I called to reserve my tres leches cake and when I arrived it was already sold out. I was in line for over 30 minutes expecting my cake since I called ahead to make sure they had it. They ended up selling my cake. I was already a having a bad day but this just put the cherry on top. The customer service was horrible, person comes out the door rudely saying we are closed when I already waited 30 minutes in line then I proceed to tell her that I had a cake reserved for me but then tells me they are all sold out. I drove all the way for from San Jose for this cake, it was for my birthday. I have never felt so devastated in my life that I just started to cry. How they treated me was just so rude from the beginning. Holidays are approaching soon I just recommend training folks to be a little nicer. I love casa so much since I was an undergrad in Berkeley that I come every year to celebrate with a cake. I won't continue this tradition any more. read more

Hand crafted chocolates are totally worth the hype. It's a very small place but when you enter you will be transported into a magical place. You're greeted with a warm welcome and bright smiles. I selected the best seller box but I was able to customize it by swapping some of the flavors. All of the chocolates here are beautiful and they taste amazing. To me they look like jewelry! Almost too pretty too eat. When you do a yelp check in, you get one free chocolate. I decided to go for the tequila flavor. Which is the butterfly design. My boyfriend purchased a Mango flavor for us to try too. Both were delicious in their own way. I really love that you could taste the tequila in the chocolate and the mango was pure heaven. When we gifted the best seller box to out friends they were very happy and in awe of the chocolates designs. These make the perfect gift. You can pick your own ribbon color and select between 6,12, or 24 pieces as well. They also have special collections depending on the month. So make sure to check the out too. So glad I finally got to try this place! I pass by this street multiple times and never knew it existed until a co-passenger in one of my Uber rides raved about how great the Tres Leches Cake and Frozen Mexican Hot Chocolate was; of course, I had to come and see for myself. Came in on a sunny and warm afternoon and immediately noticed the wide variety of different chocolates. I ended up getting what I came for (a "mini"-sized Tres Leches Cake and a Frozen Mexican Hot Chocolate with Whipped Cream), and saw some Mexican Wedding Cookies/Polvoron in the display case - ended up grabbing one of those, too. There's luckily seating outside, where you can enjoy your items. The Frozen Mexican Hot Chocolate was SO satisfying for a warm day, and was not too thick and just the right amount of sweet. They don't use generic canned whipped cream, and put homemade whipped cream on top (which was delicious). The Tres Leches Cake was amazing; perfectly moist, and a huge portion. Even the polvoron was very good and fresh. We even sampled some of their dark chocolate at the counter, and that was great, too. No doubt all the items here are just as good! This place is one of my favorite places to visit in Berkeley. The frozen hot chocolate is amazing! I love how authentic they are in conserving the Mexican traditional flavors in their menu. Went here today because I'm on a business trip and I went for a stroll after work. The truffles look gorgeous, but a thumbprint-sized chocolate was way too overpriced, even with my company card, to take the plunge to try one. Everything is much too expensive so I settled for 3 1oz chocolate bars for $8. Peruvian Espresso - meh. Just tastes like coffee grounds on a semi sweet chocolate bar. Chile-Mango: no discernible mango or chili flavor. Brazilian Sea Salt: very tasty. I also like salty foods so maybe I'm just biased. The shop is nice and I love that they have e-mail receipts rather than paper ones, but unfortunately, I can't justify the price for another visit. P.S. these chocolates contain soy :'( read more

Came here for a special churro night. It was soooo good. I love how they specialize their chocolate. They are delicious and friendly. And if you bring back your box they give you a chocolate or reaccredit it for a certain amount of money. I love that idea! I saw the Casa De Chocolates sign advertising that they were listed in Travel + Leisure as one of the best chocolate places, and figured I might as well make a quick stop to check them out. The shop is really dimly lit inside, which I guess helps to keep the chocolates cooler? However, it was a bit hard to read the names of some of the items. I liked that they had samples of some of their chocolate bars, and I got to try a couple: -Pepitas Bar (61% Cacao Topped w/Agave Caramelized Pumpkin Seeds w/a Dash of Salt and Chile Flakes, $7 for 3oz): I think pepitas are just ok, so this chocolate bar didn't do much for me. I thought it was ok, but wouldn't spend $7 on it. -Chile Mango Bar (61% Cacao w/Dried Spicy Mango, $7 for 3oz): I actually enjoyed this chocolate bar a lot more than the pepitas, but couldn't see myself enjoying the spicy mango chocolate taste day after day. I still feel $7 is pricey for only 3 oz of chocolate. Erm. Mah. Gawd. They don't call it house of chocolates for nothing! I came here to get their tres leches cake for bae's birthday and also ended up grabbing a slice of the El Rey chocolate cake. I'll tell you right now, I'm a vanilla kind of girl. I generally dislike chocolate-based cakes, but one bite of their chocolate cake and I was HOOKED. It is like the cocoa gods descended onto my tongue and slow danced with each one of my tastebuds. Prom night in chocolate form! The tres leches cake was also yummy, but me and that dark chocolate just had a connection you know? The texture of the tres leches was slightly more gritty, kind of like oatmeal, but the flavors were there. It was sweet, creamy, and moist - worth the $5 and perfectly sized to share with bae. The chocolate cake could also be shared, but now that I know how divine it tastes, I probably won't. The chocolates on display were gorgeous pieces of art that most likely taste as beautiful as they appeared. Such a cool place in Berkeley/Rockridge area where you can pick up interesting and delicious Mexican style chocolates and desserts. The interior is small, but not overly crowded and the displays are always well kept and super organized. My guilty pleasure is definitely dropping in for their mexican frozen hot chocolate with whipped cream! It's super good without being too sweet or overwhelming and has just the right amount of kick. This place is also super easy to access by BART (aka get off at Rockridge BART and walk down the street) and by the AC transit bus system (51B if you're coming from South Berkeley) which makes it even more enticing. I have purchased chocolates and cakes from here, and everything is excellent. Tres Leches cake is my husband favorite, but not mine. Their version has made me a convert. The subtle cinnamon and not overly sweet milk pool it sits in is heavenly. We bought a 6 inch cake for my husband's birthday and it was the first time I have seem my 4 year old granddaughter polish off a whole serving of cake! I have also purchased their chocolate cake, also a winner, but you have to love dark chocolate to appreciate it.
