First time here, went for Los Altos's First Friday's event, and I got the Spaghetti Bolognese with Meatballs. It was OK. The Bolognese could've been thicker and meteor. They only put two meatballs on the plate. They should've put three, in my opinion. It's a little restaurant and the atmosphere was nice although not quiet, lol! The music they played on the overhead speakers was very nice. I think the reason why I'm giving this place four stars instead of three is that our server, Carlos was awesome. This is a nice, cozy, neighborhood Italian restaurant at the downtown of Los Altos, an affluent community. If I live within 10 minutes, I probably will come as a "let's not cook today" go-to. But I wouldn't travel far to experience this place. Everything was reasonable and well made. But none will be at "I am impressed" level. I got a glass of Chardonnay while waiting for my companion and another bottle of Pinot for the meal. The selection was not large and wine quite good. We shared calamari appetizer; lamb chops and lasagna as entreé; then tiramisu and lava cake for dessert. Pretty much standard test items for first time. Food: The salad is a bit too salty but the seasoning tasted so good! The pastas are also cooked nicely at al dente! The portion is very filling. One little pettiness is the seasoning of the linguine scampi. The flavors are not cooked into the shrimps which make it a bit less enjoyful while dining. Service: the staff is nice but it seems like the time we visit is almost their closing time or it was a down time in the town, so they didn't really put too much of attention to our table, which is a good and bad thing. I came here for dinner with my husband after finding parking in a lot near by. We were promptly seated and after mulling over the many tasty looking options ordered the Caesar salad, fettucine con pollo, and a build your own pizza with pesto, black olives, garlic, and tomatoes. My husband also had a couple of glasses of wine. We were also quickly served some complimentary bread that came with a dipping sauce that I couldn't really identify but was tasty! They were nice enough to split the salad and pasta for us so that way we each got our own plate of salad and pasta and avoided any messy spills or sauce flying. I thought this was so nice and considerate. The pasta was a standout for us with tons of chicken and the tomatoes and mushrooms complimented the sauce so well. We will definitely be back! read more

I can't say enough good things about Pompeii. This charming family neighborhood restaurant has been a staple in Los Altos for about 20 years. The interior is simple but nice. During my recent visit, I had the ZUPPA DI COZZE which was steamed mussels with tomatoes, basil, white wine & light marinara and the minestrone soup, both of which were great! The mussels were perfectly cooked, and the broth was full of flavor. The minestrone was hearty and comforting--the perfect start to the meal. We usually stick to our favorites: their pizza, Insalata Pompeii, and pasta with Bolognese sauce, and they never disappoint. The pizza is freshly made, the salad is a nice mix of crisp greens and tangy dressing, and the Bolognese is rich and satisfying. This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants. Simple, delicious Italian food. The lamb shank was very tender and the polenta was not perfectly creamy but still good. The spaghetti carbonara had a good flavor and texture. I had the best carbonara in Florida years ago, 3 nights in a row and I have not found a place that has made it as well. The gnocchi was pretty light and fluffy then drowned in a heavy Gorgonzola sauce which is a good thing. I enjoyed it. My favorite here has been the capellini pomodoro. We had the chocolate desserts with mochas and cappuccino. One was a chocolate tartufolo and the other a molten chocolate cake. They were not huge and super sweet. It was nice to try. The service is nice and prompt. The restaurant is clean and nice. Pictures on the wall. No tv. Indoor & outdoor seating. There was a steady stream of couples in and out. I would come back if I had a craving for Italian food. The flavors and taste to me is very authentic. read more

We also ordered the fried calamari and it was really good. Some place made them where battered came loose, some place made it too oily. This place get it done right. We came here last night to meet up with my wife's cousin, who happened to be in town for the weekend for a business trip. Reservations are accepted, but need to be made via the phone. We were seated pretty promptly after arriving thanks to our reservation, and service was very attentive and friendly. We never had to ask for water refills as they were very diligent about filling water cups throughout the meal, as well as taking away empty plates. The food overall was pretty good, however the bread was served cold and was barely touched. It would have been significantly better and more appreciated had it been served warm. They came out with appetizers very quickly--calamari and bruschetta, while we were looking at the menu. I ordered the mani mani special--grilled over artichokes and capers, polenta and veggies. 7/27/2022 Pompeii Ristorante 100 State St Los Altos, CA 94022 On our continuing exploration of downtown Los Altos, the wifey and I tried this place for Italian for a late July lunch. Los Altos has lots of free city parking so we parked at an adjacent lot. This place has a nice setup for patio dining with tables on the corners and ample inside tables. We sat inside and service was fast and good. We ordered the Calamari Fritti, Spaghetti and Meatballs, and Steak Panini. The Calamari was a bit overdone so a little tough, chewy and crispy but this place uses real Cocktail Sauce (with horse radish) instead of the Plain Jane Marinara that most other places use, be sure to ask for at least two ramekins. The wife's spaghetti was a little salty and had nice flavor with generous size meatballs. I was happy with my Panini sandwich though the edges of the steak were tough and chewy. I guess they could do a better job with trimming the meat, but I can handle gristle and fat, so it's OK with me. This was a nice find for our exploration. Good food, service and value. We ordered the linguine vongole (clams) which were not made with the classic ingredients of white wine, olive oil, garlic, parsley, lemon zest, butter and pepper flakes but was essentially a cheesy creamy fettuccine alfredo with some clams. I don't like cheese and clams (or cheese on any seafood) so I didn't like this dish & neither did my partner. The fettuccine was legit but not what we ordered. So disappointed a simple dish was wrong. Eggplant Parmesan was about diner quality, so very average as well nothing special. Polenta and. steamed vegetable sides were unremarkable. The bread was toasted nicely so the tomatoes didn't soak into the bread making it soggy. Nice amount of basil, oil and tomatoes. Calzone - ordered by my step mom. She said it was amazing. Huge! She took 60% of it for lunch the next day. She said next time she might say "light cheese" but she knows that's her preference and not a true calzone Shrimp linguini - ok this was my dish. It was a bit bland... I had to add lemon, red pepper flakes and a lot of black pepper. One I did, it was a nice dish. Next time I'll order what my dad had Seafood pasta - my dad said it was loaded with seafood! Little bay scallops, clams, muscles, shrimp and the sauce had a zing. He actually said it was a bit too spicy for him but I like spice so I'll probably order that. Bread pudding - it was great until I realized it had chocolate chips in it. Doesn't quite go. Overall, love the portions, quality ingredients and flavors! Do note, this isn't the place to go if you're in a hurry. Absolutely delicious. This place... every time we have gone, I've fallen in love with their food over and over again. We initially tried it because we thought it'd be a good place to find both delicious and low carb / keto options. They have delicious salads and steamed veggies that you can pair with fish or meat for the carb-conscious and amazing pasta and more for everyone else. Our favorite things to order there are the braised short ribs and salmon picatta but nearly everything is amazing. Kudos to Gabriel. We've done take-out and dine-in with both being of excellent quality. There's clearly a reason this lil gem has been a Los Altos presence for so long! Definitely see ya there! read more
