I honestly don't think Martin's deserves a rating below 4 stars, so I'm happy to give them five. The renovation completely surprised us. The space has been beautifully updated and now feels contemporary, romantic, and much more like an upscale dining destination. The new bar is especially inviting, and I can easily see my husband and me stopping in just for drinks and happy hour. Speaking of happy hour--it was one of the highlights of our visit. The appetizer and drink selection is excellent, and even the house Chardonnay (which I almost never order) was surprisingly delicious. Our favorite dishes were the pizza, which was exceptional, the burrata salad, and the artichoke appetizer. All three were standouts and are absolutely worth ordering again. We split the Bolognese. While it was enjoyable, it tasted more like a classic spaghetti and meat sauce than the rich, slow-cooked ragù I typically expect from a traditional Bolognese. It wasn't bad by any means--I simply think this is one recipe that could be elevated to match the quality of everything else we had. I also want to give a special thank-you to our server, Michael. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely helped make our evening enjoyable. Great service always makes a difference, and he did an excellent job. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back. If you've been hesitant because of the overall rating, I'd encourage you to give Martin's a try. We decided to try this Italian restaurant tonight for our monthaversary. It was great! It has the same set up as the previous restaurant but decorated differently and nicely. We made reservations and were seated right away. Chris was our waiter and took great care of us! Attentive and nice. I got a glass of wine and the bread and olive oil was brought over. Warm, toasty bread and delicious olive oil / vinegar mix. I ordered the carbonara and it was a creamy meal, very tasty and delicious. My husband had the braised lamb shank and he loved it! It was served in a bed of risotto with collard greens in an au jus sauce. He could have eaten that by itself! The lamb was perfectly cooked and tasty. We definitely recommend! read more

Kind of an odd experience here on Labor Day night, that I think is worth noting. Stopped in and set up at the bar for drinks and dinner. We're served by a friendly and capable bartender named AJ. My wife ordered chicken Parmesan, which was prepared perfectly and tasted great paired alongside some angel hair pasta. She highly recommends I ordered rigatoni with a Bolognese sauce. I love bigger noodles like rigatoni and manicotti, who am I kidding? I like thin noodles like Angel hair as well. Apparently they were out of rigatoni pasta. That's somewhat acceptable and understandable, but rather than letting me know that they simply served the dish with spiral noodles similar to what you might find in chili. In fact when the dish arrived, that's exactly what it looked like. - a bowl of chili. The Bolognese was actually excellent, I really enjoyed it and Overall the food and the bread along with the service were very good. Just an odd combination of pasta and sauce, and I guess what I really didn't care for was Martin's not simply telling me ahead of time that they were out of rigatoni, the dish I ordered, and then giving me the choice of pastas to pair with that sauce. i'll go again, order the same dish again and update this review. The service was good. The ambiance was ok but for the schizophrenic mix of music that ranged from Sinatra to Disco to 80s pop. Pick a genre (Sinatra is good for an old school Italian restaurant). The portions were fine, but the food was average. The chicken in my chicken parm was a bit rubbery, likely from being overcooked. The sauce was very tasty. The salad was the star. Been here a couple times and the food is inconsistent. For a fine dining restaurant I just expect a little better quality. The plating is gorgeous but the flavors aren't quite there. The meatballs are decent. The beef tartar had so much vinegar on the plate. Artichokes aren't worth the price. The espresso martini however, it's amazing. They use actual espresso so it has that's true coffee flavor and it really packs a pinch. If I go again, it would just be for drinks. read more

We made our reservation through Resy and noted a Halal dietary restriction. Unfortunately, it appeared this was interpreted only as "no pork." Two of the dishes we ordered were prepared with wine, despite our dietary restriction. When we asked our server, they weren't sure whether wine had been used and had to check with the kitchen. Ironically, the use of wine was clearly listed in the menu description, so the staff should have known. What was most disappointing was how the situation was handled. We were told that "the alcohol evaporates during cooking," which misses the point of the dietary restriction. We even overheard the another staff member asking the server what the issue was with the wine, suggesting there was a lack of understanding among the staff. At the end of the meal, I found myself explaining the difference between Halal and Kosher dietary requirements to our server. To the restaurant's credit, they did remake the affected dishes. However, the replacement meals took additional time, disrupted the dining experience, and the original mistake was never acknowledged in a meaningful way. Nothing was comped or otherwise offered despite the error originating from the restaurant. Dietary restrictions should be treated seriously, and staff should be trained to understand them rather than make assumptions. This experience left us disappointed, not because mistakes can't happen, but because of how the mistake was handled. read more

