I picked up a to go tres leches for 2-4 people, a larger size coconut alfajor and their regular alfajores (6 smaller ones). Tres leches - had some chocolate drizzled on it, which was new to me but the cake was good. Bordering on too sweet but the flavor was fantastic. Coconut alfajor - subtle coconut flavor more moist and chewy than I thought I would be. I liked it a lot. Regular alfajor - this was awesome. Again, I expected it to be the dry, crispy wedding cookie type cookie but as with the coconut, the soft texture gave way to a slightly moist, chewy cookie. My favorite desserts are tiramisu and baklava. That list just expanded by one - alfajores. It was the middle of the afternoon so there was no crowd, the place was clean and I'm assuming the owner was warm and friendly and answered my questions about alfajores. 100% will return. read more

I've loved their alfajores for years. They're always delicious, perfectly sweet, and melt in your mouth. But recently, their Rosca de Reyes totally wowed me! Soft, pillowy, and with just the right touch of sweetness, every bite felt like a little celebration in my mouth. This place has absolutely delicious birria tacos and consomé. This has been the only thing I've ordered from their menu (there's no other place I know of near me that serves these tacos) but I would also like to try their birria quesadillas. They're listed on the menu as "red tacos" and are about $15 for 3 tacos and the consomé is a separate extra cost. When it comes out fresh, the tacos are super cheesy and yummy. The building is very spacious and doesn't get too busy, so I always get to grab a table. In the middle of the restaurant, they display their desserts and pastries such as flan and alfajores. The restaurant is located in the Park and Shop surrounded by a lot of different Asian cuisines, dessert shops, and a grocery store. If you try parking close to the restaurant, that is the area that is the most congested, we always park in the back of the building. read more

I've been meaning to stop by and browse this bakery for awhiles now even though I only come to this area about once every few months. The inside is very big and spacious overall, I came in the afternoon and it was dead in there, so I'm thinking it's more for the breakfast crowd or even early evening due to the coffee:drinks and baked goods. Anyways it took a few minutes for the baker or cashier to come out from the back, he seemed very helpful and he pointed out to a few things and I asked if he had a strawberry version of a shortbread cookie deal, since they had a guava and pineapple ones. The cookies were a tad expensive imo, but it's a small business so it's within reason. At home the strawberry cookies were pretty good overall and if it's open and I'm in the area again, I'll see if something else catches my eye. read more

