We had a good experience at Casa Orozco, though it didn't quite make our list of must-return Mexican restaurants. There were five of us dining together, and everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the pollo asado, which I thought was quite good. Overall, the food was solid and satisfying, even if it wasn't especially memorable compared to some other Mexican restaurants we've visited. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, creating a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and welcoming, which definitely added to the experience. This is certainly not a place to avoid--we had a good meal and a pleasant visit. It just didn't stand out enough to become one of our personal "must-go" spots. So I love Casa Orozco but tonight.... We walked in tonight at around 9:10 (they close at 9:30). Yea I know its a little late but the place had quite a few people in the dining and bar area for a saturday night. I know for myself if we're eating close to closing, I leave a good tip bc I appreciate their service when its close to closing time. We waited at the front hostess area for 2 to 3 min before anyone came out. 3 employees walked by us and said nothing as they saw us standing there waiting to be seated. Finally we got seated and our waitress came to ask us if we wanted drinks and we ordered at 9:17p. We received our food at exactly 9:30p which I thought was amazing timing and it looked okay. But.... as the waitress gave us our food, she placed my husband's fajita plate down then walked around the table towards me. As she was doing that, she slid the tortila holder across the table and it hit my husbands dinner plate.. she said nothing and I thought that was so rude. She placed my food down and then asked "do you guys want anthing bc the bar is closing and they wont make you anything after they close!" I said "we're fine." Again, we get it you guys are closing but come on. My husband asked her if he could get a refill on some salsa.. she yanked the salsa from the table and went to fill it. Returned with it and slid it across the table a couple inches and walked away. Groups of people started to leave the dining area and head home and before we knew it we were the only ones there. As we were eating, I could see the waitress sitting by the wall with her arms crossed looking at us and around the room. It made us uncomfortable and I could tell she was so irritated.. it was 9:40. The other employees were cleaning the tables and placing chairs on tables around us to clean the floors Before long, we couldn't take it. I was just annoyed so we asked for to-go boxes. She got us our boxes and a bag to carry the boxes. We felt SO rushed and really annoyed. Yea you close at 9:30 but you're still making money at the end of the day. We paid at the end and gave her a low tip. I was prepared to give her wayy more but I couldnt. Her attitude was something else. I feel like the restaurant has gone down and its unfortunate. The food was okay and I don't think we'll be back. It's a shame bc I really liked this location and building. I don't know what her name was but she was around 5 foot 1-2 inches tall, mid 40s, short black hair with a purple tint to it, and she wore a silver butterfly ring on her right ring finger. As we walked out, the feeling we got was that we were holding EVERYONE UP so they couldn't close up. I'm not sure what is happening with Casa Orozco. First of all, I want to say myself Nd my family have been fans since the very ORIGINAL Casa Orozco was in Livermore. Many birthdays and family celebrations have taken place here over the years and one of the family favorites has always been their chips and salsa. We love it so much that often when we are making our own Mexican food at home, we will pick it up just as a side for the dinner. However, the last 6 times (not kidding) I have come and asked for the MILD chips and salsa, we get home and it is the super hot version. Now I'm not a complainer as I will eat any type of salsa, but our kids crave the mild because the hot is too much for them. One of the most common complaints among guests with Casa is that their prices don't match the quality or service. This is a perfect example. It costs nearly $20 for a bag of chips and a quart of salsa and to get home and have it been inedible for our family, is ridiculous. This has happened time and time again even after asking the hosting staff to "double check", "please make sure", "are you sure this is mild?" This obviously isn't the only issue. As many others have mentioned, food quality has gone down hill as a whole. Sometimes food seems stale or rushed. If Casa wants to remain a Livermore staple, it really needs to work on making the quality of their service match their pricing expectations. Really disappointed with the food I got this time. Regular tostada ($18) - this thing was just slightly bigger than a taco, yet somehow cost more than a super burrito. I was really annoyed at how little food came with this. I also chose carnitas and they tasted old and dry. It was super unappetizing. The cherry on top was after eating this my stomach was super upset all night, I'm guessing from the meat. We've been to this restaurant a handful of times but after getting this I'm not in a rush to come back any time soon. read more

