WOW!!!! Where do we start??? This place is FANTASTIC!!! The food, the service...everything!!!! Andrea (host) greeted us at the door and made us feel so welcome. It was almost as if they had been waiting on us to show up. We haven't had that kind of greeting since we'll before Covid. Then our waitress, (we forgot her name) was at the table fast getting our margarita orders. She never let our drinks get low and checked on us constantly. We haven't had this great of service in SOOOOO long, it was WONDERFUL!!! As for our food....DO NOT eat chips and salsa because you're gonna wanna leave room for this spectacular culinary delight!!!! I had the Pina De La Costa and my significant other had chicken enchiladas. There are no words to describe how incredibly good everything was. The portions are HUGE, so if you've eaten chips and salsa (made at the table per your spice specifications and SUPER delicious), then you're gonna have left overs for dinner. We had 2 huge entrees, tons of chips and salsa, 2 glorious top shelf margaritas, all for under $70!!!!! Great food, great price, great service, great atmosphere....you can't ask for anything else!!!! Came here Saturday evening reserved a table online was ready as soon as we got in. Greeted by friendly staff. Inside was SUPER loud, like shout to your waiter loud. We asked to be seated outside instead and they were able to accommodate that right away. Way better! Nice and tranquil outside seating cute decor and nice fountain to listen to. They hand seasoned salsa for the table and took order. Big portions and food was amazing will be back to try more things! Parking lot a bit busy and a little hard to park but other than that good and service was amazing. read more

This is without a doubt our go-to restaurant for Mexican food in Bastrop County. The food is always consistent and good, always give you more than you can eat, (which is good and bad ) and the house margaritas are awesome! The staff is awesome too. Very attentive, professional, polite, & great at their jobs. They make you fresh salsa and guacamole right at your table. Just tell them how spicy you want it, and consider it done. They are vegetarian friendly, they have a section in the menu for us high maintenance folks. White rice and black beans for us as well. read more

We have dined here quite a number of times and the food is outstanding. The service is always good. There is always more than enough seating and only once did we need to wait to be seated. They have a balcony which is quite nice! Their prices are very fair and there are so many food options. Our server (twice) has been Colt. He is so funny, attentive, and kind. He has made our visits here so awesome. Very personable guy. I need to get their recipe for the bean dip. I never liked beans before I started to dine at this establishment and I will only eat them HERE. We will continue to go back. Adding- their cocktails are very flavorful and NOT watered down as has been the case in a number of establishments we've visited lately. I highly recommend this place. I look forward to returning. P.S. I am disabled- I walk with a cane and I have a brace. A very nice server (or perhaps a manager) downstairs stopped me to hold the elevator for me. Used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant in town, unfortunately was overcharged on our last visit. I brought it to the bartender's attention (was charged for 2 double shots of Jack Daniel's at $12 each). She voided the ticket, rang us up again (with help from the manager) but this time charged us for 1.25 shots of Jack x 2 at $8 each. The small 1oz shot glass was still sitting in front of my husband, it wasn't possible to pour him more than the 1 oz, so why were we charged 8 each instead of 6? At this point my husband was pretty irritated, as we gave them a chance to correct it. Very disappointing, we used to come here every Friday, noticed a change in bartenders (upstairs), but thought we would get the same great service without being overcharged. Dinner for two - Valentines date! Not crowded but many places are already closed tonight due to the wintergeddon going on right now. Queso Flameado for app, very cheesy, delicious and a little show to go with the food. Flaming cheese mixed table side. Also table side salsa prep to go with the chips. I got some pork carnitas, delicious, juicy and tender with some crispy edges to make it great. Wife got a combo of relleno and a chimichanga. She said it was really good, but two big margaritas in...can you go on that alone? She had a coconut and a mango margarita. Both tasty, the coconut had flakes garnishing the cup. I had a peach margarita after I was half done eating and still got a warm and fuzzy feeling. It tasted great too. read more

Starting with the positive the staff was extremely polite and helpful and the atmosphere was great. The food itself was ok not great. We had ordered just normal beef tacos and a family platter the tacos came out dried and hard it was hard to get down and the platter for being 165 was not worth it. It was mainly just cheap veggies and a small amount of each meat the "ribs" were so thin each bite I broke the bone. At the end we were charged with over $270. We had a party of 5 yet they included gratitude of 20% automatically and on top of that charged a 3% fee for using a card. Turning a $200 meal to $70 worth of extra fees. read more