There's a fire new chef here that is bringing authentic Guadalajara and Jalisco style cooking to Concord and I highly recommend his menu. There are some amazing dishes with spices from Guadalajara and recipes that are inspired by the chef's grandmothers cooking and they were all so good. If Guy Fieri is living in Flavor Town, then this new spot called Izcalli is Flavor KINGDOM. They have Elote, Red Tacos, Birria, and Stir Fried Birria Noodles which own it's own was fire but add in some of that extra spice and it's even more amazing! I had a hard time deciding on what to get, so I basically got it all. For dessert, I had a yummy ice cream with a short bread cookie on the bottom and I need to have more! Delectable alfajores at your service! The name speaks for itself; this house of tasty Peruvian cookies is one that should not be overlooked. I stopped by to pick up a couple of alfajores and ended up staying for breakfast. How about that? The breakfast was scrum-diddily-umptious by the way. The interior is super spacious! I walked in and couldn't believe how roomy it was. They have a small bakery section where you can grab fresh bread and other pastries. On the other side of the bread are grab and go alfajores. When I walked up to the ordering counter, the sweet young man was very helpful in answering all of my questions. This is a family owned and operated business which is always nice to see around these parts. I noticed that they were offering some breakfast and lunch items, so I decided to try out a breakfast plate. I ordered their chilaquiles con mole, chai latte, and three of their alfajores (coconut, pecan, and powdered sugar). I asked for the breakfast to be made for there, but they accidentally made it for to-go. No biggie since it was still delish, but I really wanted to get a nice picture of it (you know us Yelpers be!). The chilaquiles were friggin' BOMB! They feature chicken mole, onions, sour cream, fresh avocado, beans, eggs, and tortilla chips. The chicken mole was rich and flavorful. They came covered in sour cream and super fresh avocado! YUM! Loved, looooved, LOVED their alfajores! They literally melted in my mouth after the first bite. My absolute favorite was their coconut one. I love coconut but usually avoid anything that has coconut shreds because I'm not a fan of the consistency. However, THAT baby was fantastic! Come to MAMA! Those coconut alfajores can get it all day, every day! Their chai tea was a huge miss, however. First off, it's powder based and it tasted like it didn't have any flavor whatsoever. I can't really fault them on this too much though since it's not really a "café" per se. I'm seriously craving some of their coconut alfajores now... damnit! Happened to be in the area so stopped by about 10am on a Tuesday. No one else was in there but that was good since I had to get back to work. I was greeted by the friendly cashier and asked he asked if I wanted a sample of their coconut alfajor - very delicious. Ended up buying 9 alfajores (coconut, regular, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate). The cholate ones cost more than regular and coconut. They also had a pecan and white chocolate alfajores options, they even had mini versions. All my coworkers enjoyed them and I was so happy to find a good place. This place is a must try!!! I was so excited when this place opened. Their alfajor cookies are very tasty, and freshly bake. They are soft and creamy like a butter cookie but better. They are not extremely sweet but with a lot of flavor. They also have other kind of cookies with white chocolate, milk chocolate, and more. We have tried several and they were all amazing (I couldn't pick my favorite.) I will definitely come back. They also have breakfast and this delicious sandwiches with home made bread. The Alfajores cookies are baked fresh and tasted like butter cookies but much better, it had a smooth and a light cream in the center which gives it a perfect combination and not to sweet. Having just finished my lunch, I was about to head off to get my customary boba after meal to appease my sweet tooth. But after thinking about it, I decided that I wanted something else to fulfill my sugar needs, and that's what brought me to Casa Del Alfajor, located in the Park & Shop, right next to the Goodwill Store, and Kansai. What used to be here was Bonjour, a Korean/French bakery which had a nice bread selection like those you'd find at Sheng Kee, or other Asian style bakeries, but on the pricier side, but hit or miss on the quality. The first time I saw that Casa Del Alfajor, I always thought it was just a replacement bakery with similar bread selections, and somewhat similar style of bakery. The decor of the place has not changed much (if any, really can't tell) from the location before, and it's still a large store, with some small tables that can sit a couple to a few people, but spacious, as you could probably fit another 7-8 tables there to fill up the empty space between the eating area and the bakery area. Again, very spacious, but that could be a good and a bad thing at times. The staff here are very friendly, and greet you when you come in, and also willing to come by and help out with selecting, and answer general questions. I can always appreciate good service. The bread selection here is not exactly what I thought it would be. They have a very limited bread selection, and it's just basic bread, no filling, not toppings, just standard. They do look delicious, but it's definitely not a place you would come to just for the bread, so keep that in mind. As a result of this, the shelves look very empty, and sort of adds on to the whole spacious thing this place has going on. But in the center between the breads on the wall and the counter, is what defines this place, and therein lies the cookies, or Alfajores, case, with the different assortment of the Alfajores in each case. The Alfajores comes in two sizes, with the pricing relatively scaled to their size, so it's more or less if you prefer a smaller cookie or a bigger one, and less about getting the most bang for your buck. There several different types of flavorings, and different types of creations for the same flavors. The Alfajores is mainly two cookies sandwiched together, with what I believe is caramel in the middle. Depending on which cookie you get, it might have chocolate on top, coconut, and something else I didn't pay too close attention to since I was mainly just focused on the chocolate at hand. I picked out four of the small Alfajores, two milk chocolate ones, and two dark chocolate ones. When I got home, gave each of the Alfajores a try. While the Alfajores were nice, the cookie parts have more of a cake like property, and break down flaky rather than crunchy. The texture of the chocolate on the outside were nice, and had that good glaze going, so worked out well with the whole cake like texture of the cookies. However, though the Alfajores weren't bad, I have to say, they're not really for me, at least not these ones. The main reason why is that they really are not sweet enough for my taste. If you are someone who likes your desserts on the sweeter side, then I must warn you now that these are not the cookies for you. It's not that they're bland, but just doesn't feel like there's enough sugar that went into the blend of the chocolate they use to glaze the cookies. Unfortunately for me, it did not quell the calling of my sweet tooth, and I had to supplement it with something else after. Again, the cookie itself was great, but the chocolate, and even the caramel inside, just nowhere near the sweetness I had hoped for, albeit, I may be a sugar snob, so may be best just to try it for yourself. This review was strictly for the Alfajores, and I will be back in the future to try out their entree menu. While it's not a very large menu, as it's more like a cafe spot, than a restaurant, but the menu items that they do have, and the pictures that I've seen people post on Yelp has certainly gotten me intrigued, and of course, a little hungry, so I look forward to when I come back for those next time. The service is great, and the people there are friendly, and seemed like a family operated, mom-and-pop feel of a place. While you wouldn't go there for the bread, I certainly recommend trying out their Alfajores, since the crumbling of the cookies when I took that first bite was pretty rewarding, even if the sweetness levels were not as so. read more

I stumbled upon this bakery and coffee shop after having dinner in Concord with family. We were looking for someplace to have coffee and luckily, Casa Del Alfajor's was open. The interior is very spacious with a lot of open room, plenty of seating and a wonderful display of their baked goods and kitchen. They offer baked breads and other Peruvian delicacies such as their Alfajores, a delicious cookie, reminiscent of a short bread cookie, with a dulce de leche filling and lined with shredded coconut, chocolate, or topped with pecans. They are also a full coffee bar serving coffee drinks from cappuccinos to drip coffee. The cappuccino I ordered with 2% milk and hazelnut was made very well and the coffee itself, brought in from a California roaster, was full bodied, rich, and overall very good. I am very happy to have stumbled into this little (not so little) bakery and cannot wait to go back. read more

