Came here one stormy night for vegan food to go and got my man (who's not vegan) a beef mushroom burger & my mom the vegan spaghetti and myself the beyond burger! It was all delicious! Absolutely amazing! The food, the staff, the atmosphere. I was looking for a restaurant that served both plant based food (vegan type) for my husband and regular meat based food for myself and this was a home run! We were enjoying our food so much that my husband who likes to take pictures of food nearly forgot to take any. Hubbies vegan mushroom Swiss chicken sandwich was a hit and his purple rain smoothie was amazing. There was a slight miscommunication and instead of beef I got a turkey burger patty with my bbq bacon burger but I decided to just try it first before saying anything and I am glad the mistake was made because I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! I've never liked a turkey burger before and I've tried a few. I liked it so much that if I'm able to make it here again (I live 5+ hr away) I will be torn between having the turkey burger or the beef! They also make a delicious hibiscus tea! So if you eat meat this place is for you, if you don't eat meat this place is for you. If you want a smoothie or hibiscus tea or a cocktail or beer (among other things!!) this place is for you. They offer A rather straightforward menu either you want vegan or meat style. The meats they offer are chicken. Seafood, turkey and recently added beef. The menu is literally divided in half for vegans and meat eaters. Example: they will have a turkey spaghetti and a vegan spaghetti or a fish Poboy and a vegan fish Poboy. And when you order the fish it is not just frozen vegan fish they actually marinate eggplant I believe in order to achieve the fish fillet affect. They definitely knocked all of their vegan recipes out of the park! If you are vegan I recommend you try but even meat eaters need to try Sankofa kitchen!! Hibiscus tea is a must!!! We buy the biggest container they have every time. When you walk in you are always greeted with a very warm hello and you immediately settle in to a calm Zen. Family owned and operated for many years. They bring culture, consciousness and cuisine to this neighborhood and city. So many pictures here I wish I had in my own house. The vibe is definitely a place where you and your friends can come relax and enjoy a good meal. The music is always playing with a lot of culture, arts, crafts, t-shirts, oils and soaps to be purchased. I asked what are the most popular menu items and got them. We have a juicy turkey burger with fries, vegan nachos and a chicken burrito. To be honest this food is meant to be eaten on site when it is the most fresh. I got it all as a take-home and did not eat it until later in the day. Except I did chop down on that chicken burrito before I even left the parking lot it was delicious. Very friendly people working and pretty swift service. The side salad was fresh and lovely. My vegan mushroom Swiss burger was delicious, and I appreciated the whole grain bun! My brother liked his turkey spaghetti and his green smoothie. He said it tasted healthy and was really good. Today I had a green smoothie from Smoothie King that was so sweet and so awful that I had to waste it and threw it out after a few sips. I will go back to Sankofa for one instead to cure my craving if I have a chance!! read more

I've visited this place about four times now. I've had their vegan nachos twice and they did not disappoint and their smoothies taste really fresh. However the customer service is not the friendliest or inviting. Both times I've come in I've felt like I was an inconvenience to them asking questions about there vegan options. I had the lemon pepper vegan chicken tenders and they where just ok. Just fried vegan chicken with a bit load of lemon pepper seasoning served with ketchup. I asked for ranch and the lady made sure to let me know it wasn't vegan...which why wouldn't you have a vegan ranch option for a vegan dish? Just dry tenders with only ketchup? Id recommend the nachos for a good vegan option. read more

I used to support this restaurant when they were on Camp Wisdom, but since they moved, they have increased their price, yet can't get an order right to save their lives. I initially didn't mind paying the high price initially, because I want to support their business, however after spending $27 for a burger and a smoothie, yet they couldn't even get the order right, not once, but a second time. Listen when u take an order and repeat it to the customer. Circle it on the order for the chef, and verbally instruct the cook as well. A total waist of my time and money.
