The Salvadorian pupusas here stand out so I got the 3 pupusas plate ($11.99+tax) so I opted to get the loroco (herb / edible flower), chicken, and revuelta (chicharron, bean, and cheese). We were looking for another pupuseria that was a bit closer than our current favorite, but this place is quite a disappointment. My wife ordered 2 lengua tacos and 2 tripa tacos and 1 pupusa revuelta. I ordered the pupusa revuelta combo (comes with 3 pupusas and curtido) and also got 2 tacos adobadas and horchata. My adobada tacos were probably the worst I've ever had. The meat didn't taste marinated at all and was extremely burnt. My wife's tacos were not the worst we've ever had, but they were still quite bland. As far as pupusas go they were just ok. It was also very frustrating that the lady told me we were getting the pupusas revueltas with pork meat and we got chicken instead. The curtido tasted ok but had a weird color to it like maybe the ingredients weren't all that fresh. Overall, if you need to satisfy a pupusa craving and you live close by, this place might just barely be adequate. But I wouldn't come for the taqueria because their tacos are mediocre. read more

When it comes to Salvadoran food, I always test out the meat. My doctor wants me to be on a vegan diet, but when I stepped in this restaurant, I knew I needed to take one for the team. And I am NOT regretful! The meat is properly seasoned and tender! I had the mulitas and the steak salad. The salad comes with no dressing which is okay by me! It does have cotija cheese and beans. It was filling and delicious. But the real star was the mulitas! Carnitas, cooked well and seasoned properly, it was the perfect mix of crispy, oily, cheesy with a delightful dollop of what seemed like mayonnaise but I'm pretty sure wasn't. If you're looking for traditional, tasty, delicious food, this place is definitely worth a try!! read more

El Sabor Casero is pretty decent. The restaurant is clean and inviting, even though simple in its design. It's a Taqueria and it has the look and feel of one. I've had a couple of things off the menu, and the only thing that I completely don't like is their posole soup. It's got a tomato-based red looking soup base and just doesn't appeal to me. I also have a favorite place in Poulsbo where I get my posole on Saturdays so it was just on a whim that I tried this restaurant's. Also, I am so hooked on El Bacon restaurant's pupusas that no other pupusas can compare or even come close. So even though the pupusas here might be good, they're just not good enough for me. One last problematic thing for me is they don't have carnitas. I love carnitas. So the pork that they use is one that does not appeal to me. All that said, they do have some pretty tasty tacos and other menu items that are good. I recommend that you try this place. Although my opinion is that they are not great, they're really not that bad. read more

We were pleased to discover, today, that we can get good pupusas within 10 miles of our new home. Good pupusas; not greasy. Lengua taco was very good. Fresh squeezed orange juice was terrific. I prefer my plantains pan-fried, not deep fried and was sad that there was no horchata, but all in all. We'll be back. read more

Very good pupusas, as good as that other place further south. They are a bit skimpy on the curtido (cabbage) but always add an extra no charge when I ask. Sopes are very good. I raved about this place when it was a sit down style Mexican/Salvadoran restaurant. I was impressed and consequently very sad when it shut it's doors. After what seemed like forever, they changed the format to more of a taqueria style place and reopened next door... New menu, the same outstanding quality! I have waited to do this review as I have been working my way thru the menu. I haven't tried everything, but really have liked everything I've tried. The papusas were a new item for me, but have become a favorite for my family. They are essentially a masa harina based "pancake" stuffed with lovely different options. I'm really partial to the loroco one and the queso one. They have recently expanded the choices of fillings and all are good. Delicious flavors and textures. We almost always get a plate of these for the family to share though I've had them as a stand alone meal and they are recommended. The pazole (only on weekends) is amazing. The gorditas, sopas, tacos, and tortas are every bit as good as one would hope for. The several different house made salsas are all worthy. Prices are reasonable for both the quality and quantity of food. Perhaps the most telling is that my wife, who lived in Mexico during her formative years, rates this as the most authentic that she's tried in the region and we have ceased looking for alternatives as this place ALWAYS delivers "the taste of home"! read more

We are somewhat Hispanic food snobs being a Hispanic family, and this was just like homemade only better. The Curtido accompaniment (like a vinager slaw) was the best we've had ---very balanced and perfect crunch and bright flavors. The menu offers many familiar dishes -tacos, tamales, mojarra Frito,etc but also dishes not usually found such as platanos Fritos , yuca and chicharrones, tamales de elote ( fresh corn tamales). There were authentic sodas and beer and fresh fruit juices. The place appears clean and well-kept. Service was very friendly and we didn't wait long for our take out order. One word. PAPUSA! I haven't been to El Salvador. I have a few Salvadorian friends who have shown me the ways of the pupusas but most of my experience was in the Bay Area. This is the best Papusaria in Washington I've found, thankfully I live close enough to hit it up often. Visiting from California and found some delicious Mexican food. We were all pleased with our orders. Casero burrito, chicken tamales, and 4 chicken enchiladas. All were tasty and made this Mexican food lover happy. Tortillas tasted like homemade, enchiladas were filling and just the right amount of cheese with queso fresco on top of them. The tamales are large and filling. Just the right ratio of tamale masa to meat. The person taking our order was very nice and helpful. We plan on going back before our vacation ends. read more

I love pupusas and I am thankful that Sabor Casero serves the best (and possibly the only authentic Salvadoran) pupusas in Kitsap County. Revueltos are outstandingly delicious here. They are also unusually large-sized for pupusas - I think this is a good thing but just surprised. Curtido is nicely fermented and a tasty companion to the revueltos. OMG. One of my favorite restaurants in Kitsap County. I'm a local and my partner and I go here at least a couple of times a month. The enmoladas are my go to. The birria (usually weekends) is amazing. I also love the enchiladas caseras and the tacos. Don't be expecting sour cream, shredded chicken, and three-blend Mexican cheese.
