    FETTUCCINE CON POLLO
    Karina M.

I came here for dinner with my husband after finding parking in a lot near by. We were promptly seated and after mulling over the many tasty looking options ordered the Caesar salad, fettucine con pollo, and a build your own pizza with pesto, black olives, garlic, and tomatoes. My husband also had a couple of glasses of wine. We were also quickly served some complimentary bread that came with a dipping sauce that I couldn't really identify but was tasty! They were nice enough to split the salad and pasta for us so that way we each got our own plate of salad and pasta and avoided any messy spills or sauce flying. I thought this was so nice and considerate. The pasta was a standout for us with tons of chicken and the tomatoes and mushrooms complimented the sauce so well. We will definitely be back!

Pompeii is a quaint Italian restaurant in the heart if downtown Los Altos. My friends and I came here to grab a quick bite and we loved it. The service was friendly and quick is assist and check in with us. The food was delicious! The pizza was packed full of flavor and had a nice crust. We also tried the pesto ravioli and it was divine!

This is a small family friendly restaurant. The lamb shank was very flavorful and enjoyable! I also really liked their bread with eggplant, sun dried tomatoes, and garlic oil dip. The steak tasted just okay, too charred and wasn't very enjoyable. Overall it was a good dinner.

ZUPPA DI COZZE - Steamed mussels with tomatoes, basil, white wine & light marinara
    Pavel R.

I can't say enough good things about Pompeii. This charming family neighborhood restaurant has been a staple in Los Altos for about 20 years. The interior is simple but nice. During my recent visit, I had the ZUPPA DI COZZE which was steamed mussels with tomatoes, basil, white wine & light marinara and the minestrone soup, both of which were great! The mussels were perfectly cooked, and the broth was full of flavor. The minestrone was hearty and comforting--the perfect start to the meal. We usually stick to our favorites: their pizza, Insalata Pompeii, and pasta with Bolognese sauce, and they never disappoint. The pizza is freshly made, the salad is a nice mix of crisp greens and tangy dressing, and the Bolognese is rich and satisfying. The service here is consistently attentive, making you feel like part of the family. Whether you're dining in or picking up takeout, you can always expect a warm welcome and delicious food.

This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants. Simple, delicious Italian food. The lamb shank was very tender and the polenta was not perfectly creamy but still good. The spaghetti carbonara had a good flavor and texture. I had the best carbonara in Florida years ago, 3 nights in a row and I have not found a place that has made it as well. The gnocchi was pretty light and fluffy then drowned in a heavy Gorgonzola sauce which is a good thing. I enjoyed it. My favorite here has been the capellini pomodoro. We had the chocolate desserts with mochas and cappuccino. One was a chocolate tartufolo and the other a molten chocolate cake. They were not huge and super sweet. It was nice to try. The service is nice and prompt. The restaurant is clean and nice. Pictures on the wall. No tv. Indoor & outdoor seating. There was a steady stream of couples in and out. I would come back if I had a craving for Italian food. The flavors and taste to me is very authentic.

Great location in downtown Los Altos. Indoor/Outdoor seating. Nice efficient service. Easy street parking. Veal parm is one of my favorite eats. so that's what I ordered. Table also had the calamari appetizer, pizza and gnocchi. Everything was very good, not great, but good. Calamari was lightly breaded and very tasty. Best dish of the night. The veal was a little tough and lacking flavor. 4*. Gnocci was OK 4*. For the price we paid, not a great value. A fun night out with decent food.

I work close by and eat here often. They are the best every time. Today I made a custom pizza pesto, pancetta, tomatoes, garlic, and pine nuts.

When I crave for Italian, I always think of Pompeii. I ordered a linguine Alle vongoe , I really like it. The sauce is not too watery and it's flavorful. The linguine was relative Al dente. We also ordered the fried calamari and it was really good. Some place made them where battered came loose, some place made it too oily. This place get it done right. It's still my go to Italian restaurant.

Mani mani on artichokes with polenta and vegetables.

Just went to a birthday party in the small room on the left. The food and service was impressive. They came out with appetizers very quickly--calamari and bruschetta, while we were looking at the menu. I ordered the mani mani special--grilled over artichokes and capers, polenta and veggies. It came out hot and was so delicious. Everyone else loved their choices too. The fusilli primavera was real pretty and tasty. The desserts were equally as wonderful. Ire o. End the Limoncello and decaf coffee. Can't wait to go back.

Well, honestly, probably the worst oyster-eating-experience I've ever had. The oysters didn't taste great (honestly I was questioning if I liked oysters as much as I thought I did because they just tasted...fine. Not as amazing as oysters usually do). Also, they only serve spicy sauces to go with your oysters. ONLY spicy options (horseradish, a jalapeño mignonette, and a chipotle something or other, and horseradish or cocktail sauce). Oysters have an incredible but delicate flavor, while I can understand people wanting to spice it up sometimes, spicy sauces will totally overpower the oyster flavor. Worst of all, when I asked if i could get a side of *any vinegar* to be able to make just like a basic mignonette-ish option, their response was that they have *no vinegar* anywhere in the restaurant. I don't know how you brand yourself fully on a type of food (oysters), and then serve them ONLY in a way where you can't actually taste them! Also had a grilled artichoke app, which was fine, but again served only with a spicy sauce. Our server was great, I didn't catch her name though!

