I have been eating at this place for over 25 years. It should be known right away that it's NOT a taqueria. If you want that sort of thing, there is a great place about 1/2 mile to the west on the same side of the street. What I like about Dos Coyotes is the consistency, and the good flavor. The same cooks have been working here for a long time which is not common at any restaurant. My go-to dish is a tres taco plate with Bobby's crispy beef tacos. Sometimes I will sub a shrimp taco when I want a little less grease. The salsa bar is the best around, better than what they have at my favorite taqueria down the street. There is some outdoor seating which is nice on good weather days. It can get a little busy during the lunch rush, but it's usually not too crowded and there are plenty of tables. The prices are reasonable. Everything on the menu + a soda is under $20. read more

We have stopped by this Dos for years and it's only gotten worse, the southwest burrito "with steak" had almost zero steak and is mostly guacamole and other fillers, the size is about half size at the full price. It's turning into Taco Bell. The fajitas have shrunk also. It's nothing like it was even 2 years ago. We will start going to authentic Mexican restaurants, at least you get your moneys worth. Great food, awesome salsa bar. Every dos coyotes I've been to has a nicely colorful interior. My go to is always the border burrito. It has all the goodies of rice, beans, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, and meat. I usually get chicken, though their steak is also really tasty. The chicken has a nice char which adds to the flavor. Very large and filling burrito. Maybe a little bland at times (not very salty), but goes well with the salsas. I love rotating through their salsas (good pico de gallo, tomatillo, roasted tomato, and especially the creamy green one on the right. I've never seen this one at other restaurants). So good! The chips are also very crisp and delicious, and I like that they're unsalted. Overall a solid option. Great if you're feeling extra hungry! read more

I don't know where to start really. I have been here in the past and honestly had good food but tonight was not something I would categorize as good. In fact, it is difficult to find constructive feedback that does not come off negative without any room for improvement or even subjective bias. I had the New Mexico Stacked enchilada. I am from NM and in candor, I tend to either not rate Mexican restaurants or if I do, I try not to compare to home made food or restaurants from New Mexico. With that said, here is what I encountered. First, Mexican food is oftentimes described as a "mess on a plate" and I don't take offense to this at all. Some of my favorite places pride themselves on the alchemy of mixing all of the ingredients onto a plate. When done well, it's masterful. When it isn't, it's just a mess. That is the start. First the blue corn tortillas were almost crunchy and instead of laying flat they kinda curled up and had a crunchy chewey feel to them. As this wasn't a tostada, that was not optimal. The egg was not properly cooked, and all of the food was barely warm. Mexican food should always come piping hot with dripping cheese and sauce that emanates the distinct aromas of the southwest. This was warm. Like barely warm. The food was bland and I didn't finish any part of the meal. Overall, I found it to be not nearly worth the value of the charge. There are better choices out there, and I was left wondering what had happened. read more

