Stopped for a "quick" lunch. First our waitress forgot to bring the water we had asked for, until my husband tracked her down chatting in the back. Strike one. Next our food finally arrived, it didn't look appetizing, but I was willing to give it a shot, until I found a hair cooked into my sandwich. Strike two! I thought well at least there are fries, but no ketchup, hubby had to track the waitress down again. Tried the fries, yuck, I don't know how they managed to ruin fries, but they were awful. Strike three! When my husband paid the bill they knocked off a whopping 10% for the hair in my food. So the plate of food that at any other restaurant would have been comped because it was mostly uneaten still cost us around $9.00. Even free is too much when food is inedible. We will not be back. Our waitress did not check on us during our meal so stick a fork in it and pull it out this one's done! read more

I look on website to book my room , They stated pet friendly! That was a lie! We drove all the way from AZ to this bad place. I go to check in , bought the most expensive room. The guy ask me for my ID and credit card. He says to me do you have a pet? I stated yes she is 5lb and have a kennel hypo allergic and ,service animal. He told us at almost 10 pm I can't give you a room! We put a deposit and reservation. He started his lie we tried calling you! Why was he calling me, and there was no calls or messages showing at all on the road about 2hours out when I made the reservation . So we would have received message and call. But again why are you calling me! And you just ask me do I have a pet? "PET FRIENDLY" no fees or certain rooms only stated on the website. He really did eve care that we drove so far and paid. So I felt that he was discriminated us and our pet and she very clean. Just rude and inconsiderate. Just plane WRONG WRONG WRONG. read more

This place is just ok. It will by no means blow you away. The menu is large and the food was average. They do have a vegetarian menu. Make sure to finish all of your food or ask for a to go box. If you leave food on your plate and do not want a to go box because you have a long drive ahead of you, the waitress might develop an attitude much like the one we experienced! read more

This place gets an extra star for friendly staff. I was driving straight through from Austin to Denver and couldn't face the thought of a fast food dinner, so I took a chance on this little place. They were totally accomodating and helped me find something on the menu that could be modified to eat while driving. And the food was surprisingly good - definitely more New Mexican style than Mexican, but everything was flavorful and not too greasy. Next time I make that drive, I'll definitely be back. And if you're driving through, grab a carnitas burrito "dry": no cheese on top, green chili on the side. Yum. read more

This place was surprisingly really good. We were passing through town and chose this place because it was literally the only place to eat other than fast food. The service wasn't the greatest but everything else was pretty awesome. The tortilla chips and salsa are house made. I had the carnitas buorito and highly recommend it. My 8yo liked the enchiladas with the ranchero sauce and my 6yo liked the quesadillas (except the part that touched the beans but he's still a picky eater). Chile relleno and enchiladas rancheras were very tasty. Definitely recommend! Shrimp basket and (kraft) mac n' cheese were mediocre and salad bar was disappointing. A bit pricey, $50 for 3 entrees and a kid's meal. Only non-fast food option we could find open in Raton on a Sunday evening. Service was a bit slow, but very friendly. Driving from Texas to Colorado, stopped here thinking it was a burger joint... to our surprise it was a Mexican restaurant (still had burger/american options). My family of 4 ate for just under 35$, and the service was great. We ordered the chicken quesadilla and chicken wrap from the lunch special menu, a salad bar and the #64 steak burrito. No. Just no. Waited several minutes to even be acknowledged and then finally seated. Waited again for our server to show up. Waited again to bring me my coffee, which my husband finally got up and got for me, then it was only 1/2 a cup, because they were out. Oh and it was terrible. Dirty tables everywhere. Food was awful. Hash browns were very undercooked, toast came 5 minutes after my meal was served, and was cold (butter wasn't even melted). Sausage was inedible. We honestly went back to our RV and had something else to eat, just to get the taste out of our mouth. It was 8am, they were not busy, yet many dirty tables the whole time we were there. We weren't expecting much but this was the worst food and service we have ever had. My wife asked for steak quesadillas and the waitress told us no we only serve cheese.... the menu clearly stated beef or chicken, so we had to point it out to her. She also ordered a Cabernet since that is all she drinks and it was sour. Ate here about 5 years ago and it was a good experience. This time, not so much. Service was spotty. Chips were hard and stale. This is not an American restaurant. This is Mexican. They had a burger on the menu but 99% of the menu is Mexican. It wasn't even good Mexican. The refrained beans were runny and flavorless. The rice was bland too. I gave it two stars only because the spinach enchiladas had a lot of flavor. This may be the best place in town but this town is dying if not already dead. Most of the town is boarded up. Sad to see but if this place is the best place to eat I can see why the town is boarded up. read more

Traveling to CO and spent the night in Raton. Picked the Sands as it was 8:45p and the only restaurant open. The service was good but a bit rushed as they close at 9:00. I have to say the salsa was nearly tasteles. My wife and I split the chicken fajitas for two and both agreed they were as bland as could be... My husband and I stopped to eat here (the place was actually called Casa Lemus Inn and Restaurant on the business card, but the GPS said it was called Alfonso's, so obviously it has changed hands a few times). We both ordered a combo meal of a chicken enchilada and a chile relleno. It was one of the worst Mexican dishes I have ever had. It was basically flavorless, the chicken must have been boiled, in plain water, flavorless and tough. The chile relleno pepper was tough, so I had to cut it with a knife. Flavorless beans, flavorless rice, without any true "Mexican" spice in any part of the dish. The dish, I'm sure, was microwaved because the plate, and food, was tepid. The staff were ineffective - two other ladies were behind the counter (one openly trimming her bangs and letting the hair fall on the floor), but did not seem to be helping our waitress who was running around like a chicken with her head cut off even though there were only maybe three other tables there. It was as if our waitress was the chef, waiter, busboy, and cashier, and couldn't remember any special requests for our order (had to reask for water with no ice, had to reask for hot sauce to put some kind of flavor in dish, and never got the extra lettuce on top that I specifically asked for while she was looking me in the eye and nodding vigorously).
