Wife craved Mexican food, and this was the first google hit. So off I go to Los Caporales in downtown Livermore. The restaurant was semi busy. It's pretty spacious and it's got that little touch of bright color palette look of old traditional mexican food locales. They need to rework their menu though, that thing's a beast. I thought i was reading the holy scripts. They got a massive amount of offerings. The service was good, the young lady that took my order went and brought me chips as i waited for my food. I didn't even ask for them. How nice of her, she also kept calling me muchacho, that means young, oh man, if only she knew i was an old bag of potatoes (33). But very serviceable and attentive. It was different for me, been visiting Mexican restaurants for a long time and service usually ends at the register. Not here. Finally got my food and went home. It was very delicious, and portions were great. I specifically enjoyed taking a bite from my wife's Carne Asada torta. My son loved the beans and rice. Lastly, my go to asada quesadilla, loved every single bite. The experience in relation to pricing, i think was definitely fair. Will come back again in the future. read more

It was plenty for our table of four to share. ​Seafood Tostada: The shrimp was fresh, but it needed more seasoning (a squeeze of lemon helped). was craving a molcajete, and usually i go to a place in vallejo but this place did the job in the meantime. Upon walking in we went to the front to order our food, and since we decided to eat in, they gave us a number for our table. They have a decent salsa bar & chips. The menu is plentiful, it's a cute mexican restaurant right next to grocery outlet. The molcajete itself wasn't as good as the bay's tbh, it was more tomato based salsa and was not that spicy like i wanted. But i made sure to ask was it spicy, he said a little bit, but also told me the salsa bar had spicier salsas to pair with it. It was still delicious all in all, i wish it came with rice and beans like other places but i guess the amount of meat makes up for that. Have been here a few times but first time thinking about writing a yelp review. Super nice place with a homie vibe. It seems like they have a mural of old town Livermore which is really cool to see. They have indoor and outdoor (naturally shaded with trees) seating. The service was awesome, I was able to get in before the line formed. This time I ordered a carne asada torta and I did not regret it! I've previously ordered burritos, fajitas, and a shrimp plate, but I think my top fav is the torta. The place looks bigger than I remembered, and then I realized they moved right next door! We ordered our food. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands, and by the time I returned... voila! Went back to see if it was just an off day. The owner Gabriel was drunk and I saw him scratch his privates before continuing to cook. The food here is awful and the owner is the most unprofessional restaurant person I've ever seen. Don't eat at this dump. Acting like him should be illegal. The burritos have ketchup in him. This place has great food! We have been coming here regularly this summer for a breakfast burrito during our Saturday morning bike rides and there is never a wait for food. The food is always fresh and delicious! The customer service is great too! They have a big outdoor patio area we love to hang out at and eat while watching people walk and drive by. Sometime you even get some music from someone singing across the street at Panama Bay coffee. Very enjoyable so if y'all haven't eaten here yet do yourself a favor! Their lunch items are great too. I can cook good Mexican food. So I can tell a good find. Los Caporales is the real thing-authentic The taco plate is very popular. I overheard 3 customers before us order, also the person ordering after us , he ordered a taco plate. I've been here a few other times. This is my first time to Review. We ordered two taco plates 1Lengua - tongue , 1 Shrimp 2 Carmitas with a shrimp taco ala cart. The plates come with rice & beans Service was nothing special. But the cashier was pleasant. Perhaps it was too busy. 6 other people eating in Food came out relatively fast. Everything was hot, at good eating temps. My carnitas were excellent, slightly crispy on the edges of the meat. A decent serving size. The Shrimp was one the best I have eaten. It was warm , cooked just perfectly- to avoid making the shrimp rubbery. Rice is MY TEST for good Mexican. Their rice is much like mine at home. Beans were perfect, presented with a sprinkle of jack cheese (warm enough to melt the cheese. My wife has had her lengua tacos around the valley. She commented that this one was good. She would order it again. A pleasant dining experience. We are from Danville, would gladly drive here for a good meal. A bit expensive - as these were "street tacos" you find in LA for $3 It's expensive to eat out these days - especially if we are expecting to leave a tip which easily adds another $10 to the bill. Most disappointing tacos I've ever had. Passed by here many times and decided to give it a try. My first (and last) visit. I love discovering "hidden gems." Tacos are my "litmus test" for the rest at a taqueria, and it's always been under a $10 risk. I arrived mid afternoon, mid-week for a late lunch. The place was empty except for a couple sitting at a 4-top and a person waiting for a to-go order at the other 4-top as the woman at the register waited silently for my order. Prices for tacos were listed on the wall menu at $3-4. Entrees, staples like Posole, and many of the "super" burritos were $20+. The images looked appealing. House-made fountain beverages were listed as well, but the fountain