Upon entering we were greeted by three people ( 2 women, 1 man) behind a podium, razed style desk. All were smiling and greeted us warmly, while reservations were verified. A short walk through beautiful cocktail/bar area and we were seated at the end of a long booth, the kind where one side of the table is a chair, one side a booth seat. Being at the end with an L shaped curve, this provided both of us with booth seating. There we met our waitress Fatima, who offered iced or mineral water. A man also joined her providing us with menus and a wine list. The wine list is as expensive as it is extensive, sure to meet almost everyone's needs and tastes. A friendly, smiling atmosphere prevailed. AMBIANCE: Romantic whited clothed table, warmly lit candle (fake). Indirect lighting while having a nice effect, can be a problem when trying to read the menus. Service: Fatima was our main server. Professional and friendly, accompanied by a friendly gentleman, I am assuming he's the sommelier, who provided us with the wine list and answered the numerous questions from the Duchess. Meanwhile, I had requested a ginger ale, but was informed they only had ginger beer. Yuck, no thanks, and inside a minute, Fatima appeared with a nice glass of ginger ale, leaving the fellow a bit egg faced. The Duchess ordered a glass of white wine, $15.00, which she found to her liking. A nice basket of warm bread was delivered consisting of croissants, sliced French, a cracker type affair (lacking in taste and not to my liking) and a dark brown bread neither of us sampled. Small croissants were warm, with a just out of the oven aroma, while the sliced French although flavorful, possessed a very tough crust. Ramekin of unsalted, soft butter was appreciated, but sadly was somewhat bland. COMPLIMENTS OF THE CHEF: 2 small sushi like mouth amusements were served, having a seafood flavor, with an almost creamy texture, a nice touch. Sunday Prix Fixe Menu, 3 courses,$95.00: FIRST COURSE: the Duchess ordered the Classic Caesar salad, where she found the dressing ladened with a vinegar tasting dressing much to her dislike. Salad was simple with romaine lettuce, parmesan, croutons and chives, with no notable taste of anchovies. SECOND COURSE: Shrimp Carbonara - noodles covered with a bacon, cheese, black pepper, tomato mixture, accompanied by 4 skinny shrimp, definitely not prawns as advertised. Small fist sized serving, was placed in the center of a dinner plate sized bowl. Who thinks this presentation is good? Who thought this up? THIRD COURSE: Dessert - Sunset? Okay, that was the name of a cute little dessert consisting of coconut creme brulee, strawberry, vanilla pineapple chutney, crispy honey, and . . . if was on fire, which was pretty cool. Unfortunately, my lady was not having any of it and at one point requested salt and pepper (oh no! the embarrassment, me hiding under the table), there are no condiments on the tables. The pepper was ground very course as was the salt. While to my liking, there complaints in the realm. I decided to order off the menu, spying ribeye listed on the menu. IMPERIAL WAGYU RIBEYE (USA)* accompanied by a corn kakiage, and a sweet paprika, green peppercorn jus $115.00. The meat servings all have the various countries of origin listed. The steak was finished with nice char appearance and although served with flavorful sauces, lacked salt. Thank you Duchess for asking for the salt. Accompanied by the hashbrown appearing corn kakiage. I did have some problem cutting into the steak, order was medium rare, it was closer to rare. 2/3rds went home with us. Might order again, I would probably ask for the sauces on the side. SIDE ORDER: GARLIC MASHED POTATO, butter and chives $16.00 - Nice buttery, whipped appearance, nice garlic flavor did not overwhelm. Too much for one, not really enough for two. would definitely order again. DESSERT: BERRY SWEET - mascarpone cheesecake / strawberry / graham cracker crumble $20.00 Had not the appearance of cheesecake in any shape or form. A round, ball shaped dessert (no flame) surrounded by a egg-like shell texture, with a subtle strawberry flavor, sitting atop some graham cracker crumbles, scant at best. A creative appearance, something you taste rather than eat. Although they do have numerous styles for your pleasure, I asked for a regular, plain old cup of decaffeinated coffee. I guess that's why it tasted like brown water. The Duchess claimed dishwater . . . Alexander's By the Sea, Steakhouse is suited for a special (very) occasion, first date, romantic outing, etc., but not much food for the pricing. I decided to go with the Cajun chowder, and the softshell crab po' boy. . My food comes quickly, and the order was huge! It was a very good, rich chowder, with just a tiny bit of a "zip" from the Cajun spices. They definitely gave it a good flavor. There were lots of goodies inside. The one thing about the chowder, was they didn't take out the bay leaves, and I did get a couple.. I just put them off to the side. I'm not going to take off a star, because the chowder was so good. The roll was a soft roll, , but it still held up to the sandwich extremely well The lettuce, and tomato were crisp and fresh . The Cajun fries, had a little bit of a zip to them, but not too much. they came with ketchup, and their house Cajun sauce. I didn't even touch the ketchup. The sandwich already had some Cajun sauce on it, I put a little bit more. The rest, I used to dip the fries. I only made it halfway through the sandwich, and the fries. The rest came back to my room with me for another great meal. I also got another little "tub" of that sauce to take with me. The entire time, Alison was so personable, , we chatted a little bit about this and that... She is definitely an asset to that restaurant. (Tell her boss to give her a raise...:). The price was extremely reasonable for such a wonderful meal, and they also have a military/veterans discount this was such a great meal, I would gladly come back here again. Thank you so very much
