Casa Ramos in Roseville delivered another great night out. My wife had a serious craving for their Fajita Quesadilla, and it absolutely lived up to the billing. The plate was massive -- and so was the quesadilla. It came out sizzling, packed with flavor, and the side of rice and beans was just as solid. Thankfully, the portion was so generous that I was able to "hi-jack" the remaining slices. After helping her finish it off, I can confirm -- craving justified! I went with my personal favorite, the Pozole, and they nailed it. The meat chunks were tender, the broth was perfectly seasoned, and the bowl was hearty and satisfying. A winning meal all the way around. The service was great -- attentive without hovering -- and we had an endless supply of fresh chips and salsa (always a good sign!). We came here late one night craving Mexican food and decided to try something different. This place did not disappoint. The atmosphere was very authentic and colorful with different artwork on the walls. When we came there was barely anyone in there so we got seated right away and ordered our food pretty quickly after looking over the menu. The menu had some amazing choices and it wasn't too overwhelming. My daughter ordered the quesadillas and said they were super moist and flavorful. My husband ordered the carne asada plate and said the same thing, he's not a huge fan of refried beans but he said these ones weren't bad. I got the burrito plate and it was huge! Very good! We also got some virgin pina coladas that were delicious. The only gripe and complaint that I had was it took a while for us to get the food even though we were the only ones in the restaurant when we ordered the food except for one other family that already had their food and by the time we got our food our plates were SUPER hot which tells me they were sitting under the heat lamps for a while. We were shopping in the area and craved Mexican food so here we came for lunch on a Saturday. It is located near Mikuni and next to a Cheese steak place. We walk in and were seated right away. It was not busy and only saw two other tables with people. I read the reviews that often said they were expensive. The regular stuff like tacos were comparable but what wasn't is the platters. My go-to is either steak fajitas or a carne asada and they were $27.99 and $29.99! Couldn't believe it. That is the MOST expensive I have ever seen it anywhere. Instead I got the two item combo with a chicken enchilada and a crunchy shredded beef taco. Hubs ordered the shredded beef Taquitos with rice and beans. You get free chips n salsa when you dine in. The salsa was a little chunky although reminded me of Pace Picante sauce. The food was borderline okay to good. They use a LOT of iceberg lettuce to fill up your plate to make it look like a lot. Didn't care for the rice as I felt it was dry and not flavorful but at least they make real guacamole with bits of avocado, not green goo filler. The flautas were nice and crispy. Service was almost non-existent. We waited awhile to get our order taken. Waited too long for drink refills and had to flag her down to get our check. Understandable if they were busy but they were not. Went to the bathroom and it was out of toilet paper in one stall. Solid 3 stars. Located near an old shuttered movie theater, this Casa Ramos is very similar to the other locations. Not quite as good as others I've been to, but pretty close. As you walk in they've got a beautiful day of the dead mural on the wall. It's a smaller location than others we've been to as well. A tad on the expensive side, great wait staff though. Our waitress Arlene was great, stopped by the check on us frequently but not so much as to be annoying. I held off writing this review of Casa Ramos in Roseville for several days. My wife and I have eaten at Casa Ramos locations in Mammoth, Placerville, Roseville, and Mount Shasta. We've stopped at the Mount Shasta restaurant more times than I can count on our drives to Klamath Falls, Bend, Portland, and Seattle, and we visited the Mammoth location when camping before it closed. After our most recent experience in Roseville, we won't be returning to any Casa Ramos again. We arrived as a party of three just after 4 p.m. The restaurant was nearly empty, with only two occupied tables. Mexican restaurants are usually upbeat and welcoming, but the atmosphere here felt sterile--not clean, but lifeless. Several tables needed bussing. Our waiter was perfunctory: menus, water, chips, salsa, and then he vanished. His expression never changed; he had the enthusiasm of someone clocking out in five minutes. Zero warmth, zero engagement. The salsa tasted like canned crushed tomatoes with limp cilantro. No chile heat, no citrus, no salt. The chips were light and crispy but saltless. I ordered the two‑item (grande) combination plate with a chicken tamal and a carnitas enchilada--carnitas for an extra $3, which is unusual since most Mexican restaurants don't upcharge for meat choices. My wife ordered the chile relleno plate. My tamal and enchilada looked tiny on the oversized plate alongside refried beans and Spanish rice. The carnitas enchilada was wrapped in a tortilla the size of one used for a street taco--the smallest enchilada I've ever been served. I asked about black beans. "No, you can't have black beans," the waiter said, even though they had been on the menu. I didn't bother arguing. Tamales are a celebratory dish--usually seven or eight inches long, corn husks hand‑spread with masa, filled generously, and wrapped with care. The Casa Ramos tamale was half that size and looked machine‑pressed. When I cut into it, the chicken was crammed into a thin 1/4‑inch strip. It was also unsalted. Honestly, if they're not going to make their own tamales, Costco sells far better ones. The refried beans and Spanish rice were also unsalted. Someone in that kitchen needs to watch *Worst Cooks in America*--the contestants at least learn to taste their food. As for my wife's chile relleno: what do you think happens to a "Poblano chile stuffed with Monterey Jack cheese, fried in a light, fluffy egg batter" after it sits in the kitchen and is likely microwaved? It becomes a tough, rubbery blob, served with the same flavorless beans and rice. Nope. We won't be back. Casa Ramos' food is bland, lifeless, and uninspired. The service is indifferent and apathetic. The interior is drab, unwelcoming, and tired. read more

On all fajita plates there were only 2 strips of bell peppers and was all onions, which was not what I ordered or what was shown on the menu. First visit to this location...as a Casa Ramos. I've been to each of the several Mexican restaurants that have occupied this building. My favorite of them is a tie between Más and La Fiesta Alteña. I've been to a Casa Ramos in the past so I was sort of glad to see one in town. This Casa Ramos location has potential, but the service fell very flat this visit. Aside from being right on top of providing and refreshing our supply of chips and salsa, everything else, service-wise, was painfully s-l-o-w. Slow to take our order. Slow to give us our bill. There really didn't seem to be a good reason for it because, while not empty, they weren't slammed either - maybe half of the tables occupied, if that. Granted, there could've been something going on behind the scenes that I wasn't aware of...I don't know..but looking around, it seemed like other tables were waiting like we were. Maybe it was because this is a new location? Could be that they need some time to work out the kinks with the service. The food...was okay. Not the best and certainly not the worse we've had. We had the chicken mole and the chile colorado/chile verde burrito combo (I don't recall the actual name from the menu). The mole was okay. I thought the bits of chicken chunks were sparsely scattered on the platter given the price...but all in all it wasn't too bad. The chile verde burrito was the star of the combo. Perfect spiced, the tender pork chunks were very flavorful. Its partner, the chile colorado burrito was just okay - the beef chunks, while being covered in the red chile sauce seemed somewhat dry and chewy. Overall: Food - 3.5 - the chile verde brought it up a full star. Service - 2.5 - slow and inattentive for the most part. Ambience - 3 - typical Mexican restaurant vibe. I'm not super happy with it. The food was good. Serving size was appropriate. The cilantro rice was good, as were the beans. The meat serving was a bit small, and veggies were used to fill the space.
