Casa Durango is five star food in a two to three star, cave-like hole in the wall, atmosphere. I've eaten amazing Mexican food in So Cal, Arizona, and yes, Mexico. But I'd completely given up any hope of finding a good place in Washington. That is, until we found Casa Durango. It's a humble store front restaurant in the same parking lot as the DOL and the Pickled Onion. It has an attached bar that serves fantastic Margaritas so, drink a couple, then go take your driver's test (just kidding, officer). The fare is inexpensive, tasty, comfort food that more than makes up for the humble appearance of the dining room. They have a $2-$3 kids menu with Mexican and American selections and the kids portions are extremely generous (as are the regular meals). There will be leftovers. As for us, we go back at least a couple of times per month and never get tired of it. Try the Borrega (sp?) Lamb Shank w/ corn tortillas. I swear, it will melt in your mouth. read more

Showed up about 9pm on a Friday night. Place was pretty empty, but I was warned "it's going to be loud, is that OK?" before I was seated. So, sit down, out come the chips and salsa. Chips are thin, hot, and toasty crisp; the salsa is chunky with a nice kick to it. About this time a guy starts up the music and singing with it. I take a chance on the tamale plate. Waiter asks if I want beef, chicken, or pork tamales--definitely a good sign. I opt for the pork and a beer. About this time a group comes in, and the waitresses start taking turns at the karaoke mike. One of them definitely has a nice voice. The tamales come out after a bit, and they're pretty good. Not the best I've every had (Wolf Burgers in Pasadena holds that honor), but they're fresh, clearly homemade, and tasty. The corn is light and fresh and the pork is tasty and tender. Waiter brings more chips and salsa, and I happily munch away, enjoying the music and the food. Waiter was a little awkward--I think the girls were who usually did the serving, and they tag-teamed a bit between rounds at the mike--but no complaints here. read more

This is a very interesting place. Its a smaller Mexican restaurant that from the outside might strike you as more of a hole in the wall. The food will not disappoint though, this is my favorite Mexican restaurant on the east side. They also have a very wide variety of margaritas to choose from. It gets interesting if you stay late, a guy sometimes shows up with a disco ball and stereo system and starts doing what seems to be karaoke. The food is great and always delicious. The only bad thing I would say is the service can be lacking at times even if it is slow.

This place is wore out the booths are caved in the food takes forever to get out with the place less than half full won't be back.

I went here for lunch and the place had 3 other customers. The waitress took 10minutes to take my order. I ordered Chile Verde and she mumbled, "chile relleno". I clarified that I wanted chile verde. She said okay and walked away. Fifteen minutes later my food arrived. You guessed it, it was chile relleno. I sent it back and she came back about 10 minutes later with chile verde. The sauce was so watery it got all over the rice which made it a soppy mess. Here's the kicker: a few hours later I started throwing up. Food poisoning. Never, ever coming back here. EVER. read more

We came here for mothers day brought the whole family mom,aunts cousins and grandmother thinking it was going to be a nice experience since we never been here, and let me start off by saying 1st and last time I will spend any money here. The half of our order they never brought out and to top it off when we were done paying our bill which was almost 200 dollars the waitress approach us by saying we didn't pay for 2 tacos, she literally stood there and argued with me for 5 dollars! My husband seeing I was getting upset because why would I pay for something none of us ate?! But my husband didn't want to ruin our mother's day so he just payed for the tacos so she would let us leave. Who does that and specially on mother's day?!?!?! wow. this was our go-to place-sadly, cannot recommend this at all any more. not sure who has taken over, but the food was bland. Carne asada completely unseasoned and way over cooked. Mole chicken (used to be one of the best in the area) tasted like ground cinnamon burnt in canola oil with token watery sauteed onions. Sides were mediocre at best. Service was minimal and uninformed. really sad, this place used to be our favorite! Even the bar disappointed-how hard is a good margarita? Good food, good service! We went during lunch and the prices on the lunch menu are really reasonable. The portions are a generous size, my son's burrito was huge! I got the enchilada and tamale plate and the rice and refried beans tasted homemade. It took a little while to get our food but it was worth the wait. It looks like they have a decent Happy Hour too. I love this place. I used to live nearby and would go there when I wanted my Mexican food fix over a 10 year period. I now live in Houston, Texas and wish that Casa Durango was local to me here. I went to Renton in July 2016 and made sure to stop there. They used to have Chili Colorado which was my favorite but the Chili Verde as a good substitute. read more

A great break from all the chain Mexican restaurants. It is typical mexican food of burritos, etc. The food is fresh and I enjoy the fact that there's a tiny little kitchen in the back where you can hear your fajitas sizzling. One of the reasons I am such a fan is the margaritas which are the best around this immediate area. One of the reviews regarding wait stuff is correct that she isn't all smiles, but of all the staff she makes the BEST margarita's of all teh staff. Her and her husband are the owners, so she's a little more business in the way she treats you, but for a really good margarita at a really reasonable price (~$6.50 for a Cadillac margarita) I'm willing to look past it. read more

Their Chile Rellenos is the best you can get, one of my favorites. Also, if you like vegetarian options, the vegetarian quesadilla is very good and full of a variety of vegetables. Ok, I've been to Casa Durangp several times, and every time I've been there service has been poor. Normally you go into a restaurant and you can kind of tell where each waiter/waitress is working. Tonight, was awful! We sat for 20 minutes before anyone came to our table just to order drinks. Mind you, I had to flag someone down. Sat another 10 minutes before our drinks came. Salsa dish and water cups were empty for the longest time, but staff wouldn't look or come our way. Had to go up to someone with credit card to pay cause they weren't coming to my table. Mexican restaurants are known for fast service, but this place lacks that and poor management. I keep giving this place a chance, but no mas! read more

I have lived right around the corner for quite a few years and for no good reason ever stopped in. Over Seafair weekend two of my friends and I decided to stop in after a full day on the water and grab something to eat. This place is great. They have a nice patio outside. Tonio and his staff have been great friends of my family for years now, and I always enjoy stopping in, whether it be lunch or dinner. Their veggie burritos are sooo good! And you can't go wrong with the menudo, pollo chipotle, enchiladas a la crema, and the pollo asado. Go during lunch hours, you won't be dissapointed. The prices are very cheap and their portions are big enough to feed two people each. Learn to be patient, and converse with the staff! :) They are very friendly. The food usually doesn't take more than 15 minutes to arrive, and the salsa they provide in the meantime is quite good. ( My mother can't get enough of it.) Learn to enjoy your meal, and don't scarf down the entire bowl of chips before you even touch your actual food. The chips were not made for you to consume more than two bowls of them. Overall, I love the atmosphere of Casa Durango, the food, and the service. I would recommend it any day. (: read more
