Absolutely fantastic. The bruschetta was served on focaccia, with a creamy goat cheese, delicious balsamic glaze and sweet cherry tomatoes. Maybe the best I've ever had. The bresola was sliced so thin with a delicious honey and truffle flavour, I couldn't get enough. Finally, the scallop risotto was to die for. Cheesy and buttery with a tomato base and garlic, plus the thick seared scallops? I'm all in. Oh and tiramisu was ridiculous as well. Overall, fantastic meal. read more

We visited for a dinner celebrating my cousins birthday earlier this month and had a great time. I called about a month in advance to book the reservation for our party and everyone I spoke to was always super lovely on the phone. I arranged to have a bottle of prosecco for the table when everyone arrived. I was also told Casa does allow for outside birthday dessert, without a "cake cutting" fee - you just have to inform the server beforehand. We didn't end up going for this option, but good to know in general. The restaurant itself was cozy and dimly lit, very romantic and offers a beautiful view of Springer Square across the street. Our table ended up ordering a few apps to split : fried cauliflower, beef carpaccio, ravioli with goat cheese (Silvio's pasta, I forget the name) and the charcuterie board. Every one enjoyed the starters. The stand out dish for me was definitely the ravioli with goat cheese and Butter sauce - it was really fantastic! We ended up enjoying two bottles of a delicous red wine, chosen by the birthday girl. So good! Our table picked various dishes for their mains, some steaks with potatoes, others with the pasta specials. I opted for the fish special - a turbot with grilled asparagus and a crab cake. While my main was tasty, I wished it came with some type of sauce or aioli as I found myself needing to add tons of lemon to brighten the flavour. Everyone said they enjoyed their meals. When it came time for dessert, our server brought the birthday girl a piece of home made tiramisu with a candle in it. Thank you for making my cousin feel so special!! Since all of the desserts sounded so good, we ended up ordering them all on the menu to try along with boozy Monte Cristo coffees to end our meal. This place seems to be a prof favorite, as you frequently see them eating here as you walk by and they readily recommend the place. It's good, but in the last few years, better options have saturated the scene. Took my family here when we went down for convocation. Yes, one of our profs was there, eventually surrounded by no less than seven families. Got a mojito to drink and started with the Melanzane alla Parmigiana (eggplant). It was tasty with a nice crispness. For mains, we all got pasta dishes - Bolognese, Scallopatti, Spaghetti con Polpette, and Frutti de Mare. Everything was good, but maybe would have expected more out of a place like this. read more

This is our favourite downtown Italian restaurant. I order the Gnocchi in gorgonzola sauce. However, I have ordered this for years and when we went here a month ago, the waiter told me they had changed my dish! Now it has a pistachio pesto on top, but he assured me I would love it. I ordered it, but I did not like the pesto. It took away from the velvety rich gorgonzola cream sauce. Luckily, it was not mixed into the pasta (it was just a big dollop on top), so I ate around it. I wish these long-standing local restaurants would stop changing "favorite" menu items. They are favorites for a reason. Now I'll just have to ask for it without the pesto. Not the end of the world. My husband always orders steak and says it's incredible. We will keep returning, hoping they don't make too many other changes. read more

If I could see the chef right now I would straight up break up with my boyfriend for him/her. This food is criminally good. I am mid way through the app and somehow my clothes are off and ready for another aranichini ball. I would go to prison just so I could claim this place as my last meal. The meal could convince me to do anything. I close my eyes and I see mr casa on the other end of a spheggetti noodle looking to get a phat kiss on his italian lips. We usually go to Olivea, they couldn't accommodate us so we tried Casa and it was great. We had the Scalopetti fish pasta with a nice white wine & the braised lamb pasta with a Piemontese red also very nice. Good fast service, I would go back again. It may be a coin toss. read more

This is a high end restaurant and so I expect a lot when I get the chance to go to restaurants like this. So this review is based not on a comparison to other restaurants in Kingston (it beats out many), but what you should get when you go to any high end restaurant. I went to this place as part of a group celebrating my grandmother's visiting. We mostly ordered different things and some plates were hits and others were misses. The appetizers were great, but a couple of the main courses were quite bland. Our waiter was just odd. He arrived at our table to take our orders and just stood at the end of our table staring at us (uhm... Hello to you too...), until we realized we were supposed to tell him what we wanted to drink. He really did the bare minimum and wasn't particularly friendly. That being said, it is a nice restaurant and you'd be sure to impress anyone you brought here. But ultimately this place isn't even meeting the standards that it's setting for itself. read more

I came here for my mothers retirement party. I was not feeling very adventerous and just had a chicken ceaser salad. We were a party of about 15 or so and everyone seemed pleased with their meals. Went in with a group last night and the place was packed! Pretty loud, but that's expected for a Saturday night. It took us a long time to place our order, and when the waitress returned with bread, our table of 6 had a single plate of dipping oil in the middle and that was it. Personally I'm not a huge fan of Italian, so I was a bit nervous about what to order -- especially when the prices are as high as they are, you don't want to make a mistake. I went with the crab and shrimp risotto. Decent portion size, but just an okay taste. I wish I'd gone with the gnocchi like three others at my table had; it looked delicious. Overall just an okay experience. Waaay too overpriced for what you get. Not sure we'll be back anytime soon. read more

