My wife and I got a rare spare moment to ourself yesterday afternoon. We chose to hit up Casa Luna because it had been years since we had been there and we love Mexican. Wife had a chimichanga which she said was kind of meh. Nothing to write home about but not bad by any means. I had the shrimp fajitas with corn tortillas. The onions were caramelized to perfection. I will say just like every other Mexican restaurant they did not give me enough tortillas for all the filling they gave me. So par for the course there. When we arrived we were offered chips and asked if we wanted queso or quac with it. No mention of extra cost or even what they cost in general it was just asked as if those came with the chips. So my wife of course said yes because those sound delicious. THANKFULLY me being the sceptic clarified the cost and it would have been $25 bucks for queso and quac....so we just got the free salsa. I was just a little peeved that they were about to walk away and just let us pay that ridiculous price knowing there is no way the 2 of us could have finished such a thing. And then at the end just something to be aware of, not a huge deal, but the tip suggestions on the receipt were based on the price after tax so we just did our own math. We came to eat here during our day trip to Poulsbo; we skipped all the bar/fishhouse and decided to came here instead. Its a really cool restaurant that hidden from the main street; and you have to walk down the alleyway which they have their outdoor seating area. They decorated the alley way; making it really nice; even the passerby were taking pictures. Service was good; staff were super friendly and the foods we got was really good. This was very much a good mexican restaurant we have been to in a few months. Was expecting it to be an ok restaurant for the fact that its in a tourisy area; but it exceeded our expectation. What we got: Carne asada platter (4.5/5) Really good; great portion and very well seasoned. Spanish rice was AMAZING; it was realy realy flavorfull. Came with a guac, pico and roasted jalapeno which is a must. Ask without bean and it ended up to be the perfect portion for our appetite. Camarones a la diabla (4.5/5) Great great dish; spicy but flavorful. It got all the right flavor combo. And again; the spanich rice were amazing. Hibiscus Margarita (4/5) Great margarita; even BETTER drinking it after eating the camarones a la diabla; i felt like it was the perfect pair. Over the self margarita (4/5) Wife likes it. A good strong margarita. They also gave us chip and salsa The dishes were suppose to come with bean and trotillas; but we declined them as we doubt we will eat them and just be a waste since were not super hungry. But we finish both dishes because it was that good. We recommend to anyone that visiting the area and skip the usual fish houses and come here instead. Its worth the try. read more

We ate lunch fajitas here and really enjoyed the flavors and service! The portion size was a little small for the price, but very tasty! The sides for the fajitas were delicious but small. This is the only reason it's not 5 star- price and portion sizes. The salsa was delicious and they shared a spicier mango habanera sauce with us,which we liked too. We love our salsa and were charged an extra $2 for salsa. This seems a bit unusual, The atmosphere is fun and colorful. Would recommend this place and their food. read more

Came up to visit from San Diego and was so happy about our experience here! All the servers were so nice welcoming, the food was fantastic, the chips were fresh and hot and the bowl just kept refilling itself. The carne asada was perfectly seasoned and so juicy, and the chicken enchiladas were super tasty as well as the tortillas soup. We got to try the refried beans and the whole pinto beans so we will have to try the black beans next time. I just wish they sold the salsa in jars so I could take some home and steal the recipe! read more

Change the fry oil more frequently , the chips taste like old oil and their only salvation is that the salsa has a good kick. Ate here years ago and don't remember the food being this so bad. Stopped in for lunch with my kids. Atmospheres is top notch. Waitress was attentive without being stifling. And the place was clean. There was a slight smell of bleach when the busing lady walked by to clean. The restroom was very clean too! I had chicken enchilada with green sauce with refried beans and rice. Had a great experience here for lunch on Saturday. Staff spoke Spanish and it was nice to see that on this side of the state. Ordered arroz con pollo and their agua de Jamaica (hibiscus tea/water). The food was delicious. The Jamaica I have mixed feelings about. I've heard of people using ginger and cinnamon in their hibiscus concoctions, but I've never had someone actually do it. The Jamaica tasted very strong of cinnamon and it overtook the hibiscus flowers. Would come back again, but I would likely order their horchata next time. Overall great experience. read more

This is not an easy place to find, tucked down a narrow alley just off the street--look for the sidewalk sign. But that shaded alley is part of the charm, a perfect refuge on a warm with intimate tables. We gave it a try thanks to the recommendation of a shop clerk and were not disappointed. We started with margaritas--mine blood orange, hers smokey, both with tajian rims--and we agreed that they were some of the best margaritas we'd had across three states (including Arizona). She had the mole enchiladas and she, being from Arizona, has some solid opinions on mole. She gave it two thumbs up for the balance of flavors and the hint of cinnamon. I tried the seafood chimichanga because, well, I've never seen that on a menu before. It was stuff with prawns, shrimp. tilapia, and mushrooms. It turned out to be a light, flavorful combo. While I might not order it again (personal preference) it was well prepared. The only thing I can't rave about was the rice and refried beans that accompanied the meal. They weren't bad, just mundane. A final note: Our server, Juanita, was delightful. I would go back just for her. She was attentive, helpful, and made us both feel welcome. So, yes, if you find yourself in Poulsbo looking for a good meal in a less touristy place (we saw no Viking artwork there) where you can relax before diving back into all the Poulsbo has to offer, I highly recommend Cafe Luna. I was torn on the rating. This is no high end, upscale fufu Mexican restaurant with French or Dutch infusion nonsense. This is genuine Mexican food from a local restaurant in Poulsbo, WA. It is also the best sit down Mexican food I have had in Kitsap county. So it gets "my" five star rating. I like it's simple ambiance and the sauces are fantastic. We shared Enchiladas: 1 Enchilada is $12 and 2 Enchiladas is $14. It comes with ample rice and beans plus some salad garnish. Jeanie had the Pollo and mine was ground beef. I'm a bit surprised by the overall rating for this location. Talk about a hole in the wall. If you see the sign in front of the alley, don't be afraid to go inside. Coming from Southern California we don't typically expect to get good Mexican food in other states. The quality of the food was spot on. So fresh and spiced to where the food is savory and not too hot. The guacamole had an interesting texture and was very good. The sign advertised Chile relleno at $12 but was on the menu for $16. This used to be our go to Mexican restaurant when we lived in Poulsbo. They had the best food. We were headed to Seattle for the weekend and decided to swing by Casa Luna for old times sake. There must be new owners because the food was awful. There was a new menu, that should have tipped me off. The salsa was the first sign it had changed. It wasn't the tasty, fresh salsa from before. The portions are smaller but the prices are higher. My favorite item, Enchiladas Suizas wasn't on the menu anymore so I got cheese enchiladas with red sauce. It was awful. The side of rice did not look or taste homemade. It was a half of spoonful scoop with burnt, crunchy rice. The enchilada sauce tasted like it was out of a can and it was lukewarm. Hubby got the fajita burrito with chicken. He said the chicken did not taste fresh like it used to, almost like it was pre-sliced frozen chicken. It wasn't big chunks of chicken like it used to be. The server was nice but never asked how our food was or came back to refill our drinks. Unfortunately I don't see us going back to this place which makes us sad because it was always so good. read more
