Went to Casa Nueva for the first time to celebrate my daughter's birthday with family and friends. There were thirteen of us and we all had room. The service was attentive and patient. The food wasn't bad; mine could have been warmer, but I'm not a person who will send my food back to the kitchen. Not usually isn't a good idea. I will go again with a smaller group and try the food again, I ordered what I always order at Mexican restaurants; the enchiladas! I want to try the shrimp tacos next time. Well this was a great return to my childhood. There was a restaurant when I was a young man called Casa Elana and it was my favorite restaurant and started my love for good Tex Mex before I even knew what that was. My uncle would often take me and tell me "stop eating all the chips...you'll get full" HA...I ate everything! So I go to see what happened to it and see it there as it pretty much always was but then realize it's now called Casa Nueva Mexican Restaurant. Curious I parked and Just walking up to that familiar front door and into the foyer brought back so many wonderful memories. Looked into the dining room....and there was the both where I loved to sit. Asked if wanted a booth or table, I decided to take a table...more comfortable at my older age. She seated me right next to my old booth which warmed my heart as all those that I created wonderful memories with are no longer with us. I ordered and just thought about all the great memories from over 45 years ago. Chips and salsa different but still so good. My meal was way better than expected and brought back more great memories. The service was 5 star as well. I so loved that lunch...more than any I have in a very long time. Name may have changed but that's it. Excellent! We been coming to Casa Nueva for a little over a year and the food and staff keep us coming back. I feel like this is one of the few places that brings out warm fresh chips and salsa each time and the food overall is pretty consistent. On Wednesday, our first stop on our Road Trip was "Casa Nueva Mexican Restaurant" to join our "Wet Your Whistle Wednesday" Group for Dinner. Nancy and I started this group 8 Years & 3 Months ago. We moved to San Angelo, TX, 3 Years ago this month. It's good to be back and see the group once again. Linda & Tom have taken over the Group keeping everyone informed on the Weekly Happenings and the Monthly Birthday Celebrations - Thank You For All You Do. We arrived a little early and visited with Maria, our Server here since the group started. It was good catching up with her. We also ordered our drinks, Miller Lite with a glass of Ice in a Frosted Mug for my Wife and I'm having a Dos Equis XX in a Frosted Mug. Soon the others started arriving and we chatted with each one catching up on what's taking place since the last time we were here. It's great seeing everyone. While we looked over the Menu we enjoyed their Fresh Chips with Red & Green Sauces they provide for everyone. Our Server is Nancy (not my wife) because Maria had to leave due to personal reasons. My Son, Daaron, arrived just as we were ordering. My Wife and I are sharing the "Casa Nueva Sampler Plater"; Combination of Nachos, Quesadillas, Flautas, BACON Wrapped Shrimp Brocheta. Chicken Diablo. Served with Chile con Queso. We have had this before but it's been some time. My Son ordered a Dos Equis XX also and "Quesa Birria": 3-Tender Braised, Falvorful Beef Birria Tacos with Monterey Cheese on Corn Tortillas. Served with Rice & Charro Beans. Orders are in and now it's time for the "W.Y.W.W." Photo Shoot. Our Friend, and Professional Photographer, David Dodd, has been taking these pictures of the group for many a year now and it only takes a couple of tries - as it did this time. When the Photo Shoot was over, we returned to our tables and enjoyed our drinks until our food arrived. Casa Nueva is always busy but the Chefs in the Kitchen always gets your food out pretty quick - and they did this time. Our 'Sampler Platter' is Huge and everything on it looks Heavenly with lots and lots of Meats all over everything. We don't know which is the Best because it all was Perfectly Prepared and full of Flavor. My Son enjoyed his Birria Tacos and we all ordered another Beer - and ate more Chips & Sauces. I LoVe their Green Sauce, it has been one of the Best around for a long time. It was great visiting with everyone and I am very happy that my Son made it over. I also brought along the W.Y.W.W. Albums I put together for our Monthly Birthday Celebrations we have had over the years. I found this spot on TikTok actually and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious and the service was great too. It's conveniently located in a big parking lot so there is more than enough free parking. The inside is very nice and reminds me of being in an authentic Mexican restaurant. We reserved the big room at the back and all tables were set with menus, the place was clean and well kept. We had our own