Janet had some fresh baked cookies and some lemon rosemary infused water ready for us at check-in. Janet was a welcoming hostess, both friendly and accommodating. She called to arrange a last minute reservation for us at a local restaurant the Friday evening of our arrival (a busy evening in the area), demonstrating what a close-knit, community the Fairplay/Somerset area is. She gave us some good tips on the local wineries, as well. The room was quiet and comfortable (comfy Cal King bed). The cabins have the creature comforts conveniences of home (a/c, mini-fridge, coffee maker) but are secluded on the rolling, tree lined hills. We enjoyed being mostly disconnected from the internet (Verizon LTE service was good but we limited our use). We relaxed, enjoying the scenery, hiking around the 146 acre property, wine tasting and enjoying the area attractions (Kennedy Mine, Downtown Placerville, a day trip to Lake Tahoe). There are many things to see and do in the area, but relaxing and enjoying the outdoors was the biggest part of the attraction to Seven-Up. It was like being with nature (but with a cozy room). Each morning we had coffee on the front porch of the cabin, listening to the birds sing, and each evening we retreated there for a bottle of wine watching the sun fade behind the trees and mountains. We did not want to leave. If you are looking for a low-key, quiet escape, close to nature, look no further than Seven-Up Guest Ranch. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are planning to return next summer.

It's about a 5 minute drive from downtown Placerville. When we arrived, we were greeted and given the tour. Our room had a little snack picnic basket, freshly cut flowers, and even a water dish for our dog. When we returned from town after dinner, they had left little chocolates and dog treats on the bed. We also were offered wine and a chocolate torte. This place is not a fru-fru high class establishment. It is a homey, comfortable place. I was comfortable, well-fed, well-looked after, and completely relaxed.

They serve a home-made pastry each morning that is different and had us swooning. My favorite was the Raspberry Crumble muffin that smelled like pure butter being held together with batter. My husband loved the praline filled bundt coffee cake. The owner has a real gift of an excellent palate and sense of texture. Each baked good was very moist in the middle, yet slightly crunchy on the outside. It's worth staying here just for her baking. On top of that, the included breakfasts are beautiful, and she's made the best hollandaise sauce we've ever had. We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite and didn't hear a peep from other guests, which is a real fete in some of these historic homes. The location is perfect, easily walkable to restaurants and shops. This place is a gem and I can't wait for our next visit.

The owner, Raven, greeted us. She was friendly, sweet and pleasant. We loved the rustic vibe of the motel and Raven's generosity in offering access to amenities at the motel. Unfortunately an issue developed before we finished checking in. We saw but did not occupy a small room. We discussed the issue with Raven and she was open, honest and mature. We ended up leaving without staying. Raven was good to her word and kept her promises. The issue isn't important. We wish Raven and her beautiful business well and appreciate the integrity she demonstrated.

We have friends in the process of building a house in the area…read more They graciously invited a group of people to enjoy the wonderful river and beautiful surroundings. We were invited to camp at the property but I am a princess and need amenities. Hubby found this cottage on the web. It exponentially exceeded my expectations. The one bedroom cottage has a full kitchen and backyard seating area. It is just lovely. The owner Nancy lives in the front house and her special touches are what impressed me the most. Before we arrived she sent a list of restaurants and wineries to visit. The cottage is stocked with treats, coffee, dishes, spices, magazines and nicely decorated. She provides far more than any other rental of it's type we have stayed at. It was so inviting and comfortable. My delight on entering reminded my of visits thankfully paid by my employer to the Four Seasons in Punta Mita, Mexico and The Rome Hilton on the hill. I am not comparing the amenities just the feeling of delight on having the opportunity to stay at an exceptional place. We could have paid $99 a night for 2 nights but stayed 1 night for $169. A great value. My highest recommendation.

I always say the most important thing in a hotel/b&b is the bed. Their king sized bed did not disappoint, it was very comfy and had awesome pillows. There were even little chocolates left on the nightstand. The best part about this place is the location - literally right next door to Perry Creek Winery (try their Zinman) and Windwalker (we like their Sierra Sunset wine). Make sure to pack carrots and apples because they have two beautiful horses you can feed in the early morning. If you are looking for something luxurious this isn't the place - but if you want privacy and relaxation it is perfect. I felt it was a bit overpriced at $179 (196 after taxes).. but I suppose thats because we booked for just one night and on a Saturday. Overall a good choice for anyone looking for a romantic weekend away.