A hidden gem! Right next to Kansai Sushi restaurant is this little shop, which from the sidewalk outside is hard to tell what it is. There's a sign visible from the parking lot that says "Bakery & Café" but you don't see that from the sidewalk. When you get up closer, you can see the windows say "Rico Pan Bakery" and "Bistro Artisan Bread" and it's hard to tell if they are even open. However, once you get inside, what a surprise! This is a beautiful and spacious café. It's not small either. (Check out the photos.) They have espresso drinks and wonderful cookies (and bread and ice cream). With Wi-Fi, one could easily sip coffee, eat cookies, and get some work done on the laptop. Our visit was made especially pleasant by the chef coming out and describing the different cookies in the case. We wanted to try them all, but controlled ourselves. He was most helpful and we would definitely return. I also got a latte to wash down my cookie and it was smoother than what you get from the big chain coffee shops. This place sprung up to take over the old Bonjour Korean bakery. I'm happy that this place is delicious as all hell! I remember specifically being bummed out that the bakery across the street from where I live when it was bonjour because I am a self professed baked sweets fiend. So far their selection is modest, especially for the size of the space, but I'm hoping this place prospers and adds more goodies to their repertoire. The quality is amazing and I was frankly shocked at how delicious the alfajores are. No, no-- I don't think you, dear reader, understands how incredible the cookies are. They are melt-in-your mouth silky with just the right amount of sweetness. They don't overdo the filling, but they don't skimp either. Also, the coffee is legit. I had the Salvadoran Santa Ana blend and I highly recommend. It's pretty smooth with a good, bold kick of flavor. They have soy and almond milk as non-dairy options, so bonus points for that. And I have to say that the customer service is epic. Oscar was behind the counter and offered us samples, which was a good idea because I was on the fence about the alfajores. Tiny mom-and-pop business in a cavernous space that is currently too big for them. Small, round metal bistro tables. Very friendly staff. I bought the Latin American version of alfajores. Rich fillings like dulce de leche are sandwiched between 2 shortbread type cookies. Got 2 each of the regular, chocolate, coconut and pecan flavors. TIP: Alfajores keep well in the refrigerator. Heat cookie for 10-15 seconds to soften the dulce de leche into ooey gooey deliciousness before consuming. Yummy cookie and bread samples but they need to expand their menu. Even better, post a menu so potential customers know what's available. At least 3 groups of people walked in and right back out while we were there. I myself didn't know they offered breakfast, salads and sandwiches until I looked them up on Yelp. But I wasn't tempted to order until the couple at the next table got 3 huge tortas. One, the hot sammie smelled divine. I had just eaten but my tummy was trying to convince me that it had room for more food. I am definitely coming back to try what looked similar to an Italian beef or a cheesesteak without the cheese. Shelves were pretty bare. Don't know if it was because of the holiday weekend. I went to check out new Bakery where Bon Jour used to be. According to Beyond the Creek, they recently opened. Cafe Del Alfajor looks the same inside but they have Cookies and coffee. I had ordered an iced coffee and a box of Coco Alfajor dulce leche cookies. The people who work there were nice and it seemed family owned and ran. They accidentally under charged me but they rectified the amount. They also gave me a free sample of the cookie and it was quite delicious. If you're unsure about the flavors, they offer taste samples and the gentleman working there was very helpful and knowledgeable (even to double check for allergens). He even gave suggestions about flavors and explained the different types of dipping techjiques. Instead of just trying little samples, I got 1 of each of the small cookie flavors to try out. MAN! I want to add another five star review because this place deserves more attention (and more business). This place is amazing. They have Alfajor, which just happens to be a delicious Latin treat (I have a co-worker from Spain -- I brought her some and I've never seen her so happy eating something). The barista, I think his name is Oscar (I'll have to ask next time), is the most welcoming, cordial, and helpful individual I've encountered in food service in a long while. He immediately noticed that I had no idea what I was doing and gave me the rundown on their process: you grab a tray, use the tongs to select which Alfajor you'd like, then bring it to the counter where you can order coffee and food. And oh boy the food!!! The tortas they have (I tried the barbacoa one) are phenomenal and though I am a total wimp with spicy foods the hot sauce added great flavor. The second time I visited I ordered an omelette and it was so good I ate the whole thing. Which isn't always a bad thing but there was so much on the plate I probably should have taken some home. I'm fairly picky regarding coffee, and the latte and macchiato I've tried there have both been life-savers while I study. My only feedback is that this place needs to get more seating -- it's a huge venue and there are only six small tables or so. And more visibility! You know the feeling of tasting something for the first time and all you want to do is sing even though you're out of tune?
