I love all the fresh, healthy and raw ingredient options they have. I ordered the original Reuben and it was so good, the sauerkraut sauce was full of flavor. My partner got the Malibu Melt and mentioned it was full of flavor but a little dry and maybe needed some more sauce. It is a small quaint little place, walk up to order and seat yourself. But right off the bat was one of my pet peeves: QR menus. Maybe when the pandemic was at its worst, they were necessary, but we've learned to live with it, so let's go back to physical menus. The service was super friendly, with our server training a newbie. We started with the Arepas con Platanos Maduros, a corn cake with veggie crumbles and platanos. They were really good. I'm always up for a dish with maduros, so I was happy to see this. For our main course, my boyfriend got the jambalaya, while I got the mushroom ravioli. He loved his dish. Mine was decent, but unless you love brussels sprouts, you may find them a bit overwhelming. I found myself wishing I'd ordered the katsu sandwich. (They were out of the maitake mushroom dish that looked interesting.) For dessert, we got the dark chocolate and tahini budino, a rich mousse, and the cinnamon bread pudding that was coved in a toasted aquafaba whip that was just divine. If, like me, you don't drink, you'll be glad to know the restaurant has a few zero-proof cocktails. I loved my Smokey Orchard, smooth drink with zero-proof whiskey, apple, rosemary, and lemon. My boyfriend got the Rhinestone Cowboy, which does have alcohol. Overall, it was a good experience, and I would recommend it to folks visiting.

I ended up going so long I thought maybe I should put a summary:…read more - great local place run by family focused on food and hospitality - incredible empanadas (chorizo was my fave) - big servings, plates offering variety - loved ropa vieja & the salad with chimichurri feta A friend just introduced me to what is likely to be a new favorite go to place -- Havana on Euclid. I have seen it a few times but was always on the way somewhere else or some strange time of day. So glad Gabriela got me in the door. I should say I have a special place in my heart for Cuban food. As a kid a seminal food experience was a party at the home of an uncle's neighbor when I was 6. The neighbor invited our family to join a celebration of a child's birthday and I tasted new flavors the first time. As an adult I became close friends with someone who's a great cook and happens to be Cuban, we've even gone to incredible Cuban restaurants in NY, Miami, etc. Honestly, I worried Havana would not live up to my expectations HOWEVER that fear was unwarranted. Having dinner at the bar at Havana, felt like having dinner with friends. The kind of friends who check in to make sure you are happy but don't want you to feel rushed. The owner (Tamara) and family waited on us and made sure glasses didn't empty and that flavors and temps were on point. We decided to get the happy hour empanadas -- I love empanadas and similar foods from a wide range of cultures. There were three different ones we shared. They were all good but I really loved the chorizo one! The black bean one was really good too and the chicken one would have been great if I didn't have so many to compare with! Ropa vieja is a traditional Cuban dish and I decided to go with it for the down home comfort I know it to bring. The plate had that slow roasted beef, rice, black beans, yucca and plantains! I really wanted to eat it all but couldn't possibly. The black beans alone would be reason to return! It was all amazing. Gabriela had the Cuban Breeze Salad and says she has never gone wrong with that, or the Cuban sandwich or anything. Chimchurri infused feta was so intriguing and sounds so fresh that I have to go back. Besides that, I want to check in on the family.... Such good people! I left saying I will be back and the prices make it clear I should go sooner rather than later!

Additionally, like many ethnic foods, taste is highly subjective (mainly, was it as good as mom use to make?). That being said, this place is just OK. Prices for food were fair, food was average, and service was subpar. The lechon was rather flavorless, but the bread, from Tampa, not surprisingly was great. They acted a bit confused when I asked for black beans and rice (not congri). Like I don't think it was a menu item. How? How is black beans and rice not a menu item at a Cuban restaurant? They did serve it to me and it was decent, but it was like it has to be made special, just weird. Finally, the iced tea was served in a tiny glass and there were no refills. As for the service, they are not what you would call attentive. It took a bit to get our menus and then water, but the food came fast. However, after that, we never saw a server and had to find someone to get our bill. A few tweaks and this might be a place I would go back to, but as it is I'll keep hoping St. Louis gets a Cuban restaurant that I want to go to.

It was a short wait at the counter to order but it appeared that they didn't have enough staff to handle the volume of orders on this holiday. I was told it would be approximately a 45 minute wait but unfortunately, it was longer. The owner personally apologized for the wait and gave me a coupon for my next visit. The Carter Commons building looked like an interesting concept, but with the holiday the other businesses were closed. There is plenty of tables and booths to sit at if you decide to dine in. Some people were choosing take-out. I appreciated the divided take-out containers. There is street parallel parking out front and across the street. I'm unsure which parking lots you are allowed to park in. The food is the main attraction. On the menu today is BBQ "ribs", BBQ "snoot", potato salad, baked beans and lemon-lime kale salad for around $20-ish. I opted out of the potato salad and lemon lime kale, and instead got mac & cheese and a double order of baked beans. The baked beans were the absolute BEST I've ever had! The mac & cheese was adequate. I prefer mine with stronger flavors. The barbecue ribs were made out of seitan. They were seasoned well, and the sauce was good, but the texture was off for me. The barbecue "snoot" was absolutely delicious. Crispy pieces of vegan meat that were flavorful. I would like to try and come back for another visit and try different items when they're not so busy.

A reasonably-sized (not-overwhelming) menu, great coffee, delicious cocktails, quick, attentive service, and undeniably delicous food. Phenomenal flavors and textures. Toast is typically an afterthought for me, but the buttery crunch of the sourdough has to be spotlighted. The Bee's Knees cocktail was also a wonderfully refreshing prelude to the approaching STL summer. The time has come, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say: wake up, reserve, enjoy.

I was very excited to try them but left knowing I would not return. I waited 40 minutes on a weekday morning for a bar seat for one, standing because all the waiting area seats were taken. The hostess/waitress was very nice when she got to me, but you could tell that the amount of customers was simply too much to handle. Now, this was okay - I should have made a reservation, and it's not the staff's fault they were overwhelmed. However, the service once I sat down was patchy, delayed and distracted. I had to remind different servers of my presence, multiple times. I was willing to overlook this if the food had been fantastic, but unfortunately, their most popular item, the combo breakfast sandwich, was so incredibly heavy. The first bite was crispy, oily and fatty deliciousness, but by the third bite it was simply too rich. The sweet overtone of the honey was lovely but did not cut through the grease. By the time I finished half, I understood why several diners had left the other half uneaten. My personal preference is for a fresh, umami yet balanced sandwich that does not make me feel queasy after finishing it. This was not the sandwich for me. There was a long delay after I finished eating for them to bring me the check. My whole meal took around 2.5 hours. I had arrived starving and, I like to think, with an open mind. These are my honest, unfiltered observations. It is wonderful that so many people want to try their food and that their new space is bigger. Their decor, glassware and menu were cute and tasteful. I also love that they grew from a farmers market food stall and that they source their ingredients locally. With their level of popularity, I think they should focus on preserving the quality of their service and food.
