Great spot in this part of Vancouver. The veal scallopini was tender and flavoured nicely with masala mushrooms. Lovely bread which we dipped in their soup of the day (lentil and chorizo). The soup was flavoursome with depth. Penne Norcina was good too. Al dente topped with ground veal mushroom semi glaze Marsala cream sauce. read more

Tonight might be one of the worst dining experiences we have had for quite some time. Although the service was friendly and courteous it took over 2 hours to get our main courses and when they arrived they were mediocre at best. It is with this experience I am shocked to say that this place had some of the worst service of any restaurant I have ever been to. Service was lackadaisical starting with the host. I've been coming here since they opened in 2003 (or about then?). It's one of our staple family restaurants where we have a semi-permanent table on a few Sundays a month. That said, I've had every item on the menu, countless specials, past-menu items, and seen staff come and go. Overall a solid 4 for great family style environment or a quiet date night. Food is 85% fantastic with an occasional 15% of the time when it's a bit off (chef's off days). Talk to the owners if you ever have a problem and they will be happy to accommodate you. Big family vibe and make sure you get a reservation on the weekends as we often sit and watch many walk-ins get turned away. A few recommendations from the menu; Gamberoni Granada is a lovely light appy of prawns in a nice white wine sauce. The insalata Amici is my top pick for salad with the spinnacio coming in a close second. The prawn and papaya salad is a salad for those who don't like salads. Pastas; carbonara is great 85% of the time, sometimes the balance is off, usually weekdays. The fettuccine Marco Polo is a great tomato based spicy chorizo pasta and the penne Norcina is a lighter favourite with veal. They used to have a fantastic seafood risotto but alas it is no more. Mains: the mains are all fairly good but I tend to stay away due to appetite (and holding out for dessert). Sunday special is a three course prime rib dinner. Agnello Salvatore is my top main choice and the two fish dishes are right up there as well. Desserts: great tiramisu (best I've had anywhere) and gelato/sorbets. A worthy option in West Vancouver . . . But I was not blown away with the food. I ordered the lunch special, trout and pasta. I grew up catching trout in Saskatchewan and cooking them the same day, so maybe I'm a bit spoiled. Everything was nice, nothing was over the top. read more

Italian... The bread with the dip is a taste cleanser. We had most of the items on their menu, it was delightful.

The food is just that good. They have some really special combinations that just make you have a hard time trying to choose your dish. But it's just one of those decisions that if you go wrong, you're right. I had a gorgonzola perfectly-cooked penne with candied pecans and spinach, and I wouldn't ever picture how good it actually is. Lunch time was not crowded, I don't know about dinner, and the service is very good and welcoming. I will for sure go back, and recommend for anyone who asks me. read more

I'm really not sure what everyone else is reviewing but this place is probably great if you're over 80 and that your taste buds are near death. Some would call this place 'old school', however, that would imply good honest cooking of traditional Italian food - nothing you couldn't make at home but still well executed and with love. I (and my decidedly upset gastro intestinal system) have to unfortunately report that this place is far from that. Let's start with the bread; toasted and inoffensive but average but served with a ghastly colored garlic mayo. We ordered the buffalo mozzarella 'appetizer' - the cheese simply didn't feel fresh, no herbs to brighten the plate, it was covered in balanced almonds and the tomatoes were fresh but bland. My wife ordered ravioli in a rosé sauce, she ate it all due to a missed lunch that day but reported that it simply wasn't good. I had a penne with ground veal in a masala cream sauce. I ate the pasta and left the sauce. The meat smelt on the verge of rancid and the masala sauce lacked any balance - alcohol overwhelmed the palette and the cream didn't offset but rather made the whole dish incredibly heavy. Service was very pleasant and well intentioned and maybe this place was great 30 years ago but I would caution anyone thinking of having a meal here as it was quite simply one of the worst Italian's we have had to endure for quite some time. read more

Oh, I have a new "amore"! What can I say, I'm a sucker for really good Italian food (and wine, and gelato, and men...) But where was I? Right, the food: After sharing a starter mixed green salad, I had a seafood risotto with prawns and scallops. It had a wonderful tomato basil flavour and the seafood was perfectly cooked. Then for dessert I shared a chocolate pate (like a chocolate torte) with sundried cherry sauce, and spumoni gelato. FYI, in addition to being incredibly decadent and worth the cheat on your diet, the chocolate pate was gluten free. A Celiac's guilty pleasure. In addition to the fantastic food, the staff were great: our host was hilarious and constantly cracking jokes, and our server was extremely friendly, professional and attentive (including a very prompt response to my usual "Can you check if this has gluten in it please?") I chose this place for our first Wedding Anniversary and it was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The fresh bread with the spread was delicious then our Spinachio(pardon the spelling) was a great salad. My husband had the Spaghettini Pescatore which he inhaled he was enjoying it so much and I had the Linguine Amici the waitress had said how much it was her favourite and boy I definitely could see why. Then we finished off with the tiramisu so delicious as well, overall it was a great experience and they made us feel super comfortable and at home. I've seen a couple bad reviews for this place recently and I had to leave a review saying that wasn't my experience at all. I enjoyed the setting and thought the music and art was lovely. When I first came I was a little skeptical about the idea of Italian and Indian food mixing but I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly as well. I had pasta (carbonara) and I thought it was very good. Super portion sizes too so I had extra to bring home. My table also got the butter naan to share and it was definitely some of the best naan I've had. Will definitely be coming back to try more! read more