restrooms and the price itself was affordable for the service. Casa Nueva is the BEST place for tex mex food. I'm happy it's right down the street. We go here maybe once every two weeks. The warm salsa is our favorite as well as the frozen mango chamomile margarita. I've taken all my friends and family here and not one person has not liked it. The prices are great and not overpriced. Service was good. Not authentic Mexican or close. This fusion largely misses with a few hits. I'm an original customer of both Casa & Casa Nueva. Sadly, no longer a clean place. No longer reasonably priced. No longer any resemblance to a Mexican restaurant - $6.50 for salsa and chips. $2 for an extra ounce of salsa. I could go down the menu after living in Texas and spending inordinate time in Mexico. Suffice it to say this not Mexican in any way with two exceptions: colors and tequila. That is one above Taco Bell. The original owner, founder, would NEVER have gone here as he loved the Mexican tradition and added a little flair. Was thrilled to see Nueva and some of the original staff (95'). Loved the co-op idea. However, it has gone the way of a major for profit as portions vary from night to night and the pricing is that of NYC. Some "seasonal" offerings taste like a left-over mix without any concern for flavor combinations, pleasing the palette. Again, the original owner was a trained chef, thought things through and tested with the customers. This group does what it likes with a love it or leave it. After 10 years and later 20 with Nueva, we've had enough of the downhill slide. They are lucky the local love the bar and find it the place to be. Otherwise, it would be long gone. This has been our go-to Mexican spot for 10 years. I was surprised to see I had not written a review before. We're typically in about once a month and have never had a bad experience. It's not flasyy or upscale but is comfortable, clean and very consistent. The servers are generally excellent and prompt. The menus features a pretty solid list of the standards as well as house specials. Among out favorites is the El Refu fajitas, which complement a nice mixture of grilled meat and shrimp with plenty of veggies. This gives all the flavor of fajitas without feeling completely bloated from too much meat. Their spinach enchiladas also stand out, as do the chicken Diablo and the carnitas plate. Their loaded nachos are great as a starter or an entre. Several rooms for seating, and of these the bar can be a bit noisy on a busy evening. We were looking for quick hot meal on the way to our evening plans and wee decided to try it out. We have since returned 3 additional times and have door dashed out meal! We love it!! Food is authentic and fairly priced. We have tried the pork chops, fajitas and carnitas. Pork chop slightly salty, but nothing a side of avocado can't take of. This has become my defacto Mexican restaurant! I'm not certain they have the best everything but as far as near to me they currently have the best chimichanga. And since chimis are my #1 favorite food they're winners. I haven't eaten inside so I can only speak to to go ordering. My previous restaurant that put me on to chimichangas fell off and I needed a replacement. As chimis aren't real Mexican food not all places have them. And some of the ones that do, do it weird. Here it's consistent and done properly. My girl gets the chicken quesadillas and loves them everytime. I've also tried the enchiladas supreme and when I don't want a chimi that is not a bad substitute My biggest gripe here is I wish they gave a Verde salsa with the chips that come with ordering. They give a tomatillo salsa which is good but other places give both. Again only gripe and it's not even a big issue just a mention. Can't wait to eat again soon. read more

Stopped in here to check out their rainbow ritas. I didn't get a chance to celebrate National Margaritas Day the day before, so I made up for it. The reviews were good and it was right up the road, so why not? Needles to say I was not disappointed. The food wasn't bad, but the drinks were spectacular. Never before had I seen a margarita flight, so I had to try it. Let me tell you, they'll get the job done. I love the fact that you can get the tajin on the rim, which pairs really well with the mango flavored one. The other flavors were blueberry, strawberry and the house- deeelish. The chicken tastes like it was FROZEN then microwaved. I hated the chicken tostadas so I asked for something different, I replaced it with the 2 chicken enchiladas & a side of rice... when it got to the table I immediately knew it was the same frozen tasting chicken from the tostadas. I took one bite & couldn't take the taste. I then asked for a box & my check. When I received the check it was wrong, they still tried to charge me for the tostadas that I only took half a bite of. When I asked her to fixed it she walked off rolling her eyes and came back to the table with an attitude.