I have visited this restaurant for years at least once every 3 months and was never impressed; my thoughts were that it was overpriced and just ok food. It's located exactly 1/2 way to my destination and it is conveniently next to Bucky's fuel so it just made sense to stop to eat at this location. I stopped by last night on a Saturday and the parking lot was unusually full. Once inside every table and booth was occupied, and the same for upstairs. I noticed the staff was more than doubled and always in a hurry, but smiling and engaging. The General Manager is someone I had noticed was new, and Eli or Elizabeth was phenomenal as my waitress. The food was superb and came out hot, and with very generous portions. The salsa was made at table side. The bathroom is clean. The atmosphere was electric and this was a wonderful experience compared to my last visit a few months ago. Everything about this eatery has been changed and for the better. Updated review: July 2022: I didn't think things could get any better and service is always great but today Xavier D raised the bar and really made a random dinner night really enjoyable with a friendly attitude and amazingly attentive service. Thank you. (original review still valid) We have been here three times in the last month and we are coming back at least once a month. Why you ask? Well if you follow my instructions below you will allow fall in love with Casa Chapala. 1.) Arrive with a group of four people 2.) Order table side guacamole and Queso Flameado (Melted Oaxaca cheese topped with chorizo) 3.) Be careful on asking for "hot" salsa they do NOT mess around on the table side made salsa. All of this plus unlimited chip (refilled quickly) is so yummy and a huge portion enough for four people easy! You could easily fill up on just this. But if you are still hungry I've had the shrimp fajitas twice and my wife the chicken fajitas which are both very large portions and call them 4 out of 5 stars. (My pet peeve is pulling tails off boiling hot shrimp) I also ordered the Caldo Siete Mares once (which is like a seafood soup) and it was really good, but not my standard fare so I will be ordering shrimp fajitas next time I return. They have plenty of seating and really friendly staff. Can't miss but I wouldn't sit outside as it is pretty loud due to the road noise read more

This is a great local place and has great food! Family run operation and you can tell. The staff is so friendly no matter how busy they get. You can tell that they are happy where they work, and you don't see that vrey often these days. Having been there numerous times, the food is consistant and always served hot and fresh. I love the salsa cart where you can get your salsa fresh and at the heat level that is good for you. The portions are huge and the price point is is fair and worth it. We are always lucky to get Colt as our waiter and he always has a smile and works his tail off. I love the option of mushroom tacos for those nights, when living in meat country , is refreshing! We're new to Bastrop and are very happy to have discovered this place! We're a wonderfully-mixed family (gringo/latino) who's glad to know that there's an authentic, well-established Mexican restaurant that stands above the norm. Located next to a nice Mercado (Jalisco), this nice-sized restaurant (two stories, full bar on each floor, additional patio seating in both floors) does a good deal of business. We've only been for the Sunday buffet so far, which includes fajitas, a number of caldos (loved the pozole!), ceviche (two types), table-side salsa of any spice level, and a variety of entrees, sides and desserts. But we'll be back for the weeknight or Saturday experience to try their molcajetes and more fajitas. read more

First visit to Bastrop location. Definitely recommend. Chips salsa and bean dip to start. Outdoor patio felt very safe spaced out tables 3 pm Sat May 6. Scenic location with waterfall and stream hiding traffic noise. Fans keep shaded patio cool. Delicious shrimp with garlic sauce mushroom zucchini and rice. Sweet orange garnish. Mojito tasty with spicy rim and fresh lime. Hubs shrimp ceviche mango with sliced avocado very good with Diet Pepsi. Daughter enjoyed Mexican Coke and chicken fajita nachos with tasty guacamole and NO jalapeño xtra star for that. Moderate prices ($70). Definitely will be back for another celebration. read more

My dude Dallas & I stopped in here for a meal after a 5 hour kayak trip down the nearby Colorado River. Woo! I was glad I picked this place because it was damn good! Dallas wanted to have fajitas for 2, and they were fresh and delicious. They even make the salsa fresh right in front of you, which was a first for me. We went last night for a birthday dinner with my parents (who go here all the time) - I'd heard good things, but first time visit for us. I think this is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Bastrop!! They brought a cart to your table, where they custom make your salsa with add-ins to make it to your spice level which is pretty unique. I loved all of the great options: specifically lots of amazing seafood options! We ordered the Piña de la Costa which was loaded with shrimp, fish and octopus, peppers, mushrooms, served in a carved out pineapple, topped with broiled Oaxaca cheese. We ordered a side of tortillas and went to town. Friendly staff, delicious food, the margs were on point too! Definitely coming back so I can try all the other amazing dishes (plus I see they have HH)... ;) read more

My husband and I came here for lunch. We got the lunch buffet and it didn't disappoint! They had fajitas, tortillas, rice, beans, chicken enchiladas and cheese enchiladas. I couldn't stop eating the chicken enchiladas. I've never had chicken enchiladas that were that good. I can't wait to come back and eat them again.