On a rather chilly summer evening I came here with family to share some good food along with some laughs. This joint is a staple in the area and run by a very nice family. I have visited this joint on numerous occasions but this review is from a recent visit. The decor is quite old school, the type of seating and furniture you would come across if you visited an old school Italian restaurant in New York. The service has We started off with the Amici Insalata which was filled with pear and goat cheese and light balsamic dressing. Then we ordered the eggplant/cheese starter which was grilled to perfection. As for my main, the pasta sizes are quite large so I shared the Marco Polo Linguine which is a delightful mix of spicy Chorizo Sausage along with black beens and a tomato sauce. Our waiter was great and parking was easy on the street near the restaurant. When I called ahead to inquire if they'd have room on a Friday night, they graciously accommodated us. Unfortunately, a dirty fork was included in one of our place setting-- thankfully the waiter took care of this quickly. We were disappointed with the wine list and the food was way too salty--I'm always a little suspicious of what a chef is trying to cover if he/she is adding THAT much salt. I couldn't even finish half of the veal scallopini (chose the mushroom option) secondary to it being overly salted along with the vegetables accompanyi. The pear walnut salad was good but we couldn't tell if they forgot the dressing or if it was very light-- I'd rather this than the other way around, though. Exquisite! This is the best Italian Restaurant on the North Shore. We've been coming here for years. Owners Scott & Vittorio are fun and gracious hosts, and their chefs will prepare any dish you want. They even do a fabulous custom linguine de mare in a thick tomatoe sauce that's both putanesca (black olives & capers) and arrabiata (a little spicy), loaded with an assortment of fish & prawns, and surrounded by a ring of mussels. Four of us dined at this restaurant after attending the Harmony Arts Festival. Very generous portions, and all the food was delicious. Two of us had the Linguine del Pastore, one had the Trout and the fourth person had the Sole special. The Linguine came with a large piece of roasted chicken that was moist and flavorful. The accompanying olives, feta and sun dried tomatoes complemented the dish to perfection. The only disappointment was the limited wine list. We had our eye on a reasonable bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, however they were sold out. The next available SB was almost twice the price. Just celebrated my dad's birthday (90!!!) there the other night. My sister sent her pasta back for being a bit salty, but otherwise, everyone thought the food was great. The service was very good, and we were well attended to, our water glasses were never empty. One thing, it would have been nice if they had offered cake or something for the birthday boy. We ordered wine, and the bill was not cheap. After nothing came, my sister went and asked our waiter to bring something for my dad so we could sing to him. No big deal, just would have been nice..... Great place. People comment about the age of people in this restaurant....it's West Van. That's who generally lives in the apartments around this restaurant. Went with their daily specials: a simply delicious chicken soup with subtle flavoring most appreciated and their pasta of the day with pesto sauce. Well, I'm almost 60, and when you go to a restaurant where you are far an away the youngest person in the room, that's usually an indication that a place is skewing to an older demographic. It's almost like you needed white shoes and cruise-wear to be allowed in... I really went in with high hopes based on the reviews I had read. I ordered veal with mushrooms, and I swear that the sauce was from a powdered mix, as I had the tell-tale chemical fur on my tongue for a few hours after the meal. The pasta dishes are unremarkable. While the food is relatively uninspired, it must be said that the gent working front of house was charming and welcoming. In many ways, it reminded me of restaurants I have visited in Florida that cater to the rest-home set. Damn... I've misplaced my dentures again! read more

Amici is a very classic Italian restaurant and the owner is nothing but a good host. My date and I ordered the tiger prawns, mussels and cream of mushroom soup to start. All the appetizers tasted great, perfectly executed and not overcooked. For our pastas, we had the crab fettuccine and penne pescatore. Both pastas were al dente with a generous amount of well cooked seafood and the sauces tasted flavourful; neither watery nor bland. For our entrees, he had the NY steak while I ordered the rack of lamb. The NY steak is a daily special and definitely recommended; cooked to a medium rare as requested, perfect charred crust, juicy as well as tender and full of flavour. The lamb was served at medium rare as requested as well, had a crispy crust and tasted tender as well as juicy. We passed on dessert because cheesecake was not offered but Amici serves traditional Italian desserts. The prices are reasonable and the quality of the ingredients really show! read more

Excellent service but I find the food average. We had the walnut salad and it's not bad. The seafood cannelloni and linguine vongole were just ok. The salmon in seafood cannelloni tasted and smelled pretty weird and not so fresh. A little disappointed as we went because of all the good reviews on Yelp. read more