area was unappealing as I walked by it to the counter, so I looked to the selection of bottled beverages in the cooler behind the counter. I ordered 2 tacos, one each of carne and chicken asada, and a small Jarritos (because they didn't have small bottles of real Coca-Cola). The woman at the register asked if I wanted all the toppings on my tacos and I replied an enthusiastic yes, with avocado and pico please. I had an assignment to edit and had planned to do it as I ate. Unfortunately there were only (very tiny wobbly) tables available that were only large enough for a plate, beverage, and small bottle of Tapatillo next to the napkin dispenser, and it was too cold to sit at a larger table outside overlooking Railroad Ave and the strip mall parking lot, so I set down my soda on a wobbler, and headed for the salsa bar in the corner. I heard a spatula flipping something on the grill behind the register/counter as I chose my levels of heat, a couple of lime wedges, and pickled carrot and raw radish slices after trying a (stale unsalted) chip and deciding against more. (There was no cilantro or pico). It was just after 3 pm and the place only had 2 (already served) customers. I paused and took a good hard look around as I headed to my tiny table. The salsa bar, fountain area, windows and walls looked like there were years of greasy buildup. The entire place was filthy, including the tables, chairs, and self serve areas. I was wiping my table with some napkins when the woman at the register put my plate on the table about 4 minutes after I'd placed the order. I complemented her on the quick timing. No reply. The tacos looked appealing, covered in green salsa, raw onion, and what I thought was cilantro...that turned out to be chopped parsley. The avo and pico I'd asked for were missing. The tortillas underneath were cold like they were right out of a bag. Both sets of small meat cubes were unseasoned (not even salt), tasted like pure fat, and were so tough and full of gristle they couldn't be chewed. The green salsa on top was also bland so I tried adding salsas from the bar to amp up the flavor but each of those tasted like they were from a can as well, so I reached for the Tapatillo next to the napkin dispenser. Even that couldn't hide the fatty lard taste and awful texture of the plain meat (?) that was more like trimming scraps to be thrown away than what anyone would serve paying customers. I cook at home and have enjoyed asadas out enough to know what they should taste like. These were an insult. I couldn't force myself to get through half of what was on my plate and spit my last bite into a napkin I put in the trash as I left. I looked closely at my receipt later, as my digestive system confirmed I'd made a huge mistake. The 2 tacos came in under $10 as expected but the total bill was just under $16 (plus the tip I'd left in the jar on the counter for a total of just under $20) There were seperate charges for the missing avo and pico, and my single (small) bottle of Jarritos was as much as an entire 4-pack at Grocery Outlet next door! I want to support "local" but I could have eaten at a competing cheap taco chain that was far cleaner and had better tasting food for less $$...and avoided the digestive upset I experienced later. (BTW, the restroom at this joint was also filthy and dingy.) I'm surprised this place is even open, and am left wondering if the health inspector is a family member, because there's no way this place would pass otherwise. read more

First time here. Had the Combo plato: comes with an enchilada and chile relleno; side of rice and beans. Choice of red or green sauce for the enchilada. Choice of whole beans, refried or black beans. I must say the red sauce is very rich and smokey. Very tastey. The chile relleno was good tasting too. Good cheese inside too. The carnitas was fresh and amongst the best I have ever had. The portion was huge. the rice was good and the refried were pale in color but spot on non the less. The chips were of good grade and if you order the hot salsa, brace yourself! The folks working there were super nice and helpful and even the restrooms were nice and clean. I had a craving for Mexican food and wanted to try this place out. I learned from other people that the tacos at taquerias are one of the better items and to steer away from nachos. Knowing this, I decided to try two tacos and give a shot at a quesadilla. The two tacos I ordered were carne asada and carnitas. They were packed with a boatload of flavor. I always love the presentation for the tacos, it looks so much and filling. Honestly, after eating just two tacos, I was quite a bit full. The steak was not overdone and the carnitas was not too salty. Grabbing the tacos were easy and nothing fell apart. I would definitely get them again. The quesadilla was alright. It is not your typical quesadilla that the edges fold on each other. It looked more like two tortillas on top of each other with everything in the middle. It was packed with chicken, sour cream, guacamole, salsa and onions. Overall, not a bad taste. This taqueria was pretty good and delicious. I do look forward to coming here again. read more

