5 stars for the food! The best Mexican food I've ever had. Whatever they put on the menu is excellent. Service is usually good and reliable. Place is packed so get there early. Never had a bad meal. Have to knock off a star for their truly horrendous carry out service. We've done carry out a dozen times or so and our order has NEVER been correct. Doesn't matter the order, amount, time of day, every time our carry out order is wrong. Moral of the story, eat at the restaurant, you'll love it! We have been to Casa Romero twice now. It's a good 20 minute drive, so we have to be in the mood to drive through some farmland to come here. Either that or we are heading somewhere beyond it, as we were yesterday. Since we usually share about everything, I've had a chance to try several items on the menu, It's pretty much an "Americanized" menu and we haven't seen a need to go beyond the standard items - cheese dip, tostada, enchilada, tamale included. Everything we've had here has been very good. On top of that, the service could not be better. Prices are decent, too. We won't become regulars, but we'll definitely stop by if we happen to be in Waterloo and feeling in the mood for Mexican (which we usually are). read more

My friends are a regular here so I thought I would join them. I don't know what is there attraction to this place. The margaritas tasted like they were just lime juice. The salsa was too spicy and our server was a little slow. I ordered a quesadilla, and were charged extra for the sour cream. The food was excellent. The salsa was very flavorful. The shredded steak chimichanga was one of the best I've had. The guacamole was a little salty. I asked if they could do a chorizo chimichanga and they said no. This was only the second Mexican restaurant I've ever been to that wouldn't make it. They should have a chorizo chimichanga on the menu. The service was adequate. The server forgot to bring out the guacamole ordered and it took a while to get the check. This is the second time visiting this restaurant and the service is worse than McDonald's. Have to ask everyone you can find to try and. get drinks, chips, and food. The food orders are wrong and take forever to get correct. Several people were done eating before we received the correct food. Had to start clearing the table next to us even after sever staff said they would clear the table so we could move tables. The table we were provided was being dripped on soaking chips and drinks. I cannot recommend this place until they take their job seriously. This is the worst experience you could have ever received and the gave them two tried. After all that they tried to give me a bill for $849.00 for a $35.00 meal. Not only do they have the worst service possible at a restaurant they are cheating customers by over charging on the bills. By the way all three bills at our table were over charged. I should turn them into the BBB and city for cheating customers. I recommend never going to this place and if you do double check your bill unless you like to be over charged. read more

Love the outdoor seating but not as much as their salsa standard mexican rice and beans, but they do it well along with their enchiladas with the green sauce and tacos of course. They made some improvements which worried me at first but they actually made what was almost perfect, perfect. Roasted veg salsa is awesome. Shrimp enchiladas are undoubtedly my favorite dish. Friendly fast service. Spinach enchiladas yummy, and the Burito mexicano I am told us excellent. We actually ordered meals for for next days lunch. I've eaten in Mexican restaurants from DC to Colorado to San Diego. This as good as I've had.

In the nearly decade that I have lived in this area, Casa Romero is a restaurant that I had never been to and was constantly told how great it is. After visiting with a friend, visiting again, visiting again, and visiting many more times, I can understand why all those people guided me there for a great dinner. The staff is always wonderful, one of the employees remembers my drink order the moment he sees me, something you don't get a lot and impressive considering how busy they are all the time. I have yet to have a negative experience in that regard. It can be a little loud in there, mostly depends on how packed it is. There is also a wait sometimes, it is a very popular place, but I promise it is worth the wait. The food is impeccable, delicious and always tastes fresh. I am a massive fan of the Carnitas, which I order with some sour cream, that comes with onions, tortillas, a bit of lettuce with diced tomato and guac. It comes deconstructed, so it is a meal you can pace yourself with while putting everything together. The pork is incredibly tender and juicy, breaking apart effortlessly. You also get a side of beans and a side of rice with it. Completely worth the experience. I highly recommend ordering a side of their Street Corn, it is amazing. It is corn off the cob mixed with what I believe is mayo, sour cream, lime juice, some seasoning and Cotija cheese. It is a combination that doesn't sound like much on paper but it is a combination of flavors that will send your taste buds into a flurry. This is hands down my go to restaurant in Waterloo. + Price is great + Quality of food is high + Staff is friendly + Kitchen is very timely read more

Best Mexican food in southern IL! Great owner, great staff and great service! Every dish I've had is delicious but Arroz con Pollo is one of my favorites along with the Baja Shrimp and Crab Enchiladas! The house salsa is delicious and flavorful and the spicy salsa (spend a little extra and make the special request for it) is very spicy but packed with flavor we buy a 16oz cup of it to take home at least once a month so I highly recommend trying it. read more

My first experience with this restaurant. Placed my to-go order online, three SHREADED CHICKEN items from the menu. Upon opening the container, the food looked appetizing. Cut into the first item - BEEF. Second item - BEEF. You see where I am going here; all items were filled with ground beef. Checked my receipt, it said chicken. So I called the restaurant to notify them of their mistake thinking they would offer to replace the food - NOPE! No offer to replace or compensate in any way. The person on the phone was more interested in pointing out that it was not her fault rather the cooks. I didn't really care whose fault it was, I don't care for ground beef. Ended up throwing most of the meal away. Guess I should have asked for the manager, but I felt the staff should have been properly trained on how the handle this issue.