This is a very good restaurant. We took pasta and chicken, plus a cocktail to start, and it was one of the best we have eaten since a long time. Service was perfect, everybody was smiling and very attentioned, asking us several times if everything was ok. The place is nice and there is sufficient space between the tables. One of the best pasta dishes I've had to date. We went in last friday which was also Queen's convocation night, so we were lucky to get a table in between reservations. The service was super quick, very informative & really she was just really pleasant. I wish I could remember her name! All 4 dishes had pretty rave reviews. My husband had the gluten free pasta (which could be a huge hit or miss) and loved it. The portion size was pretty decent, we all left stuffed- and the bread+oil for the table was unreal. Next time we visit Kingston we will have to return! Ill be dreaming of the Florentina until then! read more

Went for lunch the other day and had an okay experience. I have been for dinner before, but heard their lunch paninis were good so decided to give it a go. Our waitress was great, and they make a mean Bloody Caesar. We ordered the panini with lamb, a side caesar to share, and their special panini which was chicken based. The paninis were good but not extraordinary. Their dinner service is really good, so I kind of felt like their lunch offerings were something they don't put much time into. The food was really good, can't deny that. We had steaks which were very tasty. The service was overall OK, but this was the first time for me that the server pointed out the table to me and ask me to go sit there instead of taking me there. Also she got the orders for both the drinks and the main menu in such a rush without even introducing herself or anything else. Also they will bring olive oil with some bread, when we asked for some balsamic vinegar, she brought us some and just dropped a few drops on top of our olive oil without even asking if this is enough or anything. I hesitate a little to give this place a four but they have enough good plates to warrant it. Jumbo tiger shrimp and carpaccio are always a treat. For a main course, Manzo (beef tenderloin) is a great option. I've had a few misses with the pasta and fish. The atmosphere is cozy and quaint. The creme brule is wonderful as well. Casa is undoubtedly one of Kingson's best restaurants! The decor is modern urban chic and the food is delicious modern Italian. I had the caesar salad to start and the Penne alla Vodka for the main. The food was on par with anything I've ever had in Little Italy or Woodbridge in the Toronto area. The atmosphere is upscale but not overly fancy--dress up a bit! The wine menu is rather extensive and the service was on point. Kingston should be proud to have a restaurant like Casa. read more

Great atmosphere and great food. I have personally tried the pesto lemon shrimp pasta, beef tenderloin and spaghetti with lobster tomato sauce and all 3 dishes were stunning. The menu seems to change from time to time and I think some of these dishes are currently not on the menu. The desserts are great for sharing. If I had to complain about anything it would be that the service is sometimes a bit pokey but my last visit made up for that when our waitress Tara proved to be the best waitress I have had in any restaurant in a long time. read more

Six of us ate here on December 30/12 and five of us were violently ill with possible food poisoning the next day. Five is us ate a pear saad while the sixth chose something different and saved him from sixteen hours of the worst sickness I have ever experienced. This is my favorite restaurant in Kingston! The food is outstanding! The menu changes seasonal so it's always fresh and updated! The best part of this restaurant is the care each person puts into the service as well as the food! My family has Celiac as well as a dairy allergy! This restaurant by far makes it a pleasure to dine. The care that the serving staff takes in placing our order with the kitchen is always evident! One of the owners I believe is also the chef.... the flavor and quality of our food here is outstanding.... nothing mass produced here so be patient and enjoy. Michelle and Riley happened to be at the bar which is where we usually sit! They so graciously take care of our needs! Brent always has a joke and Bruce who was off last evening is a true professional and has cared for us on many occasions! We have also rented the private upstairs room out for small gatherings and they went above and beyond in taking care of us! We ate at Casa last night for my birthday dinner and I am disappointed to say it was just ok. The big issue we had was that the level of service was not reflected in the price points. Our bill was $140 and that was with two appetizers, two entrees and two beers. So for $50+ per person for we expect more for service. When we walked in the hostess was involved in a conversation with the floor manager and we were not acknowledged for a few minutes. Not a big deal but I think guests should be first priority. When we got to our table we waited too long to be greeted and when we were it was only to fill our water glasses even though we were ready to order drinks. Other minor issues we had were that for both courses our food arrived with the food runner/floor manager not knowing who ordered what and there was no mising between courses. Again not huge issues but for the price point I think that should be standard. Finally it was my birthday and our server never asked if we were celebrating anything which would have been a nice touch. Also, we had to ask the floor manager for a second drink. We both enjoyed our appetizers but found our entrees to be just ok, but think that was more personal preference. After this meal we will stick with Woodenheads where we find the service, food and atmosphere much better - and it's less expensive! read more
