Great breakfast, GREAT homemade flour and corn tortillas, and last but not the least, THE best menudo in Austin / Kyle area!

I've been here many times for many years. Never in my experiences has service been SO BAD and how things have changed operationally. Breakfast tacos stopped immediately at 11am. You can't even get a bean and cheese taco. I know they have tortillas, I know they have beans and I know they have cheese. Seems simple right? NOPE! No tacos after 11am. No complimentary chips and salsa. Took awhile for a water refill. Waitress never came back. Had to get another waitress to bring us water. I ate an hour ago and I'm still hungry. The Migas are a joke. I guess that's why they don't give chips and hot sauce. Need to crumble them up for the Migas. Lazy. Then I use to be able to add some sweets, from the bakery, to my order. NOPE. Has to be separate. Adding to the list of places that will turn into an apartment in the next few years and a place not to visit again. Even old Austin restaurants have turned into a California-like waste. read more

Today went quite well. I had been up earlier running some chores and was to meet Lord Richard at Casa Maria. Even with it being a Saturday, I immediately found a parking place but a few minutes it was a full lot. I had not eaten here in quite a while and never gave it a rating, so the stars aligned. After Lord Richard arrived we went in and were chatting with a gentleman named Neville, so we invited him to join us as the place was packed. Our server did a marvelous job, juggling the 3 of us and a table of 20. I, of course, ordered Menudo and Lord Richard Chorizo and eggs while Neville got a huge pork chop and medium eggs. Closely examining the Menudo, I quickly noticed that there was no sediment present, so most likely it was fresh. The Menudo was cooked perfectly, nice and tender, though not as spicy as I care for it. Sweat and Menudo are a great combination. This is now a very big place and to my surprise, I was not disappointed. I will be back for sure, but will ask for extra Jalapenos. read more

Good food, fast service and cordial. Only had a burrito and chicken enchiladas for lunch special.. margaritas were expensive $10.99 for large. Ok taste, seemed waitress in too big a hurry taking our order or anything she had to do with us. Oh well, prices weren't outrageous so good place given the ambience. Great place for breakfast. We ordered breakfast tacos and Machacado plate (without the beans and potatoes)... Great stuff The red salsa was very good and the green sauce was a hit.. Hot and flavorful. Plenty of seating and tables are spaced out so you are not bumping chairs with your neighbors. Wait staff was friendly, and took care of us making sure everything was OK. No rush to push you out the door. They leave a small ticket / tab on your table and when you are done, just take that up to the front counter and pay... Easy to find, might be a little challenging to find parking... But we'll worth the trip. read more

This place is wonderful! It has a great ambiance and delicious food. We came here for breakfast and ordered the Chilaquiles and the Machacado. Both were very tasty and fresh. I definitely would like to come back for an enchilada dinner and a margarita. I didn't have the opportunity to check out their bakery, but I bet it's really solid. I hadn't eaten here in perhaps 10 years... they no longer seem to make their own tortillas, which in the past seemed to be very lard-y. Or was that the beans? At any rate, the food was serviceable. My migas were okay (not great), the beans were decent, the potatoes looked steamed instead of fried. My husband's beef enchilada special (Enchiladas Rojas) was also.... okay. The red sauce here lacks the complexity of a truly great chile-based red sauce, but then, that is the case at most Mexican restaurants. But, the service was excellent -- thoughtful and sweet. Their bakery selection seems to trump that of most places, at least in terms of diverse offerings. They looked good, but we did not indulge. We won't be making the drive here again when there so many other options. read more

This once was a well beloved family style restaurant with great food and great customer service, everyone there seemed rude, not busy, but can't wait on anyone. They also jacked up their prices for the same food they have been making for decades. They don't care about feeding their people anymore they just want to make an extra buck. It's sad how Austin has become. read more

Margaritas are a NO here for me. They're sour and weak on the liquor. I had a "lite plate" for only 5.99 which I recommend if you're on a budget and want to still munch on some food. The one I got had a beef enchilada (meh), rice (good), and a loaded toastada (YUM). I mean loaded! Sour cream, guacamole, lettuce tomatoes, beans, cheese, and ground beef. Anywhere that I can get tacos, chips and salsa, and a margarita for $10 is somewhere I can support. The service was fantastic, and the food was great. We were seated immediately, with no wait, at around 3pm on a Wednesday. Our waiter was attentive, and paid close attention to our needs. The tacos were yummy (I got a nopalitos and a chicken fajita, and my partner got two pastor tacos). They would have been even better with salsa verde, but were fine without it. While there was nothing special about Casa Maria, it was an all around good lunch spot with nice food, drinks, and service. I'll absolutely be back. read more

First timer here -- all three of us were super happy with our food. The guacamole is creamy and delicious. I got chicken fajitas and the meat, beans and rice all had great flavor. I had a Mexican martini, which was a little sweet for my taste, but still good. Clean atmosphere, nice staff, decent service. Overall very satisfied. I'll be back! read more

A local authentic Mexican restaurant. The owners are incredibly nice. The food is delicious! My personal favorite time to eat at Casa Maria is breakfast and I always get their Migas. The bakery has all the classic pastries and they even have themed bakery items for holidays and can accommodate orders for celebrations and birthday parties. read more

