A must when we come to the valley is a botana. For many years we had been going to this nearby restaurant for our mandatory botana when in the valley. Today I felt like trying something different, new and found this restaurant on yelp. It's nothing fancy in fact they have white Costco chairs but the staff is very attentive and the food was delicious. The beef was quite tender and the rice according to my wife, who does not like Mexican rice per se, said it was one of the best she's had in a long time. We ordered the botana for one at $18.95 and it could have on honestly fed four moderate eating people. We stuffed ourselves and barely finished half of it. The great thing about coming to the valley is that you can find all kinds of restaurants. There are Mexican restaurants or Mexican restaurants or if you want something else you can always have Mexican restaurants. So if you're looking for one of those unique Mexican restaurants in the valley I do recommend this place. read more

Our single visit was interesting and definitely fun. Service was quite good given that we were there on a Saturday evening. We enjoyed the boisterous mariachi band as it really got the whole place moving. Our problem was with the food. We are not accustomed to such greasy food. Portions are beyond ridiculously oversized as our platter was enough to feed an army and most of it had to be brought home. The cost was rather high. But talk about fattening! This food may go down easily enough if you're starving but you won't want to get on the scale for a month...everything was dripping with oil and cheese, not a lot of beef or chicken. Casa de Mariscos in Weslaco is a great option if you feel like having great tasting Mexican-American food. I've always had their botanas, which are awesome by the way, but wanted to try something different. I ordered the #38 which is the Jalisco Plate. Comes with Carne Guisada, Beans, Rice, Salad, 1 Enchilada, Tortillas and a Caldo de Pollo appetizer...all for around $12. At the time of ordering, I thought the prices were a bit up there, comparing to other restaurant of similar style. But when my plate came out........I was totally Impressed. The portion is huge! My wife and I could have shared the plate and been satisfied. I was very satisfied with the taste, service and pricing of this restaurant. Had the Sopa de mariscos. Good but not wow Place is small but clean and nice looking. Chips and salsas are homemade and tasty. Menu is very extensive. One strike is they don't offer tap water. Our first trip for dinner last night at this restaurant was a treat. We ordered the mari terra which was very good. A giant platter, half chips with cheese beef and half french fries with fish, shrimp, and stuffed crab. It was delicious but we need 3 meals to finish it. This is my favorite place for happy occasions. The waiters always remember me, and they dress like butlers, and always give excellent service. Free chips and good salsa. Some meals come with free marisco... delicious fish soup. Botanas for two serves about six, it's like a gigantic nachos. Our group usually orders the catfish, and pieces are as big as the plate, with excellent French fries or rice, Texas toast, and a nice crisp salad. I like the chicken tacos, and eat one as a taco, and open the others to make a BIG chicken salad with the rice and beans all mixed in, along with a tub or two of their taco salsa. We are always the only gringos in the place. Service is fast, considering how many people are there. Parking is a bit tricky out front, but one can park on the side street at the curb, or at Salazar's across the street, which is a converted drive-in, where the honkies/gringos tend to eat. It's not as fancy, tho. I am a gringa, by the way. I tend to show up before or after the rush crowds, and always get timely service. The restaurant is BIG. They have take-out parking and service. Salud! PS My other favorite restaurant is Monterrey, on Texas. ********* 5-20-2015 Ate their today, and everyone loved their meals! Best fajita botana in the RGV! This savory cuts of meat are perfect and are like butter in your mouth. I am a regular here and I can guarantee I've tried everything in the menu. But it's not all that past the botanas and seafood. Mexican dishes I believe could be a bit more out there than just food I can cook at home. The flavors aren't all there when it comes to enchiladas and rice. Ceviche is top along with the sopas that they offer you before your food. Overall I'd give this place a strong 7.9/10 read more

Went for dinner, short and to the point.. Not impressed.. no too sure what the hype is about. 1/4/21 - Tried Mariscada for 2 based on several good reviews but was thoroughly disappointed. Other than the portions being Texas size, everything else was very disappointing. Fish and shrimp tasted very old, possibly in freezer for way past the use-by date. Or maybe it was farm raised fish. But you could taste the oldness in it. Crab cakes (qty 2) were ehhhh. It comes with a consome (sample fish soup) which also used the same old fish in it. Fountain drinks were $3.79/ea which seemed a little much, at least to my liking. $60 later I walked out filled up, but with tasteless food in my stomach. Can't recommend this place. read more

I've been going to Casa De Mariscos for about 10 years at least. Maybe more, and they are always courteous, attentive, reasonably prompt with the food. Oh and everything is of course delicious.