So incredibly disappointed. I placed a catering order online for 36 Burritos and a few other Items, Guac & chips etc. I attempted to add instructions for my order, specifically my request was to cut the burritos in half, my intent was to offer them to my 56 guests as an hors d'oeuvres and not a full meal. I ordered 12 steak, 12 chicken and 12 Vegetarian, the order total with tip was $475.00. I placed my order the day before my pick-up day and time. When I attempted to add this instruction the website would not allow me to add instructions. After I placed the order I called the restaurant and I was told to call back tomorrow as they had not received my order yet. I called the next morning and they still hadn't received my order, so I asked for the manager, I was told that the manager was not in at that time and to call back in a little while. I called again and got the Manager, Javier on the phone and he said that they don't release the orders until about one hour before the pick-up time, I asked Javier to cut the burritos in half, and he said no problem that he would leave a note for the kitchen. My host said that they do this "all the time" for them. So when I arrived at my Host's location I was stunned and angry that the burritos were not cut in half and I had no means or facility to do it at that location. The end result was 14 of my guests did get any food. I was completely embarrassed. I immediately called the store but Javier had left for the day. I called again the next day and Javier informed me that they don't cut the Southwest burritos in half. I told him, that would have been valuable information to have before I placed my order, or at some point during my four previous calls to the restaurant before my order was prepared. I appreciate how they rotate in seasonal favorites, and it adds to the "what's new at Dos?" anticipation when we go. My wife and I have been ordering food to go ever since this location opened. Many times the order was missing something, however, we over looked it because we loved the Ying Yang chicken salad. We always order salads for family function's and every body loved it. Once you stopped making these salads we went from ordering once a week until not ordering anything when you stopped. We were excited to hear that it just came back but in a bowl. We went back last week and ordered food plus a Ying Yang Salad. The salad was terrible, even the dressing sucked, so we just threw it out. This is really sad because I know many people who have said the same thing and they never dine here anymore. My favorite things to pick are the yucatan chicken salad and grilled southwest steak burrito pictured below. What I appreciate about this place is that the salsa is always good, I love the chile pasilla and chipotle salsas. Only thing that's a little iffy is just the chips. They used to be very good but this past year they've always been stale. The service is quick. The food is ready within 5 minutes ordering. I always come here to get almost the same thing all the time. Brought a friend to try the restaurant for the first time. I got yin yang salad. It's the worst experience I've had. Salad was mushy some of the veggies is just not fresh. The jicama is dry up and tastes sour. I ended up only eat the chicken. I'm wondering how many days already they didn't sell this one and I ended up to be the unlucky one to have this. Anyway, I ended up didn't eat the rest. It's so bad that I don't plan to come back. My money goes wasted. Don't want to be the one that comes back and still got the same bad qualities for food. Will not be back, time to look for different places to try. We've been to this spot a few times and I'm finally writing my review! It's on Douglas in the shopping center by Wells Fargo. Lots of parking. Really nice outdoor patio, lots of seating inside too. Very clean and cheerful. Our food was prepared perfectly and quickly. You order at the counter and then they bring it to your table. The salsa bar is back open (YEAH) and you can choose from several kinds of salsa. I love the mango salsa. My favorite dish is the soft tacos with steak. YUM. YUUUUMMMMM. Loaded with delicious steak, cheese and lettuce. I squeeze a little lime on top too. My husband loves the nachos - which are easily enough food for two people. Dropped a few hundred bucks on a pick up order for Mother's Day. I grew up in Davis so have been enjoying Dos since they opened in the early 90's. Everyone was pleased with the meal (steak taquitos, chicken taquitos, a Taco Bar, Navajo dip). What we ordered was a great way to feed a decently-sized crowd. Dos Coyotes has their catering situation dialed in nicely. They have a team you email and they process your order that way. Everything was very streamlined and easy to navigate. I even added food and they were very easy and cool about it. Five stars all the way for the behind-the-scenes catering team, kudos! I was concerned that the taquitos would get soggy and they didn't. The Taco Bar was gorgeous, plentiful and so much fun for everyone! The Navajo dip was probably everyone's least favorite and was hardly touched. This was likely because the taco bar and taquitos contained every ingredient that was in the Navajo dip (salsa, guacamole, cheese etc). Still not a bad idea to include it if you are looking to fluff up your meal, it comes with an obscene amount of chips too. Pick up went fairly smooth. I made my pickup time early in order to avoid their lunch rush. If I had a bone to pick, I'd have to say that I was disappointed when I praised the manager Gage about their avocado (creamy green Salsa) and asked for some, he comes out with 4 tiny containers (the ones that are about an inch tall and maybe an inch and a half wide?) and says "this is what I can give you ...complimentary". Like, really dude? We place this huge order and you can't hook up a fair amount of this salsa, I clearly love? However, if you sit down and eat there you could drink the stuff if you wanted to at no extra charge. That threw me off and was enough to consider a different spot for our next event.