Great little Taqueria in Downtown Livergulch. As a longtime Livermorin, I can say that. Beautiful outdoor patio for the socially distant. Great for people watching. Wife and I split two caritas tacos and some nachos. Tacos we're OK. To me Rice and Beans make or break a Taqueria and these were very good. Tacos were on the small side for street tacos. Complimentary Chips and salsa. Very good. The nachos were the star of the show. As much as possible we like to support businesses and help them succeed & survive, but the last couple of times we came here service and quality of food had gone down......but still we come from the nearby city to support them. Here are the positive: They cleared all the tables and chairs and now, there's plenty of space to social distance inside. They also have an updated menu board and credit card machine that looks pretty cool. They also installed a clear plastic between cashier and customers......added protection. Suggestions: With Covid still on the rise......one should not fail to wear mask and anyone touching food must wear gloves. I love how the chips & salsa are situated in an area where others cannot touch them only employees. But the last couple of times we came, we ordered 3 burritos and was only given one salsa for one burrito both times we visited. We came home disappointed. I thought it was just a mistake the first time but then it happened again so I don't know if this is a new thing. Too bad, I love their salsa. I would hate for you guys to lose business this way. Livermore has a number of taquerias and Las Caporales is good but not spectacular. First the ambiance is great if you can eat outside. You can eat your tacos and watch the citizens of Livermore walk and drive by. You order at the counter inside and a server brings out your food pretty quickly. They have a large selection not only of tacos but also a number of other Mexican fast food items. The food was good but nothing that distinguishes it from other local taquerias. I have been coming to eat over here since I was little with my family. The owners are amazing and they even know my parents. We have been coming here to eat since the old place had. Currently right now one of the waitress has not been very helpful. She usually wears a bun and has black hair. In 2 different occasion she had tried to kick us out because "the kitchen was closed" Online it says they close at 9! I understand that customer service is not the same once you come in before closing. But this one time I had come with my family of 6 of us around 8 o'clock and she immediately told us they would be closing at 9 and that the kitchen closes at 8:30. My family and I understand why they would not want us coming so late, but again we have been coming for years here and we aren't the type of customers to leave a mess and give them a hard time. The second time my family and I came in at 8:15 and told us they would not sets us anymore because the kitchen closes at 8:30 but that we could order to go. They said the same thing to another family of 3. Mind you the store closes at 9 but the kitchen closes at 8:30 according to this waitress because she seems to be the only one following this rule the rest just follow. I'm not trying to sound like a bad and rude person but honestly this seems unfair. I will still come back because the food is amazing and we come here a lot but unfortunately I have been getting really bad experiences so far with this waitress. read more

We tend to favor Los Caporales on Railroad because of its convenient location next to the grocery store. This time around, strolling through the downtown, we had lunch at the 1st street location. The restaurant has been remodeled and is completely unrecognizable on the inside. Bright, airy, spacious and clean. The wall size painting are amazing. Nice touch! Both food items were very tasty. It took awhile for the soup, but it's because it's a unique menu item and made pretty much fresh. It was my first time trying the Ranchero Plate and it did not disappoint. We drove to Livermore from Hayward to deliver a painting for an upcoming exhibition, and my wife, her artist friend, and I walked around looking for a good place for lunch where we could get a quick, light lunch that was inexpensive and enjoy a great place to talk. This place looked good, and had outside seating, so we gave it a try. It's always fun when your restaurant choice in an unfamiliar area turns out to be a home run. This was it. The owner gave us prompt service, and he was nice and also funny. I had the super chicken taco, just 1 great taco that was a full, satisfying light lunch, which is what we were looking for. My wife and her friend had fish tacos, just $5.99 each. We loved them. I had a good IPA beer (they had a good long beer menu). First order with this restaurant as not many taco places have shrimp tacos for takeout. My wife and I are pretty fond of Rubio's shrimp tacos but Rubio's changed its operating hours. Anyway back to this review. We ordered 6 shrimp tacos and a regular nacho. Pictures are shown in the take out boxes. The grilled shrimp in the tacos were large & juicy. The nachos were tasty but a bit soggy. One taco must have gotten close to hot sauce in preparation and my wife could not finish as it was hot. Otherwise the tacos where very good & stuffed stuffed properly. The presentation probably could have been better as it looked mainly like lettuce but not sure what else they could have done. Been coming here every Friday for lunch for the past 2 years. I've been working down the street from here and have been able to walk to this establishment to grab great food. The menu is phenomenal! So much to choose from and enjoy! From sea food to 5 different meats. They also serve breakfast meals and lunch/dinner meals. The Red Smothered Burrito is the all time best. But the other guys I've been working with enjoy honestly anything on the menu. I've seen everyone order everything. The chips and salsa are great!!!! 5 different sauces that they ask at the end of your order. The women in this storefront are so nice and quick to help with your needs/order. The HORCHATA is crazy addicting but also is the hibiscus. I highly recommend coming here for any type of Mexican food. The owner is also one of the nicest guys I've ever met.
