***GLUTEN FREE REVIEW*** On my Gluten Free journey to find new places to enjoy, I came across suggestions for Casa Cosenza. I read that the Chef is the wife/owner and the husband/owner runs front of house. I read they offered GF bread, pasta and other options. We went in right after they opened for the evening at 5:30pm. There was a couple at the bar and 5 gentlemen at a table. The ambiance and decor is nice and comfortable. There's a full bar. As we sat a young man brought water and menus right away, then brought a bread plate. I asked if he could bring GF bread. He returned and let me know there was none available. Not a big deal. The owner greeted us and I asked about the menu. On Yelp a menu shows clearly marked GF options, but none were on this revised menu. It did have a notation that GF options were available upon request. He said to just pick what I like and he'll see if it can be GF. I'll be honest, I "think" the server(s) must have called in sick because it was just the owner and the young kid, and the owner seemed very disorganized about serving and it wasnt even busy yet. It took a good 10-15 minutes until he was able to make his way back to us to order wine and a cocktail. His response to hubby's cocktail was that he's not a bartender and cant make a Moscow Mule. I asked if he had GingerBeer (I would walk him through it) but he said no. Hubby drank water, I had a glass of Pinot Noir. I knew things like Lasagne, Ravioli, etc could not be made GF, but the 3 plain pasta options weren't appealing to me. So I asked about the Eggplant appetizer and could it be made a dinner. He said he could make it dinner sized. Sounds good! Hubby got the Veal Scallopini Marsala. It does take awhile to get the food but you are forewarned that everything is fresh and made to order, so we were ok with the wait. My eggplant and sauce had a delicious flavor! However, the portion was small...either they forgot to make it larger (but charged me for it) or it just wasnt sufficient. Sadly, I left hungry. Worse, it was also COLD. I was so surprised! It was so cold that the Mozzarella Cheese was hardened on the inside. And speaking of hard....both hubby and my potatoes were hard and undercooked so we couldnt eat them. The veggies were good, but I also couldnt eat the chewy round parmesan crisps. Husband's Meal was decent, he said the sauce was delicious, but the veal was a bit tough, and again, his potatoes were undercooked and couldnt eat them. So to sum up, service was a bit disorganized and a tad slow (but I really do think someone called in as there was no server or bartender), the food was cold and small portions, BUT.....the flavor was really good! It is a bit of a disappointment to leave a restaurant hungry and paying $80 for a meal. Reading all the excellent reviews I think we just caught them on an off night. My suggestion, take your chances, it is a charming restaurant and the flavor of the food is really good--just try to catch them on a good night! It is a pretty restaurant and the service is pleasant and efficient. Unfortunately the food just isn't very good. For starters we had the stuffed zucchini blossom appetizer and the bruschetta from the menu. The zucchini blossom was literally fried to a crisp and had no filling to speak of. It was so obviously a problem yet they brought it out anyway. I was a guest for this dinner and not paying so I did not say anything to be polite to the host who picked this restaurant. The bruschetta was so incredibly pedestrian a toddler could have made it. It included Lindsey type canned olives with the chopped tomatoes and no good olive oil or even fresh garlic detected. Main dishes were not much better. I had the seafood risotto and it was literally rice with a creamy tomato vodka sauce poured over it and baked with a very meager portion of mussels, clams, shrimp, and a single bite size piece of salmon thrown in. This was $33. Their prices are upscale but their food is food court quality. I wish I was exaggerating because it is a cute inside and they were very nice, but I go out for good food above all. The 4.1 overall score is probably too low, but I just wanted to report our experience last Saturday nite. When the waiter tells you the specials, it should be part of the process that he tells you the prices also. I asked, and one of the dinner specials was sea bass and was $60. We thought we'd try it anyway and it was excellent like almost everything there. The wine pours were a bit skimpy also. There are sort of two categories of restaurants: 1) chef cooking and 2) not. Me and my husband ate here for our first time recently on a Saturday night and had a great experience. Griffin was our server and he was attentive, knowledgeable and gave great suggestions. The atmosphere was modern chic and there was a talented pianist playing during our experience. Well another great place we found in a strip mall. First time there and left with nothing but good things to say. The place is tastefully done and tables are not jammed together. We came here as we were craving Italian food and a martini. The location is a bit misleading as you enter the strip mall, this place is tucked away in an odd location for an Italian restaurant. The owner is awesome, he greets, waits tables, checks on everyone, and is very friendly. It also helps that he appears to be from Italy :) The space inside is a bit strange, very open. Overall the food and service was great. We ordered a few apps and entrees and everything was fantastic from a quality/taste perspective. The prices are also quite low for quality Italian food. Service was top notch from start to finish. We enjoyed the house salad, veal marsala (very tender, yummy sauce & the homemade pasta was to die for), Filet w/Barolo sauce & mushrooms (delish), espresso, & a shot. So this is our second visit to this awesome little spot and boy were we blown away! The service by Sparky was fabulous, they made an off the menu item for me (that's how I know I'm in Italy) , and the food was to die for. I wanted to love Casa Cosenza but it just fell flat for us :( The staff were incredible - friendly, attentive, knowledgeable. They kept the glasses full, checked on us often and were quick