I had really high hopes for Martins, but it was just meh. We tried to engage our waitress for recommendations, but she had none and seemed confused by the request. Since it was our first time here, we ordered a little bit of everything: Grilled Octopus, Cacio De Pepe, Burrata Salad, Pesto Salmon, and Chicken Parmesan. Best dish was the grilled octopus - pasta was near flavorless (salt please!), the burrata salad was more arugula than anything and not dressed and sadly our mains weren't better. The neighbor ladies' night out to Martin's, hoping for an experience different from the lingering Salt Rock sporty spirit, did not materialize. Ladies were picky eaters. "There is no crab meat in my Crab ala Vodka." One neighbor complained. She very much looked forward to trying the dish with elevated expectations. It seemed none of our ladies were satisfied with their orders. Service was slow on Friday night. Waiters kept delivering other tables' food to us. The seating section at the back of the restaurant was cramped, crowded, and loud. There was no way to carry on a conversation among ladies. Instead, we yelled at each other like a bunch of vicious Real Housewives of Miami. It's kind of funny. I had grilled octopus with a glass of Prosecco. Although the octopus was on the salty side and the glass holding the wine was tiny, I still enjoyed the atmosphere Martin had offered. I am comfortable dining in a more refined restaurant where I can dress up a little and be a fabulous chic. The restaurant had just opened. I'd give her some time to get organized. And I hope I can raise the stars higher. After all, it is hard to run a restaurant in the current economy. As an Oldsmar resident, I am happy to have Martin be a part of the community. Came in late on a Friday for dinner, it was about an hour to close and was fairly empty so I was seated right away. I had the meat and cheese plate to start and my friend ordered the crispy eggplant app -- I'm not big on eggplant but they loved it, the meat and cheese board came with a very generous portion of prosciutto, spicy salami, some very good parm, a little bit of blue cheese (or something in that family) and some other little bits (honey, jam, olives, crackers) I didn't care for the oil and balsamic they serve with the standard bread but it was nice and warm and soft. I had the bolognese for my main and it was very good! I also had a bite of my friends carbonara which was just okay and the chicken pesto pizza which was good. I'd definitely try the pepperoni pizza if I don't just stick with the bolognese on future visits. We first tried Martin's May 10th for a celebratory birthday dinner. We had made a reservation and were very glad that we had done so because this place is hopping after only a few weeks of being open. The location has been many things however I feel this time we have a keeper in Oldsmar for great Italian food with a vibe of dining at your friends' home and the cost will not set you back hundreds of dollars for a party of three. Chef Michael Buttacavoli has been around the Tampa culinary scene for a long while and shares his love of Italian cuisine with his team in the kitchen as well as the guests walking in. (Remember, Chef Butta beat Bobby Flay in a Throwdown Episode of the Food Network with Chef Butta's meatball sub!) We of course ordered the meatball appetizer and they do not disappoint. EVER! The crispy eggplant is something our son insisted he would not have any of because he does not eat eggplant but we almost had to order an additional one because he enjoyed it so much. We opted to order our entrees instead of more appetizers and my Branzini was absolutely delicious and one of the best I have had in a long while. Both my husband and son ordered the chicken parmesan and loved the angel hair pasta that accompanied the dish. They remarked about the perfect texture of the pasta as it complimented the chicken parmesan. We all were pleased that the bread service is not an extra charge at Martin's and our server Mike brought just the right amount of bread for the three of us without it being too much. There was a dessert feature that evening of some chocolate decadence that was going on all over the plate. Have been 3 times for drinks/lite bites and the only thing that has been fantastic and consistent each visit was the espresso martini. First visit had a pizza, was heavy and not great flavor. Second, was the meatballs. Like others said just ok. Not much flavor and a bit pricey. Third, wanted the lobster dessert, they didn't have at 7:30 on a Saturday. Switched to an app, the artichokes after seeing the pictures. The ones we got looked nothing like the picture, very disappointing. Calamari was a hit! Ordered 2 bread puddings, absolutely delish but the portion size between the 2 was way off. One was huge while the other was half the size. We went to Martin's on a Monday. There were four of us to be served. The first thing I noticed was that the establishment was comfortable much like one would experience in a restaurant in Italy. The servers, hosts and even the chef moved about the restaurant purposefully but also in a nice and relaxed manner. All the customers seated around us seemed to enjoy the ambiance. You need something? Be sure to ask, but don't worry, someone will check in on you. We had a host, two servers, the owner, and the chef all come by the table multiple times, while most of the tables were full. They all seemed friendly and ready to get anything you wanted. Ask the server about the blend red wine. The one we had was smoooooooth. We ordered two appetizers: Chef Mike's famous meatballs and equally delicious crispy eggplant. I highly recommend both. The meatballs have a little kick but with the sauce and the dollop of ricotta, if you take a moment to savor what you're eating, you'll taste all the flavors. The same can be said about the crispy eggplant which we politely all fought over getting one more bite of. Order the eggplant! The bread service came out just in time to dip the bread in the sauce with the meatball. Oh my! For dinner, we had Chicken Parmesan (awesome), the onion and mushroom risotto which was flavorful but would definitely benefit from some crispy pancetta (unless they were going for a vegetarian dish), Roman carbonara which was so rich and creamy with the salt from the guanciale which was perfectly crispy, and the pepperoni pizza with perhaps the best crust and cheese cook. Man, I'm dying here just writing this. So good! For dessert, we had tiramisu and carrot cake. The playful tiramisu is possibly the best I've ever had anywhere! The carrot cake was more subtle, but if you like almond and caramel, you won't be disappointed. Finally Chef Mike brought out a dessert he was experimenting with that had devil's food cake, whipped cream, cannoli, and ice cream... yummmm. I hope this becomes a regular part of the menu. All in all, we got so much great food for the money, a nice laidback time, with friendly staff, and no one rushing us out... the perfect experience! read more

Understanding this place recently opened, this review is in the hope the owner/manager will recognize where improvement needs to take place. Went a Tuesday night, not really crowded, but service was slow but friendly. Now the food, app was 4 small meatballs and a dollop of ricotta, $17. Nothing special mainly because the meatballs did not seem to be homemade. Wife had the chicken parm, nice size portion but the sauce was bland/tasteless. Now the real problem, knowing it was a new place I usually order something simple. Since I had the meatballs I ordered the next simplest Pasta Carbonara. While the pasta seemed fresh, the cream was just bad but the real shame was the Guanciale gave itself up for this. The Guanciale is supposed to be rendered and almost crispy. What was on the plate was barely cooked and uneatable. Usually when you make reservations and tell it's the wife birthday the comp her dessert. They acknowledged her birthday when we arrived. She ordered carrot cake which like everything else was bland. Get the check, carrot cake $12. Again I understand it's a new place and hopefully they start doing better quality control, there's too many other choices out there. read more
