down our waitress to ask and she said that some people share the fajita plate for 1 so she put the order in that way and if we wanted the fajitas for 2 she could put in an extra order but we would have to wait for it. I was highly annoyed because that made us have to wait longer and we only stopped here on our way back to Houston. The manager looked at us from a distance but never came by to apologize nor offered us any kind of discount. I'll definitely think twice before eating here again. read more

Been there twice. Fell in love the first time eating Alla Crema Pollo..second time FOOD POISONING! From the Alla Crema Pollo! After returning to work and violently throwing up and ither details i won't share. I went back to the restaurant and spoke with the manager Jesse who refunded my bill and then asked for a copy of my drivers license because he wanted me to pay$45 remainder of my bill. Basically my getting food poisoning, missing 2 hours of work and going to the doctor us worth $15 to the place that caused all this. Great spot for happy hour/drinks and appetizers. We loved the tableside salsa and the bean dip that comes with the tortilla chips. We also had a plate of delicious nachos chapala and two good house margaritas. Our main meals fell flat though - the mushroom tacos and enchiladas aztlan were just okay. read more

I can't rate the restaurant on the food but I can tell you that when I pulled up, I went into eat. I walked in and many empty tables. I was told it was a ten minute wait. I told the manager that I would wait. Another couple came in immediately after and was told the wait would be 15 minutes. After waiting for a while, I noticed the manager and 2 wait staff just standing at the hostess desk, not doing much of anything. My wife and I left and got in the truck. We were so excited when Casa Chapala made it's way to Bastrop! We always loved the building, but the previous owners had food that was less than good. Finally, an amazing owner, Lupe, comes in and turns the place around buying the building and putting in Casa Chapala. We honestly first came in because we loved the ambiance of the restaurant. Then we tried the food.... WONDERFUL. It starts off with the server spicing your salsa table side so you can pick mild, medium and hot to your taste. Classy. My husband and I could both bathe in the green chili/tomatillo sauce that is on the carnitas. I normally don't get beef fajitas because they are so chewy and stringy. Not at Casa Chapala, you can tell they invest in a better cut of meat because it is like eating real steak! Don't miss the Mexican Martini. Wow! Truly first class service. Lupe, Sylvia, Enrique, Berta.... Everyone we have encountered has been amazing. Can't wait to go back!!! read more

Excellent service and food! I've passed Casa Chapala more times than I can count driving to and from the Austin airport, and I've always wanted to try it. I finally had the chance to stop recently with my family after picking up my MIL from the airport. My 2-year old daughter was overtired and in full angry toddler mode as soon as we sat down (a real treat, I tell you.) Kids get a free balloon here, and my daughter SO excited about it, but angry we wouldn't chase it all over the restaurant. Or give her candy. We WERE RUINING HER LIFE. I was at my wit's end and our amazing, thoughtful waitress swooped right in to help so the adults could get a few bites of our food-brought her chocolate milk in a kid's cup (no charge), gave her hugs and and cuddles, and colored with her. The bartender even brought her a little cup of fruit, saying he had a few kids of his own and could sympathize. We were blown away! Instead of being frustrated with our bratty kid, they went out of their way to give us a great experience. The manager even came by to make sure we were doing well. The food and drinks were excellent, too; especially the tableside guacamole and the mole sauce...we will definitely be back...after naptimes, of course. :) read more

It started out great and loved the bean dip you are served just for sitting down... but that's a good as it gets. I ordered a white sangria and was brought red.... which was just the start of the bad service. The food was awful and luke warm. One of the worst Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. My partner and I were in search of Mexican food in Bastrop and decided on Casa Chapala based on the glowing Yelp reviews. However, after 5 minutes of waiting to be seated in a mostly empty restaurant, another 5 minutes of waiting for a waiter, and 10 for our water, we had realized we made a mistake. When our waiter finally returned to take our order, it was clear that they had little knowledge of the menu (they did not even know when the lunch menu ended!), But we still placed the order smoothly. She offered us a second round of chips but failed to return until the very end of our meal, and we ended up having to ask another waitress for more chips and water refills. The chimichangas we ordered had arrived 30 minutes later and were average at best, though really small. Additionally, the beans were cold and the rice was hard. After we had finished our food, nobody had checked on us and we payed at the register and promptly left. I will never be returning to Casa Chapala and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody who enjoys eating. read more

Bizarre salsa made tableside - basic tomato sauce with some spices sprinkled in, the amount of which depends on how hot you tell them you want it. Never have I had the heat in salsa come from some red pepper flakes stirred into it. Hubby had beef enchiladas with refried beans and rice. Boring enchiladas and rice. Beans tasted like they'd opened a can in the kitchen and microwaved them. Nasty. I had the pork and chicken fajitas. There were mushrooms and some bits of beef thrown in. Mushrooms?!? Sometimes restaurants will do that to stretch a meat dish trying to make it look like there's more meat than there actually is. And there was waaay more peppers and onions (and mushrooms) than anything else. The "guacamole" was literally a tablespoon of mashed avocado. When I asked for more, the waitress brought me a bowl with 3 tbsp. of mashed avocado and charged me $3.49 for it! My charro beans were bland and tasteless. And to add insult to injury, this place is EXPENSIVE. Service was just okay. If I could give it less than 1 star, I would! read more
