But right off the bat was one of my pet peeves: QR menus. Maybe when the pandemic was at its worst, they were necessary, but we've learned to live with it, so let's go back to physical menus. The service was super friendly, with our server training a newbie. We started with the Arepas con Platanos Maduros, a corn cake with veggie crumbles and platanos. They were really good. I'm always up for a dish with maduros, so I was happy to see this. For our main course, my boyfriend got the jambalaya, while I got the mushroom ravioli. He loved his dish. Mine was decent, but unless you love brussels sprouts, you may find them a bit overwhelming. I found myself wishing I'd ordered the katsu sandwich. (They were out of the maitake mushroom dish that looked interesting.) For dessert, we got the dark chocolate and tahini budino, a rich mousse, and the cinnamon bread pudding that was coved in a toasted aquafaba whip that was just divine. If, like me, you don't drink, you'll be glad to know the restaurant has a few zero-proof cocktails. I loved my Smokey Orchard, smooth drink with zero-proof whiskey, apple, rosemary, and lemon. My boyfriend got the Rhinestone Cowboy, which does have alcohol. Overall, it was a good experience, and I would recommend it to folks visiting.

My companion enjoyed the brussel sprout salad. We sat next to the front window which we enjoyed. The only negative was at times the noise level was so loud that we could not hear each other across the table.

We arrived around 5:30 on a Friday night, were seated right away, and our food came out surprisingly quickly. There were only a few tables occupied when we arrived, but by the time we left, the restaurant was packed with only one table still open! We started with the empanadas and tried the beef & cheese and chorizo. The beef & cheese empanadas were amazing -- perfectly crispy and crunchy on the outside with a delicious filling. The chorizo wasn't our favorite because it was very greasy, and unfortunately the grease overpowered most of the other flavors. We also tried the Tostones Salsosos, which were good and much larger than we expected! For our entrées, we ordered the Tampa Cuban sandwich with yucca, and we were blown away by the size of the sandwich! It was massive, flavorful, and definitely a generous portion. The yucca on the side was good as well. But the ropa vieja was the star of the show! Every bite was packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. We added a side of Congri rice, which was also incredibly flavorful and robust and paired perfectly with it. Overall, we had a great experience. Quick service, generous portions, authentic Cuban flavors, and several dishes we would absolutely order again. The ropa vieja and beef & cheese empanadas are must-tries!

It was a short wait at the counter to order but it appeared that they didn't have enough staff to handle the volume of orders on this holiday. I was told it would be approximately a 45 minute wait but unfortunately, it was longer. The owner personally apologized for the wait and gave me a coupon for my next visit. The Carter Commons building looked like an interesting concept, but with the holiday the other businesses were closed. There is plenty of tables and booths to sit at if you decide to dine in. Some people were choosing take-out. I appreciated the divided take-out containers. There is street parallel parking out front and across the street. I'm unsure which parking lots you are allowed to park in. The food is the main attraction. On the menu today is BBQ "ribs", BBQ "snoot", potato salad, baked beans and lemon-lime kale salad for around $20-ish. I opted out of the potato salad and lemon lime kale, and instead got mac & cheese and a double order of baked beans. The baked beans were the absolute BEST I've ever had! The mac & cheese was adequate. I prefer mine with stronger flavors. The barbecue ribs were made out of seitan. They were seasoned well, and the sauce was good, but the texture was off for me. The barbecue "snoot" was absolutely delicious. Crispy pieces of vegan meat that were flavorful. I would like to try and come back for another visit and try different items when they're not so busy.

The fish was a bit overcooked but still tasty. My friend got a burger which was good. We both ordered espresso martinis which were delicious (I'm picky). A lovely evening. The quality has not wavered once. I ordered what I always order: The Combo (fried eggs, maplewood smoked bacon, cheese, brioche toast), extra egg, extra bacon. Most kitchens treat a fried egg as binary (runny or ruined). Songbird has mastered the middle register: lacy edges with a yolk that stays glossy and intact right up until the first bite. I ordered them over hard, and they came out a bit closer to over medium, but they were just as good as I wanted them to be. The bacon carries real smoke. This is a decadent sandwich, big enough that half of it would make a light breakfast; I wasn't remotely hungry after one, the second half was indulgent. The service made the move too. The hostess still recognizes returning customers, and the bigger room finally lets the dining experience breathe. The service at the table could have been a little warmer as we've had it the past, but it is still professional. I was there with two close college buddies, one of whom declared his latte excellent. I keep meaning to get adventurous with the menu, but it is genuinely hard to find a bacon, egg, and cheese toasted this perfectly, and I'd go twice in one day if given the opportunity. 4.8 A full five arrives the day when I can arrive first thing on a Saturday without a 30 minute wait, honestly, it's hard to get a reservation here because of its popularity. I wanted my toast's jam to be on the side and they said no. It was a thick tasteless brick without the jam. The items are not as traditional for a breakfast spot, and when I asked the server what they were known for she said the drinks.... They also run a tight turnaround time so they will make you feel uncomfortable when its time to clear your table and pay the bill because they will tell you the next reservation is in 5minutes. The plates were all different and my guest who got a sandwich had her food come out in a plastic fry basket instead of the nicer plates. Odd. As I mentioned earlier, they are not kid friendly as they don't have a kids menu or kid friendly items like fruit and pancakes. We ordered a side of avocado and chicken sausage as those were the safest for us. Also there are no changing tables in the restrooms. Accessibility note: the entrance is a giant multi-slope and 1 turn ramp into a cramped lobby. The men's restroom is the only one on the main floor and female restroom is tucked far in the backroom inaccessible due to a steep step in the back. It is not wheelchair or walker friendly.
