This place is spacious with a bakery wall of bins filled with fresh made bread rolls and their sweet cookies, a variety of different alfajors, butter cookies, etc. They offer sandwiches (including vegetarian) and salads as well. The avocado sandwich was served on their freshly made bread roll $8. A+ It was the best, freshest avocado sandwich ever! The bread was perfect...truly a winner and their alfajors (power sugar and coconut small size) were buttery and rich. I recommend this place for a great sandwich and their specialty cookies. They offer a hot sauce which enhanced my sandwich, but it does have a kick if you add too much (I enjoyed it though). This bakery is located within a plaza full of restaurants so this is a good place to stop for desserts. They make their own Spanish cookies-Alfajors and taste great. We (my husband, Chris and I) were greeted as soon as we walked in. We were asked if we had ever been there before and if we ever tried their Alfajor cookies. We told them no but we saw their yelp reviews and decided to stop in since we were in the area. We were automatically offered samples of the different types of cookies. They are actually short bread cookies so if you love shortbread, you will love these cookies. The plain ones were tasty, chocolate ones were good but a little too sweet for me-my nieces and nephew love them because they have chocolate inside the two cookies and around it. They also have another one that is shaped like a ball and it has coconut, has a similar taste to a coconut macaroon which is delish! We bought enough for 2 separate households and they had boxed our pastries according to each household. Service was perfect and cookies not made anywhere else in the east bay. Okay let me start off by saying THANK YOU! Thank you to both young men that went out of their way to make me a happy customer/human and for restoring my faith back in humanity (well at least until some mofo completely takes me back to the the land of WTF). I took my daughters here yesterday and everyone was so sweet and gave us free samples! When I went to check out they asked why there was nothing for me. I explained that I have Ulcerative Colitis (this ain't webmd so I wont give details but it sucks donkey butt and really messes with my quality of life). I can't eat much. The two young men working here went through everything they had available to cook and made me something totally not on the menu so I could eat with my girls. Being in the restaurant business has got to be hard because of all the personalities you have to accommodate and deal with...for me I hate going out because I feel like such an a-hole when I have to make my order all customized and usually staff makes me feel like I am difficult. These guys actually wanted to learn and to help...Wow,...I was truly taken aback. The food was excellent and fast but what I really want to push here is that finding a restaurant that truly wants to make their customers happy and realizes the healing/emotional connection we all have with food is totally amazing and you all should go and support it. Oh the feeling of stumbling upon a real life gem! This place is priceless because of the sheer low key factor: they're undiscovered for their talent! After feasting our eyes and stomachs at Ohgane KBBQ a few doors down, my group and I wanted something of a dessert. Boba tea was majority rule but thankfully it was chilly enough outside that we ran into this bakery. It was late, around 830 in the evening at this point and the bakery closes at 9. There were still a few treats left in the showcase, mostly a variety alfajores. A really kind fellow, who I was later told is the son of the owner, let me sample a flaked coconut encrusted alfajores with caramel in the middle. Delicious!! and the short bread still so soft. I ended up ordering two of a variety of about 7 that they still had. The alfajores were roughly $2 each, I just wish I had a cup of Colombia coffee to enjoy with. I highly recommend Casa de Alfajores for their down to earth service and variety of goodies. After speaking with the son, he details about how they could have more baked goods if they gained the momentum and popularity from more diverse foot traffic. We are a group of workers in the office building right across the street. We love baked goods, pastries and coffee. I ordered americano. That was good. Their signature cookie "alfajores"are delicious. Their menu is small. I had a bolillo, it was freshly baked and large. I enjoyed it. My coworker A ordered pastries, cookies and fancy coffee. She enjoyed it all. Coworker B ordered torta barbacoa. Said it needed more flavor and had lots of meat. She said the bolillo was a little salty. She thought the individual wrapped cookies were a bit high in price. I feel that because they are specialized cookies and rich, the price is justified. Coworker C ordered cookies and said her husband loves them. She returned to buy more cookies. The workers (family owned business) said they were in Oakland baking cookies and goods wholesale. They are new at retail. We love having a bakery so close to work. I wish they would bake conchas or other pan dulce. If they made authentic churros. That would be so great! I plan to return. Hoping to add more stars. They have WiFi but it's not for the customers. They may want to go to other Internet cafes and coffee bars to get some ideas about bringing in more customers. Super nice staff, great food for lunch. I work across the street, and some friends and I wanted to try the new bakery - we weren't disappointed. We all got tortas, my friends ordered barbacoa while I got the vegan version which uses a similar patty to the impossible burger. Mine came with lettuce, mayo, jalapenos, tomato, and onion. The cookies are also delicious. Being that I've seen other establishments in this space come and go, it'd be nice to see this one flourish. These are the best alfajores I've ever had. Not too sweet and the perfect amount of dulce de leche in the middle. The cookies are moist and break off with the perfect amount of crumble. The selection of cookies was great and I tried one of each- powdered sugar, coconut, pecan, guava, and milk, dark, and white chocolate. The space is a little big for the small selection they offer, but the person at the register told me they'd be playing new items on the menu soon. From what I can gather it is a family run establishment with the father baking and the son at the counter. He also told me they have sandwiches to offer, which I will be trying next time I stop by.