Ambiance: The vibe in this place is always fun, and lively! Great place to celebrate birthdays! They are famous for giving the birthday person a shot of tequila and a sombrero, while singing Happy Birthday! Be careful....they might help you with the shot unless you specific you want to do it on your own. It's all done in fun and not intended to be careless. Food and Beverage: The food is amazing and they serve very large portions! My husband was happy to have my leftover shrimp tacos the next day for leftovers. I had a mango margarita and it was straight up amazing! They have a variety of menu and drink options! Reservations: A bonus for this review and restaurant - they take reservations! There were six of us and they started to seat us in the middle of the restaurant. I let them know we were probably going to be a very loud group, so they sat us in a corner booth. It's been a good decade since I've been to this chain. The tacos el carbon was no longer in the menu unfortunately but we did try many other items. Cali burrito, enchilada, fajitas, and chile relleno. Not very much meat in the Cali burrito and it had many fries. Rice and beans were the standard, season yourself. I came here with my son yesterday for lunch and we had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable and the service was great and everyone was friendly. We were impressed with the dishes. I ordered carne asada and my son had a combo plate with tamal and enchiladas. There was more than enough to fill us up, but we were trying to be strategic by saving room for dessert. I almost suggested we get order our own desserts, but we ended up splitting the fried ice-cream. Thank goodness for that because it was surprisingly huge. Went to Casa Orozco for lunch on a Saturday at 1 pm. Service was subpar, our waiter was not very accommodating at all. One of the members of our party of six asked if she could switch out one of the three meats in the chimichanga and the waiter refused to even entertain it. The kids meal stated on the menu that churros were available upon request but the server promptly said no we don't serve those. The food is not well spiced, extremely mild. The portion sizes are large. It does not taste very authentic. I ordered fajitas with chicken and steak and it was mostly onion and bell pepper (good thing I really like bell pepper). The guac, sour cream, pico de gallo, beans, all came in little cup shaped chips. They do not have aguas frescas. The ambiance is nice and and warm and the hostess seemed welcoming. Our waiter just seemed like it was a chore to wait on us. He did not check on us one time. We had to wave him down to get extra napkins, drink refills, etc. I am not impressed. In separate conversations after lunch, three of the people in our party brought up how unwelcoming the waiter was. The bill came and when we asked if the tip was included the server didn't hear us I guess?! But the tip was already included, I think he was bothered that we checked that and didn't leave him any extra gratuity, but frankly he wouldn't have deserved it. The bar area looked like a better vibe than the restaurant area. The bathroom in the bar area is gender neutral and was clean and well stocked. Came here today for lunch around noon with my son and it was surprisingly not very busy. They were quick to get the chips and salsa and drinks to us. Our food came out quickly as well. I asked for just lettuce and grilled chicken on top with a side of whole pinto beans. The chicken was grilled nicely and had good flavor (I used the salsa as my salad dressing and it was good as always...and with a bit of a kick!). The beans were hot and creamy tasting and perfectly cooked in my opinion. My son had the lunch special of three quesabirria tocos. He enjoyed them but said they were kind of oily/greasy, but we both agreed that is just the nature of how they are cooked. He said the flavor was good though. And it came with a flavorful dipping sauce. The owner was walking around checking in on tables and asking how things were, which was nice. This used to be my families go-to spot for all celebrations, but we have all moved out of the area. But being in Livermore today, I knew I had to come here for lunch. Our go-to place for Mexican food was closed, so We tried to give this place another chance after many years of not being impressed, and honestly wish we hadn't. I ordered a cucumber jalapeño margarita. It came in a giant glass which already told me it wasn't going to be very good. It tasted like straight margarita mix. Usually after one marg, I'll feel a slight buzz, not after this one. At all. I genuinely don't think there was any booze in it. I just wanted one drink to start, and definitely never would've ordered another drink after that one. Gross. For food, I ordered the fajita tostada. It had so many bell peppers on it that every bite I took, that was the only thing on my fork. Mind you, I know fajitas have lots of bell peppers and I love them. But it's literally all I could taste. They topped it with a gigantic blob of sour cream and guacamole. I love guacamole, but it was way too much sour cream. I had it with chicken and the bites I got with chicken tasted like plastic and had a weird toughness to them. I ate a few bites, and literally sent it away saying I was done looking like the pic you see. I'm not a complainer or one to send food back so I did not mention my dislike, but I just couldn't eat another bite. My husband ordered the Chile replenish combo plate. He said the chili was tough. Usually on a good one, you can cut it with your fork, and his was not that way. He also said there was not a whole lot of cheese, and the rice was very dry. Beware!! Casa Orozco does not honor the no corkage fee for a bottle of Livermore wine brought to the restaurant, even though they are listed on the web as participating. We even asked the hostess before she seated us, and we still got stuck with a $13 corkage fee when the bill came. We celebrated my birthday at Casa Orozco in Livermore last Sunday, and it was the perfect choice! The atmosphere is lively and welcoming--exactly what you want for a fun family meal. The service was friendly and attentive from the moment we walked in. I ordered the Luis' Tacos, and wow--they were absolutely delicious! You get four charbroiled tacos (I went with the steak) that are crispy on the outside, stuffed with roasted corn, melted cheese, and perfectly seasoned meat. They're like a delicious cross between a taco and a quesadilla. Every bite was packed with flavor, and they were so satisfying. I honestly can't stop thinking about them! The portions are generous, the margaritas looked fantastic (next time they're mine!), and everything came out hot and fresh. It felt like a true celebration without any fuss.