to answer any questions we had. The location is in a strip mall off Forest Lakes and Tampa Rd which I know for some may be off putting but I know some of the best tasting food comes from places like these. To start they give you some bread and butter (I think it was butter? It may have been a cheese spread) with some bread stick like things. None of it was very good. Then we started with the Tagliere Amalfi (it's a charcuterie board) and it was pretty good but small for the price ($16). It came with three meats - mortadella, cappicola, prosciutto and three cheeses - asiago, provolone and I can't remember the last. There was only like 3 pieces of each and then there was a tiny tiny bit of jam and some honey. Luckily we saved some bread otherwise we wouldn't have anything to have it with. For dinner we had one of the specials - a truffle ravioli which was great if you realllly like truffles but it was also very expensive. We also had the Pollo Piccata and the chicken was a very strange and unappetizing texture, it was almost gummy. The last main was the Ravioli del Giorno with red sauce and it was not great, tasted of pesto maybe? it was just not very tasty and for $20 ravioli I expected more. For dessert we shared the Tiramisu which was very good and the Profiteroles which were really disappointing. They were spongy, kind of stale tasting and filled with a very little amount of unsweetened cream, then topped with a chocolate icing of sorts that was extremely bitter. All in all, we loved the staff and the ambiance but the prices and food were not worth it. read more

Disappointed. Made reservations a week in advance to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our table was next to a large party of 30+. Needless to say it was very loud and noisy- not romantic. The service was good and so was the food- good not great. The highlight was the lemon cello. Everything else was just ok- sorry perhaps our taste buds were impacted by the loud noise from the huge party next to us. Gem of a place that I'm glad it's been around for a while. I was afraid that this was a new place that could go out of business. On Saturday, they served the dinner menu at lunch, so I'm guessing the lunch menu is reserved for the weekday. I'm glad because I was planning to order a dinner dish. Thanks to Yelpers, I knew to try the meatloaf. Super random, but it got glowing reviews. Add this one to it because I adored the meatloaf. It has a slightly sweet, pistachio flavor. I will get it every time. It's on the more dense side. This is not your mama's meatloaf. I also got the Tagliatelle Italia. I was a little disappointed with the pasta. I know it was made in house so I expected it to be exceptional. It was good, but it didn't taste as fresh as other homemade pasta I've tried. We started with the Bruschetta Della Casa and they had a special appetizer of burrata. Both were amazing. The tomatoes in the bruschetta are fresh and juicy. I highly recommend the bruschetta. It was a beautiful atmosphere with a gentlemen playing piano but not so loud that we couldn't talk. All of our meals were absolutely delicious, the desserts were also wonderful. What a find!! I found this wonderful piece of Roma in Oldsmar! The food was amazing. My Italian husband was pleasantly surprised, and he's the picky one. The bruschetta was the best thing we ate, but the bed of arugula was old and dried out. The fettuccini primavera arrived and was so beautifully plated. However, the flavor was really, truly awful. Very Nice! It was a Saturday night and pretty busy. We had a reservation and received a nice table. The place is charmingly decorated and quite comfortable. A pianist was playing--enjoyable and not too loud. The servers were all very capable and friendly. My Negroni cocktail was nice, but a bit high-priced. My only disappointment was with the list of wines by the glass. Prices were reasonable, but the quality of the chosen wines wasn't as high as it should be. For food we started with the Parmigiana Melanzane appetizer. It was delicious. The marinara sauce was excellent. The Caesar salad was a bit skimpy in size, but nice. We had a Lasagna Napoletana which was very good and a Pollo all Boscaiola that was quite delicious. The chicken dish came with some very nice green beans. We've been eyeballing Casa Cosenza for years, but we never pulled the trigger. In the midst of this COVID-19 quarantine, I'm so glad we did. My wife and I recently celebrated our 5th anniversary. We settled on Italian food as we went to Italy for two weeks before we were married, but the trip was a family trip with my future in-laws and simply being there was an implication of "I Do." While in Italy, we had our minds BLOWN by just how fresh, real, and superb every meal was. Reliving that trip while unable to travel was quite the fun trip down memory lane but left us with a terrible craving for cibo italiano. Casa Cosenza is DEFINITELY authentic, and with a little vino rosso.... unbelievably delectable. We started off with the Bruschetta Napoli. It is a little boat of pastry with fresh mozz and tomatoes. Super fresh, and was still crispy even after the trek back home in a to-go dish. My wife had the Gnocchi Sorrento. I'd be lying if I said I didn't steal a few of those heavenly nuggets in sauce from her plate. The sauce was excellent and I haven't had gnocchi prepared that well since.... well, being in Italy! (I know, you're probably thinking, "congrats on having been to Italy, dude.." but honestly? It helps with being locked in the house to talk about it.) I had the Tagliatelle Italia. When I tell you the pasta was FRESH, I'm telling you it was fresh! There's a whole different texture experience when eating a noodle that was prepared recently versus something that's been desiccated in a box after having been made in a sterile factory somewhere. The service was wonderful even given the circumstances. I called initially to place my order, only to reach the answering machine. However, I got a call back within minutes. What restaurant has EVER called you back?! I've never experienced that before. When I arrived, he was literally running to and fro to prepare, bag, and fill orders all while taking calls.