We met inside where Bonnie checked us in real quick. Then we got a tour with Bill. He is sooo super friendly and kind. Just a genuinely nice host. Some people act nice but it is professionally cordial. I didn't feel that with Bill, or Bonnie. (Sorry don't mean to leave her out ) Bill gave us great recommendations for wineries and we were able to wine taste with fee waived at 2 wineries we visited. We also got discounts on wine! The places were so chill and relaxing. Beautiful, quiet, relaxing, just what we wanted. I texted Bonnie a few times and she always got back to me super fast. Bonnie also is a wonderful baker and she made a super nice breakfast each day. Bill would refill your OJ and tell you to have a seat as he got coffee refills. When Bonnie was done cooking she came out and then I got to pick her brain about our meals. I love talking food . She was really nice as well and easy to talk to. They are literally around the corner from Abels Farms and are right in the heart of apple hill. Both wineries were no more than a mile away. Rooms are decorated very cute, with different themed rooms. All the amenities are there. Robes and slippers in the closet, a hot tub in a gazebo, and the room was nicely renovated with quality materials used. Super great stay and I recommend them highly.

My husband and I have been to the Green Toad Inn twice now - both times were for accommodations…read moreduring a whitewater rafting trip on the American River. I cannot recommend this B&B enough. The food is unsurpassed, the rooms are beautifully appointed, the beds are comfortable, the grounds are lovely and the location is convenient. THE FOOD: The first morning you will be served the most delectable french toast of your life, along with scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon. The second morning will likely be a spinach and egg quiche with graham cracker puff pancakes, apple cake and shoo-fly pie. Each breakfast begins with a parfait of fresh fruit, yogurt and granola. Accompanying each meal is also orange juice, grapefruit juice, coffee, tea, home-made oatmeal, and a long list of other thoughtful accouterments. Oh, and the best part...eating on the deck while you look out over the sweeping lawn and listen to the various water features and birds chirping. You sit there, immersed in the majestic pine forest that surrounds the house and think, IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS! As an aside, the inn-keeper also baked us fresh cookies and left them out for us when we returned from our rafting trip. THE ROOMS: The rooms and the home are plush and beautifully appointed. Most have private baths, but if you are in a room that doesn't have its own shower, don't worry. There are plenty of washrooms throughout the house and you never have the feeling of being hemmed in or crowded by any other guests. I have stayed in both The Toad Abode and The Nest and both were outfitted with robes, slippers, ample towels, water bottles, chocolates, a hair dryer, shampoo,etc. The room you choose to stay in will determine whether you spend more time on the deck or in the interior of the home. Both are spectacular and by no means exclusive. However, some rooms open onto decks and others open to the inside of the home. Whichever you choose, you can't go wrong. THE GROUNDS: With over a hundred acres (with trails), a pond, a natural spring and towering pines, the grounds beckon to be explored. If you're not a natural-born hiker, the grounds can be enjoyed from the multiple levels of decking that "bedeck" the house. In the evenings, there is nothing more inviting than donning a swimsuit, robe and slippers and heading out to the hot tub for a dip. Grab a bottle of water or soda from the fully-stocked guest fridge and a homemade cookie and you're set. THE LOCATION: The B&B is about 15 minutes outside of town, but that is in no way a downside because of the privacy it affords. Honestly, you will feel like you are on top of the world.

So disappointed! Family came to town for the weekend and I recommended what I thought to be a nice…read moreplace to stay. She requested cash or check only and cash was given. After one night they had to check out! Cobwebs and spiders everywhere including all over the floral arrangement which hung directly above their heads. They checked out the next morning she came to the room offered to fumigate which was unacceptable because residing in a place immediately after fumigation is not recommended health-wise. She then proceeded to keep two nights stay and only refund the rest. This is not good customer service and is not acceptable. Not a place I would recommend for guests to stay in Placerville. There are many other options with higher standards of quality than this. Enjoy the picture of what was above their heads while they attempted to sleep all night.