Wow disappointed . I drove all the way south to eat here . The first time I came it was great. We waited to be seated & then ordered our food & was forgotten about for 30 minutes & then another 20 minutes goes by and the food is wrong . Let me first say, I understand that everywhere is short staffed, but that isn't an excuse for the staff sitting/standing around on their phones and the long wait times, especially when the place wasn't busy. Usually staff help each other out to pick up the slack. Seems like the waiter/bartender was the only one working. When we finally got our chicken soup, it was tasteless and only had a small amount of slices of vegetables. Honestly, wasn't worth the $14. The only saving grace was the bakery! read more

I ordered Casa Burrito (steak). The tortilla was dry with very little sauce. I reported to the server that I was unable to see the steak pieces and he said that they shred the steak very fine. Well, it did not taste as steak. The tortilla was mainly filled with rice! After we left the restaurant, I had severe gas issue and was bloated. This lasted for several hours. read more

I wish I had taken a picture before I devoured the shredded chicken chile relleno! I'd never eaten here before, but my wife grabbed takeout for me today and wow! The batter was perfection (even after a journey in a takeout box) and they were very generous with the shredded chicken which was perfectly seasoned and tasted like it had been stewing in abuela's cocina for hours on end. Tender, juicy, flavorful, and despite being full 2/3 of the way through, I could not stop eating it. And the salsa ya'll!!! The salsa sealed the deal. We live on the opposite side of Austin, but I am already planning to suffer the traffic to go back! The hard part will be deciding whether to have that amazing relleno (which may or may not have an addictive quality to it) or betraying my "new love" to try something else on the menu. The bakery items aren't as tasty or sweet as I would have liked. The conchas were dry and lacking sweet flavor, it just tasted of bread. The donuts were extremely dry with glaze on them. No bueno. Everything I got gave me an aftertaste..gross! However, the bad bakery, but nice sweet workers and plus the bakery was cheap, so I didn't waste any money. read more

I have been here a number of times and continue to get a good, solid, comforting meal every time. I have always found the service to be quite friendly as well. Although I have not tried any sweets from the bakery (yet!) they all look delicious. Of special interest: I just tried their fideo for the first time about a week ago and I have thought about it every day since! This is the kind of spot that is simple and consistent, and we all could use such places that are good for the soul. Very happy this one is mine! read more

Just awful! Have they sold out to another? At 2:00 pm, the restaurant was not busy at all. The menu prices were not that of the once family friendly restaurant. Average prices were $14,99 and up for meals that would cost much less! No one came by to ask if they could refill our empty beverages. My fajitas were like Jerky, totally dry and as if sitting out for a long time. My husband ordered breakfast and was charged extra for toast even though it would have come with tortillas and he had held on the beans. His meal was 20.00 for 2 eggs, potatoes and extra charged for bacon. They used to bring chips and 2-3 sauces but now they charge $9.95 for what used to be included at every table. The waitress was not at all friendly and was busy conversing with cashier during our experience. Sadly, we cannot recommend and will NEVER return!!! read more

Hidden gem and super authentic :) loved their chicken suizas enchiladas! Plus, my skinny margarita was strong and yummyyy! We took a chance going here late last night- it was pretty empty and it's definitely not the best looking joint- could use some updates perhaps? There are bars on all the windows/doors which always reminds me of real sketch locations haha And our waitress did bring carne Guisada instead of Asada but we got it all figured out quickly! This restaurant is very typical and prices are fair. You can always expect a consistent menu. The service is always good and the place is comfortable. We ended up at Casa Maria last night for an impromptu dinner with a friend. We love how unassuming and no-muss this place is with its south Florida diner/banquet hall vibe. Service is attentive and our waitress was extraordinarily sweet and especially helpful when it came to appeasing our toddler. We began with the Queso A La Mexicana, labeled as "melted cheese with guacamole, pico de gallo and tortilla chips," which we took to mean as all those things being *IN* the queso. Nnnoooo. What came out was a tiny ramekin of bland queso, some decent pico, and very sad guacamole that needed seasoning. Disappointing start, but the frozen margaritas were awesome, so at least there were those. For dinner we shared the Dona Maria (essentially an enchilada trio) and the burrito with chicken fajita. The enchiladas were spectacular: each one was bursting with flavor and all the meat was tender. Great beans too! The burrito was...we hate to say...awful. The chicken was chewy and in massive pieces and there wasn't much "burrito" to it--just seemed like they wrapped some fajitas up in a tortilla with a wet bean sauce and called it a day. Bottom line: this place is really cute and seems to have that mom-and-pop Austin spirit. We're definitely happy that we tried it, but we don't foresee ourselves going again for no other reason than it's way too south and isn't worth the journey for us. read more

The food is fast and delicious, there's plenty of parking and no wait time, AND the prices are reasonable. Can't get better than this. The servers were accommodating towards a diverse crowd: workers, families, single patrons, old and young folk. They even let someone bring their dog inside. Free chips and salsa for the table only after breakfast time and/or only for multiple people. Both the chips and the salsa were good enough to beg for second refills. I've gotten the pozole and tried their taco salad, and they were both rich in flavor and extremely filling. Not to mention, they rolled out of the kitchen FAST. Next door at the panaderia, they had a chocolate mocha cake that was sweet, moist, and oh so rich. My only complaint is that the edges that were exposed to air were a little dry, like it was sitting around a couple days. But the velvety frosting and mocha syrup on the interior of the slice made up for the dryness. There's no reason not to try this place. I'm so glad I did. read more
